One thing that watching this retrospective over the past couple of days has shown me is that even if the lines are bad, and the show is bad, Brenda Song always just fucking goes for it. Kudos to her, honestly, she was great all the way through.

Exactly what I was gonna say. Zack as a character is a misogynistic ass to the fictional women of the show, but what they were asking for wouldnt have just been offensive to the fictional Carrie, but to the real person playing her. That's where he drew the line.
Right like what’s funny about making fun of a woman’s weight because she’s having a baby? They did this bit on the second season of “My Wife & Kids” after Tisha had her baby & every single “joke” was made about her weight. I absolutely hate those episodes because they r not funny

I can provide some information about the Yay Me! web series. The first three “episodes” were just clips from “Tiptonline” (including “Today’s Guest: BFF Chelsea”, which was a separate “episode” from “Bon Voyage”) and there were 6 actual episodes, which explains the inconsistent numbering. The missing seventh episode look place in London, England, and was named “London in London”. It had an extremely similar premise to London's B-Plot in "Flowers and Chocolate"- She runs into Chelsea and tries to hide the fact that she's in a boarding school by claiming Bailey is her maid.
@juliahornback2843 sometimes people will also change their accents quickly if they get made fun of enough. I knew a girl that moved from New Jersey go from full Jersey accent to dropping it in the span of a few weeks.

ok so every hannah montana concert on the show was an actual concert. like it was a way for them to get kids and their parents to pay money to be crowd extras. the tickets were significantly cheaper than like usual concert tickets, but you had to be ok with the ocassional cut and re-play of the same song if they didn't get the shots they wanted the first time.
9 months ago, I told my therapist that in one sitting I watched a 6 hour video summarizing Suite Life as an example of rock bottom. Can’t wait to watch this one!
I actually got to meet Phil Lewis at a theater function in Los Angeles, and I'm happy to confirm that he is one of the kindest, sweetest people I've met. I thanked him for his work as Mr. Moseby and he was incredibly grateful that it made such an impact. He's a real one ❤
I also love the idea that Cody is at the very least magic sensitive and possibly might have untapped powers himself as he was the only one aware of the time loop.
These two stuck up for each other. There is a story that when Dylan put on weight, one of the filmmakers shamed him, and she told that person off. One could only think his reasoning for not fat shaming her is because of the kindness she showed him.
@@Luverofmysoul2 The context of that is just so needlessly cruel, especially considering Dylan was just 14 at the time: There were donuts out or something & there were only a few left in the box or something. Someone then loudly proclaimed no more donuts for Dylan until he had Cole's bodytype again (which wasn't going to happen given Dylan's "weight-gain" could very well just have been due to puberty). Kim then stood up for him because she was the only adult around who thought: "we shouldn't harass a 14 year old that isn't related to us so publically"
4:09:57 As a kid I always thought them adding a new character was so cool, but ngl I kinda feel bad for Woody's actor. Bro was in a majority of episodes and was there to the end yet still couldn't get credited in the opening. Then again maybe with the scripts he was given maybe he didnt want to be credited.
Fun fact: The woman who played Padma, the lady who London bribed into dropping out of Seven Seas High, is played by Tiya Sircar. Who played Vicky in the Good Place and is the voice of Sabine from Star Wars Rebels.
I realize that Cole and Dylan are identical twins, but I’ve never understood how people can’t tell them apart, I actually thought they might have been fraternal twins as a kid because they looked so different to me
I kind of agree, even though they're identical somehow their different personalities just shine through. like Zach said once when Cody pointed out they have the same face "yeah but I pull it off". they just wear the look differently.
3:23 Every time Gumball's voice actor changes, they specifically make episodes referencing the changes and how they effect Gumball and/or Darwin. One of the reasons I love the show is that they wrote in episodes to sort of explain away the voices being different.
Well they did in the beginning, towards the end they were just kinda like “clear your voice” and then they would cough and change voice actors, still pretty funny but definitely less special or meaningful
Really like how they did for the episode where they deal with their Chinese knock offs and ends with the voices changing while talking about they are irreplaceable
@@eatatjoes6751 In real life Cole was the ladies man that all the girls would through themselves at. Alison Stoner and Selena Gomez both admitted to being attracted to Cole.
Another thing I appreciate is you using the ad bumpers as visual/audio transitions in your editing. I feel like a sleeper agent every time I hear them, just unlocked memories every time
It feels weird to say this but it creates almost a sense of immersion with the video. Like, the feel is less "youtube video" and more "it's 2011 and you're watching a marathon of this show with this guy who knows a lot"
@@JackSiesko-li5ow That’s how I felt watching the Wizards retrospective. I’m like, 12, sitting in my room on a Friday raising my eyebrow at a wizard girl, half confused and half, “I’m into wizard stuff, this is so cool.”
It's kinda insane how I immediately remember some of those bumpers. Used to watch reruns of this show a lot to go to sleep & they just repeated the same pass the plate, or bella thorn's dyslexia thing, or whatever
The one line that stuck in my brain from this show was from the episode where they are stranded on an island and get in the hot air balloon and London says something like “they look like ants from up here” and someone else points out that they are in fact just ants. That pops in my brain whenever I’m in a tall building or see an ant.
"I never gave you a badge- how did you get a Boston Police badge?" - Mr Moseby This line was genuinely funny to me. Though I could just be tired, it's almost 11pm
No it actually is funny, but that has more to do with Phil Lewis's delivery than anything. He elevates so much of the material even when the show has devolved deep into mediocrity
It’s interesting that with the Arwin series, it could’ve been the only show on the Disney Channel where the lead was an adult. As a kid, I never saw any shows on Nickelodeon or Disney with an adult as the lead. Feels completely different from everything else from that perspective and might’ve been one of the reasons they didn’t green light it
@quangamershyguyyz7166 Jessie, especially early Jessie, very much felt like she was supposed to be barely out of high school. It's much less of a jump then fully adult man
@@DParkerNunyawell even then in the show they treat her like she’s like just over 17 not really a young adult who’s in her early 20s despite Debby Ryan being 19 in the 1st season
idk about live action, but there were plenty of adult animated characters for nick at least. Ren and Stimpy, Rocko, spongebob, catdog, angry beavers, ect. I guess they felt more comfortable portraying adults to children if they were done as animals. They probably thought portraying a human adult wouldn't be relatable to their target demographic.
1:33:00 Dude, this Pass the Plate thing with Brenda Song is burned into my fucking head. It played millions of times, it was like the only one I ever saw. I imagine this was a running commercial bit, and I only saw the one with Brenda Song.
I think London Tipton being a parody of Paris Hilton could definitely mean that her playing into the stupid rich girl persona to her advantage could have been intentional
What's weird is that the Jordin Sparks episode is one of the few things I remember from this show, one of the few episodes Marcus was in a major role and still nothing jogged my memory
i agree, good point!! i feel like mikes mic pll series also further popularized the long length of the tv show introspective on youtube. so many starting dropping 2 hour long tv show vids after they realized ppl would actually watch the whole thing, if they did a good job !
I’m not going to say it’s impossible to accidentally fall off a cruise ship, but unless you’re climbing on the railing, it’s exceedingly difficult. Because they REALLY don’t want people falling overboard.
I love the inclusion of fact checking the excursions with people who actually live there! It's so funny to hear their reactions and adds a lot that I didn't realize as a kid.
@melrenee5416 Jenny Nicholson. She's kinda the original, the GOAT, of the multi-hour deep dive. Mostly she does brilliant nerd content, but her video 'THE Vampire Diaries video' is what sparked this whole trend of intense deep-dives into tv shows She just returned from a year+ hiatus to drop a 4 hour video on the Star Wars Hotel and we couldn't be more grateful
You know looking back at shows like this, I love how the characters make scientific discoveries that would change the path of humanity drastically relatively often. Like it's always just gags for kids to find funny, but seriously the amount of tv series where an insanely powerful way to grow plants was found is crazy. These worlds would either be utopias or dystopias by now
Definitely prefer zack and cody over on deck, but the later isn't far off quality wise. I'll be honest though, I think he's being too critical with this his take on the series. Some of its valid and I see his point but some of it just ruins the show for me
I'd say it is kinda too critical, especially when you consider moments like re-using phrases or jokes is technically consistent with a character, while it's true the boys are older- their personalities shouldn't drastically change because of their age and/or appearance.
One thing that I don’t think people bring up is that The Suite Life of Zack & Cody was surprisingly progressive with its’ cast. A proper black gentleman, a blonde genius (or two) and a dumb Asian. But then you’re reminded who codeveloped and eventually ran the show after Danny Kallis left because of all the fat jokes and cultural insensitivity because she also created Jessie and Bunk’d: Pamela Eells O’Connell. At the very least, I’ve been told by another RUclipsr that Bunk’d got better after she left that show. I gave up during season 1. I don’t know how true that is
Brenda was going for Maddie and Ashley London, but they got the other role. This is acknowledged in the parallel world episode where Brenda plays the brainy Asian and Ashley the dumb blonde. It’s also a single mother rather than two parents, and the show explored how a family where the father isn’t present would have things play out when the absent parent comes into town. There was an episode about Kurt realising the responsibility of single parenting first hand. Moseby was the main paternal figure, Mr Tipton’s physical and emotional absence being a plot point numerous times such as when London initially rejects a new stepmother because she’s used to the revolving door of them.
Woody, the last character to mention God in a Disney channel show till girl meets world bludgeoned us to death with references to it in that one episode
Hey its a new video by that guy who cooks scrambled eggs wrong! As someone who grew up watching Suite Life of Zack and Cody and I think completely dropped On Deck by the end of its first season, its great hearing you just go through and be like “yeah the acting is bad, the writing is just things happening to happen, etc.” cause its nice to know that the younger me wasnt just rejecting change when he though On Deck was clearly a huge downgrade
I remember growing up hearing it was a downgrade, but since I was younger at the time (I think 9-10ish). Of course as a kid, quality of content wasn't as noticeable (I still think kids deserve good quality stories though) and I was still in the Disney age range. I def did not notice it then, but I def notice it now as an adult.
Damn, I'm 20 and I still like the show... is there something wrong with me or is the nostalgia just too strong? Lmao. Idk, but I still find the show to be pretty funny
How I would describe the shift is that it’s lost charm, the charm of these 2 kids going on wacky adventures in this giant hotel,it was unique, sweet life on deck just became any other Disney show
I just remembered a scene from the live action Casper movie where Casper makes "scrambled" eggs by starting sunny side up eggs and half-heartedly mixing them for like a second. Did Keyan learn how to make Scrambled Eggs from the live action film "Casper the Friendly Ghost"?
Fun fact: The only Suite life of Zack and Cody I knew was this one. THIS was my first introduction to these characters, "On Deck" was what I thought Zack and Cody was, I met this before the OG version! And now, with extra context, Cody forgetting Barbara and just going out for another person feels VERY odd and out of character. Like, the "exotic woman" line should have been Zack's. And I'm happy that Barbara ended up being a cheater, but it's still unexpected from Cody Also, 10:08 + 44:28 LAB RATS MENTIONED!
Omg me too!!! I watched this show a lot and didnt know there was another one before. I was so confused when they made references or brought back characters from the other show😂

The era of Jordin Sparks making guest appearances on pre teen sitcoms in the early 2010’s has to be one of the most baffeling things to me because when and where else did anyone who grew up watching these shows see or hear of her
Well she won American Idol, and her music was pretty successful when she first debuted. I remember hearing her Songs like “One Step At a Time” “No Air (featuring Chris Brown)” and “Tattoo” playing on the Radio a lot.

I think Bailey only found out after she got there that there was no room for another girl, so the boy disguise was an on-the-spot thing...? Which of course isn't at all how that works, but since when has the show ever cared about something like that.
Knowing that most establishments don't keep track of all their visitors, it's not unrealistic to believe that Bailey planned to only wear the boy outfit during school and swap after the school day.
@@JunTekuTheEngima she would've had to be disguised as a boy to room with a boy, not for the actual school day. so she would've had to be disguised 24/7 if she didn't want her roommate to find out
Cody and Bailey being such a bad, chemistry-less ship is so so so funny in retrospect, considering how obsessed i was with them when i was ten. FR i was reading thee most insane cailey fanfiction bc i thought they were such a cute tv couple back then 😵💫
I always thought she had way more chemistry with Zach in the pilot and I thought it was strange that they paired her with Cody when they had no chemistry whatsoever!
So funny story. My mother somehow got a DVD copy of Wizards Of Waverly Place 6 months before the show premiered. Apparently they were doing some survey at the mall and she found one on the ground and just took it.
I grew up watching both series. I think I actually grew more fond of on deck (ofc the og will always have a special place in my heart) cuz I was around the same age as Cole and Dylan. Seeing them actually grow up on screen was resonating with the part of me that was growing up too
speaking of dylan and cole sprouse: they filmed a movie called the prince and the pauper near my hometown and did some work in a nearby high school where they left their hand prints and a girl i knew said that every day she would kiss their hand prints.
I kind of like Mosbey being more calm and giving advice in On Deck it shows his growth and they need a father/mother figure type person but I do agree there’s no one to really replace his energy
You know I never would’ve thought I’d be invested in a 5 hour retrospective of this show, but I’m really glad the algorithm showed it to me! Your inclusion of commercial bumpers is such a nice touch, and now I can’t help but go down the rabbit hole of these child stars that entertained the hell out of me. I stopped watching Disney channel around 11, 12 at the very latest, and this is such a dope blast from the past. I fw your humor too, sub earned!
This is exactly when I stopped watching Disney. I feel like they just kind of cashed in on Suite Life for as long as they could and then this is where it fizzled out. It’s kinda nuts how I remember bits of Wizards but not this. However, I think that it’s really sweet how Kim Rhoades called them her little guys. Also, Cody’s big NO was actually the one funny joke in the entire show to me because it came out of nowhere. No, wait, the Jedi joke was funny, why did they need him to explain it? *headdesk* There’s a bizarre irony to Phil Lewis working on this show with an iCarly knockoff in it, then the show getting canned, only to executive produce on the iCarly revival, which *also* ends up getting sacked. Also, I could feel the strain before, but on Deck really stretched how long the shenanigans could last. Also, also, also, I see somebody else has latched onto the “London is pretending to be stupid” theory too, because her answer to the question of “what historical figure would you have for dinner?” is brilliant.
The worse part, this stuff was strangely embarrassing to watch! It's so self indulgent... the whole point of shows like this is that you can watch in front of your relatives without them judging you LMFAO. If my relatives are just going to wince through the entire thing I might as well just watch cartoons lol. Anyways I'm actually glad Kenyan is covering this because I wanted to know how this ended but couldn't bring myself to keep watching it after the Paris episode
Es más irónico considerando que la serie sunny entre estrellas es una copia a la idea original de Icarly y que el sucio dan hizo un episodio en venganza burlandose de Disney
20:16 I always assumed that the reason Mr Mosby took the job as Manger of the Cruise Ship was because he was offered more money for the job. That would explain why he has no emotional attachment to the ship.
Tbh, i cant think of a time it *wasn't* normalized, at least in North America. There unfortunately aren't a lot of popular pieces of media with SE Asians in them (again, in North Am.) and those that do rely largely on stereotypes for jokes or have them typecast (Raj from Big Bang Theory is one of the ONLY SE Asian main cast members of a popular show). I feel like there is a weird acceptance of racism esp against Indian people. As a Canadian our newer shows have more rep than popular American shows, but it's not much to contrast consistent racism against brown people in media.
There's an easy explanation. Being around someone from a group makes people humanize the people within the group. The problem is that about 90% of the time when people interact with people from India, it's through spam calls trying to steal people's money. And what's worse, the country does so so little to stop it that anyone who looks into the issue basically has their negative beliefs affirmed. If the Indian government cleaned up these scams, I guarantee people's opinions of Inidans would improve.
7:43 Speaking of Pushing for Selena apparently Dylan and Cole pitched a Third series to Disney about Zack and Cody returning to the hotel and trying to fix it up,they would also be mentoring a kid that would act as the next main character.Disney said no, but a few months later Disney talked with them again and pitched them there own show but it was set in Florida and had Selena In it.
Didnt they also laugh them out of the room when they wanted a producer credit for their idea originally and then later Disney's "idea" also had Zack have a miserable life for no reason.
The first pilot for Disney that Selena starred in was for a Lizzie Maguire Spin-Off focusing on Lizzie’s best friend Miranda, played by Lalaine. And Selena would play Miranda’s little sister. Disney saw Selena’s talent and they really wanted to push her, but they just had a difficult time figuring out how to do it.
I'm excited to watch this in its entirety. Suite Life on Deck was a core Disney sitcom for me as a kid. I have two strong memories: (1) London learning she's part Thai and visits family in Thailand, which was big for me because you didn't see that much representation of anyone of Thai heritage on TV, and despite the issues of accuracy, it was one of the first times I felt 'seen' in a mainstream show like this. (2) London in Paris waiting hours upon hours, slowly realizing she's been stood-up and running off in tears, and that really terrified me and formed my young fears and hesitations about any kind of ideas of romance and love in a fairly traumatizing way.
3:46:18 Bookmarking the episode where they visit Thailand for personal revisits. Like I mention in the original comment, Thai representation felt really sparse for me, as a Thai-American, at the time, especially at a young age. So despite inaccuracies (like the elephant instead of the regular water bucket), this episode has a special place in my heart for making me feel 'seen.' Also, Brenda Song herself is a Thai-American!
At the time I watched Disney, the original series had already ended so I watched "Sweet Life on Deck" without even knowing that it was a continuation of a previous series. And I have to say, the series works well even without the context of the previous one and I really enjoyed it, especially when the plot went completely bonkers like when they went to space
Ahh ok, I understand that especially if you're younger. Something I sometimes wonder about is whether ppl who only watched On Deck growing up were surprised by their mom's constant presence given that she was only in 4 episodes of On Deck
You say a time loop is something Gravity Falls would do, that show did do it in The Time Traveler’s Pig. While in that case Dipper and Mabel intentionally went back with a means they could control, Dipper did so to clear a way to have a special moment with his crush Wendy through trial and error. In the the end conceding to the moment being between Wendy and her other love interest Robbie because Dipper couldn’t win without Mabel losing the chance to gain her pig Waddles.
That's not what he said. He said that a time loop caused by the international dateline is something Gravity Falls would do. A time loops is something a hundred shows would do and a hundred more have done.
Technically that Gravity Falls episode shouldn’t count due to it being caused by the main characters intentionally going back in time via a time traveling device. I think it should mostly count if the loop is caused by an opposing supernatural force.
I swear I'm getting Mandela Effected here I distinctly remember the Mr Moseby birthday episode, but I thought for sure it was an episode of Suite Life of Zack & Cody, and not Suite Life on Deck

It had an extremely similar premise to London's B-Plot in "Flowers and Chocolate"- She runs into Chelsea and tries to hide the fact that she's in a boarding school by claiming Bailey is her maid.

Bro yeah what the fuck was that
The Suite Life of Zack & Cody on Deck was one of my most favorite Disney shows to watch as a kid growing up during the early 2010s.
Me too
me too and I have re-watched it as an adult multiple times
Definitely prefer zack and cody over on deck, but the later isn't far off quality wise. I'll be honest though, I think he's being too critical with this his take on the series. Some of its valid and I see his point but some of it just ruins the show for me
@@darwinbowman8512honestly to me I once preferred on Deck slightly more but now I see them as kinda equal
Not even remotely true, girl meets world wanted to be so special 😭😭😭

However, I think that it’s really sweet how Kim Rhoades called them her little guys.
Also, Cody’s big NO was actually the one funny joke in the entire show to me because it came out of nowhere.
No, wait, the Jedi joke was funny, why did they need him to explain it? *headdesk*
There’s a bizarre irony to Phil Lewis working on this show with an iCarly knockoff in it, then the show getting canned, only to executive produce on the iCarly revival, which *also* ends up getting sacked.
Also, I could feel the strain before, but on Deck really stretched how long the shenanigans could last.

As an Indian, it’s wild how normalized racism against South Asian people is becoming (again)
I think Quinton’s Bully Cody Monologue is one of the funniest things I’ve heard in a while. Like it brought tears to my eyes.
I have two strong memories:
(1) London learning she's part Thai and visits family in Thailand, which was big for me because you didn't see that much representation of anyone of Thai heritage on TV, and despite the issues of accuracy, it was one of the first times I felt 'seen' in a mainstream show like this.
(2) London in Paris waiting hours upon hours, slowly realizing she's been stood-up and running off in tears, and that really terrified me and formed my young fears and hesitations about any kind of ideas of romance and love in a fairly traumatizing way.
1:59:55 Oh boy! How relevant this line is!
In Amphibia Brenda Song plays the main character Anne, and her family is Thai, it's an important part of her character especially in season 3!
Am I the only person who remembers Brenda Song being in the DCOM Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior? It feels like a fever dream now lol
No it happened, and it was amazing
That movie inspired me to start martial arts as a kid, and I did it for 17 years 😂
@@imsocoolthatudied sick, did you stop for some reason?
@@UnknownA.P I did it up until a few months ago cuz I went broke lol 😭 but I hope to start back eventually!
@imsocoolthatudied dang, I feel you on that broke part😭hopefully it all goes as planned for you man
You say a time loop is something Gravity Falls would do, that show did do it in The Time Traveler’s Pig.
I think it should mostly count if the loop is caused by an opposing supernatural force.
he could have win if they got the pig a little earlier
That "You're probably right, but let's give her a chance anyway." is savage. xD
Bro just casually says this and MOVES ON??? 29:30
Heard this part and went straight for the comments, glitch in the matrix type beat
bro literally??
Thank you! I had to check the comments to make sure I didn't just imagine that. XD
Right!? Like, I almost shit myself when he said that 😭
Why no one else talking about this ? 😳
I swear I'm getting Mandela Effected here
I distinctly remember the Mr Moseby birthday episode, but I thought for sure it was an episode of Suite Life of Zack & Cody, and not Suite Life on Deck
Same here!
Keyan fumbling the pronunciation of Charo's name is this video's quinciñera debacle
I can't believe you didn't point out that in the episode where Zack steals Cody's report, Cody takes the most homophobic bite of a banana I've ever seen in my life
after looking for that clip the comment truly does make sense
@@hobie355 I have never forgotten it since seeing it in my childhood
lol just because he didn't shove the thing in his mouth when he has a speaking line literally 1 second after the bite? bruh
Do you mean...homoerotic? Because otherwise I have no clue how someone could eat a banana homophobically 😂
