Employees at Disney are called cast-members to remind everyone that you’re part of the show, so you better hold back those tears and force a smile as a kid throws up on you for the fourth time in a day while standing outside in 100 degree heat 90% humidity.

I wouldn’t consider myself a Disney adult, I barely consider myself an adult, but as someone who had to take on a lot of adult responsibility as a child, trying to experience childhood things in a safe and stress free environment as adult is something I 100% relate to, and Disney movies that I grew up with can definitely be part of that comfort.
sameeee literally me
Same here omg
Exactly this. Disney and Disney World are some of the only memories from my childhood that I remember with pure joy and bliss, because the rest of it is grief or other negative things. I had to grow up too fast. So if something as simple as a company and their theme park can make me fully happy, then let it make me happy.
That's fine
When we refere to Disney adults we mean Disney worshippers
Your good
I agree with you. I just wish that they would keep it childlike in the Parks. Sure, it's fun to drink and whatever, but it's not fun to be around belligerent violent drunk people, especially in a safe childlike environment.
we also have to mention how disney tumblr fans got a man fired because they were so obsessed with him as peter pan that they would chase him in the park and got angry that he got married to the woman who played wendy...
What the fuck ppl are wild?? I've seen the gif of him a couple of times but like that really sucks and that's totally unfair, I hope he's doing well :(
oh fuck i forgot about this.... i was active on tumblr when this happened and it was so fucking embarrassing. one of the many things that woke me up to the toxicity on there...
Whattttttttttttt
what? Hello?????

When people stay stuff like “you already had your shot at childhood, grow up” it just infuriates me because not everyone’s family could afford going to Disney parks when they were kids lol
I was thinking the same thing!
Like I've never been to Disney in my life and I'd love to go AT SOME point in my life like XD
everyone wants their childhood back 😔
@@nitrofairywing1541 Me too! Now that I’m an adult, I love to save up and do things that I wasn’t able to do as a kid :,D it feels really fulfilling!
@@scoobydoo5934 It also may be a little important to me for like reasons other than just the normal "I didn't get to go as a kid" but that's going pretty deep into personal stuff XD, but still I've loved Disney since I was a child, and damnit I'm good wearing an outfit that reflects Ursula 😂
My aunt works at Disney, and has for probably 40ish years? She’s probably the definition of a Disney adult. Every wall of her home is decorated with memorabilia, and she has an insane collection of every snow globe Disney has ever made in these glass display cases. Because my family is lower middle class, and because she had an employee discount, we always had our family vacations at Disney. I definitely still enjoy going to the parks every few years (I don’t have kids), but people can go way overboard. I think sports might be the best analogy. I don’t feel a ton of brand loyalty towards anything, but liking Disney that much is sort of the same as being a huge fan of some sports team and making your whole identity about that team.
my girlfriend is a disney adult and to her, she loves disney because it reminders her of the happy times of her childhood. she's actually working as a cast member right now. i learned alot about the culture from her lol

I'm not even huge on Disney but I think Disneybounding when you go to Disney is fun and sweet. As someone who is into cosplay and drag it's a wonderful way to enjoy the fun on a more personal level
Its also important for people to know that not everyone has the ability to go to something like disney world/land whatever when they're little, so going as an adult CAN be emotional! Might seem silly to see but it can be an extreme experience
I totally agree with you. Many adults going to Disneyland maybe going for the first time. I’ve learned that many of their families couldn’t afford it when they were children. It ends up being a healing experience for most of them.

Anyone else remember Disneyland had to fire a Peter Pan cast member because weirdos on tumblr got obsessed with him and started stalking him all over the park? God it was weird
I was on tumblr for that! I dont remember following any Disney blogs but even I saw the psas people would make about that and other people bugging the cast members in really dumb ways. Like shouting andy's coming and expecting the toy story actors to drop to the ground.
Yeah ! I just watched CreepshowArt’s video on it lmao
As someone who has been on tumblr since 2011, Early 2010’s tumblr was absolutely hell.
They did what? that poor cast member.
what’s even weirder is that he achieved his “fame” initially because of early youtube, livejournal, flickr and deviantart at the end of the 00s before the 10s started (yeah, this is oooold), then his popularity grew even MORE when tumblr found out about him. his life was crazy. i assume it’s calmed down since then.
My aunt is too far gone. When people pass away she only gets disney related condolence cards and posts crying Mickey gifs on Facebook.

Maybe it’s because I live mere driving distance from DisneyLand, but that does not sound as weird to me as it probably should. If anything, I’m the weird one in my community for still not watching Wandavision (let alone whatever else Marvel has put out on Disney Plus recently) and I’m probably just going to have to accept the fact that if I ever want to have a girlfriend again for the first time in college, I need to seriously brush up on my knowledge of the company and its parks to impress them.
I am a former cast member and this is so accurate 😭😭

Capitalism’s fucked, yo
Yeah and that's why I think the "there's no ethical consumption under capitalism" and "let people have fun" is not a very accurate commentary when it comes to Disney. Because participating in something that, at least to me, seems at best a bit thoughtless and at worst almost culty, without addressing the impact Disney has not only on the whole movie industry (basically monopolizing it) and the world (>>literally
SHOCKER
@@lvmln7843 what u said I'm pretty sure Kurtis and us- the audience already know, aka they ARE the symbol of CAPITALISM, therefore in order to hold them accountable we have to dismantle capitalism (personally I'm in favour of anarchy 🙃) and obviously that's not an option so why not just let people enjoy Disney (this is where the comment of no "ethical consumption in capitalism" fits in) its not like we can kill Disney off besides there's worser things to enjoy (toxic star wars fandom I'm looking at u 💀)
We're already living in a dystopia- type world anyway (covid-19, North Korea, China, Hong Kong, Palestine, Afghanistan, Saudi, America, Google, amazon, apple, inequal distribution of basic necessities .I.e MEDC eating too much and LEDC dying etc) so a little bit of Disney propaganda isn't the worst issue we gotta fix.
But hey that's just my two cents, if u lot wanna start a revolution or dress like Disney idrc you do you innit.
I believe there is a classy way to theme a room around ones interest. Unsurprisingly, the houses made by Disney are not that that at all. Also, they seem to be McMansions, which is just an automatic F if I were to grade them.

Liking Disney is like owning a cat. It can make you endearing at a casual level, but when you own 17 cats and your fashion and your home decor are all cat-themed, it’s a start of a a horror movie.

I find it so sad that people think of the Disney parks as being solely for kids, given that Walt's original vision for Disneyland was to create a place where parents could enjoy it as much as their kids.
The "Cast Members" title is actually a business move. If they change language and fluff it up to make work feel positive and important, they can spike employee retention without actually paying them more. Pretty genius actually.
Don’t forget Disney is also threatening lawsuits to small clothing businesses that make anything involving Loki. And I don’t mean the Marvel character. I mean the Norse god.
BRUH WHAT
Also- they sent cease and desist claims to people on Etsy who ate selling Loki deity candles. As in, Norse pagans who worship the actual Norse God Loki. Like, I’m sorry Disney, but you can’t keep trying to trademark other culture’s holidays, religions, and languages???
Oh... Oh wow.
What’s next Are they going to try to threaten lawsuits to people who study Greek mythology because they made the movie Hercules. Honestly it is so funny how inaccurate that movie is. But I still have to admit it is one of my favorite Disney movies 🤣
This is actually not true. Redbubble removed a shirt copied from the Loki comics because they were concerned it interfered with Disney’s trademark rights, which is would. Disney doesn’t own Loki, but they do own their interpretation of the character and his appearance in the media they produce. Also Disney didn’t even take down that specific shirt anyway, it was the website.
My uncle is definitely a Disney adult. He was adopted by my grandmother at age 13 from an extremely abusive and horrific situation that he grew up in. I once asked him why he loves Disney so much and he said that his only comforts during his bleak ass childhood were these four Disney VHS tapes that he would watch over and over again every night. They made him feel safe and It was the only way he could fall asleep. Now as an adult he has mad love for Disney, and yes, his home is filled with very tacky Disney decor, but he’s got those four VHS tapes sitting on his mantle. (Not the same exact ones from his abusive home, but the same movies), as a way to remember and pay tribute to the cartoons that he says saved his life. So I feel that.
That's sweet.
Well damn. Now we all feel like assholes.
Which movies?
well now i feel bad
🥺🥺🥺 that's a very touching story
I think it’s sweet and chill to a level, mainly enjoying the movies and characters vs objects. A lot of adults have movies or characters they really love and I think that’s normal. But I think the extreme entitlement and consumerism of some (not all or even most) Disney adults is really concerning. It would be like someone enjoying football, watching the game every Saturday, and owning some jerseys vs going to every single game in person, owning every piece of merch, and not liking people who like different sports teams than yours.
Agree
I really love hearing Isaac and Curtis talk about Disney. It’s nice to see the different perspectives!
the biggest problem i’ve ever had with disney adults is whenever a disney adult refuses to be critical of the corporation they’re following. you can enjoy something and still recognize and push back against its flaws, folks!
So truee
Yeah, this
@Austin Lee i agree with you to some degree but I and other nerodivergents have had this exact conversation before and we all agree that we are mad at first but after we calm down and think about it or enough people make the argument we kinda just start agreeing it just feel a little excessive and I personally believe that most Disney adults aren’t nerodivergent The one I know are nerotypical
I get this point, but most people don’t care about the corporation, just the products. It’s the reason I can still enjoy Kevin Spacey movies while acknowledging he’s a shitty person.
@Austin Lee i don't think this is about being neurodivergent. This is about fans being fans. Its not unique to disney and its not unique to neurodivergent people.
People making something they love part of their identity and not wanting to hear cririsim about it happens across the board. Many neurotypicals do it as well as neurodivergent people.
And, many neurotypical people don't do it, aswell as many neurodivergent people.
You know, when it comes to the Disney House, going to the theme parks every month, and buying their merch, one quote comes to mind:

I definitely agree that there are levels to this Disney Adult stuff. I’m not one of the eccentric ones but I do love picking one of the Princesses and dressing up during our trips to Disney World. It’s just fun and adds to that magical feeling. Yes, I do get that magical feeling when I’m there. It’s very immersive IF you allow it to be. There’s smells, sounds and sights if you’re someone that truly takes it all in while you’re there. Our kids and their friends that we often take all ride the bigger rides and I don’t. So it has always given me a little time alone to walk around and do whatever I want. It’s a whole experience. I’ve went and got pics with characters that the older kids would have complained about. It’s just a way I get to enjoy the trip as an adult. It’s funny one year I went to get photos with Mickey. I really appreciate the way Kurtis looked at this. I think Disney adults can sometimes go too far, but for the most part I've never understood all the hate they get. They're not hurting anyone, so why do you care? I actually disneybounded once several years ago, and it was pretty fun! An employee even stopped me and a friend and told us they liked our outfits, and gave us a pass to the VIP seating for fireworks because all the tickets hadn't been bought that night. I met a couple Disney Adults in college. we were never friends, but they were both incredibly nice, always complimented my hair, and were both very bright human beings. I found their Disney obsession to be a little odd, but like, who cares? They were nicer to me than almost everyone else. Probably because I had a Cheshire Cat backpack. Not Disney obsessed here, just high key into Wonderland.
the majority of these people aren’t hurting anyone. society just hates on people who are extremely passionate about something. it’s seen as weird and obsessive. but if they aren’t harming anyone who cares?
@@xanderkai6353 Because obsessions in general just aren't mentally healthy. Have your wall of Disney toys, but have other interests too and don't become the type of person whose conversational skills hinge on being able to steer the conversation to Disney. If you are to the point where Disney, or any company, has the kind of power where they can do anything they want and you'd never even consider boycotting them even if they turned live kids into slushies, then that's a problem. Some people *are* like that, unfortunately, which is why controversies for Disney tend to have a ton of apologists.

I used to judge the hell out of these adults but then I saw a few posts about a lot of Disney adults coming from lower class families. now as adults they can afford to go somewhere they only ever dreamed of. They still see it through the eyes of their childhood bc their inner child is getting to live out their dream.
A lot of the ones I've met arent even lower class families, their parents just spoil them n its whack (i went to school with several,,)
I totally get being able to go to a place like that. And i get going to a place every year especially parks. But some people just go so far LOL, like the iceberg thing kurtis shared.
I've always said, there is a huge difference between "adults who like Disney" and Disney Adults 😬

My friend and her family were a disney family. She goes at least every other week, wears merch wherever she goes. They lived on disney property, they could see the cinderella's castle and the fireworks right outside their window. Just one short drive down a long, winding road and boom -- they're at the parks. They had at least 10 disney year passes on their car, and their entire house was disney themed... I didn't realize how strange it was until the last year or so. I guess it's because I like disney and thought it was quirky; but looking back at it now, its pretty insane. Lol.

When I first heard about Golden Oak I thought, "hey that's different." and then he said that Walt Disney wanted to create a community that he could control and I was instantly scared.

Very late to the boat but my dad has a friend that works at DisneyWorld as a bartender at the parks, and a waiter for the hotel's various events ( for example weddings). He's worked at the park for over 20 years and is only paid 26 dollars per hour, the employees are severely underpaid and overworked ( 11 dollars per hour) and there are people who would gladly take his job.
He even covers the fact that most parties would pay a lot for the full experience and let things such as food go to waste; as the company does not let people take home services such as champagnes and wines. Why pay so much money for a party when you would be wasting a majority of the services provided.
“They’re way happier than I’ll ever be.” Literally sink that in. Fucking felt that to be honest, and although at first even I thought it’s weird, it really isn’t. It’s a hobby and it ain’t hurting anyone.
Yeah i feel like they are being controlled by a big corp but ultimately they are not harming anyone themselves, they don’t deserve public ridicule.
@@biomutant1468 Maybe not themselves, but man, there's so much money getting passed around, especially in the upper echelons of Disneytology, that you gotta wonder how the hecc these people can afford it. Pretty sure most of these people are trust fund kids that never heard the word "no" spoken to them growing up.
That's just capitalism in essence, these people don't have to worry about money, I assume, and Disney could care less if it was putting these people in massive debt, because they'll just look for the next rich kid indoctrinated into this. There's a healthy love and respect for a company that creates IPs you love, and then there's the extremes these people go to that seem more like cries for help or attention more than just being a hardcore fan.
Inb4 I'm put on a Disney blacklist for being derogatory against their cult lel
Still strange as hell

@@biomutant1468 Well it's not like Disney is some sentient machine that pumps out movies. The business execs at the top may have that attitude, but the filmmakers themselves simply do not. Disney animation is cutting edge, the music is well-made and the plotlines and characters are well written. Not to mention the top notch voice acting performances.
So really I dont see all these people as being "controlled" necessarily so much as being impacted by the art on display.
Disney trademarked "Hakuna matata" a pretty common phrase here in Kenya and Tanzania meaning "No problem".

This is part of a larger problem where American hegemony allows the US to weaponize intellectual property rights. It’s an unfathomable arrogance to position a few Americans as the “creators” over entire nations.

I only became a Disney adult after moving to Florida. I got an annual pass to save money with the intent to only visit the parks a couple times a year and ride the rides without feeling rushed since I know I can come back anytime. But over the years those visits became more and more frequent, and once the rides got old, we started exploring other parts of the park like shows, restaurants, resorts, shopping, etc. I honestly love those parts of Disney even more than just the rides. The fact that there’s always something new is what makes people want to come back. There’s limited edition merch, new rides, festivals. There’s always the fear of missing out on something exclusive. That FOMO and desire to keep up with (or stay one step ahead of) the Joneses is what eventually turns into the crazy obsessive Disney adults you see.
I think people who assume Disneyworld/Disneyland are just for kids have either never actually been or haven’t been since they were a kid. I’d say the parks are pretty adult friendly, especially Epcot and Hollywood studios. My dad in his 50s is a classic Disney hater, but we finally paid for his ticket and dragged him along for one day at those two parks and he had a great time. He’s even considering buying an annual pass 😆
I wouldn't call myself a Disney adult, but I get what you're talking about. My closest Disney park is in another country a good 8h flight away, so when I went for the first time to Disneyland in California, it was pretty transformative. I wasn't even that excited prior, but figured I should go while I'm in LA. The minute I walked in, I said to myself "I get why they call this the happiest place on earth". Very much an escapism, and there's so many parts to explore beyond the rides (even at a small park like CA).

Both the woman who said "If you dream of it just do it" and the dude who said "you had your chance as a kid" sounds so fucking privileged. Not everyone can afford doing whatever they want all the time. Not everyone had the possibility to do things like that as a kid.
i agree with the second one but i think the woman was just trying to be encouraging, at least i hope so
I thought the same thing! Some people can be so ignorant
Yeah, I haven't been to any Disney parks, I dream on going there when I can afford to go, hopefully I can bring my parents as well
I agree with that sentiment because there’s things I couldn’t afford as a kid too, but I can also remember being a kid and feeling intimidated and uncomfortable when big kids were playing at the city park and I was there. And we’ve all seen how girls flirt with Peter Pan at Disney, I feel like that’s a really weird thing for kids to have to witness while they’re trying to meet him or any other character at the park.

Dude, these jokes, especially the “losers” and “little Buzz” 🤣 🤣 🤣
Disney adults make me sad and a little bit jealous because I’d give anything to be THAT passionate about anything. It must be so great to feel that level of joy around something
a lot of them are neurodivergent so its usually hyperfixation. its great to feel the happiness around it but when something bad happens it causes anxiety and other negative feelings.
i’m a full on disney adult, no shame, and i would just like to say thank you for this because i feel like so many people get so unreasonably upset about it
I really hope you get to feel it one day bc I’m neurodivergent & personally I feel like I’m losing my ability to have special interests like that as I grow up & id give anything to hyperfixate like I used to. like learning every dinosaur fact as a kid & watching Jurassic park 200 times without any self restriction felt so freeing. I guess the downside though is that people around you won’t be as into it so it’s a little alienating/depressing especially when you become aware of how little other people care about the things you do (even if they aren’t outright shitting on you for it, if they’re not into something you can’t blame them either). I guess at some point it just gets to you even with the whole ‘fuck what everyone else thinks !! be who you wanna be !!whatever don’t care don’t give shit’ thing. anyways yeah it’s a cool feeling & it makes me feel alive
Wow. This entire comment thread is very eye opening. I myself am an intense Marvel/MCU fan. I've been feeling a little alienated lately by people who don't like Marvel and other things I'm into like I do. It's really comforting to know that there's a word for it and that once I'm an adult I can still love these things. Excited to do more research, thanks!
@@percabethisawesome1163 I’ve felt the same way about growing out of hyper fixations, but I’ve also found some new ways you can appreciate things as an adult. One of mine is The Beatles, so I listened to a related podcast while going on long walks and listen to their music in between breaks. If you make money you have more freedom to buy things you couldn’t buy before in relation to it. I’m also at a maturity level that I’m able to focus on some of the more complex aspects of their history. It’s different from when you’re a kid but it can still be just as fun in its own different way.
