The crazy thing about denying Spiderman being used on a tombstone to preserve the innocence of the characters if there are deaths IN Spiderman! Including the deaths of "heroes" or "good guys." Death is a pretty common trope in Disney movies, so I have no clue how they thought that excuse was going to work.
Because the excuse part wasn't important and didn't matter the only thing that matter was the legal part and the legal part did in fact work lol Half ass explanation for why you're not allowed to do it does still leave you at "not allowed to do it"
@@Pragabond Except it does very much matter. A company as big as Disney will often try to save face. With how big they are, they absolutely have a PR team and should've known there were better excuses out there.
@brett8259 I mean I don't really think there IS a better excuse. If you can think of one that would save face more by all means share but I can't think of any excuse that wouldnt be worse even as bad as that one is. "We family friendly so no death" was probably their best bet I think.
@@Pragabond Their best bet would have been allowing the use of it. There's no "better excuse" because what they did was shitty and most people recognize that.

yeah there's definitely a line between "disney adults" and "adults who enjoy disney". i personally love going to the theme parks and have my favorite characters....but i dont devote my whole personality to it lol
I dated a guy who was going on an internship to Disneyland. Before the internship his father went into debt so his family could go to Disney WORLD before he left on the internship where he'd be at Disney for a semester. This guy also sold his car to go on this internship. Never ceases to amaze.
that woman in the golden oaks video is wearing a shirt that said "i run on shakeology", which is a product from the Beach Body MLM. she's literally in a pyramid scheme which i feel like is the most Disney adult thing ever
I love the fact that you worked hard to distinguish between creepy Disney adults and normal Disney adults who just want to have fun without hurting anyone
My dad isn't technically a Disney Adult. He comes off as an intimidating military man, and the few interests he talks about are sci-fi movies and stuff. But in the car, he almost always listens to Disney movie and VeggieTales soundtracks, and that's what you'll sometimes hear him singing around the house. I figured someone here'd appreciate that story.
My dad likes musicals and doesn't look at all like the kind of 70 year old man who likes them. He just likes to sing. Usually something Les Mis or Phantom or Oklahoma, but he's been known to sing the Rolling Stones or rap Eminem. I mean hes's a terrible rapper, but he has the spirit. And he even looks less like an Eminem fan.
Does he sing “WHEEEERE IS MY HAIRBRUSH oh WHEEEEERE ISMYHAIRBRUSH” I still sing veggie tails often despite being a full goth adult hahahahha Edit: yes I appreciate this because this is niche me singing veggie tales often out loud and in my head hahaha

Maybe it’s because I live mere driving distance from DisneyLand, but that does not sound as weird to me as it probably should. If anything, I’m the weird one in my community for still not watching Wandavision (let alone whatever else Marvel has put out on Disney Plus recently) and I’m probably just going to have to accept the fact that if I ever want to have a girlfriend again for the first time in college, I need to seriously brush up on my knowledge of the company and its parks to impress them.

I used to date someone who has since turned onto a Disney adult. Her obsession is to the point that it's worrying. When she meets "rare" costume characters she weeps from happiness. Seriously. She goes down to Florida every couple of months by herself to visit Disney World. We live in Wisconsin. She is terrified of flying and has a panic attack every time, but she NEEDS to go. She did the Disney half marathon recently even though she has bad knees. She had to because the rare costume characters were waiting at the end to congratulate her. She is still in physical therapy for what she did to her knees. She is not wealthy. No way is she not using credit cards to do it. She's 42. It's just wild to me. ETA all of her tattoos that include words are in the Disney font.
I always feel so sorry for people like this. Like regardless of what the hobby is, no one should be so obsessed with something that they cause themselves physical, emotion, and/or financial damage just to keep up with it. It genuinely is like an addiction the same way some people turn to shopping or gambling. Be passionate about whatever you want, but not at the expense of literally every other part of your life. I hope she can come to more healthy enjoyment of Disney someday.
Disney adults are equaled only by NFL, NBA, MLB Adults. If you redo the entire video and just replace the word “Disney” with “Pittsburgh Steelers” (or any other sports team) it still plays the same message.
@@davemccage7918that can be true honestly I never thought of it that way but I know some people that will literally start fight over there favorite team. That shits crazy to me imo 😂 but yeah my dad who is a big soccer fan can be a little annoying about his favorite team but he generally will never get that crazy with it. At least from what I’ve seen growing up. The most he does is get mad or upset when they lose he will never cause himself physical and mental pain over that shit.
@@Martin_salcedo Yeah people fighting over sports teams is insane. I read stories of riots in the UK after a soccer match that leads to dozens of deaths over a GAME. The other sports fan phenomena that befuddles me is people that get sports team logo tattoos. I would understand if you played for the team, but the end of the day, it’s just a brand. Can you imagine people walking around with Walmart or Taco Bell tattoos?
Don't forget a kid got stabbed at disney and they didn't allow paramedics into the park because it would 'ruin the fantasy' for the other guests, so they had a nurse from the park drive him to the hospital in her private car and he died on the way because they got stuck in traffic

Came here just for this comment. I grew up in Sweden, and our family did not have the money to fly us all to Paris and visit Disneyland. Definitely not Disney World FL. I'm not a big Disney fan, but that comment is so privileged and naive it pissed me off lol.
Disney adults make me sad and a little bit jealous because I’d give anything to be THAT passionate about anything. It must be so great to feel that level of joy around something
a lot of them are neurodivergent so its usually hyperfixation. its great to feel the happiness around it but when something bad happens it causes anxiety and other negative feelings.
i’m a full on disney adult, no shame, and i would just like to say thank you for this because i feel like so many people get so unreasonably upset about it
I really hope you get to feel it one day bc I’m neurodivergent & personally I feel like I’m losing my ability to have special interests like that as I grow up & id give anything to hyperfixate like I used to. like learning every dinosaur fact as a kid & watching Jurassic park 200 times without any self restriction felt so freeing. I guess the downside though is that people around you won’t be as into it so it’s a little alienating/depressing especially when you become aware of how little other people care about the things you do (even if they aren’t outright shitting on you for it, if they’re not into something you can’t blame them either). I guess at some point it just gets to you even with the whole ‘fuck what everyone else thinks !! be who you wanna be !!whatever don’t care don’t give shit’ thing. anyways yeah it’s a cool feeling & it makes me feel alive
Wow. This entire comment thread is very eye opening. I myself am an intense Marvel/MCU fan. I've been feeling a little alienated lately by people who don't like Marvel and other things I'm into like I do. It's really comforting to know that there's a word for it and that once I'm an adult I can still love these things. Excited to do more research, thanks!
@@percabethisawesome1163 I’ve felt the same way about growing out of hyper fixations, but I’ve also found some new ways you can appreciate things as an adult. One of mine is The Beatles, so I listened to a related podcast while going on long walks and listen to their music in between breaks. If you make money you have more freedom to buy things you couldn’t buy before in relation to it. I’m also at a maturity level that I’m able to focus on some of the more complex aspects of their history. It’s different from when you’re a kid but it can still be just as fun in its own different way.
This is part of a larger problem where American hegemony allows the US to weaponize intellectual property rights. It’s an unfathomable arrogance to position a few Americans as the “creators” over entire nations.
My college/shortly after college ex came from a Disney family. His mom had a Disney shirt/outfit for everything including what she referred to as “classy Mickey” for formal events such as weddings (including being the mother of the bride), funerals, showers, and special events. Their family took a yearly trip to Disney. My ex dragged me to Disney once after we had been together out of college for a couple years and it was the straw that broke me. A kid dumped an entire smoothie down my leg and into my shoe and we still spent another 10 hours in the park. We only took one “adult” trip during our multi year relationship and I remember saying “isn’t this fun? We can do this as we get older” and he said “no, we will take Disney trips with our family”. We were not on the same page -I don’t think Disney and non Disney people are meant to be together lol

My friend, his mom is most likely the biggest Disney adult to exist. He has multiple Fs in grades and has been yelled at by teachers because he has missed over a fourth of the school year going to Disneyland because his mom can’t stop going there.
Making a kid miss out on that much of a school year just to go on vacation is insane. Like the other commenter here said, his chances of having a good job could be completely ruined because of this.

I met a couple Disney Adults in college. we were never friends, but they were both incredibly nice, always complimented my hair, and were both very bright human beings. I found their Disney obsession to be a little odd, but like, who cares? They were nicer to me than almost everyone else. Probably because I had a Cheshire Cat backpack. Not Disney obsessed here, just high key into Wonderland.

@@xanderkai6353 Because obsessions in general just aren't mentally healthy. @Austin Lee i don't think this is about being neurodivergent. This is about fans being fans. Its not unique to disney and its not unique to neurodivergent people. My uncle is definitely a Disney adult. He was adopted by my grandmother at age 13 from an extremely abusive and horrific situation that he grew up in. I once asked him why he loves Disney so much and he said that his only comforts during his bleak ass childhood were these four Disney VHS tapes that he would watch over and over again every night. They made him feel safe and It was the only way he could fall asleep. Now as an adult he has mad love for Disney, and yes, his home is filled with very tacky Disney decor, but he’s got those four VHS tapes sitting on his mantle. (Not the same exact ones from his abusive home, but the same movies), as a way to remember and pay tribute to the cartoons that he says saved his life. So I feel that.
My drivers test handler person was a Disney adult. Sis wore Minnie Mouse glasses, Disney shoes and dress, Disney phone case and purse, even had a Disney coffee cup with her. Don’t forget Disney is also threatening lawsuits to small clothing businesses that make anything involving Loki. And I don’t mean the Marvel character. I mean the Norse god.
Also- they sent cease and desist claims to people on Etsy who ate selling Loki deity candles. As in, Norse pagans who worship the actual Norse God Loki. Like, I’m sorry Disney, but you can’t keep trying to trademark other culture’s holidays, religions, and languages???
What’s next Are they going to try to threaten lawsuits to people who study Greek mythology because they made the movie Hercules. Honestly it is so funny how inaccurate that movie is. But I still have to admit it is one of my favorite Disney movies 🤣
This is actually not true. Redbubble removed a shirt copied from the Loki comics because they were concerned it interfered with Disney’s trademark rights, which is would. Disney doesn’t own Loki, but they do own their interpretation of the character and his appearance in the media they produce. Also Disney didn’t even take down that specific shirt anyway, it was the website.
It’s worse than just the employees at the parks. Every single employee of the Disney corporation is called a cast member. I have a cousin who worked at ESPN for years. After the acquisition they were all called cast members too
When people stay stuff like “you already had your shot at childhood, grow up” it just infuriates me because not everyone’s family could afford going to Disney parks when they were kids lol
I've been to Disneyworld once and I wasnt a year old at the time when i was seven told my mom I wish I can go to Disney and she told me I'd already gone. It broke my little heart and 15 years later I still havent been able go "again" this is probably why I'm a little bit of a Disney adult.

I used to judge the hell out of these adults but then I saw a few posts about a lot of Disney adults coming from lower class families. now as adults they can afford to go somewhere they only ever dreamed of. They still see it through the eyes of their childhood bc their inner child is getting to live out their dream.
I totally get being able to go to a place like that. And i get going to a place every year especially parks. But some people just go so far LOL, like the iceberg thing kurtis shared.

Yeah and that's why I think the "there's no ethical consumption under capitalism" and "let people have fun" is not a very accurate commentary when it comes to Disney. That's just capitalism in essence, these people don't have to worry about money, I assume, and Disney could care less if it was putting these people in massive debt, because they'll just look for the next rich kid indoctrinated into this. So really I dont see all these people as being "controlled" necessarily so much as being impacted by the art on display.
Its always crazy to me that people go to Disney parks that often. I live in Spain and I've been to Disneyland twice in my life, and my parents had to save up money for the whole year just so we could afford to go there for 1 week

i'll never forget reading some rando's comment on facebook claiming they're "not a disney adult" because they only go to disney world a couple times a year. a couple times a year.
What gets me about Disney Adults is the way they are constantly making conspiracy theories about everything. They say things like "Did you know this rock from the lion king is the same rock in moana? Amazing world building!"
Yes. They deadass seem to believe that Disney is making an effort to have all their movies in the same universe, like it’s the Disney Animated Canon Cinematic Universe (or DACCU) and this was all Walt’s plan from the very beginning. Though actually apparently the 100th anniversary movie that comes out in 2023, Wish, DOES try to combine all the movies into one universe somehow?! Which is just terrific and necessary for sure
I mean there certainly are Easter eggs in Disney movies connecting them to other ones. The most common one to reference is that the rapunzel and Flynn rider are in the crowd in frozen
I’ve heard conspiracy theories of Anna and Elsa being related to Tarzan and Rapunzel. (I kinda believe in the Rapunzel theory because princess Anna do make an appearance in Tangled and Rapunzel & Eugene make a cameo in Frozen.)
It's not a "conspiracy theory". Disney has always added Easter eggs to their films. Many franchises do this. They also will reuse the same scenes from films to save on budget b ut replace with different characters.

As you can see- I’m a “DISNEY adult” lol although I’m in recovery 🤣 how we all do it is passes. You pay for a Pass and can go pretty much whenever you want. I had the second highest pass that included free parking, food discounts, merch discounts, and all days are available besides the two weeks at Christmas. I paid only $130/month. But the trick is need you to be a CA resident. I would go home from work, and eat dinner and instead of going out to the mall or something my friends would meet up at the parks. BUT- these passes are changing.

That's sweet.
Well damn. Now we all feel like assholes.

No, but, seriously, it's just that we are not yet completely flooded by capitalism, big companies, and consumer fever. People are not yet fully braindead buyers, and there's a kind of critical mind about all that stuff, moreover there's a real identity and a full History and cultural backgrounds, not just stuff made up by big companies and merch.
We don't find as commonly and in as many places gadgets and merch for adults but we can easily find them, just more rarely, and there is always internet. It's just that/because adults don't want to buy them and don't find interest in them (there's certainly some exceptions of course), as an adult (and even as a child, just less), it's just considered wayyyyy to much over the top , nobrain consumer vibes, and a little creepy to wear and use the full Disney apparels and items panoply.

Don’t forget Disney is also threatening lawsuits to small clothing businesses that make anything involving Loki. And I don’t mean the Marvel character. I mean the Norse god.
BRUH WHAT
Also- they sent cease and desist claims to people on Etsy who ate selling Loki deity candles. As in, Norse pagans who worship the actual Norse God Loki. Like, I’m sorry Disney, but you can’t keep trying to trademark other culture’s holidays, religions, and languages???
Oh... Oh wow.
After the acquisition they were all called cast members too

my friend did that program for a couple of years, went down from canada to florida for it. the only way she managed was that her parents paid her rent and travel so she was able to keep her full pay
I would honestly do that if I lived in America.
I used to judge the hell out of these adults but then I saw a few posts about a lot of Disney adults coming from lower class families. now as adults they can afford to go somewhere they only ever dreamed of. They still see it through the eyes of their childhood bc their inner child is getting to live out their dream.

Capitalism’s fucked, yo
Yeah and that's why I think the "there's no ethical consumption under capitalism" and "let people have fun" is not a very accurate commentary when it comes to Disney. Because participating in something that, at least to me, seems at best a bit thoughtless and at worst almost culty, without addressing the impact Disney has not only on the whole movie industry (basically monopolizing it) and the world (>>literally
SHOCKER
@@lvmln7843 what u said I'm pretty sure Kurtis and us- the audience already know, aka they ARE the symbol of CAPITALISM, therefore in order to hold them accountable we have to dismantle capitalism (personally I'm in favour of anarchy 🙃) and obviously that's not an option so why not just let people enjoy Disney (this is where the comment of no "ethical consumption in capitalism" fits in) its not like we can kill Disney off besides there's worser things to enjoy (toxic star wars fandom I'm looking at u 💀)
We're already living in a dystopia- type world anyway (covid-19, North Korea, China, Hong Kong, Palestine, Afghanistan, Saudi, America, Google, amazon, apple, inequal distribution of basic necessities .I.e MEDC eating too much and LEDC dying etc) so a little bit of Disney propaganda isn't the worst issue we gotta fix.
But hey that's just my two cents, if u lot wanna start a revolution or dress like Disney idrc you do you innit.

That sounds amazing, I want it so badly now
My workmate made me a wine bottle with fairy lights and spiders in it. Love it.

@@biomutant1468 Maybe not themselves, but man, there's so much money getting passed around, especially in the upper echelons of Disneytology, that you gotta wonder how the hecc these people can afford it. Pretty sure most of these people are trust fund kids that never heard the word "no" spoken to them growing up.
That's just capitalism in essence, these people don't have to worry about money, I assume, and Disney could care less if it was putting these people in massive debt, because they'll just look for the next rich kid indoctrinated into this. There's a healthy love and respect for a company that creates IPs you love, and then there's the extremes these people go to that seem more like cries for help or attention more than just being a hardcore fan.

BUT- these passes are changing. (Whoever said credit cards and debt is also right!) too many people had these passes and would over pack the parks- so now they’re changing everything to slow it all down and limit capacities

@@npcimknot958 Lollll true it is expensive but honestly I never really liked rollercoasters or amusement parks so I never begged my parents to go
Even if you’re deemed a Disney adult, who cares what others think
The one thing that scares me is when people go so often to the parks and they know the costumed people and are like “I was here yesterday remember? I gave you a rose. Today I want to tell you a crappy joke” Image this adult finding you everyday and shoving a camera in you face badgering you and you have to maintain composure and stay in character
oof yeah, i remember when my recommendations were suddenly flooded by a ton of people talking to the characters at Disney and it took me *so* long to realize they were all made by the same person
If I went to Disney, I'd probably take a photo with the characters, but I can't imagine trying to make small talk other than "thanks for the picture"
I forgot what video is was, think its like buzz feed or glamour interview with the people that work as Disney Princesses. Mentioned FATHERS WITH THERE CHILDREN, have said some creepy / sexual things to them, discussing. That super scares me.
Seeing Disney adults protest the park closing during the pandemic was both hilarious and depressing
Disclaimer: I’m not talking about the employees Disney left high and dry while the parks were closed who lost their income/benefits because they couldn’t work, I’m talking about adults who wanted the parks to reopen regardless of public safety concerns
I think that was boomer parents of disney kids, not millenials.
@@beverycarefuljohn586 yeah the pics i saw were people pushing 50
@@beverycarefuljohn586 the urban dictionary definition referenced in the vid deff ignores the fact that boomers and gen x’ers can be Disney adults too. I’ve met quite a few, who then turned their millennial kids into Disney adults.
The CYCLE
Yeah I love Disney and I went to Disney every weekend before the pandemic but when I closed I understood why and I wasn’t complaining lol.
I'm not a Disney Adult, but I have been and currently in groups that are treated like them by outsiders. We need more people like you; looking into it with a neutral stance, calling out mean people and double standards, and reminding people to live and let live.
i really like these “video essay” style videos kurtis has been doing, he’s so good at managing to be informative, interesting, AND funny
ikr
The AI one will always be my fave cos it really sent me down a rabbit hole of OpenAI Jukebox videos, that I still search up to this day lol
literally like transitions and points and everything i love it
me too!!
the interview at the end was the cherry on top!
The women living in the Disney house wearing an “I run on shakeology” shirt really sealed the deal. She’s used to cult mentality if she’s in an pyramid scheme
My aunt is in the shakeology pyramid scheme and the shakes slap
@@sablethompson4729 lmao lo
i originally thought shakeology was just a group of zumba moms.......
@@ourloveisgreat1398 Zumba moms is the main pyramid scheme demographic
Yeah, she’s super high up in Beachbody. The clip with her talking about going to check out your dream or whatever is to manipulate her followers. She can afford that expensive house in Disney due to exploiting people through beachbody.
“anikin, may the force be with you”
*”DIVORCE?!??”*
I had to pause at that part😭😭
YOU TURNED HER AGAINST ME?!
