Ladies and gentlemen, today we will show you what it's like to DIY Ceramic Coat a 2022 C8 Corvette. As Darren will explain, the thought of doing this yourself should not intimidate you. We show you, step by step, exactly what products to use and how to use them. Brink of Speed Store: daggercustomapparel.com/brink_of_speed_gear/shop/home
Hello! So I've found a c7 zo6 at a dealer and the sticker price is $60,000. If I pay cash for the car, how much should I talk the dealer down too out the door? Thanks for any suggestions!
Something I've learned over the many years of taking care of my own cars on how to detect imperfections in the paint. You take a thin piece of cloth such as an unfolded handkerchief, put it down on the paint, put the palm of your hand on it, and move back and forth slowly and it's like an amplifier in that it magnifies the defect that makes it easy to feel. The other thing I learned by listening to some people that were professional auto painters was that when you are rubbing on the paint, you should always go in straight lines, preferably in the direction of the air flow, and never in circular motions. Circular motions will tend to create swirlies in the paint eventually. That may not be a problem once it's ceramic coated but it definitely will before. Very good DIY video. 👍😊
Don’t forget to mention when you’re done wiping the ceramic coat off you need to throw those towels away because the ceramic will crystallize and you don’t want to scratch paint with that same towel again
Watched your video and decided I could DIY my vette. LOL I am not sure I will do that again! It turned out good, but it was a helluva lot of work for 1 person. Keep making great videos. If you come down to Houston let me know. I would love to seeCaptain America in person.
Great video Mike. I believe your best. Really appreciate the information. I trade my cars about every year so never could justify $2000. This makes it all worth it. Just was always intimidated by the process.
Very good video. Except for the paint imperfection areas (Which I would have had the dealership resolve before I took possession of the car), I cannot see using the medium grade buffing compound on the ENTIRE NEW car. The very light grade buffing compound should have been adequate. But only you know how the car’s finish appeared new. You did a great job preparing the car otherwise, and I learned from you. I plan to do a PPF on the high impact areas when my C8 arrives in about a year. Then a ceramic coat over the PPF and all other areas of the car. (Probably a Red Mist). Oh - and I really liked Daren’s shirt! Thank you very much.
Another great upload MIke. This brings back a memory when I was considering buying a new Vette and was talking to my friend who has a body shop. A very, very high-end body shop. The first thing he told me to do was "Tell the dealer not to touch it! No dealer detailing whatsoever! Then if you can, trailer it to me, but if not drive it right from the dealer to me." That was a great reminder about not to Ceramic Coat if you're going to have PPF installed. I always forget about that! On a different note, you're even able to Ceramic Coat your seats as well. THAT is absolute amazing as well, especially if you have leather seats. Now I wonder when I'll be able to Ceramic coat my jeans? 😁 Off topic, but you know what caught my eye in the video? The fact that you C8 guys can have your wiper arms totally vertical. I can't do that with my C6 GS. Hey, it's the little things that matter. Like when it comes time to clean and protect the windshield too. 😉 Save the Wave🙋♂ Oh yeah, tell Darin I love his t-shirt that he was wearing at the end of the video! You can also tell him that his C8 is a masterful overstatement of subtlety. I like it! 👍👍 Oh yeah, just one more comment. Don't get used to these "short" comments. 🤣🤣
Thanks Peter, I’m happy you enjoyed it! Yep, this is true. If you don’t want the paint ruined, don’t let the dealership touch it. Lol, jeans, I was thinking of getting my teeth ceramic coated, this way, brushing takes a fraction of the time. 😃 I guess I had forgotten that the wipers on a C6 are mentally challenged 😂 GM decided to smarten them up for the C8 I guess. Yup, the windshield is amazing after it’s coated. It’s like having RainX on steroids. I’ll let him know you liked his shirt. Please keep the short comments coming. 😊👍
Ha, Ha. Let me take some Poetic License if you will and say: "You're a Funny Guy!" 🤣 "The wipers on a C6 are mentally challenged." Are you trying to tell me something? Okay, I get it. But, now I know how to solve at least one of my mental challenges. Boy, it's so simple too. All I have to do is buy a C8! Now why didn't I think about that!? (No comments please.😉) Wait 'til I tell the woman I live with that, THANKS TO YOU, I'm now able to solve one of mental challenges, disabilities or whatever she calls these "things" that I supposedly have, with one easy purchase. It'll only take me maybe 3 to 5 years and a mere $80k to $100k to do it! She'll be tickled pink. Oh wait, I see she's going to the phone. You can expect a phone call from her any minute. Hey, I might be dumb, but I'm not stupid. Why do you think I dropped your name when she asked where I come up with THAT IDEA!? Have fun dealing with her! We'll both end up as roommates in a Mental Institution. If we're lucky! Save the Waves while you can. Your wrists may be broken within a week's time. She's now on the phone making plane reservations. Obviously, you didn't pick up the phone. There goes my peaceful day. THANKS TO YOU!
😂🤣😂 Me a funny guy…not near as funny as you! Lol, I’m ready for her. I have a psychiatrist ready to explain to your wife, how the C6 wipers threw me into a mental state. 🤪 And the C8 was the only thing that brought me out of it. 🤣 This should do 2 things. 1: Calm her down and 2: move you closer to getting your C8! When she gets home, I guarantee, she will let you out of the dog house. 😃
Now hold the phone, wait just a cotton-pick'n minute, stop the music! Listen Mr. Smarty Pants, Sage of Dallas, Seer of All Things great and small. Listen to this! So, you think I'm going to be "let out of the doghouse!?" I just got off the phone with some guy from ABC Construction Co., yeah, that sounds legit, doesn't it? He said he's calling "to arrange a time to come and do some mods." So, I asked him what mods? He tells me, to enlarge and insulate a Doghouse." Well, we ain't getting no Great Dane, so why is this being done. PLUS, the doorbell just rang a little while ago. I answer and it's a delivery from Chewy.com with a 100lb box of XXL Milk Bones! WHAT!? I'm the only one here that loves milk! My shepherds won't drink milk! When the woman is motivated, she's faster than a speeding bullet and more powerful than locomotive and can even leap tall buildings in a single bound. I call her my Wonder Woman, because I always "wonder" what the devil she's going to do next!? Would you have room in your backyard for a Doghouse? I'm very well trained. All I need is some milk but with some Chocolate Chip cookies would be nice. I'm also pretty good at standing guard 24/7 too. I'm also not a party animal, so your neighbors will never have to call the cops on you, and I won't have any strange girls over. But I kind'a have a hanker'n for girls in cowboy boots and hats. Eeee ahhh! Oh yeah, one last thing. By the time she's done with having just a few words with you, you and I may end up as roommates in a Mental Institution somewhere. Oh the humanity!🤦♂
Nice video and Perfect timing! I also have a 2022 Hypersonic Grey C8 (coup) and have been researching doing the ceramic coating myself. Wish I still lived in Dallas. 20F in Des Moines today and too cold to work on the C8!
Nice VID. Right now this is my top choice color. Can't wait to get my Z06 PPFed then Ceramic coated. Think I'll pay to have it done but great to know the process. You guys getting a Z06?
We did the wheels on the car separately, we have the footage filmed and likely will put out a video on that very soon. You are correct coating the wheels and glass makes cleaning and maintenance a breeze. You will also see in a recent video we installed Carbotech brake pads which cuts down on the dust dramatically. Thanks for Watching
Very nice DIY video. I have had several cars professionally ceramic coated, even though I am an avid detail enthusiast. Last fall I did my my 1st car myself, using Adam's Advanced Graphene. It was definitely learning process regarding high spots. I think this CG ceramic coating is less prone to messing up.
Another great video Mike, man is that car beautiful I wanna complement you on your drone shots too you do a fantastic job with a Videos I think I’m going to do my own car after seeing this video what a great job
Thank you, I’m happy you enjoyed it, and thank you for your complement, I enjoy getting awesome cinematic shots. You should definitely give it a shot, it’s not hard, just time consuming. 😊👍
@@BrinkofSpeed hey I just wondered you seem to have a finger on the pulse of the Corvette world have you heard anything about 1000 hp coming next after the z06? I’ve heard a couple rumors at dealers here in Michigan about it
Don't forget to mention that after wiping off the ceramic coat you need to throw the microfiber towels away because the ceramic will crystallize and you don't want to scratch another vehicle using that same towels
This looks great may consider doing it .. I ordered a 2022 C8 put deposit back in Sept still haven't picked options yet.. I want the 2LT but I have a sensitivity to wireless and the 2LT seems to have more wireless then the 1LTI'm wondering if some of the wireless can be disabled .Id really like to get thr front lift cause my C5 scrapes my driveway every time, Is the front lift not on 1LT can it be added aftermarket? . Anyway what is mag ride? Can you explain that?
Little extra buffing, you can also use a heavier polish compound, chemical guys has one called V32 for these situations you can buy a 4oz. Bottle. The V32 also works on swirl marks if your car is older.
Clay bar and then ceramic on the glass is all that is needed on a newer vehicle. If you have an older car the polishes work awesome on glass and will make it appear new, I’ve done this in the past.
The product is rated to Last 5 years, factors that will play into that is how often you drive it and wash. They do make glazes your can apply over the ceramic coating. I use the detail spray products that are made for ceramic coated vehicles and find that works great as maintenance and keeping the brilliant shine.

Excellent video and very helpful for those of us that would rather DIY and save the money for other mods, so thank you. I was wondering if you could publish a list of all of the materials used. I could go through and write everything down I guess. Just want to confirm that you ceramic coated the glass as well?
@@robertmcdonald1555 soon, the process for the wheels is simple just clean them and use the wipe out surface cleaner to get the really clean and then apply the same ceramic coating.
Thank you. I totally understand, but if you do ceramic you won’t ever need to use wax again. You can still detail your car with ceramic boost spray and act like you’re waxing your car. It’s a million times better than the best wax products out there. 😊👍
If you try the ceramic coating 💯 you will change your mind. If your are comfortable with waxing this will be a breeze, give it a try on your daily driver.
