I know this was a while ago now but how did the FX Unit work out for you? I'm using the mixer with several bassline and drum synths but for drum'n'bass oriented stuff so very curious to hear your thoughts, please.
Finally an actual analog mixer. Hope there are more of these later on in the future along with vinyl turntables making DJ's and producers to actual create something that will get people moving on the dancefloor. Regardless of the style of the genre.
Mojaxx, many thanks for this review. Been keen on this mixer for a minute but unfortunately can't get one here in Australia to get hands-on, so this review is very much welcome indeed.
That's the big issue with this kind of mixer! Definitely suggest you join the 'Rotation' facebook group if you haven't already, lots of good discussion and feedback from lovers of hardware like this.
@@andif8 Yes they are amazing and beautiful creations, not to mention the gent behind them is the real deal, genuine and worth supporting. But their models unfortunately don't have crossfaders. That is the only thing I am missing. Otherwise I would have gotten one years ago!

Ahhh. Fantastic mixer. I wish they added filter knob to each channel as Pioneer standard. That would be a killer. maybe in next version. Looking forward to second FX unit with BPM tempo. Maybe by this time I would have money for it hahahah.
I love the look of this mixer, and indeed all of the Master Sounds range. What concerns me is the potential servicing costs of a mixer that has valves.
Hey Mickey, thanks for the kind words on our 4V range. As for the valves we run a low current through them, this enables us to give the mixer it's unique character as Mojaxx described, but meaning long valve life is ensured.
Seems like a really nice kit. Iv'e never come across a rotary mixer in real life, would be fun to try one. I agree on the idea to have an FX unit version that can be use with the more regular mixers out there, that would be nice for sure. Thanks for sharing:)
Looking to get this piece of gear.. Though im not a big fan of the fx unit without realtime delay. what could work with this mixer (i heard in one of your videos that the pioneer rmx doesnt)
I do own one, and the clicking is amazing to feel and hear. And don't worry u will not accidentally switch them etc, they are pretty tough, at the same time when want to switch, it turns out to be easy.)
@@gapparov.n I'm not worried about accidentally hitting the switches. I'm thinking more about audible clicks and pops in the mix when assigning the crossfader to different channels.
Hey DJcityTV, I currently have a setup with a Xone:92 and 2 XDJ-1000 Mk-2's and I am looking for an effects unit that works well with this while playing mostly techno. Do you think the Mastersounds FX is a good option or should I go for guitar pedals or perhaps an RMX instead? I tried the RMX-500 but for some reason I cannot get it to work properly. Would this be a good alternative?
As a vinyl DJ - I'm 55 years old (bald patch, tinnitus, you know how it is) - I really struggle to see the point of fucking arsing about with FX. To me - and it's just my opinion - it's like a mate saying he's going to the Louvre to see the Mona Lisa, and me saying, "Great, I'll go and get my feltips. I'm sure I can add a pair of glasses. Surely that'll add to her significant beauty!" Here's a thought, DJs, just play the track, as the artist intended. Don't like it? Make your own track. Cake in the face? Fuck off! Enlighten me, youngsters.
Almost youngster here (although same bald patch and tinnitus) - I felt the same for a long time. But I was always mixing the same style of music where effects would have sounded pretty ugly and distracting. But I’ve been doing some more digital mixing recently (using a pioneer controller) and been messing around with various genres and mixing styles, and it makes sense - especially delay, reverb and effects where the effect continues after the fader is down - great way of moving between two tracks of different styles or tempos where traditional blending isn’t an option. I guess a full on outboard effects unit like this is designed more for the more minimal and alternative and underground electronic music styles that I bet neither of us listen to, where the tracks are deliberately made to layer over other tracks and effects to make a more broader soundscape of a mix. I’ll leave those guys to it though...
I'm 54 and with all the characteristics you mentioned :) As far as effects, I think DJ's have somewhat backed themselves into a corner by playing to crowds that have come of age with EDM. This features drops, build ups, beat loops, distortion etc. (I do like post fader echo however for mixed format sets..). None of this stuff I grew up with spinning vinyl. So I know where you are coming from. Just the same, the younger generation is genetically distracted, has little natural rhythm in my opinion and spends their time looking at the DJ or their phone...not feeling the music. If you dropped them into a late 80's Club, they would be lost. So DJ's have had to fight distraction with distraction. You still have some older DJ's like Ron Trent, Louie Vega, Timmy Regisford, Francois K who play it straight... but look at their crowds... they are all pushing or above 50! Effects have their place, but you just have to remember which market you are playing to.
I get where you are coming from. I tend to use FX not to mess with a track but, where i'm in the middle of a track and there is no obvious phrase to use as part of mixing out, that's where FX comes in handy. It's like creating your own phrase/tension/signal of change for a transition. Hopefully that made sense (it makes sense in my head ;) )
the channel that Mojaxx mentions - theDJStuff - has a video specifically showcasing the FX Unit with Xone96 and they show a cabling setup diagram as well
I think Purplesound deals with Funktion One, not Master Sounds. Also, I've never had to pay any duty fees or additional taxes on any imports from the UK. I purchased a Bozak from the UK just over a year ago and didn't have to pay anything extra. Things may have changed so I could be wrong. I've reached out to the US Customs dept. and I'm waiting for a response.
@@stevendhiggins No idea about Purplesound. I will say, VAT is typically applied at checkout I think, whereas if importing to the USA, customs may still have some other BS in my experience, but YMMV. Funktion One partners with Formula Sound Direct in the UK for their mixers IIRC? Look as if their website has some information about a new mixer due out in July 2019 that appears to be a 2 channel mixer? They typically design 4 or 6 channel mixers that feel a bit more FOH in design to me, but sound amazing.
I just picked up my Radius 4V from UPS. Total paid to MasterSounds was $2,220.19, total import fees were $123.70. Total paid for mixer including shipping to California and all fees = $2,343.89
2600$ for dj mixer is absolute nonsense. I do not understand why a 4-channel dj mixer costs like a lot more complicated and difficult to create professional 32channel mixing console. DJ gear is shockingly overpriced
My tax return was burning a hole in my pocket last week and I was a hair from ordering a Radius 4V but chickened out and got an open box Denon X1800 for, like, $2000 less instead.
