Hey Mojaxx, you've reviewed most of the top range mixers...except the Formula sound ones ! It's about Time to give the FF2.2 a proper testing, as it is in my opinion the best analog mixer out there with the best phono preamps. Cheers
The M1 concept is interesting, you're taking an engineer that knows how to build anything he wants (has access to loads of feedback from artists) and delivered the popular Xone series. A guy that moved from DJing static tracks into performing live on stage and the M1 is the result. I don't think these guys are making a whole lot of money from this line and its more a labor of love for them. Andy Rigby-Jones would be intimately familiar with the compromises he had to make in order to hit a specific price point for the Xone series to be sold to a broad group of people (this is how it works, they generally get an awesome product and then chop away to make it affordable). I hope the price of the M1 and M1.4 reflects the uncompromising approach that they have taken as it isn't mass produced to get those numbers down. Would be very cool if someone could take the M1 or M1.4 apart and compare the insides with a 96, DB4 or the latest Pioneer mixers. I feel like they've taken a lot of the filter/sculpting concepts from the DB4, added the send/return from the 96 and made it all analog so there is no software to support or chance the product goes out of date in the future.
A great review which helped me decide to buy the Model 1.4 - so thanks! I'm migrating from a DJM900 which I got bored with. I'm only 24hrs into the Model 1.4 and I love it - great sound and I'm sure it will enhance my performances (I'm using vinyl & CDJs). Thanks again (my bank manager is cross though!).
Hi, How has your experience been so far? I have a model 1.4 and would like to work with someone else that owns one.... Exchange ticks and tips. Managing levels is somewhat tricky ... I am used to Xone and DJMs as well. Also, effector consoles. are you using one?
This is the best option for a home professional mixer and definitely what I plan to upgrade to from my 92. I really am also hoping PionnerDJ makes a 4 channel version of their DJM V10-LF. PS What's good for Richie Hawtin should be good for anyone else. Tough to think of a DJ who demands more from his kit.
The fader issue surprises me - having so much control and then having exponential fader curves is a bit baffling, especially if they’re also being used for summing where you want to tweak levels with real accuracy. Wondering if someone will build a more linear/logarithmic fader mod (or even a rotary mod!) I think by that point you’ll have a mixer I’d be truly falling in love with
I was not aware of this version of MODEL 1. I am impressed by this one for it's a 4 channel and has everything else. It's an amazing mixer. Maybe someone.
Super good review as always! I'm upgrading my set up with a rodec mixer, but i will truly keep this model 1.4 in mind, like you said : very organic and natural feeling, that's the best i can ask for a mixer. Please do a review of the Audio technica ATXP range, "audiophile" dj cartridge ! i struggle to find decent reviews of these
How is the cue system on this compared to the 96? Can you do pre and post filters? I assume it's more flexible because everything is filter based and it's design to perform live tracks with.
I’d love Pioneer to take a page out of this book when they make the next 4 channel mixer. Keep some of the features from the V10, like booth EQ, and keep the skinnier profile of the 900.
Having the Aux as a send/return is a game changer for me. I have a Xone:92 and run a RMX-1000 out Aux1 & back through channel 4 and use the crossfader to swap across when needed, which is a pain sometimes so this would make a massive difference - but for that price? It's worth it.......but no way could I afford it.
I want 2 linked up for use with ableton for summing in the studio, and live performance. Time to sell the house. I still want an 8 channel mixer, the korg zero 8 had about everything i wanted, as you could choose if the channel was audio or midi. Too bad they are out of production, because i can´t even aftord 2 channels from this one lol
If that 'master eq' had a assign switch, boom, suddenly you have a perfect mixer. Also yeah, make them isolators. Imagine being able to asign to the track your taking out, and you basically have full control of mixing. I cannot believe how simple this would be to impliment, and they havent done it, crazy. If i designed a mixer for a & h or anyone, it would have an assignable isolator to each channel or main. Small addition. huge result. Also, i think some effects would be nice. I also think model 1 would be great for live acts. Bad for djs. No sound card is a cop out too.
Thanks again for the informed and balanced review. There is no better better out there! Seeing as this is a review on a high end mixer, I was wondering whether you had any experience playing on any Formula Sound mixers? Specifically the Formula Sound FF2.2 and the FF4.2R. There isn't a great deal of reviews out there on them and I'd be interested to see how they measure up against mixers like this and the mastersounds range.
Best question so far... we need to start comparing apples to apples... this vs formula sound vs MasterSounds V4 would be amazing. I’ve already seen somewhere a comparison of the Play 1 vs 96 and I can guarantee you 96 was better in sound quality. It’s on RUclips. But I’m very keep on formula sound ff2.2 as they are saying it’s the best phono mixer signal path period... almost no (or very poor) reviews about any formula sound out there :(
Looking for a mixer for my two SP-404 MK2's. Might get a different 3rd machine like a digitrakt or something later on. Any good ideas? Fader and audio interface to record on pc would also be dope. Thanks!
I'm thinking the same way. I'm also wondering what audio interface would be the best and not cost the same amount money as model 1. Those dsubs are great but only high end interfaces have them.
Looks nice. Great review. Come on Model Crew do a 1.8 with 8 channels. We want 4 channels from traktor plus 4 hardware boxes ....You know it makes sense
why? you just buy 2 model 1.4. they are fully linkable. and if you link a M1 with M1.4, then you have a 10 channele (4 for Traktor, 6 gear. you can also link 2 M1, for 12 channel ? . i alreadu have the M1 for 3 years and this M1.4 is probably the solution i need to get my 4 channel for Traktor, and my 6 from M1 for my harware. with the davantage to be modular if i want to go to a gig only with the M1.4 or the M1
@@thisall4real MODEL 1 incorporates a unique system that allows multiple mixers to be linked together, either for use with two or more performers, or as a way to expand the number of channels. When Linked together the mixers share a common mix buss so only one set of outputs are needed for feeding the PA and Booth monitors. In addition, the two Cue systems are joined allowing interactive cueing between multiple performers.
Great review, although it appears to be a fantastic mixer, it's just lacking some of the finer details that you can get in similar mixes. They should have incorporated a curve fader option, and, if the interface you are using does not have a Dsub connection, for Traktor users, there does not appear to be record-out RCA's to link to your interface? Might have to stick with my trusty old Xone92 :-)
I use the model 1 with 4 channels of traktor connected with a traktor audio 10 interface. I also use a maschine mk3 and use the built in audio interface on that. I went from the xone 92 to the model 1 and the difference is staggering. It makes the channels from traktor and maschine all sound like one track and the filters and sculpting eq’s are unreal to mix with. All just works perfectly.
Can I send microphone into one of the aux returns? The lack of the microphone input is not ideal for small gigs such as weddings, and I wouldn’t want to waste a whole channel on it.
I disagree when it comes to the D-subs. I use synths and drum machines all the time which all have balance +4 outs. The dsub I/O on here is a major reason I picked it up.
Great review. Thanks. I was about to buy this thing until you mentioned the part about the stereo only sends. I use guitars pedals too, and most have only mono in/out. To clarify, I won't be able to use them with this mixer?
Does anyone else have an issue with the Model 1 Master Filter not switching on/off reliably if the volume sliders are below -6? It seems to be random on each channel that if the slider isnt above -6 or -12 then it wont switch the master eq for that channel on/off or there is a delay.

Plus I can always get a CDJ/Denon if I need to play digital sources, no need for an expensive audio interface. I am so over using my laptop to dj.

Agreed with the upfader curve being ‘everything after 80%’. I have the Xone 43c and it’s the only thing that I genuinely despise about it. As a smooth blend kinda guy, it just has to go.
Hey Mojaxx, this is an excellent review. Would you consider this an upgrade for someone who already owns a xone:96 but is interested in exploring the idea of a dj mixer being more of an instrument?
Such a shame! I was watching and waiting for you to tell me there was an improvement in the fader curve but then...no....no change! Gutted. With 60mm faders they don’t need that sharp a curve towards the top. So frustrating, xones supper from this evening the 96s three options still dont provide a true linear curve. Great review as per though.
I had your recent post in my mind when I was shooting this! I’ve actually managed to adjust to the curve over the past month, it’s not as alien as it felt at first. But definitely would love to see a more logarithmic option.

It certainly is. I have the model 1 and I was mixing on it straight away when first powered it up. Very easy to mix on using the low pass and high pass filters. Then start using the parametric eq when got used to it. You really can’t make a bad mix on this, it’s almost too easy to mix on!

So i saved money and invested in DJM-V10 and I can confidently say - Thats a mixer for 10 years for me. Except the last only option would be appreciated main right down side effect base could be on both sides :)
@They Caged Non Really depends on needs. I use it mostly also for B2B.
Old school mixer reviews? Like xone 42, 22, pioneer mixers... Just an idea for future videos!
No isolater🤔
metal peanuts and a rabbits clog, wrapped in a monsters bonnet and gifted to the kings of the gong people.
Agreed with the upfader curve being ‘everything after 80%’. I have the Xone 43c and it’s the only thing that I genuinely despise about it. As a smooth blend kinda guy, it just has to go.
What did you buy to replace the Xone 43c?
hmmm DB4 is the same price as this, what makes this so special?
Hey Mojaxx, it's everyone
Hey Mojaxx, this is an excellent review. Would you consider this an upgrade for someone who already owns a xone:96 but is interested in exploring the idea of a dj mixer being more of an instrument?
Absolutely. It’s not even so much an upgrade, really, just more a different take on what a mixer can be.
sounds like someone has to much cash to blow
Such a shame! I was watching and waiting for you to tell me there was an improvement in the fader curve but then...no....no change! Gutted. With 60mm faders they don’t need that sharp a curve towards the top. So frustrating, xones supper from this evening the 96s three options still dont provide a true linear curve. Great review as per though.
I had your recent post in my mind when I was shooting this! I’ve actually managed to adjust to the curve over the past month, it’s not as alien as it felt at first. But definitely would love to see a more logarithmic option.
I think they want to be different from others
@@Mojaxx is it easy to make cuts with faders like on normal faders like on pioneer mixers?
Great review (as always)... we need to start comparing apple to apple... this vs formula sound vs MasterSounds V4 would be amazing.
I’ve already seen somewhere a comparison of the Play 1 vs 96 and I can guarantee you 96 was better in sound quality. It’s on RUclips. But I very keep on formula sound ff2.2 as they are saying it’s the best phono mixer signal path period... almost no (or very poor) reviews about any formula sound out there :(
@@HOUSEARREST1 my man... tomorrow first thing I’ll subscribe and will be listening to your mixes. I’ve ordered mine and can’t wait to receive it. I’m an analog sound addict
I love
When it's come and the Price?
This or db4 ??
this is exactly what I‘ve been waiting for.less control on the return channels, and a full fledged eq on track channels, hurrayyy
I think the return channels are exactly the same as on the Model 1. Do you mean less compared to the Xone 92/96?
@@aaronw4537 yes
Utilitarian..... genius use of a word!
For beginners, it's easier to use this mixer than the traditional EQ mixer.
Is it? Tell me more.
It certainly is. I have the model 1 and I was mixing on it straight away when first powered it up. Very easy to mix on using the low pass and high pass filters. Then start using the parametric eq when got used to it. You really can’t make a bad mix on this, it’s almost too easy to mix on!
@@rockyl9120 Yes, bro. But there is a disadvantage. When you rely on this, it is difficult to use other traditional mixers. Because the mixing mode is completely different.
@@RC75 HPF and LPF
@@909Mark yes but the Model 1 is a high end mixer for professionals. If folk are not experienced enough to go back to mixing on a normal 3 band or 4 band eq when needed, then perhaps the Model 1 is the wrong choice for them.
He can realy win against xone96?
Made by Allen and heath on the back...why not just get an allen and heath mixer for less and it has better faders
There isn’t a DJ mixer on the market with better faders, these are custom TKD’s.
Since when NOT having a soundcard is considered a feature, because there's nothing to go "out of date"?!
You just have to buy a high end audio interface for another couple of grand, simple.
@@powerboon2k You dont need. Buy esi u86 xt for 286 euros and dsub to jack kabel for 50 euros each. At the end you need 386 euros. 4 decks with traktor and send/returns with ableton.
" It's not a bug it's a feature " xD
Weirdly limited inputs.
Stay with my baby Allen heat XZ96
HOW ABOUT THE BABY BROTHER TO THE V 10 THE v5
I wish i can afford it....
Somebody please make a plastic cover for this mixer, there is nothing on the market!
Djcity UK lab but you always give prices on hardware in $ 😂
ok this is not for me
nope. ill stick with the denon
@erik charlat, which denon you'll
stick with ??? i need a dj-mixer, to mix with three sl 1210 mkII decks !
you got any ideas ?
@@abumc5104 i use the denon x1850 mixer with one sc6000 and 2 technic mk3d turntables.
@@erikcharlat9844 yesterday i bought an old pioneer djm 700. i'll be good with a beginner dj-mixer, because i'm a beginner again after so many years of mixing-absence. and to be honest, i gotta know my mixing-skills with three sl1210 mkII decks first before i buy some really x-pensive, pro and new stuff like model1, denon x1850 prime, xone:96 or the pioneer djm-v10. primarily it has to be fun, creating new versions of my club and HOUSE classixxs from the 90s, 80s and 70s. music's first in my opinion.
just one question for you. you know what kind of tool/hardware is on the market to extract the music from a song, so that you get only the vocals.
are there applications or programs that can be used to reduce a song to just the vocals ?
then i can do really nice remixes for me, myself & i and family or friends.
because nowadays music sucks a bit or it's very x-pensive on vinyl. and for me there's strictly 'vinyl' rhythm.
Can only play differently WHEN IT WORKS be warmed I had two mixers in one year and both fell apart, gutted because the sound is amazing especially on a good system.
Any dj product Allen And Heath now make falls apart.
@ fifth element, what are you talking about ? the allen & heath dj-mixers xone:92 / xone:96 ain't no good ???
that's something mixed up i think ?
everyone says, it's the gold-standard
of dj mixer, and the PIONEERS were totally overrated. pioneer is the best in marketing and distribution i'd say. in my eyes, everyone should buy the dj-mixer he wants, and then he has to shut up !!! and most of all, not everyone can afford € 2.000,00 or € 3.000,00 or € 4.000,00 dj-mixer.
WHY
the price is just stupid .
When you have xone 92, xone 96 or pioneer djm 900 nxs and V10 ,,, realize that this model 1.4 is a total failure.
Who will buy this home mixer at a price of 2200e ...
Me.
@@harryparadise615 For home use ... this will never be a club mixer.
@@jovanjovic2205 That sounds good because I live in a home, not a club.
@@jovanjovic2205 The club’s mixier is not only for you, you must consider the use of other people. When only I use it, I will definitely choose the one I like.
This mixer is geared towards the niche, and it subverts the traditional mixing method.
Pioneer for ever 👎
