    Bought the MODEL1 and loved it. Then added the 1.4 as well about 6 months later. 10 channels is perfect. Using the MODEL1 for Ableton samples via Push and hardware synths. MODEL1.4 for drums using both Ableton and a DMRM1. Both returns 1 and 2 on each mixer outs to my eurorack which is used for effects.

    Whats rly important on this mixer that it can handle even eurorack signal levels and doesnt add any perceived noise to the signal. It has high headroom and even when you clip and discord its more pleasant then on other dj mixers. Good performance control. Very good for drum machines and synths. I would rly love master input for master fx .

    Been using the Model 1 mixer for a few years now, still the best i heard and used in a long time, i also used the db4 before, ( still a beast after all this years ) the model 1 offers of course 2 channels more and u can use the Cue b as an extra though basic send and return, because there are a few more connections on the back, so also the cue b can be routed thru the dsub cables into the audio interface and into ableton, there is also an extra master out.
    the only problem i have with the mixer is the face plate and the print on there, the letters fade really quick, so if u decide to buy one, maks sure u cover the face plate to prevent wear.

    Awesome video - I caught a peek of the Otto Boum in the background… Curious where you put that in the effect/output chain. The Boum + Model 1 Drive per Channel, Filter, and EQ put in me in a hole for months re listening to gear clipped out. I haven’t used Boum on an effect send, but thought maybe Cue B might be an interesting way to use it more as an effect than on Master Outs

    • @Davemech
      @Davemech  4 месяца назад +1

      Thank you 🙏 currently I have Boum into IMC on the main out. Might seem overkill but that together with the drive on the model gives a very raw yet loud and glued mix. Boum is used in parallel mode as in, wet mixed gently with the dry signal. To me that’s where boum really shines the most. And I can make things as crunchy as I like during a live performance.
      Cheers

    Had the full sized model 1. Sounds amazing and love the filters, but wanted a real EQ, more inputs, and the cables were a bit of a pain for a synth setup. Switched to an SSL Big 6 which felt like a step backwards. Switched from that to two blue boxes for tons of inputs and flexibility in the smallest footprint and never looked back

    • @Davemech
      @Davemech  4 месяца назад +3

      Had bluebox but not my cup of tea. I need hands on controls for a mixer :). Both big six and model 1.4 are perfect for what I use them for. Big six is my main studio mixer. The connectivity to daw is unparalleled so far.

    • @boogway
      @boogway 25 дней назад

      @@eyesintheskies that's bulkier and much more expensive if you have 12 channels in your RME (unless you're running optical out into it from a cheaper unit). bluebox is much more performative and hands on than any DAW mixer, similar to an analog console. blackbox is really cool too though and outshines nearly every sampler and looper despite being 5 years old at this point

      Whatever works best for your needs & taste right 👍

    • @boogway

      @@eyesintheskies Yea I respect that. Would be cooler if the big six had adat. Tx-6 is surprisingly cool and useful even though it gets a lot of shit online

    That zero crossing detection really confused me when the model 1 first came out. Both the retailer and I thought the mixer was faulty and we returned 3 mixers before someone read the manual and explained this is how its meant to be 🤣 it also speaks to the fact the mixer is made for pro use and meant to be driven loud. Not really an issue anymore as I know how to use it but it wasnt obvious. I also really love the size of the 1.4.
    One thing I did discover is the zero crossing detection only senses on one of the channel inputs, so if you arent using the correct input it wont click off/on.

    Thanks for the nice review and use case presentation, Dave. Sort of off topic, but I would welcome some information about how you contend with latency in the Send/Return path with Push/Ableton as your effects unit (assuming Perkons is going to Ableton for the delay, for instance) during live performance versus recording your performance.

    • @Davemech
      @Davemech  2 месяца назад +1

      There's a bit of latency through ADAT but it's manageable. It's quite important to check what plugins are used inside push and how much latency they add but most Ableton stock plugins and max4live devices don't add any latency. What I did yo compensate the latency from perkons (or any external hardware) to push through the adat interface is add a track delay (or use align delay) on all tracks that are not external ins of 14ms. Makes it right as can be. For the send/return effects from model 1.4 to push and back I used audio tracks rather than using the return channels in push because that added more latency. Hope that helped 👍 cheers

The mixing experience is also very different of course which is the biggest reason I went for the 1.4 this time. Not to say zone 96 isn’t a great mixer. It’s an amazing piece of kit for sure.

    DJ Dave Mech, would you agree that this unit is at least inspired partially on the Xone DB4? Mixing with filters, also accomplishable in Xone 92 but the DB4 expands on that by filters per channel besides the 2 usual bottom rotarys. Speaking of which i would loooveee a DB4 mk2, with aux send return (1 or 2 pairs of stereo), + jack + rca outputs would make it a DJ/Live/Studio highly adaptable mixer of all trades.

    • @Davemech
      @Davemech  4 месяца назад +1

      Don’t think so. But who knows :). I think it stems more from missing synthesizers using their filters. And the parametric eq in the middle is quite usual on many mixers though they made this much more focused.
