I never thought I could draw. But after just watching the first five videos, I have a really fair amount of understanding of what it means to communicate through art. Thank you so much Alphonso. Thanks for making everything so clear and easy to follow. We love every second of it.
Alphonso, It has been 8 years since you did this vid.Today is 8/22/21,you touched a general contractor today.I am getting ready to do pool or yard rockscapes.Just letting you know, you are a key to my progress.THANK YOU.
This video was incredibly helpful, you ACTUALLY explain the concept, and how it can be done from the most basic way unlike some others who just jump in, and start shading and doing all those stuff, it almost looked more like a speed drawing rather than an ACTUALLY TUTORIAL. Good job.
I have been drawing for a while now, for my own enjoyment, not professionally. Sometimes my drawings come out very well, but other times I am very dissatisfied with them. What I mean is that I am not consistent. I couldn’t really figure out why, until I watched some of your videos on shading. I never considered the idea of using basic forms as the foundation of my drawings. After practicing for a very short while, I can honestly say that I am consistently turning out better work with less effort then I ever have before. Especially with drawing mountains. You provided me with the key that I have been searching for. I know it is a simple concept, but it is something that I have somehow failed to realize on my own. Thank you. These videos are a real godsend to someone like me. You are helping a lot of artists with your work and it is much appreciated. I wish you the best
I have watched many different drawing tutorials, and your teaching videos are by far the best that I have ever seen. You clearly are very talented as an artist, but you are also a great teacher. I like the way you break down a complex task into simple steps. Keep up the, great work! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks a lot for the tutorial! I'm trying to draw a Manga and quickly realized that rocks, trees and textures have to be drawn as frequently as faces and figures. This really helps.
Okay, I left a comment on a different video earlier explaining how I had been trying to learn to draw for over a year andthat I still wasn't "getting it"... and I felt so frustrated!. I've gone back to these more basic videos again and now after her re-watching them, I'm feeling a bit more confident. I feel like I'm getting it more. I have stuck with your tutorials and I think your work is just brilliant! I want to thank you for making these tutorials and helping me do something I've wanted to do for years, and that is learning how to draw.
Thanks Alfonso, great tutorial. I think for a newbie like myself the greatest danger with complex/organic shapes would be over working it. I guess a competent artist knows when to finish and not spoil what they have already done. Thanks once again.
Wow!! This tutorial is old, but I am very pleased with your teaching and calmness. I could Not draw a rock B4, to save my life, but your breaking the steps down into shapes and showing how to apply an understanding of light source principles REALLY HELPED...NOW, my rocks look like rocks...thank you so much Alphonso!!
I live by the sea with many rocks and love painting seascapes but have trouble with painting rocks. So glad and thankful for your clear and excellent teaching and can now start with a different approach. You are the best! Greetings again from Lamberts Bay West Coast South Africa!
Always wanted to draw with pen and ink. Love the stile. But never had any skills or technique. I work with wildlife in Brazil and keep a "naturalist journal" for many years now. Always wanted to draw in it. Saw this video and these tutorials starting from the very basic (a cube!!!) called my attention. I gave it a try and in half an hour following it step by step I was able to draw a rock I never thought I would be able to. Many, many thanks!!! Your tutorial stile is amazing!
Great video on light, shadow, basic hatching, and a more visual understanding of the contour you are drawing! Thanks for giving me more perspective on my work!
This is a blessing, I'm a landscaper learning how to draw and this tutorial is my favorite. If you have any more regarding drawing rocks and boulders I'm all for it. Thank you so much.
Wish school would have taught in such a simple way. My drawing went from a bad with random shadows to something with actual form. Needs a bit of improvement but nonetheless it's much better than before. Thanks for the tutorial.
Mr Dunn Thank you! Your commonsense approach to teaching the subject of art really clicks with me, it is clear and easily understood. I can see my skills improving rapidly as I watch your videos and practice your demonstrations. I will order your books today; I could not find it at my local B&N Store. Thank you again for passing on your knowledge and experience with your you tube followers. Cheers and Happy New Year! 2022 LL Boudreau 👍😎
I really do enjoy your instruction. I work a lot in pen & ink, and when I get stuck or just need a little reminder or something clarified in my head, your method is really clear. I like the way you draw as well. Good job, and thanks!
I've only watch one vid of you (this) and it helped me with rock, just for that, I Liked, Subscribed, and Clicked to Notification 🔔 (and click all for da bell) anyways tysm
Agreed. Define the light source and use consistent lighting. Also, don't make the blocks too small. A rock comprised of hundreds of tiny blocks doesn't looks as realistic as a rock with larger chunkier blocks in my opinion.
This is amazing!! Drawing rocks was part of a big project of a club that I was in at school, so I am practicing Mountains and Rocks so I can get more details about them. I just want to say a big Thank You! (:
Your technique of reducing complex items to basic shapes has been most helpful. Thanks you for taking the time to produce these tutorials. Awesome!
+Keith Thompson no problem at all
+Keith Thompson yessssss frrrr
That tutorial really rocks!
+Boss Godfrey I see what you did there. :)
EEEEEEEEEEEEEEYYYYY👈👈
I personally dislike you now
Ayyyyyyyy, nice pun mate.

2021 and it's still solid.
Thank you! What a great teacher. You are so calm, consistently and you simplfy things so that people can really grasp it. Fabulous. Glad I found you.
thanks so much : )
couldn't agree more!
I don't think anyone to disagree with fat :3

This is definitely one of the best drawing channels I've come across
Best drawing teacher. You take the mystique out of drawing and make it understandable. THANK YOU 🙏

Extremely marvellous way of teaching

Best tutorial so far. Straight to the point, very clear, if you follow from beginning to end it’s surprising how much you’ve progressed!

No! a rock is a block in a bad relationship. It's been broken and crushed!
