    i never thought i would be drawing some of the things i have been here lately. ever since i started watching your tutorials, ive found myself learning something new with each video i watch. if i have no inspiration or desire to draw, i can watch one of these tutorials and instantly dive back into a blank sheet of paper to give it some life. Thank you for taking all the time and dedication you put fourth towards your videos. They are greatly appreciated by me amd many others 🙏🙏

    I'm 36 West Coast USA and I recently started doing pen & ink. Your video was the first one I watched a few weeks ago. Since then I have watched them all & done 3 or 4 cool pictures of landscapes, trees and a barn. I took all my supplies to Japan and practiced while there for two weeks and I left a drawing for my wife's mother in Tokyo Japan.. I'm sharing because I really appreciate your ability to translate the simplicity of drawing and how far reaching your passion has traveled. You have helped me make a new connection between my eyes and my brain and my brain to my hand. Looking forward to your future Videos! You are the MAN! Thanks a lot Alphonso I'm going to have my son watching your videos when he is old enough! I also like how you teach about the drawing supplies which helped me.

    I've been watching your tutorials since yesterday, and you made me think about a lot of stuff. I've always drawn inside my comfort zone, and when I tried to do something different I got overwhelmed by my lack of some techniques and a lot of things that I never studied. You are helping me to learn a lot of stuff, and to feel confident that I can improve a lot, practice is really the key. Appreciate it a lot. Greetings from Argentina.

    Wow. I am almost embarrassed to admit this, as someone who isn't exactly a beginning artist (I've been a pastel painter for many years, and have even won awards in some Utah plein air competitions several years ago), but over the past few years, my actual drawing skills have gotten very rusty, and have taken the level of my paintings down with them. As we all know, without daily practice of any skill, decay sets in. Once that starts, it can easily dampen one's desire to paint.
    However, I did not discover your channel until just a few days ago! While I have been going out and sketching and painting on location recently, I felt like I was sort of spinning my wheels a bit; I didn't realize that your instruction was just what I needed and what I've been looking for until I started watching your tutorials.
    Watching the manner in which you approach drawing and rendering rocks (also in your other video) made me wonder: "how did I not know these concepts years ago???" I have lost track of the number of paintings I've abandoned or avoided because the rocks were just too complex to deal with...despite the fact they are really my favorite subject to paint. I've gotten too bogged down with the overall composition and somehow failed to see the very simple idea to break the canyon walls and rocks into simpler shapes to more easily define their multi-faceted planes.
    After watching this video in particular, I think a small explosion of enlightenment and clarity went off in my brain: what you describe as a valley gorge is also a canyon. I have tons of reference photos of canyons that are similar in scale to what you've shown in this video; they would be considered "narrows" (like what you see in Zion' NP's Virgin River Narrows). I immediately went into my reference photos, pulled up a few, grabbed my pencils and ball point pen, and started sketching. To say that I saw an instant improvement in my sketches is not an exaggeration! They are far better than the crap I was putting in the sketchbook over the past few weeks.
    I just went and purchased your book, both because I can never have enough quality reference books in my art library, and also to support your work here. A couple of years ago, I wanted to get back into pen and ink drawing (I did medical illustrations almost 30 years ago when I was in medical school, believe it or not!), so I went to my library and checked out what books they had on the subject. They didn't help me at all. I'm really looking forward to working my way through your extensive videos here on RUclips and pairing that with your book. I'm also confident that these will help me get more out of the other great reference books I have (Carlson and Edgar Payne's in particular).
    Thank you so much, Alphonso! Your videos may end up being the single most important catalyst to getting me back into my art and helping me take my game up to a new level.

    I cannot wrap my brain around how someone like you has less views than say expert village. Not that they are paticularly bad but they teach on a very surface level whereas every video you make is so in depth. I feel that I learn more from your videos than a years worth of art class could suffice. That being one of the reasons I lean more towards being self taught but I digress. I'm just sad that when you type in drawing, illustration, or inking your not the first to show up. Thank you for the amazing content : )

    Great work. When you go to a final pen/ink size do you use different techniques for your shading? Example, if you took this cool scene you built, and wanted to draw it at 11x17, it would seem that making clean shading lines might be difficult. Do you adjust your shading techniques for larger sizes?

    hi Alphonso. My name is August. I am decorative concrete artist not good at drawing, but sculpting. I have been working in the themed construction trade for 4 yrs now. I have been a concrete finisher for 20 yrs, primarily flat decorative work. Anyways Ill have to share some of the projects I have worked on, given you more information on my skill set. I now have the tools to build a house which blends into its environment. Imagine a home which looks like it was suppose to be there. I have an idea but cannot clearly express what I have in mind due to lack of practice drawing. Anyways does this sound like something you would want to be a part of?.

      Thanks so much for even considering to offer the opportunity. To be honest I doubt I would be the best person for a project like this my time is so scarce right now it would be difficult. But please keep me posted on its progress, would love to see its finished design. I love when architectural designs complement the space theyre in

      I have some very rough, not so good sketches. Would you consider drawing this up for me?

    Im working on this piece now, but i dont get the same depth as yours. Mine gets a bit rudimental and static, still good inspiration though

    I need your help with drawing baroque anthus leaf designs they're so complicated I've tried and it looked ok but it would be better if I knew the reason behind the detail

    • @alphonsodunn
      @alphonsodunn  9 лет назад

      Brentt Reinninger forget the leaf and visualize it as basic forms. If I were to do a tutorial it wouldnt be soon enough to help, but try having a look at the tutorials I did onhow to draw complex forms
