      There were lots of R&B bands around at the time some equally as good as the Stones and many better that unfortunately have been forgotten but still had a more influential effect on the British music scene.

    I wonder what songs the Stones were actually playing in this film. There's more than one song pieced together. You can see Mick playing harmonica and Brian playing slide guitar on a different than his Vox Teardrop guitar at 1:21, and they're running off the stage into a van while the song is still playing. Still a rare and nice-to-see video.

    Great footage from when they were ready for big things. I’m guessing this was in early 1965, before Satisfaction was released. Cool to see good old Ian Stewart standing by and eyeing the crowd at the 2:19 mark.

    Very cool. Brian playing I'm Alright on his prototype Vox Phantom Mk III "teardrop" and slide guitar on his Gibson Reverse Firebird VII. Looks like he was playing Little Red Rooster. Keith switching between his Gibson Les Paul and his Epiphone Casino. This would have been an awesome concert to have listened to in its entirety just to hear the difference in sounds of the four guitars. What a strange venue for a concert. From what I've read they also played It's All Over Now, Time Is On My Side and the Last Time at this show.

      @Ovalvox Ha ha! Thanks for noticing! For the record, during the stretch of concerts around '65 where the Stones incorporated "I'm Alright" (based mostly on Bo Diddley's Beach Party version, despite the Stone's crediting themselves with their Nanker Phelge pseudonym, lol!), I believe the opening riff was played by Keith Richards on his sunburst Les Paul Standard, while the rhythm chordings were played by Brian Jones on his Teardrop Vox Phantom, with amp tremolo. Bill Wyman's cool signature high-held bass guitar neck stance, he says he adopted because he was too small otherwise to comfortably reach a bass neck's longer scale! The Stones' version of "I'm Alright" on their "Out Of Our Heads" album is killer!

      @@supafrogg258 Brian always rocked on this one. His rhythm guitar stands out and makes the whole song. He does those runs throughout the song. He out Bo’s Bo on guitar on this one. I still don’t understand how the band got away with a songwriting credit.

    • @supafrogg258
      @supafrogg258 2 года назад

      @@ovalvox7888Thank you! You are SO right about Brian's rhythm guitar! He is spot on with enhancing the song! Y' know the whole thing with grabbing song writing credit, is that everyone was doing it. And even record labels were complicit with playing along with the game. That doesn't make it right. There is history upon history of artists claiming credit for someone else's song, by making just enough alterations, and of labels coaching an artist of theirs how to do it. Bo Diddley himself had done it. At the Monterey Pop Festival, a notable case, is Otis Redding performing Satisfaction by Jagger/Richard & claiming on stage to the audience that he wrote it. Mick Jagger who wrote the lyrics to Satisfaction, and who idolized Redding, was flabbergasted that Redding had claimed that.

    • @ovalvox7888
      @ovalvox7888 2 года назад

      @@supafrogg258 Serves Mick right. Lol. Did he and Keith give Brian any credit for his guitar part in The Last Time for a song Keith took from the Staples singers. The part that makes the whole song the hit it was? Or Ruby Tuesday which Mick got credit for having nothing to do with the writing of the song the Jones and Richards wrote. It’s a two way street. Little by Little is Shame Shame Shame by Jimmy Reed.

    • @supafrogg258
      @supafrogg258 2 года назад +1

      @@ovalvox7888 Good stuff, for all your Stones research! With that Otis Redding / Jagger thing, what goes around, comes around! Yeah, Brian did play that cool tremolo riff on The Last Time. One of my favorite Keith & Brian guitar parts weaving is the intro to Mercy, Mercy, where you 1st hear mainly Keith, and end up hearing Brian's badass riff. Brian was so talented, but per Keith's "LIFE" biography, Brian was so underhanded, it was easy for others not to back him.

    It's my guess this was probably filmed with a Bolex spring powered 16mm camera. Those cameras would run for 26 seconds and then stop. Then have to be wound up again to resume filming for another 26 seconds. The 100 feet of film might capture 2 1/2 minutes of stop & go.

    Rather subdued. In San Francisco there were a bunch of cops & security guards to pass the hysterical and comatose to safety. Also to block the crazies charging the stage. Wild, but great -they never had the same wallop after Altamont. I think that's when they realized that there were some real crazies out there.
