Well, if you're old, I am too. And you had more clue than me, if you saw this live. I've loved Keith's playing since I heard the "Satisfaction" riff. Been learning his stuff for 45 years now. Love his interpretations and rip-offs of Chuck Berry. Keith did more to send our dollars to Chuck, than to harm him.
I am 65 years young. Been listening to the Greatest Rock n Roll band The Rolling Stones since from about 14 years old. I saw them at Shea Stadium for my 30th birthday in approximately 1988. The stadium was bouncing and rocking so hard i thought it was gonna crumble to the ground!! You didnt need to smoke any weed to get high that night, just breathe!! It is amazing they are still together, much less still performing!! And Kieth has certainly beaten the odds!! Go Stones, keep up the awesome rockin!! Love ya!!

Yes, they did. Sullivan didn't allow fakery. Remember, it was a live telecast in the eastern and central time zones. Absolutely nerve wracking if you were a performer.
The show Bonanza began the restaurant Bonanza. I worked there in high school in the 70's . For our small town with very few decent restaurants, the business boomed. The menu had great steaks and catfish on Friday. Decent desserts, but there was no tipping. Pretty disgusting.
Ed Sullivan almost singlehandedly introduced Rock music to the US Television audiences, AND he even allowed them to play 'live' on TV. It is great to hear the drum in the mix with compliments of Charlie Watts' humble smile
@Joan In Florida Ed Sullivan and his show were so important because that was all we had in those days. Back then, we only had three TV networks, and his show was the only place to be on Sunday nights, and what he offered was so unique. He wanted something of interest for all audiences. Rock 'n' roll acts, still controversial, were not included on other shows at the time. Ed included them. And Ed's insistence that individual artists or groups play their music live gave a freshness and immediacy to their performance. They couldn't fall back into the comfort of lip-synching their way out. They had to perform, live, what got them on that stage in the first place. And if you really enjoyed a performance by someone like the Rolling Stones, you only got to see it...once. No one had home taping devices in those days. If you wanted to see that same performance by the Rolling Stones a second time, your best hope was seeing it in a summer rerun. His show really was a Sunday night institution. You're right. A person today can't really appreciate it unless they were around back then.

Turn the bass up and listen to his runs. The man traveled the length of the neck, up and down, and back up again. When he joined the Stones, he was 27. Five years older than the others. He was hired because he brought his own amps.
I always noticed that too and I assumed that he must have started out playing an acoustic, upright double bass. That is until I learned that when Keith wanted a double bass in Ruby Tuesday Bill was unable to play it by himself.

Their Song writing had grown in leaps and bounds and the live shows in 71 and 72 were the tightest and most energetic shows they ever Played . Mick Taylor is one of the best Guitar Players that ever existed.
Ed Sullivan's TV show had as much of an impact on the English Music Invasion of the mid-60s as did anyone or anything. The radio made their music popular, Ed made them SUPER STARS! His was a REALLY...BIG...SHOW!

My mam saw them live in 64 n 65, she passed xmas just gone, she had all the early stuff on the decca label n my16 yr old son now has these treasures, 3 generations been touched by the stones x

You know what's absolutely unbelievable? That this performance is almost SIXTY YEARS AGO! And Mick and Keith are still performing this year! The Rolling Stones are truly the greatest rock band ever. This video is a nice reminder that the rolling Stones were originally a blues-oriented band under Brian Jones's leadership.

I saw the Stones later in the year 12/3/65 I was 10, mom took me, it was unheard of back then to take young children back in the day…….they had two performances a night, but not lasting over hour and half.

True, they are light and play the blues very well. Brian is cool and played the slide guitar very well, as well as switching guitars on the second song. That was the sound Brian wanted in the Stones.
This is Gold! God, they were young and at the beginning of a crazy ride into fame. The Last Time was the first original hit that they had and it’s still a great song. Very catchy riff!
I’m 65 now and go see the stones every time they play thinking it’s going to be there last time around but they just keep going every year unbelievable
The Beauty of this is how awesomely RAW it is, ....yes it's 1965, so there's really no technical "polish" put on the audio, it's LIVE television, this is "strap it on, and go for broke" also for some FYI , this is their return performance after Ed Sullivan had vowed he'd never have them back again after their October 1964 show performance, some due to their "appearance/grooming" and also how crazy the audience reacted, parents wrote to CBS and complained .....but , Ed Sullivan, also was smart enough to recognize these guys were the "real deal" , just as important to showcase as the squeaky clean Beatles, DC5, etc. By the next time they returned (in color also) in '66 they were kings, ....Beatles, Rolling Stones, DC5, The Animals ....Kinks, what great time to be a teen!!!
My favourite times are back in the 1960s ! I loved all the songs from the early days . Flowers , Englands Newest Hitmakers, Hot Rocks ! All of them , Decembers Children is a special album in my heart ❤️! There’s so many early albums out there. I need to recollect all of them again. 😊❤🎸

I remember being little sitting in my pajamas on the floor sitting indian style watching this. I was bobbing my head to the music. My dad said settle down and sit still. And behind me sits my mom ina chair doing the same thing I was. Funny nothing was said to her about her rockin n rollin, ha--ha!!
my first concert, nov 1st, 1964, climbed through a window at the 3000 seat long beach municipal auditorium to see these guys, i had just turned 16. what a memory.
no other country in the planet comes close to Britain when it comes to the greatest bands ever . the stones.the Beatles . the who at the top the tree . and many many more .
If it weren’t for Britain, the oldies stations would be playing Pat Boone and The Singing Nun now. USA rock fans were willing to let rock & roll fade, regarding it as only a fad. There’s the off-chance that maybe the Pacific Northwest scene (The Kingsmen, The Sonics etc) would have exploded and filled that vacuum similarly, but I doubt there was sufficient critical mass for that to happen. The Brits not only saved R & R from oblivion, they reinvented it while preserving rock’s rawness and coolness. I’m saying this, and I live in Texas, with no personal connections with the UK.

Love the way he turns up the volume for the guitar solo on The Last Time. I think I read somewhere that Keith was the very first person to popularize the Sunburst Les Paul guitar.
Thank you for this great video! At 69 years of age I vividly recall the British Invasion of the 1960s. Groups like the Animals, Kinks, Dave Clark Five, etc. really blew us all away. And than you had the Rolling Stones who were in a class all by themselves. If your parents frowned upon the Beatles, they for sure hated the Rolling Stones! But like so many of my peers, I loved them, and still do...! What a great time for music!
@happychildhood Man those were some magical times, right? Those couple of years of British Invasion bands, as you mentioned, and then --> BLAMMO! Music shifted into a whole new gear of sophistication with Hendrix, The Airplane, The Dead, Cream and so on into the 70’s.
I was honored to see them, at the free Altimont CA concert. The Hells Angeles almost ruined the whole concert. I saw it all. I was very close to the front of the stage. The Stones made the best out of a bad situation. Dave

Mick Jagger has a very distinctive voice that was made for Rock 'N Roll. He is a real natural for this genre. The most amazing thing is that he has so many different voices for different songs. He was the difference-maker for the Rolling Stones became one of, if not THE greatest band ever.
Just saw him at SO FI 3 days ago. 81 years old and and put on a show for over two hours a sang and danced like a 20 year old. I was totally amazed by his outstanding performance.

The show Bonanza began the restaurant Bonanza. I worked there in high school in the 70's . For our small town with very few decent restaurants, the business boomed. The menu had great steaks and catfish on Friday. Decent desserts, but there was no tipping. Pretty disgusting.

Ed Sullivan almost singlehandedly introduced Rock music to the US Television audiences, AND he even allowed them to play 'live' on TV. It is great to hear the drum in the mix with compliments of Charlie Watts' humble smile

@Joan In Florida Ed Sullivan and his show were so important because that was all we had in those days. Back then, we only had three TV networks, and his show was the only place to be on Sunday nights, and what he offered was so unique. He wanted something of interest for all audiences. Rock 'n' roll acts, still controversial, were not included on other shows at the time. Ed included them.
And Ed's insistence that individual artists or groups play their music live gave a freshness and immediacy to their performance. They couldn't fall back into the comfort of lip-synching their way out. They had to perform, live, what got them on that stage in the first place.
And if you really enjoyed a performance by someone like the Rolling Stones, you only got to see it...once. No one had home taping devices in those days. If you wanted to see that same performance by the Rolling Stones a second time, your best hope was seeing it in a summer rerun.
His show really was a Sunday night institution. You're right. A person today can't really appreciate it unless they were around back then.

Turn the bass up and listen to his runs. The man traveled the length of the neck, up and down, and back up again. When he joined the Stones, he was 27. Five years older than the others. He was hired because he brought his own amps.
I always noticed that too and I assumed that he must have started out playing an acoustic, upright double bass.
That is until I learned that when Keith wanted a double bass in Ruby Tuesday Bill was unable to play it by himself.
The audience can relate to Bill. Even though he's performing, he's also observing the performance. (by taking it all in)

You know what's absolutely unbelievable? That this performance is almost SIXTY YEARS AGO! And Mick and Keith are still performing this year! The Rolling Stones are truly the greatest rock band ever. This video is a nice reminder that the rolling Stones were originally a blues-oriented band under Brian Jones's leadership.

When I was in school, half of our class were Beatles fanatics and the other half were Rolling Stones fanatics. Because of this, we fought constantly.
The Cool kids liked the Stone's, the rest liked the Beatles.

Then the Vietnam war, to stop communism. We didn't see much hope so WE became anti war, left wing socialist's. And went to Rolling Stones Concerts, the Beatles quit Turing.

I saw the Stones later in the year 12/3/65 I was 10, mom took me, it was unheard of back then to take young children back in the day…….they had two performances a night, but not lasting over hour and half.
Did she take you because you wanted to see them or did she take you because she wanted to see them and had no one to 'sit' with you while she was at the concert ? OR, were you BOTH Stones fans, so .... ?
@@flynnlizzy5469 since I was 10, mom made those decisions, she loved rocknroll , and took me to see 11 rock concerts, between 1965-67 ….( back then tickets were cheap, The Rolling Stones cheapest ticket was $2.75)…..long story, mom divorced from dad & living in different town 3 hours away, also she was diagnosed as a paranoid schizophrenic, dad didn’t realize that at the time until later, so if my dad knew this, I don’t think he would have let her take me……but no one around to stop her, looking back, I’ll never forget those concerts she took me too, and I still love 60s, rock…I can proudly say I saw all these groups at a young age…here’s who i saw: The Beau Brummels, Herman’s Hermits, Dave Clark Five, The Animals, Lovin Spoonful, Gary Lewis & the Playboys, Petula Clark, The Supremes, Mojo Men( they only had the one hit) Sonny & Cher , Them, & Rolling Stones…..

True, they are light and play the blues very well. Brian is cool and played the slide guitar very well, as well as switching guitars on the second song. That was the sound Brian wanted in the Stones.

I watched this live. I think now how cool it was that Ed had the rolling stones play the show off while the credits ran.
The Beauty of this is how awesomely RAW it is, ....yes it's 1965, so there's really no technical "polish" put on the audio, it's LIVE television, this is "strap it on, and go for broke" also for some FYI , this is their return performance after Ed Sullivan had vowed he'd never have them back again after their October 1964 show performance, some due to their "appearance/grooming" and also how crazy the audience reacted, parents wrote to CBS and complained .....but , Ed Sullivan, also was smart enough to recognize these guys were the "real deal" , just as important to showcase as the squeaky clean Beatles, DC5, etc. By the next time they returned (in color also) in '66 they were kings, ....Beatles, Rolling Stones, DC5, The Animals ....Kinks, what great time to be a teen!!!

I'm 75, and I saw them in St Louis MO in1972. The Kiel Auditorium just reeked of pot, and we all got a contact high. Wow. But what a show!!
My favourite times are back in the 1960s ! I loved all the songs from the early days . Flowers , Englands Newest Hitmakers, Hot Rocks ! All of them , Decembers Children is a special album in my heart ❤️! There’s so many early albums out there. I need to recollect all of them again. 😊❤🎸

If it weren’t for Britain, the oldies stations would be playing Pat Boone and The Singing Nun now. USA rock fans were willing to let rock & roll fade, regarding it as only a fad. There’s the off-chance that maybe the Pacific Northwest scene (The Kingsmen, The Sonics etc) would have exploded and filled that vacuum similarly, but I doubt there was sufficient critical mass for that to happen. The Brits not only saved R & R from oblivion, they reinvented it while preserving rock’s rawness and coolness. I’m saying this, and I live in Texas, with no personal connections with the UK.
Watched this and the Beatles on the original broadcasts. As an aspiring young guitarist it made quite the impression. Keith's Burst!!! OMG, it looks brand new. The nickel pup covers are still shinny! Lol. Thanks for posting.
Love the way he turns up the volume for the guitar solo on The Last Time. I think I read somewhere that Keith was the very first person to popularize the Sunburst Les Paul guitar.
Thank you for this great video! At 69 years of age I vividly recall the British Invasion of the 1960s. Groups like the Animals, Kinks, Dave Clark Five, etc. really blew us all away. And than you had the Rolling Stones who were in a class all by themselves. If your parents frowned upon the Beatles, they for sure hated the Rolling Stones! But like so many of my peers, I loved them, and still do...! What a great time for music!

I was honored to see them, at the free Altimont CA concert. The Hells Angeles almost ruined the whole concert. I saw it all. I was very close to the front of the stage. The Stones made the best out of a bad situation. Dave

Mick Jagger has a very distinctive voice that was made for Rock 'N Roll. He is a real natural for this genre. The most amazing thing is that he has so many different voices for different songs. He was the difference-maker for the Rolling Stones became one of, if not THE greatest band ever.
