This video was VERY well done! I mean, you answered questions that I keep asking people but kept getting vague answers. Thanks for taking the time to shoot and upload this!
At 3:37 you told me the answer I came here to RUclips for, thanks! The sad part is that I threw my torch in the garbage because I thought the nozzle had failed permanently, all I had to do was wait 5 mins eh? Unbelievable how a nozzle with no electronics shuts off and refuses to open when you have spent more than 20 seconds trying to ignite the torch but the wind won't let you.
I like the stubby dark green propane tanks. The torch is less likely to tip over. I think they're designed for camping, but they work very well for torches. 🐀🐾
Excellent well made video, many thanks … and why can’t we get them in the U.K. under £200 What’s the reason for the hole in the handle, is it an over pressure safety reason? There’s a lot of warnings as people have got badly burnt
MAPP He's actually no longer produced. It's the same exact fuel as a propane blue cylinder the company that bought out the producer of mapp cylinder field fuel sources simply kept the name so as to not lose any existing customers, but has been feeling the same yellow cylinders that were originally a map fuel with propane. Propane is just one fractional distillation process away from butane any of the propane torch in this ad in this video can you utilize butane in the same manner as they would propane I've used both back for whichever I have in hand with no difference other than a couple hundred degrees, Fahrenheit or so
Does MAP-PRO without oxygen reach high enough temperatures to melt small quantities of sand mixed with the other ingredients of glass? As I've purchased a Peri (a well established New Zealand company ) Super-Map torch kit and want to do some experiments over summer in a mini-crucible made from alumina-silica refractory bricks after I've repaired the wheelbarrow.
Considering the melting point of sand is approximately 1700°C (3090°F), MAP-Pro fuel has an in-air flame temperature of 3,730°F which means that theoretically, it should be enough heat for you to melt the sand without the oxygen cylinder. Thanks for watching! More info here > greggdistributors.ca/search?q=I64&page_size=8&view=list&terms=CatPage:I64
Is the yellow bottle also suitable for heating up and unscrewing rusty nuts and bolts? Because I just bought a yellow one, not a blue one, and now I've watched your video. Are they no good or should I just heat them for a shorter time? Thank You :)
Thanks for the video. Since Aluminum metal melts at 660 degrees C (1220 degrees F) and a propane flame heats to 1898 deg C., can you melt aluminum directly with propane (or MAP-pro) without an aluminum brazing rod?
Two questions: the first, I'm primarily wanting to solder pieces of 9 gauge copper wire together for sculpture, what would you recommend? Secondary, do these torches have any safety features that stop the bottles blowing up if something goes wrong? Thanks
We would recommend using the TS3500 or the TS4000 as Bernzomatic lists Woodworking as an application for these models. While the Pencil torch is intended for metals and has to be lit with a sparker. This depends on the metallurgy of the bronze you are working with. Typically bronze has a melting point of around 913 degrees Celsius. That said, the butane in your micro torch can burn up to 1,760 degrees Celsius, but a micro torch with a small flame will have a tough time getting to the required temperature with external environmental factors impacting the flame. Your best bet to get the required temperature would be to invest in a larger torch kit such as this one: greggdistributors.ca/Welding/torches-and-accessories/new-welding-torch-kits/ultuf4921
I have a question.. I am intending to convert some old large bird cages into cat cages. The cages are made of wire small guage..and l presume that they were originally spot welded.. If l can convert them into cat cages, then simply braze the items together. Q, which torch would be most suitable..it's not heavy material in any sense. I would use MAPP gas Many thanks 😊
In order to be effective, the brazing torch kit does require the red oxygen cylinder combined with other fuels to produce that high intensity flame that's required for the job. If you use a TS8000 torch head in a propane torch, will you get more heat than using a standard TS3500 that comes with a propane torch?
The TS8000 does achieve higher heat output due to the swirl flame design, so yes, if you use this torch head you will get more heat output.

I always thought they were an aromatic solvents company or something
