460,000 Venezuelans will not just get work permits. TPS means they will qualify for welfare benefits, too, like Medicaid, food stamps, and housing vouchers.

They won’t be eligible for benefits until they get a permanent residence card or become a citizen of the United States. Of course, there are local benefit programs, especially in sanctuary cities where legal residency isn’t required.

I dont live in NYC but I work directly with nyc social workers over the phone as an interpreter, and it’s crazy how every single day I get multiple calls for Venezuelans in shelters some of them not asking but demanding benefits and housing, I really think it’s crazy and sad for us citizens
If course they are demanding it we tell them to all of the politics of this hasn’t changed reality and people need to see what’s happening, I can’t afford grocery’s things are bad here financially on all of us working families, we don’t have savings anymore, the housing crisis is not even close to its peak for everyone already a New Yorker, this is going to really be bad, to me it’s simple math.

That woman has a lot of nerve saying they should waive the filing fee for the work permits.Lady, USCIS operates and is funded by the fees paid by immigrants.So, if they waive the fees for half a million people, that would leave a big hole in their budget.Second, USCIS is super slow, understaffed.Even if they apply now, they will not get those permits before 6 months at least.I know because it took 8 months for mine.It is a slap in the face to see the preferential treatment they give to these people.I had to pay the fees and wait for months. so why cant they do the same ?

There are still approximately 25 million people left behind in Venezuela that will gradually make their way toward the Southern border due to word of mouth, in addition to over 600 Million from surrounding countries, that will be encouraged to come and finally end up in New York, Chicago, and other cities around the US. There are also thousands of unwanted pregnancies developing as we speak, by among the ones already here, and pregnant women, prior to their arrival, for the objective of obtaining free food, medical care, and financial assistance among other governmental benefits. And with Now allowing them work, will not give any relief to the already existing financial burden on the U.S government, you ask WHY? because, once they earn any little money, they will not want to spend it for personal expenses, nor shelter, as they will just continue to blend in with the other asylum seekers to continue receiving all benefits, they've been receiving from the start. Remember they have already been spoiled with free handouts that are so easily given to them! Why pay for food and shelter now? all they will do is pocket the money, and send it back home to trigger more to come.

I'm not for reparations but it does make it hard to argue when you have all this money for warfare and helping migrants but you can't pay them or any of the other groups they have needs. When you do precious little for the poor, or our vets or our disabled or those in our foster care system and yes foundational black Americans particularly if they also fall in to one of those other categories. Rather than making money available for migrants, if we are going to spend make it available to states as a block grant and let them decide whether they want to write a check to black Americans veteran services, extra pay for the disabled, or if they choose migrants so that we can picket if they choose migrants over AMERICANS. I'm disabled and I don't support a big federal government but I would rather give money to any American over a non American even for ideas where I disagree. I'd even choose paying off student loan debt over this.

Many of us in New York are struggling to make ends meet, and it's crucial that our tax dollars are used wisely. I hope our leaders, will take our concerns into account and work towards a more financially responsible approach. I can't wait to see New York RED in 2024!
