  • Aug.20 - Venezuela is in default; the country has suffered one of the greatest economic and humanitarian crises in modern history. Now, after four years of crippling U.S. sanctions, President Nicolas Maduro is making a public plea aimed directly at President Joe Biden- it's time for a deal. Bloomberg's Erik Schatzker travels inside Venezuela and sits down with Maduro to discuss the country's future.

    If Venezuela has oil reserves to rival the US and the mid East oil cartels makes sense they wouldn’t want Venezuelan oil on the market especially now when it’s approaching 90 a barrel. I think the west and it’s allies are definitely interfering in Venezuela no doubt about it. But the amount of incompetence in the Maduro is mind boggling. The only way Venezuela could ever recover is to be able to extract and sell its resources period.

    • @shanetonkin2850
      @shanetonkin2850 Год назад +6

      Errr no.. ‘the west’ wants LOW oil prices, not high.
      Since practically all forms of economic activity are dependent on oil, one way or another (just everything needs to be transported for example) , higher oil prices = higher cost, which is bad for business, and this hurts western countries. Just look at how Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has sent oil and natural gas prices soaring, which has then sent inflation through the roof in most parts of the world and starting to cause minor financial hardship to many as the cost of everyday items is increases while their wages are not.
      The west does not make money from extracting oil, it is a net consumer of oil, by far.
      The only countries that want high oil prices are those oil producing nations with undeveloped economies, where oil extraction makes up most of their income, such as Venezuela, Iraq, Iran, Russia, Nigeria, Angola

      No, that's actually the main problem. The venezuelan economy is in shambles 'cause they depend entirely on their oil exports. Having a huge ammount of unproductive spending, an even bigger corrupt state and even worse, the highly skilled and the people with money have already left and made their life elsewhere, if they started rebuilding their state today, it'd probably take 50yrs or 2 gen to actually get somewhere.

It would really, really hurt, but hopefully (yeah, I'm a dreamer), the US would reign in government spending to compensate. In the end, if you live beyond your means, you will ruin yourself. Just as it is hard to imagine Venezuelan could take "hopelessness" to such great heights.
