    This video took me from 60 to 0 in a mere 9 minutes and 49 seconds.
    I started out with the attitude of "What a great idea to test and post results of the Big Three 3/4 ton diesel pickups on youtube!" And then, to my complete disbelief, at the end of the video the host announces that the video camera fell off the vehicle, the test team was running out of time and had to head for the airport, and a final comment to the effect--"Hey, viewers, sometimes these things happen and we can't tell you which truck won"--and asks us to tune in again. Tune in again? Are you CRAZY? You waste my time by putting up a video that tells me next to nothing and you think I'm going to tune in again?
    And I also agree with the other comments here about gearing. As a mechanic friend was said, "You can gear a refrigerator motor to pull a freight train, but it won't pull it fast."
    I think I'm done with The Fast Lane...

    Wow, I am shocked of the fact that the Government Motor team felt the need to come out and rig up its own Ike Gauntlet run with all these excuses of not able to get the right rear ratio on the Ford and Ram, thinking that they can cheat the test to show off the brand new redesigned 2015 Silverado HD.
    However, the sad fact is, the new 2015 only gets a face lift, and that is it, nothing more! The new 2015 Superduty will get a more powerful engine and an upgraded transmission. On the other hand, the GM team knows better to abuse the fact that the RAM gets its best engine + transmission in the 3500 and up, not in the 2500, like the Silverado or the Superduty.
    Also, notice how GM use a small in size tie down trailer, instead of a big bulky one because they didn't want the Superduty to show off its built in trailer sway control.
    Cheap move!
    Want to see some fun test between the big 3, search on youtube "Top Gear - The King of Trucks " and "Pickup Truck Drag Race - Top Gear USA".

      First GM, ford, and maybe ram all do a test like these with a hill and they tow up and down. Second I agree with the ratios on the gears but every company does this which is why FLT need to get the trucks and test them

    I just traded in my 2010 Dodge 2500 crew cab 4x4 diesel for a new 2015 Duramax. I never thought I'd say this, but the Chevrolet diesel trucks are twice the truck that the Dodge is. The Duramax pulls evenly through every gear. It feels like there's much more usable power, it's amazing. the Dodge is not even in the same league in regards to ride comfort. It's not just the ride but the seats in the Chevy are a lot more comfortable. The Duramax, 2500 4x4, crew cab, is a much more refined truck than the Dodge. I've got app. 2500 miles on the Chevy and I'm averaging an honest 20.9 mpg over the last 400 miles driven. And my best mpg over the last 50 miles is 24.8 mpg. Combination of city and highway. The Dodge would average between 13 - 17 depending on how fast I drove and wind direction. Pulling my 6,000lb boat (@ 75mph) it averaged 17.4 mpg the Dodge maybe 12 mpg. This is an honest opinion meant to help the guy contemplating which diesel to buy. I'm not a Chevy diehard kind of guy.... But the new Duramax is just plane awesome! It's more comfortable and gets as good or better mpg than the Wife's new Cadillac !

      I"m a GM guy but its true..........this review is crap. As it is, they note that Chevrolet provided the Dodge and Ford which should make this review dubious. According to Fast Lane, this was as close as to what Chevrolet could provide them even though the gear ratios differ, and the fact that Dodge offers different HP and Torq outputs. Plus they got GM engineers riding with the Fast Lane host. if anything it is a Chevy commercial

    Why does everyone have to talk shit about which truck is better? All three are very nice trucks.. I honestly love the newer looks of the Ram but dislike the 8 speed the gassers have. Plus I just remember the issues Dodge had with the Ram, but I have heard nothing but good things about the newer Ram Trucks. I test drove a Silverado and it was, as you guessed, also a great truck. It was just a little more expensive than the other two I tested, but it was a very nice and quiet ride. I bought my F150 mostly because I have always had Fords and I have never had anything other than regular maintenance done on them. I know they can have electrical problems, but every maker has their own issues or drawbacks. I'm not saying it is the best overall truck, but it is what made me happy. That's what you should be buying a truck for as well, not just because whichever one has more fanboys...

    Wisconsin Wildman- I have many hundreds of thousands of miles behind the wheel of a Duramax powered pickup pulling some pretty heavy loads. My buddy has a 2003 GMC with 1.4 million miles (still the original engine and tranny), he uses his truck in trucking as well. So if you are going to make some ridiculous statement about broken tie rods you at highway speeds you better bring some proof. I have only heard of this happening when sled pulling. Also, I will advise you that tie rods sleeves are cheap and easy to install. Personally I believe you are a troll.

    very pointless video. chevy gave you vehicles that where "close to the same" towing capacity. but any person who tows for a living understands that having the largest gear set is always better for towing. here is the great part. chevy 3.73 axle ratio, ford had a 3.53 and dodge had a 3.42. chevy says this chevy says that. i know for a fact that both ford and dodge made their 250/2500 series trucks with 3.73 rear ends. common rule of these videos you want to make your truck look the best give yourself and advantage while providing the trucks

    This is even worse to watch a company failing even by setting up their own rules to win. Even worse and insulting is them thinking the viewers are super stupid and nobody will notice anything.
    I just don't understand why they just don't spend the time, energy and money trying to make their trucks the best instead of making the other ones like losers?
    There are way more deciding factors in choosing a truck than how it holds the speed going downhill.

    I've been a Chevy guy for most of my life. I've owned numerous Fords. I've owned numerous Chrysler products. I've had good and bad in all. I had a 6.7 Ford SD for a company truck for nine months before leaving the company. I was very impressed and loved the truck. I've driven the Duramax which was also nice. Never drove the Dodge. All in all I'd take any of the three. Preference given to Ford. That's coming from a Chevy guy. I love my 1500 Silverado and it's been a good truck. I'm not going to argue over truck brands because to each their own.

  • @Stevenewable
    @Stevenewable 10 лет назад +2

    The 3.73 axle ratio is a huge advantage for the chevy. And that is why they chose 55 mph. The exhaust brake works much better at higher engine rpm.
    3.73/3.42 * 55 = 60 mph. So the ram will obviously want to creep up to 60 mph for the same braking power. But remember also, the GM & Ford have V8 diesels and more moving parts resulting in more friction. I bought the Ram 2013 2500 because of the manual transmission. I just downshift if I need more exhaust brake. Using the exhaust brake with a manual tranny you see huge differences in engine/exhaust braking as you go to a lower gear. I wouldn't buy any of those automatics. Worst decision Ford ever made was getting rid of their manual truck. Love my cummins, though. Its built to go a million miles.

      Ram only offers the 3.42 axle on single-rear wheel Cummins pickups for both 2500 and 3500. You have to get the dually to get the 3.73 or 4.10. Personally, I think 3.42 is fine for a massively torquey diesel like a Cummins, unless you're pulling ginormous loads all the time. In which case you would want a dually.

    • @SamSheepDoq
      @SamSheepDoq 10 лет назад

      Ford Racing They're ordered to match, and Ford and Ram would probably be at fault since they don't offer 3.73 with their 3/4 ton diesels.

    When it boils down to it, and many many tests have proven this, the ram struggles with grade's, yes it gets the job done, yes cummins goes for a long period of time, Gm's duramax engine works amazing with the allison transmission behind it, ford powerstoke is an amazing design and the torqueshift transmission works great.
    Myself im a huge diesel guy, i work in a GM dealership i went to school with guys who work in Ford and ram dealership i can honestly say they all break down from time to time, the new 6.7 for ford is doing quite well compared to the 6.0l and 6.4.
    the new 6.7 Cummins does good but i have heard of issues with the engine.
    duramax is doing amazing when it comes to depability it does have issues from time to time mainly i am seeing Emissions related like the other 2 are seeing.
    i like all the engines and trucks but i perfer Duramax and PSD's.

By experience I blew 3 Duramax engine with under 80,000 miles, Powerstroke gave me a few problems but at least it gave 280,000 miles (more or less), and my Cummins is right around 315,000 now, yes stuff gone also, but it hasn't cost me to much money, nor downtime. How can you do a test on these pickups if you have no clue what rated engine is in the truck. If these dumb shits had a clue they would kknow that the 2500 come with the 800ftlb if you have the auto. the 850ftlb is not a option for the 2500 Dodge. Along with that the 850ftlb is tied to the Aisin Auto where the 800ftlb is tied to the 68rfe. Not to mention the 2014 Dodge 3500 with the 850ftlb walked all over the Ford and GM pickups. That same 3500 Dodge walked all over the Ford F450 as well in every aspect.

    Ok listen all you Ford loving people. FORD IS NOT GOOD, im a mechanic for 20 years and I can say, with out a shadow of a doubt, that Ford is hands down the worst build vehicles on the road. I would never buy one, nor would i let my family or friends buy a Ford. Our shop works on 75% Fords. And the thing that pisses me off about ford is they use the cheapest parts. Even there brake lines are just steel with no protective coating or lining. Of all things on a car that you wish they didn't go cheap on is your brakes. But no, all day we have fords coming in with blown brake lines. Dodge and GM coats them in plastic, and most Japanese nd europeans car are stainless. GM Engines are built proof, Dodge chassis are tougher then nails, and Ford is just an over weight pile of shit. Oh, by the why, good luck removing your spark plugs on the 5.4L Trition. LOL Fords fan make me laugh at how ignorant they are, and stop with the nonsense that C channel is better. Yes flex is good but not that much, truck with feel like a wet noddle going down the road. Enjoy your butt hurtting Ford!!!

      Gee Tony thanks for your great input! Sorry but you sound like an idiot to me plain and simple. First off if Ford is keeping you in business as you claim, well gee I'd be happy bout that! I would think that a smart finely educated man such as yourself would be able to spell at least? Here's the facts junior.....FORD is #1....has been for many years and it will continue to be for many years to come! They are #1 for a reason! Now when you wanna talk pieces of shit? Dodge comes to mind.......they sell their trucks for thousands less than their competitors and why? Because they're crap that's why! GM and Chrysler had to be bailed out financially by the US government, and Ford didn't! They didn't need YOUR hard earned $$$ Tony to stay afloat!

    • @NOLAItsNotOva
      @NOLAItsNotOva 10 лет назад

      Shane Elliott Please explain how Ford is #1. What attributes to they have to warrant them being #1? Cause every time I see a truck on the side of the road broken down, it was a Ford. Hell I've even seen a BRAND NEW F250 broken down on the side of the road. I towed him out of traffic with my 01 Tacoma. Not to mention the horribly cheap interiors of their trucks. Ford is garbage. Hands down. I've had relatives who owned Fords and had nothing but issues with them. The trucks weren't abused and always had regular service done on them. Just were constantly breaking so they switched to Chevy and haven't had a problem since.

    Guys, understand they cannot just demand trucks in spec as they please. They are provided by the grace of the manufacture. Arranging three trucks of three different brands on the same day at the same time is difficult enough.
    In the perfect world, yes, they would be identical specs/years. The 2015 models over 14' have major differences in the diesel world. That being said, remember this isn't Motor Trend. Small crew, small budget, trying to make it in a big industry.
    ...Give them a break.

    10,000# load is minimal, try 18,000# in tow, driving loaded and leaving Cruise Control on while going down a grade is like driving on black ice with Cruise Control. *face palm* My 2012 RAM CTD with Manual transmission can decelerate from 60 to 35 using only the EB on a 5% grade at gross 25,760#

    I find it too big of a coincidence that A.) Chevy hosted the event and although the Ram has a 3.73 option in the 2500 (as long as it's an auto) they could only find lower geared Rams and Fords. B.) The only time in TFLT that the SOLO messes up AND a camera falls off AND you only have 20 minutes to get to the airport? Need a fair rematch.....and the new Chevy is FUGLY OMG.

    I found it absolutely halarious that Chevy couldn't match the gear ratio's all to 3.73 considering that is the most common gear ratio sold in trucks across america, Also found it halarious how Chevy had to " Bring them together" and then not be able to run all 3 trucks or give the results, considering you had all 3 trucks up and running at the same time? Video shows it. I'd like to see this from Fords' point of view

      joshua orzako I never said ford cares about anyone, they care about the money you put money their pocket, but they consistantly build the best truck/car and consistantly top both dodge and chevy, and it's funny that you say " Go kiss Ford and ask them to take a Dollar off my next truck" because ford has no problem negotiating with customers, even brand new vehicles, no wonder 38 years running ford has the best selling pickups and in Canada, best selling \manufacture Nation wide. Must mean a lot to chevy considering like 6 years ago they needed a government bail of billions of dollars, same goes for dodge and their financial troubles ans asked ford for help. ford gave it to them, Ford has never had any financial troubles or inconsistancies in it's history in North America because the majority of people realize this, so I'll take my $10,000 Rebate that Ford is offering ontop of their Employee pricing and drive away happier than ever, some one would have t pay me to drive a shitty chevy or dodge
