Another day in Cateel, and this time with a birthday surprise! I was hanging out in our local barangay getting a pedicure. All of a sudden, I was invited to a birthday... with GIANT WORMS!! Yes, the locals here in Barangay San Antonio were eating a unique delicacy called "tatod". They look very similar to tamilok, and well...
ARE REALLY STRANGE!!!
At least for me... a Canadian guy!
What a birthday surprise this was! I had a great time learning more about Cateel and connecting with the community here. I really love our new home in Cateel, Davao Oriental. Barangay San Antonion is awesome!

You definitely earned the respect of the folks in the neighborhood with your unwavering respond to their challenge - eat the exotic worm Tamilok. Andrew Zimmern, the host of the TV series Bizarre Food visited Palawan years back and ate one of those worms. Your boldness, adventurous, fearless and daring personality is incredible. I suppose when you are put on the spot, you have to do what you have to do, “do what the Romans do when in Rome”, as the saying. There was a lot of camaraderie and respect in there. You described the taste of the worm as Creamy - yummy! Good for the brain! What an exotic delicacy, indeed! Quick tour of your house is coming along. My suggestion - paint or coat the amakan ceiling with varnish to bring the beauty of the intricate pattern. Having camote vine in your property is a plus along with alugbati. Might like to add Purslane herb too to your garden of vegetables as an alternative. Was a little squeamish when you picked the tamilok and swallowed the worm with gusto - unbelievable!
My husband just waits for me to wake up at 6am here UAE time...4 hours difference in Philippines so we could watch together. Every vlog is exciting. Thank you for always sharing! Take care guys!
