Eating at Broadway Market in London, England

- Broadway Market is a Saturday market in London where you’ll find a variety of delicious food. Check out my blog here: migrationology.com/
When you’re in London on the weekends, one of the best things to do is go to one of the weekend markets. Broadway Market has been around since the late 1800’s, when it was a small neighborhood street. According to their website (www.broadwaymarket.co.uk/), the market began in the 1890’s and it was originally a place where people started selling their local produce. The market thrived, but during the years, as the economy went up and down, the market eventually passed and pretty much came to an end for a number of years.
In the recent years, Broadway Market in London has experienced a bit of a renaissance and made a comeback in a big way. Every Saturday, starting around 8 or 9 am, food and produce vendors set up along Broadway road on the East side of London, in Hackney. Many people show up, hungry, ready to eat, and ready to shop for good quality produce and food products. What I really loved about the market is the friendly neighborhood feel to it. Lots of people gathered with friend to hang out, have a beer or a cup of tea, eat some delicious food, and just enjoy the great social atmosphere of the market.
When I visited London, Ying and I were on a short trip with Chowzter.com, and one of the things we did while in town, was visit the market. It was my first day in London, so I was pretty excited to get out and explore the market and start to eat as much as I could. I was quite happy with the selection of international foods available at the market, ranging from Ghanaian food to Vietnamese and even Thai food. But, since I had just come from Thailand, I was actually trying to stick with more English / UK or at least more European food for the trip. The first thing I tried was some kind of a chocolate brownie cookie filled with cream. Overall, it was quite good, but I’m just not a huge fan of sweets.
I’m a huge fan of smoked salmon, so when I noticed the stall selling smoked Atlantic salmon, that was immediately on my food radar. They were just serving a slab of smoked salmon on a piece of bread along with a garnish of cream cheese and piece of dill. The combo was incredibly good, the smoked salmon was marvelous. It had been a long time since I had eaten smoked salmon, so I was pretty happy, and it was very tasty.
A Scotch egg is something I’ve wanted to eat for a long time, but I had never had the chance. So walking around Broadway Market, I noticed the Scotch eggs, and could not resist. She had a number of different version, but the one that caught my eye the most was the haggis Scotch egg, which was basically a hard boiled egg, covered in haggis sausage, lightly breaded, then deep fried. When I ordered it, she sliced it in half, gave it a pinch of salt, and handed it to me. It was an awesome protein ball, egg, covered in haggis meat, and I loved every bite of it. To get some more meat, I decided to get a roast piri piri chicken at the end. It wasn’t the best chicken I’ve had, perhaps it was a little bland, but it did taste good, and it was pretty cheap for a big amount of chicken. Finally to round out my eating food trip to Broadway Market, I got a couple aubergine rolls, which were eggplant stuffed with feta cheese and a few herbs and spices. They were very tasty, and a great way to end the day at the market in London.

You are lucky to eat so many variety of delicious food.I love your videos.
love your videos Mark. Now i have started following them.
I definitely want to visit this place! Good work Mark.
(as a Brit) - I was looking at the prices of some of these things and thinking WOW we so get ripped off for absolute garbage. Compare to what he spends in Thailand and what you get for your money. No wonder he was unhappy looking - uk street food, not a patch on our oriental cousins.
Yeah as a Northerner from Scarborough it’s unbelievable how much they charge for tasteless meals with no sauce, spices or real magic to them. So bland! An authentic Rogan Josh curry or a Pad Thai looks like heaven in comparison, and it’s also much healthier.
Your reaction after the food is the thing that forces me to click on every one of your video
Great video!!:-)
Hey😂
That Scotch Egg looked immense. The next time I'm visiting London I will be checking out that market.
If you like salmon that much you should come to Norway. I know it's imported all over the world but coming here and fish it on your own and eat it fresh is even better =)
Hello Mark I've noticed not only are you a connoisseur of,
European and Asian cuisine, You are also a budding
chef as well. When are you going to grace us again with
one of your tasty recipes?

Looks Tempting Mark!!
Mark I stumbled across your channel a few weeks ago while searching "street meat" on RUclips and your review of the meat in Thailand looked amazing despite the rotten intestines. After watching that review, I have become hooked into your hammer I love watching you travel and eat delicious food and seeing your reaction to the food. I mean how many people can eat rotten intestines and still have a smile on their face? You are amazing and best wishes in your RUclips channel!
Hi coolkid1901901, big thank you for watching my videos, I really appreciate your support.
I love your face while trying different food items 😇 stay blessed Mark... Sending Love from Pakistan.
It's astonishing how much you've grown and honed your craft in less than two years, Mark. You were already good back in '14, but now you're a bonafide star. Wish you nothing but continued success going forward.
Danger Zone -
"going forward........"
And for the future, too ;-)
That scotch egg looked huge! Man I love scotch eggs.
Hey David Nash, that was my first one, and I love it too, it's a great thing.
Dunno mate i'm from Yorkshire! I usually go to a local butchers which do quality scotch eggs. Sometimes at farmers markets i've found really good ones too with chilli and all sorts in!
Mark Wiens Mark i've you've ever back in England get some real Pork Scratchings, everywhere else i've been do them the Kep Moo style. Not as good trust me! These ones are really salty and like hard and crunchy and sometimes have hairs coming out, they rule.
RobertsDigital I might be a little late but there is a great stall in Borough Market called Scotchtails.
You can get them with sweet potato fries and some salad on the side.
smoked salmon on toast is my favorite. great video as always :D
Yummy! It all looks delicious Mark!
Thank you bebebutterfield1
Amazing how big bites you are able to take!
hi mark, oh man excellent vid, I love that street food sample everything. everything looks so good, and the prices weren't that bad compared with the breakfast vid you did there, but anyways great vid thx :)
"I'm going to see what there is to eat, then IM GOING TO EAT IT!" haha I don't know why that came off as funny to me. Great video mark as always!
Great video as usual Mark. Liked your food selections here at Broadway compared to Borough Market which was a bit uninspiring to me...well, except for the pastel de nata. Will definitely check out Broadway when I'm back in London.
Thanks Tosh T, this market was really cool, and a nice selection of foods and international foods as well.
It's different not just about cooked food there you get organic meat and veg too
The chicken looked superb!
I love Scotch Eggs, too.

#Food #England #ScotchEgg
love this post! Love London food markets, but didn't even know about this one. Noting for my next visit. But enjoyed it as much for seeing your enjoyment as anything :)
I love all your videos, Mark. The next time you're in London you should try some traditional cockney fair of pie, mash and liquor, stewed eels and jellied eels from one of the many pie and mash shops dotted around the capital. My personal favourite shops are F. Cooke, Broadway Market, Hackney and A. Cooke's, Goldhawk Road, Shepherd's Bush, which starred in the cult film Quadrophenia.
Linda Wainwright Thank you Linda.
Peter Sparksman Thank you very much Peter. This trip to London was pretty quick, so hopefully next time I'll have more time, and would love to try your recommendations. Thanks.
Nice work Mark Wiens
I think that first cookie you ate is called a whoopie pie here in the US and kids can't seem to get enough of them.
Great, thank you *****, my first time to try a whoopie pie
Sometimes called a moon pie.
I thought it was a macaroon
Everything mark picks you know it's good
Thank you Freddy Lon
Mark knows nothing about the finer points of food and is not an expert on food and culinary styles/techniques.
He's just there to have a good time travelling and eating at ordinary eateries and makes ill-informed comments and comes up with all those silly and girlish facial gestures at every dish he tastes.
Well, his profession pays good returns...
Put this in the London playlist Mark!
Thanks O.O
just came back from London, visited Broadway market, very cool place, thanks to you! also ate the scotch eggs, i suspect warm they would taste better :) tasted other great foods, luvd it !
Cool market, looks like there's a good variety there
Hi Riz2336, yes there was a great mix of things available.
that bread though with the salmon that was on point!
I can tell how good the food is just by how big your eyes get! haha, great videos!
I know London has restaurants from almost every corner of the world. But my food exploration didn't go further than Cod Fish & chips and cold tasteless sandwiches. Watching your video it looks like I have to explore the culinary side of London again - though have been living here for more than 20 years !
That egg one though!!!!!!♥♥♥
Another great video Mark! I cooked eggs and watched this video.

nathan zifko The egg was better! Thank you for watching.
Haha! I was thinking the same thing! He tilts his head and widens his eyes - dead giveaway on what he actually thinks lol. I love when he makes that face!
Nice! Short - Sweet -Straight 👍

Thanks Mark! Shows you that British food ain't boring afterall
Thanks for watching Josh Acorda, plenty of good things to eat.
Josh Acorda traditional british food is dull, it generation of immigrants influence that have widened the UK palette.
you never tried it if you think that
How is british food dull? You only say that cause it doesnt have 50 different spices in it.
British food is the most boring cuisine in the world
You seemed a little tired Mark , understandable , need to get some rest , many jet lag , anyway keep up the wonderful job I enjoy all your videos
Amazing
Proud to be British
That brownie with peanut butter filling might be a whoopie pie. At least that's what they call it here.
Thank you ampastones, I think that's exactly what it was.
What part of London was this in? What tube line did you take there? Where did you get off? There is an Ealing Broadway, Fulham Broadway, etc.
That eggplant and feta cheese looked awesome
Thanks beachbum0014, they were really tasty.
@@MarkWiens are you planning a trip to Cape Town any time soon?
Hi Mark & Ying, any plans off coming back to the UK?
While you were in London did you try jellied eels? They're a delicious London tradition. And thanks for another wonderful video Mark!
As a Londoner, they’re disgusting
Mark, I just stumbled across your videos a few weeks ago... Needless to say, I'm hungry every time I finish watching an episode. I'm curious, if you have any videos were you talk about your current gear you use to shoot your videos?
Hi David Finch, thank you very much for watching my videos. I haven't made a video about that yet, but planning to. But I'm using a Canon 70D with a RODE videomic pro for sound.
Mark Wiens Great! Thanks for the reply.

Not sure if you've already been, but you should checkout the Wembley Market, it hosts a lot of asian/indian cuisines.
Thank you very much twizted786, I'm not in London anymore, but next time I visit, will definitely check it out.
I was laughing when you were eating the sweet brownie with peanut butter cream filling. I was like, "Mark doesn't do sweet." Somebody must have made you eat it.
Haha Matthew Jay man you know me too well, someone in our group passed it me!
Oh wow...after watching all these videos from exotic places then you come to my home town & do a video...it's a little weird lol.

0:33 That was a whoopee pie! In Maine, our whoopee pies are almost as popular as our lobster....almost.
I love your videos. Do you know any other youtubers who travel the world eating like you do, THANKS
Try the Food Ranger...google him...he's on You Tube as well. Very handsome and single lol. Has GREAT table manners. He's Canadian living in China. LOVE him.
Missy B ...no he ain't single...him and ting ting are a couple
the loveable muslim weirdo Meaning he is STILL SINGLE if he is NOT MARRIED...
Hi Mark. I think that Scotch Egg was from, "eat my pies" Andy Bates food stand. Have you seen him on Food Network?
His is made with black pudding, not haggis and i dont even think he was the first to do that
I hope you tried some of that biltong that was hanging there Mark. It's a South African specialty and when it is made well, it's impossible to put down...
Hi seanonel didn't try that particular one, but I have had it before, and I loved it. Would love to try it in South Africa sometime though. Are you from South Africa?
Mark Wiens I am. I grew up in Zimbabwe and South Africa, so southern Africa hold a special place in my heart, but -like you - I love to see the world and make friends in different cultures.
South Africa is a great place to visit with super food, but it's vast, so I would think you would need to set aside a good few weeks for a visit! :)
Mark, I'm still waiting your video about the visit to Burma.
Hi Saungkyelphyu, I'm working on those now!
The piri piri chicken made my mouth watery
I love London :)
Thanks Lizzy Busy, it's a great city.
My dad is from Manchester England we go to London all the time :) food is good but some good is very bland no taste but I'm use to it I bring my hot sauce lol
You need to come back to the UK
Another great video Mark. Did the wife try the egg?
