    Day 16: Rome, Italy - One day 16 of our round the world trip, it was our final day in Rome, Italy. We started the day visiting Mercato Testaccio, a delicious food market. After walking around and eating at the market, we then took an easy afternoon, before going to Galleria Borghese and having a delicious Italian dinner to finish the day.
    00:38 Mercato Testaccio - Although it was a traditional old market in Rome, Mercato Testaccio has been remodeled and repositioned a couple of times to its current location, which is a modern open air market full of delicious fruits and vegetables and restaurants. It’s a great market for a Italian Rome food tour as it’s a friendly environment and there’s plenty of delicious food.
    Fruit stall - First thing Ying and I decided to eat on the Rome food tour of the market is eat some rapes and cherries, which were fantastic. Price - 4.5 EUR ($5.04) total price
    Mordi e Vai - Next I went to a food stall called Mordi e Vai, and he specializes in some classic Roman food dishes, which he then adds to sandwiches. I ordered the panino con picchiapo, which was a little plain, but pretty good. Price - 4.5 EUR ($5.04)
    La Prosciutteria di Enzo e Lina - The absolute highlight of this Rome food tour at Mercato Testaccio was going to La Prosciutteria di Enzo e Lina and ordering some prosciutto and buffalo mozzarella. Everything was good and the owners are both extremely friendly and helpful. I only wish I could have spoken Italian. The prosciutto was fantastic, but I was really blown away with the quality and taste of the buffalo mozzarella. Prosciutto and mozzarella - 5.5 EUR ($6.16)
    Zoé - After having some salty food, I was ready for a juice, so we had an apple lemon juice which was slow pressed, and it was extremely refreshing. Apple lemon juice - 3.5 EUR ($3.92)
    Strit Fud - Final stop on this Rome food tour at Mercato Testaccio, and I ordered a Panino con il Lampredotto, some kind of a sandwich stuffed with tripe. It was a little on the plain side for me.
    Panino con il Lampredotto price - 7.2 ($8.07)
    12:22 Villa Borghese Gardens - After the great food at the market in the morning, we then headed over to Galleria Borghese, where I had pre-booked tickets online. Galleria Borghese is a museum in Rome, and it has some similarities to the Vatican City Museums, but it’s much more low key and not as busy. Especially if you love museums, you’ll love visiting Galleria Borghese in Rome. Online tickets - 14 EUR ($15.69) per person
    15:34 Fiaschetteria Marini Restaurant - For dinner, we walked over to an Italian restaurant called Fiaschetteria Marini Restaurant. The family owned restaurant turned out to be a really amazing place, with friendly service, and excellent food. The gnocchi alla Fiaschetteria was particularly delicious, but their mezzemaniche alla Amatriciana was also fantastic. Total price - 34 EUR ($38.10)
    It was a leisure day in Rome, we didn’t try to do too much, but we had a great time eating through Mercato Testaccio and our final Italian food meal in Rome.

    A little hint for non-Italians (sry I use google translator), when you eat prosciutto and mozzarella (this applies to almost every Italian food) you have to eat them together, sure are good even by themselves but it's the combination that works; the mozzarella sweet taste and the prosciutto strongest flavor.
    This happens for many other combinations (try asking the waiter) like with prosciutto and melon or all the many cheeses combinations (fresh or aged) with honey and jam.
    Another little thing, with cold cuts, cheeses, meat, side dishes .. etc use the bread like you do with rice (pasta excluded, we use bread with pasta only to make the "scarpetta" for sauce), because bread is essential to "cleaning" the palate (its neutral taste helps when the cheese, salami etc are strong).
    Nice video and nice the way you treat food, ciao.

    Quite amused at the lady from 'Strit Fud'. When Mark asked for the lampredotto sandwich, she said, "Do you know what it is?" I imagine that a number of tourists order it without knowing what it is and then complained when they got it. Ahahaha. Thank you so much for making the Rome series. They were so enjoyable to watch. I hope that you come back for a visit again :-)

    A couple of things...
    First lampredotto is a typical food of central Italy but you must taste it in Florence and not Rome. Usually they serve it with LOTS of salt and PEPPER and thus the taste is anything but plain... You should have tried the porchetta instead, which is a much more "roman" type of panino and I'm sure you would have liked it better.
    You didn't have a lot of days in Rome but there are some sights you left out, like the Vittoriano, i Musei Capitolini, Castel Sant'Angelo, Bocca della Verità and the various churches (Santa Maria del Popolo, Sant'Andrea della Valle, San Pietro in Vincoli, San Luigi dei Francesi, Santa Maria Maggiore etc etc). Maybe for the next time...??
    Finally you can see that the head does not tilt till "the middle of the strike zone" like usually. I can understand that for someone used to very spicy food, european dishes can be a little underwhelming. Very curious as to what will happen in Stockholm...
    For the rest, excellent job as always.

      The haters are probably just jealous because they aren't living his life and didn't have enough insight and creativity to create a life like Mark's.

      Mark Wiens Hi Mark! I have just discovered your channel and I am loving it. I only wanted to suggest you to visit Sardinia, the experience would we SOOOO different from the one you had in Rome, rustic the way you like it. Also many foods made in Sardinia are proven to be extremely beneficial in terms of health, the center of Sardinia is in fact a Blue Zone, one of the 5 areas of the world where people live a lot longer than average (the oldest was 117). It would be a pleasure to show you around, and I mean it.

      Organic fruit and vegetables are available in the US. It's just more expensive to buy them.

    • @shogunracingmovement2260
      @shogunracingmovement2260 8 лет назад +4

      M.C. just being sarcastic my man. I live in the u.s. I was just stating that in some countries organic fruit is the only thing on the market. we pay more to stay HMO free. sounds crazy. but I wanted to see what is in our store milk, in a actual lab analysis, holy shit! do not drink the milk!

    • @m.c.9310

      shogun racing movement Sorry dude. Yeah, I think in the EU they don't let in any food that has GMO or artificial flavoring, etc. I don't know why it can't be done in the US. I watched that documentary "Food Inc". And it completely changed the way I eat! If possible, I try to buy organic.

    • @shogunracingmovement2260
      @shogunracingmovement2260 8 лет назад +2

      its crazy how it works too....HMO and GMO byproduct passes from mother to child from breast milk. its sad how many people are being unknowingly poisoned and yet to even give a shit anymore because u.n. sanctioned countries are doping us through air and food. I wish it was a conspiracy. on my free time I have even investigated my local lake and the results are shocking. I suspect chemtrails boosted the barium and aluminum sulfate levels twice toxicity over a 8 month period. we are just being distracted with by means of entertainment and obviously its working. the plan is literally etched in stone on those stones in Georgia "hint"
