1,000 YEAR OLD FOOD MARKET! British Food Tour of Borough Market in LONDON

- Опубликовано: 19 июн 2024
- I arrived in London on a rainy day and since I love rain so much. I went to the Borough Market for my British food adventure and also to enjoy my favorite weather. At the Borough Market, they served some delicious vegan and beef pies, amazing juicy pork wraps, super light creamy donuts, cheesy raclette with potatoes and many more! But after eating at the market, around 3 AM in the morning I was still hungry, so I went to get some salted beef sandwiches at the Beigel Shop. That was the best decision I ever made.

Hello I was the doughnut girl at 7:15 glad you enjoyed it! 🍩
Hi Nadia!👋 It’s always great to see people in Mike’s videos comment on his videos.
Definitely want to go to the market to buy some of those Donuts.
@@nadiafontana6394 Had these donuts a few months ago and they were fantastic
I'm willing to put money on the fact that Nadia is sweeter than the donuts. 🙃 Wonder does that stall still trade there? Never seen doughnuts presented like that with the fillings/styled toppings. 👍🏻 All round for working in the wet & cold 😵
Nadia, you looked that you are outside on the Antarctica blizzard... cold!!! But you still smiled at Mikey... Sweet gal.
The pie and mash at the start really sums up British food and why it’s good. People say it’s dull and bland, but you’re stood there, it’s cold and wet, and you have a steaming forkful of hot beef pie and potato, with gravy.
Pie and mash is a good start, but when the weather really closes in and things are looking grim you need pie and peas.
@@walterblock8272 Peas!!!
And bangers and mash with peas and savoury pies, like chicken and mushroom pies are my favourite foods
You say it's touristy but as someone who's lived in London for 12 years now, Londoners definitely also go to Borough, it's so so good. Also it was probably a good thing that you went on a grim grey day, sometimes it's so busy it's just no fun. If you come back Spitalfields also has a brilliant food market, and you can walk to Brick Lane from there (which I've seen other people have already recommended).
It's touristy becuase it's midweek working day. Most people who live in London will have work or school
that bagel he got was brick lane, but I second spitalfields.
@@umt6429 What
Ye......as a shortcut to be walked with sharpened shoulders!
East london fr hits different when u wanna walk around and find spots to eat yk
Your comments about the pie at the beginning is everything people don’t get about British cuisine. Eat it on a cold, wet day, and you will understand, respect and desire it!
The Beigal shop is owned by my family and I'm glad you liked the salt beef beigal. Also the Portuguese tarts are good if you fancy something sweet. Love your content, keep up the good work bro.
Sam White send me one to America bro
I can't wait to go there when I am in London!!!!
3 am!! Can you please open a location in LA!!!
5:47 “Moist as this country’s weather” 😂😂🤣🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣 pissing it down as I write this 🌧🌧🌧
Why I was reading this and he said that at the same time 😂😂
Get you a man that talks like Mikey Chen talks about food and looks at you like he looks at food 😂 “I adore this!” The level of enthusiasm and the pure joy on his face this is why I love this channel
Omg my sister and brother made that pie as they are working inside the Pie minister factory 🏭. My favourite is the moo pie 🥧 it’s soooooo good and yummy 😋. We always eat pie every weekend because they brought home some pie. Pie minister also has an amazing sausage rolls. Welcome to Uk 🇬🇧
@McDonalds Farmer yh they sell them in supermarkets
Whenever I go to London I ask myself, why do us Americans have a bigger obesity problem 🤣? The last time I was in London for two weeks I gained 7lbs lol.
Good chap. U.K. 🇬🇧
Love their Moo and Blue pies.
Dude!!!!!!! You went to the wrong beigel shop!!!!!@ 😭😭😭 beigel bake next door is the one!!! It's been there since 40s or 50s possibly earlier and up until very recently the bloke and his son who opened it worked there!!! A straight up staple of London!!
3:47 Buttery crust. Best way to describe a vegan pie
Jean Renez i thought that!
Margiriny crust🤷🏽♂️
I'm convinced that he really doesn't know much about food.
Something can taste buttery but not have real butter in it.
@Qwerty Ty - (cries)
Leaving london tomorrow, been here 8 days and are full! The food here is amazing, way better than I expected. Always heard bad stuff about the cusine here but it's not true. Everything about that market is true!
"let's stay away from the vegan pie"
buys it anyways
"this flavor is better than the meat pie"
That's because it isn't vegan, they lie & put lard & butter in the pastry.
Vegans are morons by default so they don't know any better, they just think its the veg that makes it good.
@@HereticDuo
so it's OK to lie to morons?
@@maxsiehier Isn't that how business work? I mean, Starbucks, Apple, you know?
@@TheRatedOniChannel yes and it's also how the meat industry works, or McDonalds, Burger King, KFC, still not okay
@Rosie Potter I believe you. Dairy, gluten, nuts, all those things are usually taken care of well. Cool to know they have that though!
But as for ingredients of foods in general, many companies are insanely deceptive. No wonder we're all unhealthy.
I'm upset that you were able to find better food in London than I can and I'm a londoner. For shame ...
@Kristine Jane maybe he has superpowers and is moving the camers with psychotelekenisis
Kristine Jane he has the special ability of putting the camera on a table or wall
Oh he has super powers all right - if he can actually find food in London...
i super agree with you
@@harvstralosik678 I'd go with that
Genuinely suprised every video at how much you can eat!
I recently found this channel and after watching more releases I realized how much he must exercise to stay that hungry. I've been doing a lot of endurance training simply to eat more food. This also required I cut down on liquor. Mikey Chen is a shaman
Asians in general eat quite a lot of food
As a Korean living in London, this video definitely makes this my favourite channel on yt. Love ur vids.
You're my favourite food blogger, Mikey. I love how much you enjoy your surroundings and other cultures.
“Vegan pie - we’ll stay away from that.”
😂😂😂😂😂❤️
Sojansetly love him even more
*gets it anyway. Lol
Hahaha just love that line he said hahaha
@@ianbonnar1801 Coz food is food and I'm eating them all
I like some vegan food, I would try it.
Welcome to the British weather, and the food that helps us through it!
I've eaten so many meat pastries and pies this winter that this almost feels like déjà-vu!
Also, if you can, I suggest going to a creamery! They perhaps don't have much food, but cafés and free samples should tide you through, it's really awesome!
Folk who slate British food really have no clue what they’re talking about!
I wish I had Mike’s metabolism. How do you eat so much ?!?!? Wow
Great video, as someone who is from England (the north, because it's the best part) you become de-sensitised to the food which you eat a lot and grew up, so it is great to see someone else's view as a tourist and makes you realise just how great our food really is. Well done :D
Finally my home country - if I see something I like, I could actually go get it
Ikr same
Doh!!! i stayed so close when i was there last year and didn't realize it was there. i walked the other direction, west, and there were so many markets out that way too!!! london is such a foodie heaven.
Did ya just do a to homer Simpson reference..🙄
What I love about London is how it wears it's multiculturalism so proudly. You can eat cuisine from practically ANY country in the world in London. And it's all GOOD too! Say what you like about stodgy traditional British dishes (glad to see you tried salt-beef, aaah it' so good!), the sheer variety and excellence on offer in London is what makes it so special. Try a Bakewell Tart if you see one. They're my favourite ^_^
Only ignorant people say british food is bad. I travel europe canada and the states and have had awful food everywhere at some point but im not ignorant enough to know they dont have great foods too and the uk is just the same!
@@yurippp634 to bad England forced countries to speak English rather than assimilating to their cultures.
@@yasmin935 too bad you don't know the difference between "assimilation" and "being assimilated". Britain is an assimilator, taking influence from all over the world and yet, somehow, also making it uniquely british. The most obvious example, of course, being tea. A product that the entire world now tends to associate more with the British culture than any of the countries it is actually grown in. Your ignorance is frankly astonishing, given that one of the things that make the English language pretty much the de facto lingua franca of the world is that is so easily and seamlessly assimilates words from other languages wherever the concept is unique - as just demonstrated with "de facto" and "lingua franca". Meanwhile France has argued over whether "weekend" should be struck from their language... Travel more and read more widely, and next time you might be able to say something intelligent, and based on reality, rather than provincial racism.
When it is safe to do so, you should do a whole UK Tour, you can get trains from different london stations to basically anywhere in the UK, Including a Link from London Euston to Glasgow in Scotland, or Euston to Holyhead in Wales, or London Paddington to St Ives in Cornwall. On the trains you get to most places in the UK 😍
Why he want to do a tour of the whole UK? He's a busy man. He did well going to London.
LOVE these European food tours! An awesome and well-timed change from your mostly Asian cuisine tours! You’re awesome Mikey keep it up.
Who is here after Mikeys new video saying him and his girlfriend broke up while they were travelling in London.
Me lol
Me too...hehehe
I am only here because it was on RUclipss front page for me likely because it likely got popular after the video of him saying they broke up in London

Six Petrified Trees I don’t even understand the comment
Meat pies look delicious. Pastrami sandwich looks great. Making me so hungry.
It seems that London would be a great foodie paradise because of the fusion of all different cultures bringing their best dishes to the party. Have never been but now I just have to! I have to visit that market and eat that pork 🤤
Oh my gosh you're in London!!! I've been following your channel for a few years. Big fan. Have a wonderful time and I hope you don't get rained on. There is some really nice pubs with food in an area called Highbury & Islington which is one stop away from King's Cross on the tube. Look up gastropubs for cosy British winter food. Enjoy the Big Smoke and thanks for all the amazing videos!
people mock british food for being just pie n' mash every day without much spices and stuff
but
we know how to make that kinda food bloody well
They mock bc they really don’t have much else to pick on do they? They’re losers
Billy don't disagree with the delicious and good part, but definitely not healthy
I love British food. People can mock it all they want, more for me.
Yep after you added spices from the colonies 😂😂
@@CloroxBleach-vy1dj He said hearty (as in filling and comforting) not healthy. I don't think anyone would call our food healthy haha

If you are ever back in the uk go to a pub with homemade food that does a lamb suet pudding. There’s one near me that does them (but I’m in the north) and it’s the most underrated thing ever. Big chunks of lamb with gravy in a suet pudding. In winter it’s perfect food. In the uk we maybe aren’t known for our food but we do cook hearty winter food. Get a good meat broth! Also try our deserts! We do cake and pudding well here
I do too! I love an overcast day. If it's like 78 overcast it can even be a little drizly and then turn into a nice thunderstorm. I'm all about that
Your videos are always amazing, your my favorite blogger and I love watching your vids!
I watch Mikey's videos and I wish I could go to Japan and Taiwan... then a video like this comes up and makes me so happy that this is my home. Watching the guy at the lamb confit stand calling for buyers just made me feel at home, strange I know.
It was neat seeing you collaborate with The Try Guys. I watch both, couldn’t believe it. I love seeing cross overs. :)
All these food look extremely heavenly. Especially the doughnuts and the cheese.
I hope you went to Camden town as well, Camden is a must see for tourists. So much variety in the food. I say this as someone who isn't a Londoner (but lives fairly close).
Thanks again for a epic food video! The donuts looked amazing!
Sitting here in Bristol enjoying the fact you liked a pieminister pie! They're awesome!
The way he so accurately describes all the food he eats just blows my mind.. Awesome!!
Don’t make the same mistake I did! Go in the morning, or at least at lunch, never nighttime!
I remember I was in London on vacation recently with my family for two days. I went here and had no knowledge at all, other than knowing about the food from mike’s delicious video, so I went the night I arrived. I didn’t know that, the stalls close down and the pubs and bars open up. I was so disappointed, looking forward to fresh pastries like those donuts and amazing sausage rolls, the pie and mash place, and a lot of roasted meat. I think I cried that night 😭.
Yeah with British culture the night is never to eat, but to get drunk as hell. British, not part of that scene I am more of the sad wierldyl obsessed hobbiest scene Britain also have, but that is all that night time is about I am afraid, that or staying inside your home playing bridge.
Did you go the next day, those doughnuts look tasty.
@@emilymalden3310 no, I was sadly only there for 2 days and I had to go to Warner Bro. Studio tours and other things that day, very busy week. But, I have a few relatives living in London who gave us a tour, and I’m sure we will go back soon!
I’m so glad you’re in London!!! I hope you enjoy it. You went to borough market, I’m not surprised if you go to Chinatown, also please don’t take London for granted because there are so many different cultures here you can experience, from Latin American, African, Caribbean and Asian: yes visit shoreditch, brick lane, etc. But you and I both know if you want to try ethnic food, for example Jewish food : North London, Golders Green , Caribbean food: Brixton, Portuguese: Stockwell, Vauxhall. Italian: North London. Soho has great places and Camden Town too!!! London is a multicultural city. Enjoy it.

"This pork is as moist as this country's weather" hahaha
I had brined a brisket in preparation for some bbq and it got interrupted so I froze it. One thing after another I ended up just baking it. It had basically become almost liked a cured beef and roasted into meltyness. It was shockingly good and I can only imagine it’s similar to that beef!

Why doe's the UK have such a bad reputation when it comes to food? It's good stuff.
During WW2 the Americans came over and suffered our rations. Because of that, we suffered a bad reputation. When actually I would say our food is great! But I'm biased...
@@sandgrownmanc6614 Completely true, people think we don't season food, based on a time when people couldn't have sugar or salt etc on their food
