I had to get rid of Sonoma which was freezing my M1 laptop every time I played a video. This has been a problem for months and Apple hasn't fixed it. So my only option was to revert. Thanks SO much for this! Straightforward, helpful and deeply appreciated.
I don't have any word to express how grateful I am. Brother your video has helped me a lot. I called apple care thrice but every time I was said that ventura cannot be rolled back in my mac. Finally after spending my whole sunday on youtube I came across your video and I read all comments and I got that courage to start this process, and finally at 3:50am I did this successfully. Thank you so much brother. 😇
Amazing! This has been the most helpful way to perform the downgrade the right way, thanks a lot for taking time on having done this video, you don´t know how you saved my next record recording session beginning this weekend and I can only have at its highest Monterey to actually use my FireWire mixer interface. Sir, you saved a record! Thx a lot again! 🥰
I'm happy to know my wife and I are not the only ones. We've been ripping our hair out for the last 6 hours trying to get SPSS to work. Thanks for this wonderful tutorial!
Just dropping a comment to say that I followed the instructions and saved my 2022 M2 MBP. When it updated to Sonoma, it was caught in a login/restart loop. I didn’t have any backup for my data but fortunately I didn’t have a lot yet. Cleared the drive and got Ventura loaded on a 32 GB Sandisk USB. Now we’re back in business!
Likely the most concise video instructions that encompasses the gambit of scenarios. In my case I am downgrading from Sonoma Public Beta back to Ventura. Had I not watched this video matters would have been a lot more complicated as the information provided for my scenario is vital. Thank you! EDIT: I actually used step three where I downgraded from macOS Sonoma Public Beta to Ventura. Matters went smoothly with no issues other than having to authorize permissions again for certain apps. P.S. I did make Time Machine backup on a separate drive for Sonoma Beta just in case something went awry, but didn’t need as all went well with my Ventura Time Machine backups.
Can I please ask if your TM backup (I guess done in Ventura) restored to the Ventura downgraded OS OK? I'm doing the same as you and want it to be as problem free as possible! Intel Quad Core 3.5 - Mid 2015 I think

thanks brother, you comment has encouraged me to initiate the process of downgrading sonoma to ventura. thanks bro. I hope it will work for me as well.
Great video! I used this as guide to downgrade sonoma to ventura. My M1 suddenly drains batt faster after upgrading to sonoma. Now am back to ventura! Thanks a lot!
When I do the downgrade and ventura is installed, and I want to use the time machine back up. Does it only put my files back, or will it put the operating system back aswell?

This is great! Fantastic! One step I missed was - at about 11 minutes in the video - connect to WIFI again before doing the install because although it is installing from the bootable disk, it needs an internet connection to do some of the setup.

I have a 2019 5k i9 Intel iMac without the T2 security chip. I'm finding it impossible to achieve a downgrade. I've successfully created a bootable USB version of Ventura, but when booting my iMac via holding down the Option key, the bootable USB does not show up. Only the internal SSD is available. I've also attempted the Recovery method, Utilities>Start Up Security. The only thing presented there is adding a password for preventing bootup from external devices. It doesn't offer an option for enabling bootable USB. Thoughts?
I cannot thank enough for this video. Mr. Macintosh I think you have to put this info somewhere else too (or a newer standalone video) because this video contains the only way to downgrade an M processor mac from Sonoma 14.1.1 to Ventura WITHOUT a bootable usb. -- Downgrading was an inevitable end on my part as some of my climate analysis tools were not usable with Sonoma. Out of pure new Mac enthusiasm I upgraded my M2 Mbp to Sonoma on the day of purchase, forgetting the possibilities of compatibility issues with very old software. After waiting almost for a month for solutions from Homebrew, Anaconda, and Macports to appear (while trying every possible way to overcome those issues on my own) I no longer have time to wait as my graduation approaches. Anyways, as mentioned in the video, using Apple Configurator to enable the target Mac's Ventura restore screen here works perfectly. Hope this comment gives courage to people with lost hopes to follow the instructions given in the video. Once again, thanks a billion times Mr. Macintosh, you saved a degree.

You mentioned in the video that the downgrade, but you demonstrate only works if the Sonoma is a beta I have the full version of Sonoma installed and I’m having tremendous issues with it not working correctly with the voiceover screen reader which I must use. I’ve tried everything I can find on the Internet to downgrade and trying from time machine and several other things, and I just cannot make any of them work given that I am totally blind and use voiceover. Will your steps work for a full install of Sonoma? If not can you guide me to someplace where I can figure out how to do this at this point, I’m willing to re-format the whole hard drive, and install Ventura from fresh and then pick and choose files out of my time machine and rebuild my system

And also, when I were erasing flash drive for making it boot disk, there was no option for scheme (GUIF map) , only format of a disk(MacOs Journaled) Could it be the problem?

I can’t get my iMac into recovery mode after I reboot with the usb plugged in. Does the newest version of oclp not support recovery mode on older iMacs?
Hello sir, In the 2nd way do i need macOS ventura installer or i can do directly as you did. Because, i did not recover or have any installer, and it's not happening. Please help.
Hi, Somehow it doesn't work on my computer. (MacBook Pro 2021 14'') At the end of the process it gives the text "Failed to extract AssetData/boot/Firmware/Manifests/InstallerBoot/* from update bundle The bless of the installer disk failed." What could that be? I would be very happy, if you response 🙂 Best wishes
Hi MM thanks for the great video. Quick question if you would no mind. Ia it possible to downgrade a Mac mini 2023 with Apple M2 chip to Big Sur? There is one medical application I need for my staff at work. Older computers could do a drag and drop of PDF files nicely into this software but our new computer cannot. The software company will not fix this problem promptly, if ever, and they blame Apple. I want to downgrade the mini to Big Sur which seems to be the newest macOS that works for this situation. I would like to not have to erase the computer to find out that in the end it is not possible. I have checked the Every Mac web site bout would like to have your expect opinion. Thank you for your help.
What if my Mac M2 Air comes preinstalled out of the box with Sonoma already. I want to downgrade to Monterery is that possible with the tutorial in this video ? (the first method to be exact)
Am I right that the firmware stay on the lets say Sonoma firmware even when you downgrade to Ventura? I had run Sonoma beta and suddenly had terrible data corruptions. I had tried installing Ventura again but didn't work. Now that Sonoma is a full release it works again. Making me believe that the firmware was faulty. Unless I'm wrong that I think the firmware don't get downgraded, only the OS.
Hello @stanchung69 a proper downgrade requires an erase of the disk. Usually when you get that message you are trying to reinstall over the top of your current macOS Version with an older version. If you first backup all your data then erase your disk, the usb installer should precede with Ventura install
@@Mr.Macintosh Thank you, Managed to downgrade after some difficulty. The wifi icon couldn't be found in the top right corner, then after a few tries with an ethernet cable that didn't work, the wifi icon miraculously appeared after sticking in a different ethernet cable. I have been upgrading my mac mini m1 to sonoma 14.1 and decided to install it clean. I dont use any usb or anything just macos recovery. I go to recovery and it says sonoma, so far so good. I then erased macintosh HD volume and my mac restarted asking me to activate it. Ok i activated my mac and then it shows macos ventura recovery and I just click on install ventura and it did. This is strange because I have upgraded from ventura to sonoma 14 and after that to sonoms 14.1 the day it been released. Did the macos not change recovery after ventura to sonoma because it booted to sonoma recovery when sonoma was installed but after erasing the drive and activation it was on ventura recovery?
I followed your instruction but when I tried to install it after starting again my Macbook Air 2024 M3, it says Ventura not compatible with new M3. What should I do? What OS is compatible for Macbook Air 2024 M3? Anyone with the same case? Sonoma is draining my battery too much :((
I tried to do this. I wanted to take my M2 Mac Studio from Ventura to Monterey. I now have an ORANGE flashing led on the Mac Studio. I guess I gotta go to the Mac Store...
I should clarify could you use a bootable clone rather than a bootable installer. My thinking is if it could be done I could build a master with all my installed applications and could do the downgrade across a few devices that now have Sonoma that has created various issues.
The most precise, clear, instructions I've seen in my 36 years on this planet.
It's not a downgrade its a upgrade

I am chatting with Apple, and they say since mine comes with Sonoma I can’t go back to Ventura. Which makes no sense cause I’m watching you do it.
Did you get it to work?
thank you. i used the way with the bootable drive and it works
Hello sir,
In the 2nd way do i need macOS ventura installer or i can do directly as you did.
I would be very happy, if you response 🙂
Best wishes
Im having the same problem
I tried it and it worked now! I took the version 13.6. Try this, maybe you have success...@@DSTUARTification
Thanks for amazing videos
can you tell us pls how to do from MacBook pro 2016 pls ? thanks
Great guide thank you, does this apply to M1 MAX machines too ?
Hey such a useful video! Question, how do i know i have the beta mode?
thaank you so much! i successfully downgraded my macbook air m1 from sonoma which did nothing but to slow down my mac.
My m1 Mac Studio say it can’t be downgraded. What should I do? Your help is greatly appreciated
Learnt my lesson. NEVER upgrade the new OS unless I have time to muck around and repair.
Hey when I after I do the --volume step it tells me the follwing:
This tool must be run as root.
logout
Saving session...
...copying shared history...
...saving history...truncating history files...
...completed.
Deleting expired sessions...60 completed.

What do I do from here?
Hii can i ask if i downgraded to an older version of mac os, will i still be able to update to the newest version of mac os?
I have been upgrading my mac mini m1 to sonoma 14.1 and decided to install it clean. I dont use any usb or anything just macos recovery. I go to recovery and it says sonoma, so far so good. I then erased macintosh HD volume and my mac restarted asking me to activate it. Ok i activated my mac and then it shows macos ventura recovery and I just click on install ventura and it did. This is strange because I have upgraded from ventura to sonoma 14 and after that to sonoms 14.1 the day it been released. Did the macos not change recovery after ventura to sonoma because it booted to sonoma recovery when sonoma was installed but after erasing the drive and activation it was on ventura recovery?
absolute legend mate
I can't find the link for downgrading to Vantura on older, intel T2 Macs (mine is 2018)
I followed your instruction but when I tried to install it after starting again my Macbook Air 2024 M3, it says Ventura not compatible with new M3. What should I do? What OS is compatible for Macbook Air 2024 M3? Anyone with the same case?
Sonoma is draining my battery too much :((
Hi Mr Macintosh, please, is possible to downgrade from Sonoma to Ventura without formatting and loos data? Thanks
does the install pkg work if I want to upgrade from Catalina. 2019 Mac not m1 or m2
hi, i need to downgrade from sonoma to ventura in my macos late 2011
I tried to do this. I wanted to take my M2 Mac Studio from Ventura to Monterey. I now have an ORANGE flashing led on the Mac Studio. I guess I gotta go to the Mac Store...
This worked thank you so much!!
Can I restore M1 Macbook Air from beta to the official release (include downgrade the firmware) using idevicerestore in Linux and an IPSW file?
could you use a bootable clone of a computer to do this or does it have to be an install and then a restore from a cloned drive?
I should clarify could you use a bootable clone rather than a bootable installer. My thinking is if it could be done I could build a master with all my installed applications and could do the downgrade across a few devices that now have Sonoma that has created various issues.
Just completed my Downgrade step by step! Thank you so !!!
There is only Sonoma when I erase drive
Restart the computer and then you will see ventura
Yeah I was frustrated for a sec
But just restart and don’t click options but install Ventura (which is your usb)
Thank you man 🎉❤ you saved my life
how big of storage do I need my usb drive to be?
enough to save all your storage so if i have 35gb used on my macbook, i'll have to use a usb or hardrive of 50usb to make sure everything was saved
