I bought one of these a few weeks ago and hands down, the best PS3 controller I used. Not having to deal the aging official PS3 controller or MICRO USB with the PS4 controller is such a Godsend to me.
10:18 Another problem with Dualshock 3 is that there's a loooooot of bootlegs out there. The market is flooded with them. And the packaging looks quite convincing. The actual bootleg DS3's are terrible, though. Sixaxis doesn't work, the sticks are weird and in general it just feels cheap.
I remember actsedentally buying one on eBay thinking it was real when I first got my PS3. As soon as I saw it in person I realized I’d wasted 20 bucks. Thank goodness I was able to return it.
I got 3 different bootlegs from Ebay that claim to be original. Of course after realizing (easily) during gameplay that they're garbage, I returned them and got my money and alerted Ebay that it's allowing sellers to sell counterfit items with a Sony logo on them. The same happened with Walmart. Sony really sucks for discontinuing essential accessories, and I've been investing in PC since then.
I can't wait to see a video on the upcoming OG Xbox Retro Fighters controller. Also, I've come across a Hyperkin cable they call a "Pro Edition". It's for SNES, N64 & GameCube converting the S-Video signal to make it compatible with all 3. The listing I saw showed it comes with some visual settings options and cost twice as much as their previous cables. Might be an interesting video topic? I know it won't be the best way to play any of those consoles, I'm curious if it's an improvement from prior cables Hyperkin has produced.
Great review Adam. Thank you for bringing up the issue of PS2 backwards compatibility not initially working with the first version of the controller (PS1,PS2,PS3) to make Retro Fighters aware of this. And kudos to Retro Fighters for the speedy fw fix. Now, with that all being said... I have nothing negative to say to you Adam, but I do have a few things to say about this controller myself that I can't seem to find anywhere when it comes to a review about this controller on youtube. Here goes.. I own the first version (PS1, PS2, PS3) and honestly, I think Retro Fighters screwed up initially or, they they are tryin' to cash in on this product by releasing 2 versions. I mean, this controller IS acceptable as being a very good 3rd party alternative controller that's also well built for the PS1-PS3 but, I think they could of just added six axis with bluetooth support initially. Although they didn't. 😢 I don't understand why they didn't make a controller that was initially bluetooth AND had the six axis support from the get go so it could be fully supported to work with PS1-PS3 and even with limitations on the PS4 or PS5 initially, as you say it also does. To me, I feel it's pointing towards a direction of an extra cash in, because lets say if someone wanted the six axis feature too, they'd then have to shell out more money just to get the new version that supports it... and to top it off the newer version doesn't support PS1-PS2 to make it an all in one. Anyway, this is just my two cents on this. The other thing that I could not find anyone else talking about is, if you are a SF or fighting game fan, like myself, and you're looking for a controller for that particular genre of games, just forget about it. Doing fireballs (Hadoken) is fine but once you try to perform (consistantly) uppercuts (Sho Ryu Ken) with this controller it fails very badly. Also, the L & R triggers are kind of sticking out a bit more than they should and get in the way of your fingers when doing special moves which can be problematic. So, again, if you are into fighting games keep that in mind. And no, I'm not some n00b at Street Fighter. Been playing since SF II during the arcade days and also on the SNES version and other platforms throughout the years after. And lastly, I just want to say that besides what I just mentioned, I do still use this controller. But only for other games that are of different genres, such as Racing, FPS and 3rd person action adventure games like Uncharted where it works great. Minus the games that need six axis controls like Lair for the PS3. I need to shell out more cash for that or just use my creaky old official PS3 controller. 😬 Anyway, that's it. I just thought I throw my honest opinion out there about this controller and also how it could of been a lot more of an all in one controller if they didn't split it up into 2 controllers. 🤔🤷 Cheers, Adam! 😎
I kinda wish we got that boomerang controller for PS3 not sure how good it would have been 😹 I think the PS5 controller is the best controller they have made
I'm glad they fixed the problem, because I was very interested the first time I heard of these, but that sync problem was a total deal breaker. I still need to get the retro fighters Dreamcast Striker controller so I think when I buy that I'm going to get one of these also. I don't mind the PS3 controller, I've just gotten used to it at this point, but if there's a better option now available that will also last longer I'd be stupid not to take advantage of it.
I'm the dude on Facebook who mentioned I preordered their Xbox controller, and yeah I'd really like to jump in on getting their PlayStation controllers, especially this one you just showed, because of it having USB-C instead of the hard to find micro USB.
One thing I'm glad for is that the Switch Pro and regular controllers are bluetooth 2.1 which works with my laptop right out of the box but of course on Sonic Triple Trouble 16 bit worked properly. I had to use BetterJoy to configure the rest but other than that. A good way to use my 2010 laptop bluetooth without buying a separate usb bluetooth stick just for bluetooth 4.0 to make Xbox controllers work.
Yeah I hated the Dual shocks up until the DS4. They were too small and the grips weren’t long enough my hands would cramp up after a while. The Dual Analog was better with its longer grips.
Thank you for reviewing this Adam, and I think I agree with you on the Dualshock 3 in terms of not feeling 'worthy of a next-gen' experience. And likewise, the Dualsense has really been a treat!
good to know it works well as a PS3 replacement pad, if we can get my wife's ps3 back up and running again might have to look into getting one of these!

If Retro Fighters could make Xbox 360 controllers, that would be amazing. I've destroyed at least 5 over my life time. I think hall effects are in order for retro consoles.
I think I’m going to pick it up for my PS3. I’ve been looking for a solid 3rd party PS3 controller with all the features for a while. Especially since the DS3 does that weird thing where the controller freaks when you don’t use it for a while (random button presses, etc) I remember doing that one trick where you have to open it up and use for tape on it. But I don’t want to have to do that.
Honestly I would've been at least alright with the og PS3 controller if it wasn't for the fact that it somehow felt cheaper than the PS1 and PS2 controllers. So I'm very glad for these, especially since the 3rd party market otherwise sucks. Know if these have hall sensor sticks?
What is holding me back from this is the lack of open bluetooth support like blueretro, they could allow sync mode with ps3 or ps4 profile so it could be used on whatever console
The fact that the ps4 and ps5 controllers rest directly on the triggers annoys me. If I'm watching a movie on the console and I bump the controller resting on my ottoman, it starts fast forwarding or rewinding
perhaps i'm weird and i mean, i like the original xbox's "Duke" controller so i'd say its likely, however. i personally think that if we had gotten the ps3's "Boomerang" controller it actually looks like it would have been a pretty comfy controller to me lol
Nice! I still use my green defender after watching the original video you made. Speaking of which, how are the triggers? Are they more stiff? I hope so because the original defender L2/R2 triggers are more sensitive than a college student that I often found myself accidentally "pushing" the button because of my index fingers having a little bit of pressure on it :\
@@AdamKoralik that's a shame. I hope the eventual Defender 2 or successor has a little more fight. I think the OG PS3 triggers have a good level of pressure.

This controller is NOT on par with DS3, not even close. If that's what you're looking for, keep searching. Does it have the features it advertises? (sixaxis, pressure sensitivity etc.) Yes but what I can only describe as third party quality in all of it. @@AdamKoralik It's charged. I waited 2 hours before and everytime I press the home button It just blinks... I probably got a faulty one lol.
@@miabustamante2866 Hm, try doing a firmware update.
It is an awesome controller but I think stock PS4 and PS5 would be a better option because it has the mouse pad. But awesome controller for PS3, PS2 and PS1. Would be cool if it worked for PS2 and PS1 but it has no dongle
This controller is NOT on par with DS3, not even close. If that's what you're looking for, keep searching.
Does it have the features it advertises? (sixaxis, pressure sensitivity etc.) Yes but what I can only describe as third party quality in all of it.
If you're looking for something to replace your DS3, this isn't worth the money 30 bucks tops, 50 is a ripoff
Hey man since you asked i’ve been subscribed to your channel for many years and enjoy the content, but to be honest with you these third party controller videos do nothing for me and come off as marketing. If there was legitimate interest i could see it but its mostly a big feature on their (to me) not so interesting products. Its nothing against them just my opinion.
Appreciate the input.
Does it work on Xbox?
This one doesn't, there is an OG Xbox version coming soon.
Does sixxasxxis work???
Looks like a switch pro controller
Button home ps3?
The Joe Biden whisper. Noice.
mine ain’t connecting to my ps 3 :(
Try a USB cable.
Do these have hall effect sensors like the original PS3 controllers?
I'm not sure to be honest.
Does this have pressure sensitive buttons?
Yes.
Yeah.
