    I learned how bad I was at pulling a shot of espresso when I went to an unpressurized portafilter for my Gaggia. Been trying a new brand of bean lately and took me a few attempts to find the correct fine grind I needed. Had to watch this video to give me a quick reminder what to look for. 😄

    Did you program the amount of water the machine pushes through the puck, or is this factory setting?

    • @ChristophMarius
      @ChristophMarius 3 года назад +17

      You should definetly Programm the Maschine. I programmed my machine so that on a double shot it Extrakts around 69g of pure water without the portafilter attached. This setting will get me with a 16g dose to the desired parameters of a 2.0 - 2.2 extraction ratio depending on the grind setting and a extraction time between 20 and 30 secs.
      Be aware that programming the right amount of water can be tricky and takes couple of shots. But because I Programm without any portafilter no coffee is wasted. Just hold the middle button until the scale shows the right amount. Pro Tipp: release the Button approximately 5 secs before 69gramms . Good luck!
      One more thing: the dedica is Inherently inconsistent. So if you think you are doing exactly the same thing as the previous shot but the extraction time varies - when your puc prep is the same - the Maschine was the one who was not consistent .

    • @10secondsrule
      @10secondsrule Год назад +2

    Beautiful shot! Both coffee and video.. I have the same machine but don’t know if I can have the same result (a 34gr extraction in 27 sec) with the standard portafilter..

    • @valternogueira5296
      @valternogueira5296 2 года назад

      That might be because the standard portafiller is pressurised, so it will never let you "play arround" like hes doing. It takes a ok coffee, but it will never let you get the best shot possible.

    • @chori.182
      @chori.182 2 года назад

      @@valternogueira5296 fair enough.. also the only setting you can manage in the machine is amount of time for single or double shot, not water flow. So, it pumps for X seconds and depending on the grain size, you get X amount of extraction. With the standard portátil filter I think you get a single shot (~30gr) in less than 10 seconds

      To achieve good extraction, a good rule of thumb is to produce around twice as much espresso as the coffee grounds you put in (in the video 34.7g espresso for 18g ground coffee) within 25 to 30 seconds. You achieve that by tuning your grind size until it's neither too coarse nor too fine.

      This is true in my case. I also got a delonghi and aliexpress botomless 2cups filter and with 14g is enough. Probably 18g is way to much for this filter.

    Why are more expensive grinders used when i can go too fine with my baratza encore? I know a nice grinder is a nice to have but like £400 extra for no reason, for example?
    I also have a Dedica. Thanks

    few questions,
    it looks like you programmed the one shot button because you are clicking it once only, how long did you program it to be , 30 sec? it seemed like it stopped at 27 seconds (even if I program it at 30 sec, the grind size will change the pump time for me for some reason)
    Maybe you program the amount of water not the time ??
    another thing is if I manually control the pump by continuously pressing the button, the flow doesn't immediately stop so I have to stop it few seconds earlier, do you have the same issue?
    thanks :)

    • @MrTr1pE

      Always high for expresso ;)

    • @telurkucing5006
      @telurkucing5006 2 года назад +1

      Depend on roast but darker might better with medium. But high its universal mode for all roast because if too bitter you can adjust extraction time and yield lower than standard

    50 questions about the fine bottomless portafilter, but no answer yet.
    I do not feel like cutting mine off, there must be one you can just buy or am I wrong?
    Why is it such a secret what you are using?

    • @saporob

      the bottomless portafilter is just a big Bullsh** to make "cool" videos on youtube.... you just need an unpressurized filter on your original portafilter. BTW Yes you can buy both on amazon but you need a good grinder to use it...

      You can program how much coffee you want to come out by holding your finger on the cup button and then next time you have a cup of coffee that amount will come out

    You really need to upgrade to a better machine. Not saying that little guy is bad but you're clearly interested enough to justify some serious investment. I had a Rancilio silva (good but very tricky machine) for almost 10 years and one year ago upgraded to an ECM Synchronika. At the time, it felt crazy to spend so much money on it. But every single day, when I wake up and get to use it and drink quality coffee, I think it was the best thing I ever did.

    Great video! I just have some questios, maybe someone can help me. When pressing the single shot, i cant get the shot to come out in more than 15 sec… its 15 sec max… i should be between 25 to 30 sec right? Maybe the double shot will reach that time, but the single one should also take that time?

    • @AbrakadaBaris
      @AbrakadaBaris 10 месяцев назад

      you want to be between 25 and 30 seconds for every shot. The ammount you get out should be double the amount of beans. So if you have 8 grams beans, you want 16 grams of espresso in 25-30 seconds. Same for 14g beans and 28g espresso. The extraction weight can vary around 1-2g, that's not an issue

    This is great! BUT... for the life of me, even at a very fine setting like '8' on my Baratza Encore, I cannot fit 18 grams of coffee in my bottomless portafilter. If I try to force it, I can't even completely fit it on my Delonghi. You seem to have PLENTY of room in your portafilter, I wonder why...
