    mine came with 3 filters. I just drilled a big hole in one of them from the underside. The filter itself is in tact, only doesn't generate artificial preassure anymore... Works like a charm.

    This is our second K-Classic. We had our first one for many years, so when we had to replace it, we wanted nothing else but this exact ruclips.net/user/postUgkxBrV-RbF5Nk0Rlt9i15aao-YMzqzTG8Vf model. We use it for about three people everyday in the morning. The taste and quick brew is one of the reasons we like it so much. There are so many choices of brands of coffee that we would grab what was on sale and test the different brands from there. I would definitely recommend trying different brands of coffee to find the ones you like the most because there are brands that quite frankly taste horrible.

    I have two questions: 1) why not just use the other portafilter? It looks like the tabs are the same, does it not fit? 2) why not just leave that plastic thing out? I'm not sure what function it serves, or even if I would actually want a plastic thing in my portafilter. Couldn't you just leave it out, and leave the screw out? Water would then also come out the screw hole, but if you're catching your shot in one cup that wouldn't be a problem.

    • @MrOfigenko
      @MrOfigenko 3 года назад

      you can, it's just that the coffee will then leak out of the screw hole if you leave the plastic thing out. not a big deal, it's just not pleasant too look at and also a huge problem for your OCD :)

      I agree with you. I'm here because the Black Friday and Cyber Monday deal from Sam's means a lot more people bought this machine. They may be new to espresso, but they are quickly learning the difference between pressurized and non-pressurized baskets. Most are looking for a non-pressurized, non-bottomless two cup basket solution. In other words, people want to have a non-pressurized basket and the original portafilter with the spouts because they don't want the mess of bottomless baskets frequently cause. I would get rid of the plastic insert. If the drip from the screw hole bothered me (and it probably would), I'd find a nut to fit the small screw to cover the hole. I don't see the point of keeping the plastic piece if it's just there to direct the flow. The bigger question is why hasn't De'Longhi figured out that a non-pressurized option is what many people want for this machine? Breville has for theirs.

    • @alinaqirizvi1441

      You can brew traditional espresso, like how it's done in a café, whereas if you use a pressurised basket you don't get the full range of flavour as it's kind of a hacky way to get something that kind of looks like espresso from beans that are stale or too coarse by forcing the water through a tiny pinhole at the bottom of the basket making a jet of 'espresso' that hits the bottom of the inside of the portafilter, forming a crema-like foam, while also restricting the water from exiting the basket and creating a little bit of pressure mimicking what the finely ground beans do in a normal espresso brew

    • @andrewalberti9121
      @andrewalberti9121 4 месяца назад

      With non pressurized filter, you will have to work more, many coffees will have issues, you will waste lot of coffee, you will be forced to buy an expensive grinder, you won't be able to use preground coffee anymore, your shots will not be the same anymore, you will probably lose lot of time, in many occasions you will get your station dirty, but in exchange of all that people convince themselves that they are cool and get so much flavor coming from heaven

      It depends on the density of the bean, lighter roasts and beans grown at high altitude are usually more dense, therefore you can get more grams of coffee in, whereas dark roasted coffee that's grown at lower altitude is less dense and you can't get as many grams in to your basket

      It takes some practice but you get way better, dense foam with this wand. It's a bit of work to replace the wand, I'd say medium difficulty. If you've taken apart electronics in the past it's actually fairly easy and you'd be done in 45 minutes total (taking into account at least two screw-ups). Easiest way would be to remove the instant-throther nossle and secure the rubber piece inside to the wand with a tie-rip like the other dude said. It's just a little less gracious in looks.

    I have the same machine. I get silky foam, but the latte is barely warm. How do I heat up the milk more, without over steaming it? I read that if you plunge the metallic steamer deeper into the milk jug, it will continue heating the milk without foaming it up. Is this true?

    • @kijohnson8793
      @kijohnson8793 Год назад

      for the first 6-8 seconds let your steam wand hover right above the milk line while you hear that "paper tearing" sound, and from there, you can let your wand down into the milk a centimeter or so and let the milk form a vortex. This textures the milk and you can never have too much of it. Do that until the pitcher is too hot to touch, and then you're ready.

      The original wont let you use „espresso fine“ coffee, because the pressure would become too high to let the water trough the small hole. So you have to use pretty ground grinded coffee (like pregrinded from the supermarket) that will not bring you real espresso taste und texture.
      The modified one has not just one hole, the bottom is all of holes that let the water trough. So it is possible to use fine coffee, have the right pressure in the basket und get a real espresso, not just coffee with a fake crema on it.

      Pressurized portafilter can actually balance and factor out a bad or coarser coffee grind. Unfortunately the espresso result has thinner body and not much flavor. I've recently changed to a non-pressurized portafilter and the taste is totally different.

      I just tried and had some filters from a La Pavoni 51mm. Removed the plastic completely and poured a shot. The espresso was flowing from the top as well so that does not work unless the filter is fully compatible with EC685. The filter basket mentioned in the description of this video is also NOT compatible according to the Amazon description of the product.

      There's a comment on another RUclips video that a guy teaches how to fix this. I can't find it right now, but if you google search you might get some results. The TLDR is to put your machine upside down (get the water out first, obviously) and then press the bottom (now up) against the machine itself and at the same time press the button. I did it to my machine and it worked. One piece of advice: after it, just leave the machine on stand-by mode forever, don't use the power button anymore, just leave it "on" and when you need to turn it on, just press one of the top button and it wakes up from stand-by mode.

      Well normal non-pressurised filter baskets don't fit in the normal Dedica portafilter because of the plastic insert, however you can't remove the insert as it would leave an extra screw hole at the bottom of the portafilter, so the solution is to cut the insert to allow a normal basket to fit

    • @MrMarki134

      Espresso is a bit wasteful by nature. Changing grind size needs purging to remove old grounds from the grinder, and many shots are pulled and thrown away when dialing in.
      Most people dump them, i tend to keep them in a spare mason jar, and use them when I'm out of coffee. Though, being such fine grinds of different sized, the coffee I get out of it is never very good.
      Alternatively, you could use those grounds/used coffee to cultivate mushrooms. Mushroom "Seeds" are not very expensive and they grow well on coffee grounds.
