  • Join me for a short session at what is fast becoming a favourite reserve: The Swale!
    On the Isle of Sheppey, this gem is a vast open landscape with marshland, open grasses and beaches attracting a huge array of species, including the occasional rarity.
    In this episode we see some interesting mating-season marsh harrier behaviour along with some other local species.

    Great video, I really like that you are able to capture the birds behavior (like the harriers) on video. I have been really enjoying your content, keep it up!!!!

      Cheers mate ! It’s tough reminding myself to video when there’s action instead of just taking pictures

    Hey Chris, I'm your *Newest Subscriber.* I'm loving all of your birding videos, because you never come across as "one of those know-it-all arseholes"! I'm incredulous that you don't have many more Subscribers/Views than you SHOULD DO! Just as an aside to the bird stuff, have you ever played Professional Rugby? I'm pretty sure I have memories of you in that 'world' back in the day - I.E. "that nose of yours", LOL!!!! xxx

      That’s very kind! Cool place - massively underrated by south east / Kent birders & photographers.

    Hi Chris, I like your videos a lot, so I hope you don't mind this feedback but I think the geese around 1.40 are White-fronted Geese; if you look at them carefully you can see bars across their bellies, white flashes around their bills and they don't have big white patches on their wings like Greylags. There was a large flock of these on the Isle of Sheppey over the winter.

      Absolutely! Very kind. See you out there !

    The issue I have with Sheppey is transport. I don't drive so I'm reliant on public transport and my own two feet to get anywhere.
    I live in London and there are two places I love to go, Dovercourt and Walton on the Naze.
    My main interest is Wading birds so in the winter the Essex coast is fantastic.
    On the impossible list for me is Fetlar on Shetland, it's the best place in the UK to see Red necked Phalarope but it's an absolute nightmare to get to

    • @ChrisGoesWild
      @ChrisGoesWild  Месяц назад

      Yeah that’s a good point! It is tricky. Still not seen a phalarope. Unfortunately the best places are :( have you got someone you can jump in the car with?

    • @ajc1482
      @ajc1482 Месяц назад

      @@ChrisGoesWildweirdly enough a female Red necked Phalarope was spotted at Farlington marsh in Portsmouth recently, that's easy to get to from London but I missed it 😅

    • @ajc1482
      @ajc1482 Месяц назад

      @@ChrisGoesWildand unfortunately not regarding the car thing, there're a few places in Essex that are remote once you get past the public beaches.

    What the hell are those wind turbines doing so close to such a precious ecosystem?

      Good question… if only they were as good as promised !

      The blades shed bisphenols into the surrounding environment in tiny microparticles. These remain in the environment indefinitely where they get ingested by birds and other wildlife, and eventually into us via the food chain. Bisphenols are highly toxic and cause reproductive problems and gender distortion issues. The EU has recently reduced the maximum safe daily intake in via foodstuffs over a thousandfold, though of course you will not see this in the media. Just do a quick search into wind turbines, bisphenols and food legislation and I guarantee that you will be alarmed. We are currently fighting to stop a massive windfarm being built on the banks of a pristine estuary here on the west coast of Ireland.

      @@ChrisGoesWildNot to mention the destruction of native and migrating species by the blades themselves!
