    Good job on the axels, looks nice with a fresh coat of paint on. 👌🏻
    And it’s really cool to see someone from Australia working on an old tgb in my hometown Malmoe…. 🇸🇪
    The Sibbarp beach is not a proper beach, if you’re exploring Sweden you should check out Falsterbo strandbad at some point, it’s around 30 km from your location. It’s 👌🏻🤩
    I hope you guys have a great time in Sweden, and I’m looking forward to see the tgb completed.

    A lot of people have already mentioned but those bearing were not greased properly and will end up failing soon and destroy your stub axle as well. Packing the bearing by hand takes about 10min per bearing to work the grease all through the rollers. It’s less about the amount of grease but making sure you’ve worked it into the right spots.

    Regarding sightseeing i have these tips for you, all in Skåne:
    Glimmingehus - Built in 1499 as a residence for a Danish knight and his family, Glimmingehus is Sweden’s best-preserved medieval chateau. They run a tour every weekday at 14.00, (12 and 14 during weekends). Open 11-16 daily.
    Trelleborgen - A reconstruction of the former Viking castle that King Harald Blåtand erected in the 9th century and which gives the town its name, based on archeological findings at the site in 1988. A popular Viking market is held here every July, staging the dramatic Battle of Trelleborg.
    Foteviken - a fully reconstructed viking village in Höllviken, they host a market June 27th-30th this year.
    Lund cathedral - Built sometime during the 12th century
    In Malmö you should check out the "Disgusting food museum" and challenge your tastebuds. :D

    Well it looks like i'm going for a very cold swim then! What was I thinking 😂
    In regards to the wheel bearings = The bearing housing (hub) itself has approx. 400 grams of grease packed into it to lubricate that bearing according to the service manual.
    Would that not be enough for that roller bearing? As the hub rotates wouldn't that grease lubricate those rollers?
    It's not too late for me to do the entire process again for the third time each but it would be great to here from someone who knows these tgb axles.
    Cheers for all the comments (not the swim ones) and see you for next week's video 🤝

    • @defenda2477
      @defenda2477 5 месяцев назад +9

      Hey mate the problem with the way they are greased is that the bearing will just spin around on top of all that grease in the hub. The grease doesn’t move around inside the hub as the bearing spins, it will just spin on top of all the grease in the hub if you ever pull down old bearings the grease inside the bearings will be black and the grease in the hub Center will be usually pretty good in comparison. When you pack bearings you need to force grease all the way through into the inner race of the bearings. In other words the grease you physically put in the bearings is the only grease that will be in the bearings, No grease will enter from the center hub,I’d personally watch a couple videos on packing bearings and you will see what I mean. Also are these hubs oil filled or just grease filled if they have oil in them it’s another kettle of fish? Anyway mate just my thoughts I’m a heavy diesel mechanic and don’t want to see you run into dramas when the bearings run hot.

    • @bezerk1736
      @bezerk1736 5 месяцев назад +4

      Sorry to say but you need to pull apart and pack em properly.. saw thru the video after I originally made a comment that you had to pull apart a 2nd time for the wheel cylinder alignment, sucks to do again but if u dont you'll be doing it on the side of the road one at a time and end up with damaged stub axles or welded bearings to em with the heat.. should be easy now anyways with all the practice.. good luck.

      @defenda2477 gave quite a good summary.
      ruclips.net/video/BhL1uAp_WCw/видео.html
      have a look at this short clip.
      If a bearing is running on grease (not oil) this how they need to be packed. Grease is to hard/sticky to actually make it in.
      If you can still reach it I'd redo this. If impossible I'd buy a set of bearings on spare and prepare for a next rebuild ;)

  • @defenda2477
    @defenda2477 5 месяцев назад +32

    Hey mate probably need to pack those bearings a bit better on the stub axle, smearing grease around the outside isn’t the way to do it as the grease won’t be on the inside of the bearing. Get a needle end for a grease gun and inject it in if you cannot pack by hand. What grease you put into the bearings is pretty well all it’s going to get as the grease inside the hub will not really be doing much for the bearings in terms of lubricating the bearings

    • @odinh89
      @odinh89 5 месяцев назад +3

      100%. I was devastated when I watched him do that. His going to have to pull all of them out and apart again. I’m not familiar with a needle end for a grease gun but pulling out all those bearings and packing them is a massive effort. But less effort than replacing a failed stub shafts on the side of the road

      @@odinh89 - I'm assuming the bearings aren't in oil - couldn't recall in strip down if oil was on the outer hub. But agree that ain't how you pack a bearing - hope Chris works it out before to much further - if not in oil catastrophic failure is coming.

    Following your rebuild. Very Nice work. I have a Pinzgauer and a Land-Rover FC101
    In the previous episode (time 49:00 minute) you mentioned you cleaned/polished the inside of the brake drums. Perhaps it was not literally polished. I might interpret you wrong.
    I was taught than when fitting new brake shoes, to check the inside diameter of the drum-brake to ensure they are with in spec and you have enough material. I believe yours will certainly be good.
    Then take the drums to a brake shop or engineering works to have the inside of the skimmed on the lathe. That ensure "roundness" and a proper surface for the new brake pads to bed in.
    Not trying to critique. Just think polishing a brake surface is not the best (if I understood it correctly)
    Perhaps just double check on that as it is a critical safety thing for you and family.
    Keep up the build. It's very exciting. 👍

    A trick with new hard brake lines is to tighten them fully, back off a half to full turn, then retighten them. I have found over the years, it seems to prevent them from leaking once you start bleeding everything. Before I started doing things this way, I used to get leaks at most of the fittings. I almost get none to leak after doing it this way. Good luck!

I only found 1 video in wich is mentioned, and there is a big noise on top of the voice when the the guy explains what that small radiator is for!

    Once the weather gets a bit better later in May/June you should defenitely do a weekend drive East along the coast to Ystad and then Kivik in "Österlen". Beautiful area with rolling hills, apple orchards, beaches and just beautiful scenery (by Swedish standards). Nimis Arx in Höganäs/Mölle is also cool.
    Also. Will you be exploring Sweden/Norway once the Volvo is done or will you be driving south into central Europe?

    Kudos to you guys for having such a positive attitude while adjusting to your new environment in Sweden.
    Chris, you're doing a great job learning as you go along rebuilding the rig. You could addopt a new saying for the Outfit Shop.

    Keep up the good attitude and take a family break from time to time...

    Can't You see the difference of a Swan and a Geese.? When You have that Volvo ready, and You are here in Scandinavia, the first Trip You should take, is to drive along the Norwegian coast all the way between the Russian Border & the Sweedish Border, ore take the ferry from south part of Norway to Denmark, I asume You are going to ship the car from Hamburg ore Bermen to USA.? You can drive North thru Sweeden--Finland--Norway ( Kalix-Torneå-Rovaniemi-Utsjok)

    I live in Malmö, and I agree with you that large parts of it is actually quite ugly. Unfortunately during the 1960 there was a huge hysteria in tearing down old buildings in order to modernize. In ten years they tore down and built homes for more than one million people. In some cities 70-80% of buildings were torn down. What they built up instead of the old beautiful buildings were cheap and ugly concrete housings, but at least the standards were higher.
    If you are in to older stuff Lund or Helsingborg is a better visit.

    Ahh yes france and Englishis even worse than Germany and English......
    so ive been to Pforzeim and strasbourg in 2018 whilst Sweden beat out Germany in the WC which was insane.
    i have never seen so many Ambulances arrive in a town of the size of Pforzeim as i saw that afternoon.
    they had never had so many strokes and heart attacks as that day.
    The people were still very good sports about it and we had a wonderfull time.
    Whilst the germans spoke poor english the french of my own age 20-30+ spooke none.
    not the best time to have low bloodsugar and trying to mimic my way to a resturant .
    and the French parking level was of the Ace Ventura in africa level.
    I dont understand how the French could have a army marhish at the same direction with the cars parking ive seen....
    best regards.
    PS Lund is close by malmö with alot more historical sights.
    And i do reccomend Bohuslän north of gothenburg especially the Kungälv Stenungsund, Tjörn and Orust area in the late spring early summer time.
    there is ample historical museums and art museums like the Akvarell Museum and Pilane art fields on Tjörn in the summer.
    Tanum is another intresting area with carvings from the olden times and the Nordens ark is uniqe with its animal protection programme
    Bohuslän is regarded as one of the most beautfull areas in the world and its easy to see why.

    You might have already done the other bushings, but if not a German couple have a channel LR Time, and they show in detail how they remove the old bushings from their Landies. Apparently having a drill bit with sharp edges helps. In one of their recent uploads, they show step by step what they do and also mention the bit they use. Requires a vice, so that would be a late night for you. The upload is ruclips.net/video/3lGsfB4pyts/видео.html
    Hope it helps, I enjoyed this episode 😀

    I tried and found the real trick is to put the tip of the blue flame right on the race it really makes a difference. The first time I did it I had the tip of the blue flame like 1 cm away and it took four times as long.Here is removal from long axel ruclips.net/user/shortsbqKmvhbh1eY?si=tL-KOvtFgz7cl1oe I did not use a bearing (I did not have one) but screwed a screw through a piece of wood and balanced it on that .
