One hater with the thumbs down... Damn shame. Bastid is not only one of the best turntablists out there, he is a nice dude as well. Whoever gave the thumbs down challenge him to a battle. I dare ya.
Two years late on this but its the noise freq on the time code vinyl. You can select it if you select thru mode. But you probably figured this out already lol
Great vid! This has got to be the best crab tutorial out there. So many of these vids with people showing off and not helping at all!!! Also, I broke my hand 12 years ago and my little finger is out of line. Was good to hear you struggle with four fingers too. I chuckled lots at 2:25...driving not only myself mad, but also my fiance downstairs with garbled morse code!!! Thanks Mr Bastid!
Before I get grilled for this - DJ Angelo's is fantastic. They both are. I'm paranoid about having a bent out of shape right hand and a finger that points the wrong angle. He struck a nerve when said he has the same problem. Both videos are good!!!
David Gee my right hand is f@cked up to due to an old injury ive allways had problems with the crab scratch due to the fact my fingers are not very flexible on that hand .the joints lock up to much. its sucks having a jacked up hand being a scratch dj.
Wassup Skratch Bastid! I just saw you yesterday for Q&A at BJIOS! I'm practicing the crab right now, and BTW, this is DJ Mamba. I'm only 12 years old attempting to achieve a new skratch in my arsenal: The Crab Skratch! See ya soon DJSkratchBastid!!
Definitely gonna practice more. I cant seem to get it down. I put resistance with my thumb but cant seem to get it to open and close like that even with adjusting the pressure....oh well practice makes perfect
Same! Just need to keep practicing. My dominant fader hand is on the left and I chopped the end of my index finger off when I was a kid - if there's a will there's a way!
I'm from Russia and almost do not speak English). But you are very interesting to show how and what you need to do. Thank you. I look with pleasure. I respect and peace)).
hey good tutorial. du you know any good sample-libary for scrathing? (free download pls) i mean no samples with scratch sounds, i mean samples wich you can use as a base to scrath like the "ah yeah"
DJ bastid is a good DJ n good mixer n a truntablelist a cool humble dude he just trying to show the new DJ comic up how to do different scratch to the new generation that want to get into turntable n learn how to scratch n mix too n to do that you need to love the truntable you got to have to love for it. I been doing this since 89s until now 2021 n I'm going to died doing scratch mix n using turntable for life I'm a old DJ n I collect turntable n record I love the art of it n see different DJ doing crazy shit on the truntable n I like to see that you need to love the truntable first n it make you better if you learn how to mix n scratch whit real vinyl records to those that what to learn n just practice now n day they got scratch DVD that show you how to scratch by DJ Q Bert DVD the first one show you how to learn different style n is clear to see from different angles back on my time they did not have DVD so I could learn I learn by listening to the radio back in the 80s but it was a basic scratch not all this scratch we got now n day n I know how to DJ n mix n scratch n I still watch that DVD to learn more n more that how cool is that DVD by DJ Q Bert check it out if y'all want to learn how to scratch mix
ok so now that you have said all that how exactley is the set up in order to do the actual crab ..like how is the cross fader set up full cut scratch etc what are the settings
Thanks for the tutorial. Its difficult for me and very frustrated im ok when its separated step 1 Perfect step 2 the back ok but endlessly i feel à problem as you said with the thumb pressure and the balance.
Correct DJ Excel from the UK pioneered the twiddle and has been credited with inventing this scratch. Q Bert saw him demonstate this in Japan, took the initial concept and went away to create the crepe (crab) scratch
Off tha fader I got it, but on tha fader but thumb just don’t wanna push back to tha off position...I can transform, cut. Scribble n all...But this scratch is and will eventually kill me...48 years old n still trying
Holy mother of… 😳 I’m here barely able to baby, chirp, and transformer scratch… I think it’s hard bc of my little console I definitely need to upgrade bc I think the scratches are tight on an SB2…
What settings did you mess with? I have the curve maxed up for scratching. is there anything else i need to do? Also the problem with mine is that i am unable to hear the repititions. When i attempt the crab the sample plays once only. Its very frustrating. Can you help?
I found it easier to do the crab scratch when my fader is reversed, but all my other scratches feel better with it the fader regular. I know practice makes perfect, but I’m all about doing what feels natural. Any tips?
Whatever works for you... that's DJing..we need more orginal style. I just recently watched a scratch battle and everything sound the same each person crab scratching
Big brother they picking on me cause I need lesson to cut!!!! I put your name on my official sites of one of the baddest dj's I have rane mk 12 and S11 Maschine studio Maschine Jam 14 creates of records and beat thang and it's hard to do it all!!!!

Best explanation. No one explains the thumb pressure!
One hater with the thumbs down... Damn shame. Bastid is not only one of the best turntablists out there, he is a nice dude as well. Whoever gave the thumbs down challenge him to a battle. I dare ya.
Zebo Word up!
People hate because they hate themselves
If there’s one thing a hater can’t stand it’s a winner. And bastid is a winner.
I'll fight the hater in the street.
Tried The Crab Scratch on girlfriend, big success!!
Torben Rudgaard noice. They also like transformer scratches too. And 2 click flares
If you are having to scratch her crabs you need to get her a fine comb and some special shampoo
Torben Rudgaard yeah fucker
Almost Qbert😂
😂😂😂😂😂
2:28 So where did you find this sound sample ??
Two years late on this but its the noise freq on the time code vinyl. You can select it if you select thru mode. But you probably figured this out already lol

DJ Angelo's is better
Before I get grilled for this - DJ Angelo's is fantastic. They both are. I'm paranoid about having a bent out of shape right hand and a finger that points the wrong angle. He struck a nerve when said he has the same problem.

David Gee my right hand is f@cked up to due to an old injury ive allways had problems with the crab scratch due to the fact my fingers are not very flexible on that hand .the joints lock up to much. its sucks having a jacked up hand being a scratch dj.
but the best u can do is learn to overcome it.
New to djng, thanks for the lessons...💯
Thanks for these videos. Never really been able to scratch. I got the fingers down but just can't nail the thumb resistance.
definitely one of the best schools i've known (and im not talking of just scratching or music ones)

Any tips for hampster style crabs?
Such great detail and thorough description! Glad I looked this up, really helped a lot
You are amazing bro! Do you think certain turntables are horrible for trying to do some of these types scratches on? What slip mats would you suggest?
What about crab with the non dominant hand on the fader and the dominant hand moving the record?
hey good tutorial. du you know any good sample-libary for scrathing? (free download pls) i mean no samples with scratch sounds, i mean samples wich you can use as a base to scrath like the "ah yeah"
Man ...appreciate this much..explained very well

Top notch master !!'
Hello! I hope you see this-- can you PLEASE add the tracks used?

Great vid Scratch Bastard
Just starting to get it! Cant pratice this too much as my hand starts to cramp up! Probably using to much force
I was always told that a 2 finger is called a "twiddle". is that worng?
nope
Correct DJ Excel from the UK pioneered the twiddle and has been credited with inventing this scratch. Q Bert saw him demonstate this in Japan, took the initial concept and went away to create the crepe (crab) scratch
Creation Rebel A crap and twiddle combo is kool if you execute it well 👍
its a twiddle
Can the 2 finger crab also be a 2 click flare?
So use to doing it the old school way with out crab
Off tha fader I got it, but on tha fader but thumb just don’t wanna push back to tha off position...I can transform, cut. Scribble n all...But this scratch is and will eventually kill me...48 years old n still trying
Dope stuff man! :)
Thanks for the upload I like the vid
Excellent explanation, as always.
The technique is very similar to raguaedo strumming in flamenco guitar
Holy mother of… 😳 I’m here barely able to baby, chirp, and transformer scratch… I think it’s hard bc of my little console I definitely need to upgrade bc I think the scratches are tight on an SB2…
what about the crossfader doesn't this have a huge impact how the scratch ultimately sounds? I got a magvel fader and i don't get the same result..??
theabstrakt84 had the same problem til I messed with my crosfader settings
What settings did you mess with? I have the curve maxed up for scratching. is there anything else i need to do? Also the problem with mine is that i am unable to hear the repititions. When i attempt the crab the sample plays once only. Its very frustrating. Can you help?
Yo Iv been trying to learn scrabs as a open fader technique and pulling my hair out 🤣 Jumped the gun a bit.
is the main difference between 2 crab and 2 click orbit the rhythm?
Joshua Langford Intresting question thou i will research the answer.
you sir, have vinyls worth a house in your library!
nice!! yes 4 finger seems lot harder
best shown
I found it easier to do the crab scratch when my fader is reversed, but all my other scratches feel better with it the fader regular. I know practice makes perfect, but I’m all about doing what feels natural. Any tips?
The Juiced I get the crab scratch Sound by tapping really fast all my fingers are connected
Whatever works for you... that's DJing..we need more orginal style. I just recently watched a scratch battle and everything sound the same each person crab scratching

Flavor Flav - "Yeeeeahhhh Booooyyyeee!"
Legend of the game - my mickey mantle with a turntable !!!! Cant fuck with the Bastid period .........
Should give credit where credit is due. DJ Q-Bert inventor of the crab scratch
Big brother they picking on me cause I need lesson to cut!!!! I put your name on my official sites of one of the baddest dj's I have rane mk 12 and S11 Maschine studio Maschine Jam 14 creates of records and beat thang and it's hard to do it all!!!!
I scratch hamster style, fader open first then start snapping the fingers.

Just can't get my mind into gear with the motion of the crossfader
oh Mygod 💖 i lieke
I suggest giving credits to the one who invented it.. right?😊
It’s difficult. The thumb needs to be relaxed at the right point.
This is so hard to do
