You had a "drill" video that basically tripled my skill in one night, somehow I was able to replicate the sounds you were making by thinking more about matching your sound than the mechanics of my fingers. I'd love to see a section of these videos that is more of a drill for each section and combine each section over time!
what I'm not understanding is wtf is the filter fade doing. Still feel like there's gatekeeping on the big secret there. I scratch with that fader but it does nothing lol. What am I missing
Why are all dj controller companies putting all of the buttons at the bottom instead of thae top that you can bring the jog wheels down more in line with the cross fader? Then put your pitch controll on the top on the edge of the controller.
Seriously bro I can’t thank you enough for helping me to learn something I’ve wanted to do since I was like 8. I’ve had my 1000srt for almost a year. I practice at least 3 hours a day, and when I dj at the strip club I’ll play them their music one one channel while practice on the other channels with my headphones. Much respect man, this is seriously the hardest thing I’ve ever tried to get good at.

I have been a DJ for over 40 years, both on Radio and Live Events and I have never scratched. After watching your tutorial, I feel comfortable trying it. Thank you.
Omg! At last someone breaks down and explains this scratch....been trying to do this for over 20 years! I can not thank you enough....I know my scratches as I've been into hip-hop since the begining of the 80's it's just some I've never been able to work out... Seriously you have no idea how much this has helped me....
@@priyonjoni It was an enormous help....no one has properly broken or down and also said the scratch names of what they are doing... Seriously, I can't thank you enough
I think I'm close to getting this combo down! Can you do a video of how we can use this combo when going into another song? It would be great to learn different ways to apply this during a gig.
KDAY Mixmasters in 1984, Joe Cooley scratch, a lot of guys were doing it at that same time. I first heard it with Mixmaster Tony G and Jammin Gemini, both of them also KDAY Mixmasters. It's basically a Chirp, Scribble, Tear, combo, but lots of variations of this scratch.
Your Chance to Rock is definitely a great example, but Joe Cooley was only doing stabs and forwards in Everlasting Bass. It didn’t have that signature continuous tear/scribble that defines the Joe Cooley scratch.
Nice break down, easily the most valuable transition pattern for any scratch arsenal. Even at slower tempos like (Trap beats ect 70-75bpm) at a double timed speed it sounds really dope. Great details & instructional video this is very easy to follow and practice along with. Thanks for sharing this.
bro, the way you explained this, I can understand. Im a 50 year old dj. I started djing in 1988-89 when i was 17 years old. I have always wanted to learn some scratches. Thank you
My dear, very good, your Scratch class. I would like if you could provide me with the effect you use to make that Scratch to practice. I am starting out as a DJ. Please
You have explained this technique the best I have ever seen. How long do you think one needs to spend doing this in order to be at least half decent lol.
@pri yon joni sir, Thank you for all the help and videos over these pass few months I have learned alot and will be a life time follower of yours. you tutorials are complete and easy to follow keep up the outstanding job sir.
Awesome tutorial 👍 can you possibly breakdown this scratch by DJ flip side at 0.50 secs ruclips.net/video/Tl512oyq5sI/видео.html I’ve got the the record hand movement down but I’m struggling with the fader hand. It looks like all transformer scratches but I’m not sure. He’s doing it at around 128 bpm.
A year ago I went to the conservatory of music in Wisconsin for my dj SKULL my name methods brought me here 👍💯 I be weathering with Dj CREAM CRUSH she 12 & dj ANTELOPE he 13 is like a 9 hour session there Thanks
I’ve been a DJ for about 5 years now, 100s of hours practicing baby, stabs, chirps, beat juggling, crab scratch, 😮orbits, and 1 click and 2 click flares. I wish I started with this scratch. This is literally the only scratch you need to know, unless you are going to be a battle DJ. I am today years old when I found this.
Brother. Greet tutorials as always and mad skill set ! 2 questions. 1. Do you notice a very slight pause when you scratch and release on the FLX6? 2. Do you know of (or have) those UGD macbook cases? 13"?
Excellent step by step ... 👍 Now A lil off topic. I actually like cutting on the FLX6 for some reason lol. Maybe the weight of the wheels that gives a nice backspin?lol Sooo Have you noticed a pause or delay sometimes when you release the jog wheel at the end of a scratch or juggling?
Wow this video is awesome.... 👍👍👍 Thanks for sharing sir... And im planning to buy that toy... But, I don't have an idea if how much is that.... Thank you sir and godbless to you
FUCK YES. I've been working on the Joe Cooley for a week and couldn't get it until watching this video and I got it first try. Bringing the pain now bro.
You be a life saver. If u could do a short vid on how to use the FLX6. Mergefx. And beat fxs have moved to a bar. I’m lost. After having an. Sb2. Sb3. Thanks. Keep up good work. I do love the flx. But I’m kinda lost.
a bit of history... the "Ahhhhh, this stuff is really fresh" originally appeared on Fab 5 Freddy's 12" single "Change the Beat" in 1982. It appeared at the end of the song on the B-side of the record. Of course, the rest is history.
Hey man, I'm trying to scratch a bit with my Mixtrack primo. It's only a cheap controller as you're aware but I'm finding the jog wheels a little slick in use, you got any tips to help me have a bit more traction? I'm used to having to wet my fingers on a turntable but this is a lot worse for me. I don't wanna hide behind the you can't scratch on a controller bs anykretgo wanna be able to cut on anything 😁 any help appreciated
Being a older fella I’m saying 50 sum of these scratch techniques are damn near impossible cuz unless their clean they sound ass.So I try to only transformer at it is the hardest for me to sound dope and lil chirps stabs etc but with a fresh blend u can take their minds let’s be honest regular crowds aren’t into turntablism. So I can get away with very lil turntablism with sum super fresh blends.
I would think Joe koolie scratch is better well known in Eric b and rakim move the crowd. Im from New York city and I was there from the beginning when songs were not on vinyl and you had to go to a party or block party to see or hear them. Came a long way.
You can do this with any combo or skratch. The delayed 2 click flare but stop or pause on the transform part on the pull back. Starting closed ending closed. Just the 2 click glare has 6 starting position. 2 open 4 closed fader. Soooooo much to learn!!

What is a filter fade?
Why are all dj controller companies putting all of the buttons at the bottom instead of thae top that you can bring the jog wheels down more in line with the cross fader? Then put your pitch controll on the top on the edge of the controller.
This is the Serato/Rekordbox standard. Most controller DJs prefer it there. That is based on research.

Really!!! I’m new to DJ about a year and enjoy it but I want to learn scratching but I’m fearful so I’m watching videos.

Appreciate the lesson on Joe Coolie Scratch Fam ...Gonna Start Practicing
No problem! Look forward to hearing it!
Joe Cooley himself sent me here. Great job.
Bruh you’re not gonna mention Everlasting Bass or Your Chance to Rock? Doubt any of these kids know who Joe Cooley is.
Your Chance to Rock is definitely a great example, but Joe Cooley was only doing stabs and forwards in Everlasting Bass. It didn’t have that signature continuous tear/scribble that defines the Joe Cooley scratch.

Thanks for the video! This is the most I've learned from a scratch video. I have a question tho. How do I get those scratch effects?
This is explanation on scratching I needed, thank you!
I started using the volume instead of fader to manage the scratch sound or cut. Is this normal too?
My dear, very good, your Scratch class. I would like if you could provide me with the effect you use to make that Scratch to practice. I am starting out as a DJ. Please
Thought it was preowned Johnny 😂
So I got a question.... When scratching... Do u set the crossfader to gradually fade out, or only have the music cut when it's all the way over?
I never learned the names of scratches or what I'm doing I just made it happen by ear. It seems smart to be intentional like this but somehow harder
So you only scratch over a regular song by using a 2nd track that has "scratch sounds"??? This is lame :/
Joe Cooley is my cousin. That’s ill he has a technique named after him.
that FLX6 looks soo goood why couldn't it have xlr outputs :(
I got my DDJ 200 yesterday on New Year’s Eve
I keep watching you guys videos and I never see where the “scratch mixes” are located
