I’m a classically-trained musician who, until I saw this, knew next-to-nothing about this music or what DJs do. But I know high art when I see and hear it. This is just as impressive to me as a gifted pianist performing a Rachmaninoff concerto. Anybody who says otherwise doesn’t love music first.

A real "classic", instrument musician always admits skilled and talented djs
So you sir said it. I'm also a dj (used to throw some gigs back in the days, now just hobby), played the piano and harmonica, so I can compare djing to playing an instrument. Sure, simply doing a beatmatch, fading two tracks togeather is not an art. When you realize that phrase matching is also important, thats where youre getting into it, then start mixing in key, after it you realize that playing with keys when djing is fun, start harmonic mixing (learning and maximally utilising the Camelot scale), then you can call yourself a dj, but still, you are a beginer. In other words, a "type one civilization", this guy is a "type four" 🥳

The amount of musicianship that comes from this guy is incredible. He's able to combine classic disc scratching with modern day sampling to create multiple styles of music (there are examples of ambience, hard rock, hip hop, and modern day house in the video). And it's more than just standing up on the booth, pressing some buttons, moving some sliders, and so on...he's showing actual technique. You can see it in how he finds certain scratch points in the samples along with his hand movements, mainly his right hand. There's also an aspect of training the musical ear since he's aligning at least two tracks while attempting to modify one of them via scratching on the fly. What he's doing just seems really incredible to me.
