This was a few months after graduating high school for me. I camped out at the back of a Walmart with a couple of friends who were getting the system at midnight. I was going with the Gamecube a couple of days later so I didn’t get an Xbox at launch but soon after won one from Taco Bell! The Halo LAN parties with 3 TVs and systems in one dorm room were epic!

Your Dad's video recordings and the effort put in to edit on modern hardware it is really special. Even though the tech is more accessible to record video now.. no one is really recording long form simple candid moments. Instead opting for overly filtered 10 second grabs that don't feel authentic at all.

I got an Xbox at Christmas in 2002 when I was 8. It was the first Christmas after my parents divorced. We unwrapped it at our house with mum and it had Blinx the Timesweeper with it. Later that day we went to where my dad was staying and got Fifa, Obiwan and Music Maker. It wasn't for another year that we got Halo though we had played the demo over and over until we got it.

I first saw the Xbox when I was living in Japan, in 2001. It was on display with a Dead or Alive 3 trailer playing. I was amazed at the graphics! I didn't get to play it until I came back to the states in 2002, but DoA3, Jet Set Radio Future, Munch's Oddysee and Halo were the first games I was able to get. All of them blew my mind, but there was something definitely special about Halo. We were in our 20's, but I remember my friends and I all sitting in front of the TV like kids, it was so great!

Man this is making me feel old...I was 20 when the first Halo hit. I was there from the very beginning and I haven't missed an Xbox console launch since the first one dropped. This includes the Xbox Series X. I did the exact same thing for each and every Halo release and I will be in front of my GameStop for this one as well. Now, if you'll excuse me I'm running through the MCC on our Series X while cutting it with some Halo Infinite Multiplayer Beta for good measure.
Excellent video as always my friend! I always get hit with reams of nostalgia when I watch them. Especially because my dad was and is still a gamer today. We did the exact same kind of thing you and your dad did right down to being huge Sega fans. Although we didn't do the MAC stuff. You and your dad are true gaming heroes, because you achieved something I wish I did back in elementary school when I first got introduced to Halo, to record it and relive it like in your video, although I didn't play Halo in the original Xbox, I was aware of the existence of the game franchise, I saw the commercials form the 1st and 2nd game, and my introduction to my infinite curiosity of who was Master Chief was when I got into a Blockbuster and sae the gargantuan promotion statue of Master Chief from Halo 2 as well as the large piles of game copues and the Joyride figures, for 3 years I was wondering," What is Halo?, Who is this guy with cool armor?, & most of all, What is this story about?" But then in the far 2007, back in my days of elementary school, a friend of mine invited me to.his house to play this game, and in the transcourse to his house he had in his hands a Gaming magazine and a copy of the mad magazine, he and his mom ordered a large Pepperoni pizza and while waiting he started on his Xbox 360, put in a disk, and then my life changed when finally after years of expeculation and of seeing still images for years, I heard the soundtrack, the main theme that made me say, "WHOAAAAA, Great scott, IS THIS HOW HALO SOUNDS LIKE?" From that moment on, I found myself trapped into the universe of Halo, finally a game that put together all.my love for Sci-fi videogames, mixed with all the elements of the movies I grew up with, it was Aliens, Predator, a bit of Star Trek and Star Wars, and great sense of adventure. In resume: Halo changed my life forever and even with the 343 controversail state and administration of the franchise, I will always be thankful to getting into the vast Halo universe and I regret nothing of feeling that.

I think Halo for it's time, it was undeniably groundbreaking for consoles and gaming in general. I only played this one version, ever. I think the most wow factor for me was the grass, yes, the grass LOL. When Master chief was walking around, and the grass came up to view really close to him, it was so detailed, I was like, wow, I've never seen anything like this before lol. Everything else was ok, I guess it wasn't for me, I actually spent more time on Dead or Alive 3, Capcom vs Marvel 2 before my Xbox died. It inhabits so much of my memories, it solidified a lifelong friendship/brotherhood with my oldest friend who I played Halo with all of high school up all night, silent cartographer to assault of the control room to the Library stoned off our asses. I've spent a lot of time with this game.. I was a Nintendo kid and had the gamecube in 2001 but ended up getting the xbox a few years after. Got Halo with it but I couldn't remember much from it. So probably about 10 years ago I got my original Xbox out for the first time in years and played through the entire game and I just remember being so immersed in it.. then I got the Halo CE anniversary and played through that. That is an amazing remaster.

I vividly remember being introduced to halo in 2007 when the 3rd game was (being) released. But I didn’t start getting into it consistently until I saw my cousin had a copy of halo anniversary. I was unaware that it was the first game in the series just remastered. I played it, and I was sucked into the epic level designs, memorable dialogue, interesting characters, colorful graphics, bombastic music, and the various weaponry. Halo is one of those games where I can play it for decades, remember all the levels, dialogue, and still never get tired of it. That is how classic and powerful halo CE is. Since then I dug more and more into the franchise followed by halo 2, and beyond. I also remember wanting an og Xbox for years. And I eventually received one for Christmas one year with the og halo with it. I eventually worked my way up to play it on legendary, and years later I finally beat it. It was a rewarding sensation. Halo has changed my life and has showed me video games with a refreshing perspective. Long live Xbox, long live the chief!

All your videos.... home videos - I don't even know you... are a nostalgia trip for me. Pretty sure we're the same age. Watched the actual footage of your dad giving you the xbox and I think you said you were a sophomore on 11-15-01.... so was i. So pretty much your home videos transports me back to that exact time period. So while definitely not an "in your shoes" moment... my parents definitely didn't buy me pretty much every console under the sun once they were released... I can definitely recall those moments in time from your perspective - because i was the same age as you in your videos. Definitely makes me feel old.

I can still remember to this day when my brother and I discovered Halo. We had just got the Xbox and decided to go to Blockbuster to rent some games. We found Halo because it looked interesting and we fell in love with it! I’ll never forget we did multiplayer to beat that game. Those are great memories that I cherish. To this day my brother will get out the Xbox and boot up Halo CE. Thanks for the awesome video!

Seriously BLEW me away, I played it at Gamestop(or actually I think it was Electronics Boutique) and it was sooo incredible that I HAD to have it and got one for Christmas(thankfully) and I've loved Xbox ever since. Man I really wish you would have reacted to the Halo Anniversary event like all the other RUclipsrs because I know you have love for Xbox and that just gave me a Nostalgia overload. Your dad is awesome. Also can we just take a second to appreciate not only how great of a console the original Xbox was, but how AMAZINGLY built it was! Those consoles never broke down, they don't damage on the exterior, and there are still soo many original Xboxes that are untouched/modified that still work perfectly without changing anything. Like yeah maybe someone's hard drives could die like any HDD, but they just lasted unlike PS3s or 360s(damn Red Ring of Death).

You are just a few years older than me buddy. I love your videos. I wish my dad was more like yours but we all can't be gamers and collectors! I was born in 90. Never owned an NES but spent half of my childhood on my SNES. Unfortunately my family never branched out past the Nintendo consoles. Until, we finally upgraded to a PS2 in the early 2000's when my brother got word of the new Microsoft console. Some of my best memories of my life were on my original Xbox. Although I didn't get one on launch day, I was introduced a few months after. My fist set of games included Halo, Return To Castle Wolfenstein, and Unreal Tournament. Halo became a regular in my rotation with my close friends but things changed when Xbox live came out. I was one of the first subscribers to their new online gaming service. Before I knew it, I was at my local gaming store (GameXcrazy) asking my mom to buy me an Xbox live microphone. There were very few people online at first. The service was $50 annually at the time (A bit expensive for some). It was normal to run into the same person multiple times in one day even being spread throughout the world at the time. I had friends in Germany, Australia, Finland, Scotland... you name it. Playing was the next best thing to traveling the world (at least to me). It opened my eyes to a world I didn't know existed outside of my NJ suburbia. Xbox live forced me out of my reclusive gaming life and made me realize that gaming could be a lot more social than I would ever imagine. Instead of going to a therapist after school, I would jump online and vent out the frustrations of the day to my online friends. They would always accept and understand whatever I was going though, and vice versa. I'm forever grateful for the friends I made online and I have to thank Microsoft for getting me though some of the hardest times in my teenage life.

My parents had divorced and my brother and i had moved across the country with my mom in early 2001. My brother got the xbox on launch as a sort of "sorry" gift. I ended up taking the xbox over and played an insane amount of this game, and absolutely was obsessed with halo for the next 10 years or so. I recently got a system with a duke controller, and playing it on the original hardware gave me flashbacks unlike anything I had experienced before. It kept me going and kept my mind of everything else that was happening around me at the time. And it still feels amazing to play even today.

Halo will always have a special place in the heart of every REAL gamer.

    Great video!
I was 23 years old when Halo CE came out.
Id had just about every console released up until Xbox was releasing, I had PlayStation and N64 and Dreamcast. I thought I didn't need another console? My bother bought Xbox at launch with Halo and DOA3
But he always liked to watch me play. So when we powered it up he let me play 1st.
OMG Within 5 to 10mins of playing the game I had to have my own Xbox and Halo.
It blew me away and flawed me. I was heavily into Music as well back then, Learning Guitar and listening to lots of Metal/Classical and orcestral music. Halo music is without a doubt the greatest game music ever made in my eyes.
I think I finished Halo over a 100 times before Halo 2 came out. I was obsessed, I already thought I was a gaming nut before I played Halo. It took my obsession to new levels...
I shit you not, It had almost same impact on my friends, To this day I am obsessed with Halo. They all went out and got a Xbox for Halo.
I had that one friend who was Playstation crazy and he said he didn't need any other console. Until he played Halo.
Then the Lan Parties began. It was a glorious time for me as a gamer!
Right now Halo Infinite is getting that same love... So much fun! Oh boy that grappling hook is a game changer for Halo

I didn't have an Xbox at launch but my good friend did and we had a ton of fun playing Halo multiplayer with our friends. Halo had the best graphics that I had seen in a console game when it came out and the soundtrack is also part of what made the game so awesome. A few years later I downloaded the Halo PC demo and played that online a lot and that was a blast. Shortly after that, I got the Xbox on Christmas of '03 and Halo 2 wound up being the first Halo game that I purchased for the system and I played countless hours of Halo 2 multiplayer with my friends over the local network in my college dorm

Just top quality content as always. I never had an Xbox - was outraged by the controller at the time, I was on ps2 and playing online with it which was quite rare (nobody I knew was doing it) but it got my blood pumping for competitive fps games and I jumped on the 360 when it released and have remained mainly an Xbox player since. I know your 360 was the last console your pops bought for you and for me it was the first gift my girlfriend and now wife bought for me so it holds some meaning
