  • Canon have been good enough to give us some hands on time with the new 18-80mm T4.4 cinema lens. A perfect balance of price and performance, offering owner operators a general all purpose lens designed for 4K video production.

    Interesting initial view. Still working in HD but looking at the strategy for the next few years 4K is squarely there. This review clearly puts this lens into the upgrade frame although I am used to working with rather faster still lenses so would need to try T4.4 out over a number of projects before I am convinced. Keep them coming. Mark

      Glad your finding the videos useful.
      Its a great lens, currently there isn't much competition for an all purpose 4K ready video lens that doesn't break the bank.
      I think its a strong contender. Its between this, the Sony 18-110mm or the Zeiss 21-100mm at the moment really.

    Hey Carl, I'm looking to purchase the new Canon c200 and I'm in need of good cine zooms, however, I'm not looking at the more pricey options. Which do you think will be a better set of lenses, the new Sigma 18-35 and 50-100 t2 cine zooms or Canon's 18-80 and 70-200 t4.4.

    i really thought you were going to say at 1:11 'this is a lens designed to be used without... a camera' :) great review. ty for sharing.

      I'm afraid you do still need a camera. Unless your looking for a very expensive door stop, or desk ornament!

      +gossipopithecus If you go to our GH5 page and click on accessories there is a whole list of products we recommend for the camera: www.proav.co.uk/panasonic-gh5-lumix-mirrorless-camera#accessories
      For Cine lenses you could look at the SLR magic ones or the Xeen range.

    Could you see a big difference in term of optical performance between a stills lens and the CN-E 18-80? I use the 24-105 from Canon on my C200 and this video makes me rethink if I should upgrade it to the 18-80!

    • @ProAVTV
      @ProAVTV  5 лет назад +1

      Optically? Not a huge amount in terms of sharpness etc. Stills glass is designed for much higher resolutions than we use in the video world.
      But it terms of being par-focal, and lower focus breathing this is a big improvement.
      The main benefits are to do with usability though.

      ProAV TV thank you for your response, I really appreciate it. One last question! If you had the choice between Sigma High Speed Zooms(18-35/50-100) and the Canon Compact Servo 18-80, which one would you choose? And why? I would love to hear your opinion.

    • @ProAVTV

      @@kadragepictures I would say they are for different work. Canon is for fast paced, actuality filmmaking. Sigma lenses are more suited to crafted work.

    You said FS7! Will the servo zoom work with the FS7??? This would be a huge market for Canon to support as they used to do for Sony's industrial and broadcast cameras.

    • @ProAVTV
      @ProAVTV  7 лет назад +1

      The servo lens does indeed work on the FS7 with a metabones adapter.
      Its a nice combination. The AF doesnt work though, but thats to be expected really.

    Appreciate your effort. Does work on eos DSLR cameras?

    • @ProAVTV
      @ProAVTV  7 лет назад

      It will, although it doesn't cover a full frame sensor, so it wont work with some.
      Which DSLR are you using?

      7d mark ii, I need to if it will work with full features? Exactly I mean the auto focus and support the dual auto focus? Thanks again for your response.

      It will cover the sensor of the 7D. I haven't used it myself with the camera, but I see no reason it shouldn't work fine.

    You left out the BLACKMAGIC URSA MINI 4.6K PRO. Is it fully compatible with the BMURSA MINI? I just purchased the CANON COMPACT SERVO 70-200mm lens, and I'm prayin' that a firmware update will be all that is needed to utilize all the features of this incredible CANON Compact Servo. Thank you for your video

    Thanks for sharing Carl! Cool lens but maybe Canon is still out of step with what Indi shooters really need.
    The focal length covers everything an indi-film maker needs in one lens, but if only it would have been a little faster (t2.8-t3.2 range) and image stabilization this would have been a great investment!
    Looking forward to seeing optical how she renders skin tones, high contrast scenes, etc..
    Cheers!

      A faster lens at this quality would have made it much larger and much more expensive. Thats what their CN7 is for, but thats a £24K lens.

    Needs a Metabones to hook up to an FS7? Guess that will make it even slower :-( It wont work with a Speedbooster will it as its not full frame? Is it enough of an improvement to justify a spend over utterly annoying non parfocal, non fixed aparture (loses 3 stops!) F2.8 24-70 L on the speedbooster??? Hmmm!

    • @ProAVTV
      @ProAVTV  7 лет назад

      Metabones shouldn't make it lose any light?
      Carl

    • @Crackingproductions
      @Crackingproductions 7 лет назад

      Adding more glass probably does but thats what where the 0.7x Speedbooster wins I guess :) Still unclear if the zoom will work from the Sony built in handle rocker mind? How we cobble these things together!

    • @ProAVTV
      @ProAVTV  7 лет назад

      The normal metabones (not the speedbooster version) doesn't have any glass inside.
      It will control the servo as well as of the latest firmware. Actually got a video about exactly this coming soon!

      It doesn't cover a full frame sensor i'm afraid, only super 35mm.
