A 5e Guide to Being Truly Metal
Artificers are technological innovators and inventors, capable of making magic with mere bolts and screws and. Bards are maestros, musicians capable of conducting symphonic magic through their instruments. Both classes tend to focus on buffing up their allies. And together they can create sweet, sweet high-tech music together. If the idea of becoming a magical rockstar and living out countless songs from 80’s music videos in your campaigns sounds good to you, then just grab your guitar and a metal dragon to ride as we go through everything you need to know.

My race of choice going into this would be a Gem Dragonborn from Fizzban's. Go Lightning Dragon, and now you can spit electricity as part of your show, and at 5th character level you can release a thunderous scream that can debilitate or even send people flying. For this, I'd also make the Steel Defender look like a Kobold, as that would be thematic with a little kobold following a dragonborn around doing work for you.

I love the idea of an artillerist artificer bard that has the eldritch cannon as a bard instrument. You can use the protector cannon to give everyone that hears it temporary hit points or the force ballista to be more of a sound wave that blasts an enemy five feet back.

You could set it up as like a big old speaker with legs or wheels, and the force cannon is a directed sound blast. The temp HP is it playing quieter music that pumps up people nearby. And the flamethrower? Somebody let the dang pyro guy in the equipment shed again!

You missed a key note in the races; the Changeling. They not only get a +2 Cha but their ability to alter their appearance means they can tailor their show to suit the audience.
I've binged all of your multiclass videos and I particularly like this one because anyone can optimize for damage or spells or whatever but this build is pure fun!

    Some things to note here.
    - RAW you can get around the focus issue at level 2 Artificer by picking up the Instrument of Illusion (Replicate Magic Item) This allows you to cast both Bard spells and Artificer spells with the same focus. Since it is both an instrument and an infused item. It also allows you to make some cool visual effects while playing.
    - If you're not as concerned about con saves or concentration. You can go bard first and sacrifice those and 1× artisan's tools, for 2× instruments and an extra skill proficiency overall. You still get tinker's, thieve's, medium armor, and shield profiencies when you multiclass into it later.
    - You can gear your artisan's tool proficiencies towards your type of instrument. Like Smith's for metal, woodcarver's for wooden, potter's tools for clay/porcelain, leatherworker's for drums, etc. This lets you repair or even make your own instruments.
    - You can squeeze in up to 2× more tools from backgrounds. Which means 2x more instruments/artisan's tools.

The instrument of illusion is a great idea, and can be upgraded to pipes of haunting at Artificer 6.

    So
    a) I go hill dwarf, and take every Tasha's option possible to add 5 tool proficencies (you can replace your weapon proficiencies, since you'll get martial proficiency anyway.
    b) for maximum jank, I take 3 levels of rune knight to get the fire rune, so that... all my tool proficency bonuses are doubled... I see absolutely nothing in the rules to indicate that this doesn't stack, which, if you take actual expertise in, say... thieves tools, at high level, your bonus is technically 8x? Meaning +48(+dex). It's almost tempting to do a artificer, fighter, rogue build, just to get to that reliable talent, minimum 58 skill check...
Yeah, not your build, but, I think that actually works.

I just saw this, and I would think an Armorer Artifcer/Creation Bard would work just as well if not better.
You no longer have your roadie, but you can have heavy armor without the strength requirements. Additonally, you can infuse multiple pieces of your armor, and get a pretty high AC, with the utility that comes with Artificer and Bard. I would say your base attacks would be weaker, but you aren't a paper bag anymore.

    • @raptortalon86
      @raptortalon86 Год назад

You can make a roadie from a hommunculus too

Slap a magic mouth on each individual piece of your armour that sings one note, and play your own armour like a pipe organ.

my problem with my bardificer is that i don't have enough bonus actions in a turn. do i use my steel defender? do i inspire an ally? do i use a concentration spell?

Bro, as much as I like the “axe” pun, you’re thinking too small. Pneumatic Power Armor, where the pneumatic pistons double as the pipes for an Organ. Bardificer Church Organ Power Armor.
