- DJI Mavic 2 Pro Autofocus Manual Focus & Auto Focus Continuous Testing. I tested the auto-focus, manual focus and auto-focus continuous (AFC) to be more familiar and comfortable with how the Mavic 2 Pro remains in focus. This was fruitful because I now have reinforced confidence in getting the best images from this drone.

Hey y'all. DJI has an online manual for the DJI Go 4 App here: store.dji.com/guides/dji-go-4-manual/. Very useful! Check out the Peak Threshold feature: store.dji.com/guides/dji-go-4-manual/8/. When you turn this on, it adds red lines to the video feed to indicate what's in focus. I'll probably do a quick follow-up video on it if I find time. I uploaded the video in 4K, but it sometimes takes RUclips a while to process. So the highest resolution is 1080 until they finish. Quality should still be just as good though.

Good job GI, I always tap my focus on my mavic pro as soon as I maintain a hover and then I hit the record button.
Yep, that's the best way to do it I think. You can have pretty good confidence that everything will be in focus after that.

Hey Gadget Inspector, thanks for the video, you really tested this out well, really appreciate all your hard work. I have had no end of problems recently with focus in manual. Never had this before till the latest firmware update. I think they have recalibrated the focus wheel in manual. Will now start in AFC, tap the screen, then switch to Manual to hold that setting. I am mostly shooting landscape for my Sydney Sunrise series at our northern beaches. We are up to week six, so hope to get crisp video for the next shoot. Thanks mate, big hi from Australia!
The JW Channel Sounds like you really need to have confidence that your shot is in focus and don’t have any do-overs. Have you tried the focus peaking feature? I don’t film without it these days. Great testing my brother, I learned a lot from watching. I don't have a Mavic 2, but I do have the original Mavic Pro and have encountered the "blurry video syndrome" in the past. I'm not sure if the original Mavic Pro has the AFC setting, but will look into it. I'm getting tired of tapping on the screen to get the best images while flying, besides, "who can remember to do all of that stuff in the middle of a flight?" LoL!!! Thanks bro, great job. Yeah I noticed that too...I may have ticked off some of them 😕 since I started declining most of what they were offering. Aw man, sorry about that W.G. RUclips adjusts ads pretty randomly on all of my videos. Some have very weird placement. Sometimes there's only 1 and sometimes there's 2 in a row, etc. Hopefully you still have the option to just skip 'em. I still fly from the deck my friend! That's the great thing about this hobby....the variety. I actually have some FPV goggles coming, so I'll probably pull my ET115 out in order to test them.
Great video but when you did the manual focus part it was done wrong. On the last update if you noticed the infinity and flower are a light fade. You don’t tap the infinity symbol nor the flower, you have to slide it up and down and if you slide all the way up to infinity some of the video will get blurry but if you slide it 2 notches down from infinity then everything is in perfect focus. Try it and let me know what you think. Keep up the great work with videos 👍🏽
Very nicely done. I was looking for this exact demo and you nailed it. I have a wonder that I might try. at your 19-ish min mark you focus on the E on the dugout. I wonder if you were 10 feet closer and refocused would the background be out of Focus. That has me wondering. THx for the video!!!

Nice work GI, I appreciate your methodical approach. U must be an engineer in real-life :) I came to the same conclusion u did. I always start the video on the ground because I like filming the take-off. However, I noticed the AFC doesn't always recalibrate in the air to infinity 'automatically' so I'm in the habit of touching the screen once to focus and then we're good. And yes, if at wide-open aperture initially, it exasperates the issue.
In retrospect I probably should have gone the engineering route, but I ended up in accounting and audit lol. I guess that makes sense though with getting into the details.
By the way GI, you would think it would be easy for DJI to automatically initiate the AFC when you start the video, like when you push the photo shutter half-way.
I dont have the 2 pro yet, but the mavic air and Google RE. Any ideas how you focus with the Googles? Tap on screen is not really an option.

Good video on getting the Mavic in proper focus. I only have the Mavic Pro Classic, so I don't if the Mavic 2 has these features, but I turn on the blinky's to let you know if your in focus or not. With this enabled you will never have a out of focus issue again. And I assign one of the control buttons to auto focus, so I don't have to worry about touching the screen if I want affinity focus. And the remember when closing a aperture, the lowest aperture might not be the sharpest aperture, it varies from each camera lens. And being in focus is very important, but not all photo's or video call the sharpest possible settings. Sometimes a little softness in the a image is a good thing.

I liked the video, but i hate rap to focus on dji drones thats why i went to autel evo lol. Jyst my opinion u know we cool, also 24 fps seems to be to slow when yawing to me anyway . Great drone u have my brother.
It's just with the Mavic line and its not as cumbersome as it may seem. Nevertheless, that EVO is an awesome drone as well. We can all win when it comes to this stuff. Have fun bro.

When I use my P4, I use my iPad, it helps me see what the camera is doing far better than my iPhone. I can't put my iPhone in the holder on the Spark, due to the fact that my phone lives in an Otterbox case. This is cool information, if it ever stops being an overcast and dreary day, I may have to try out the P4 and see if it has manual or autofocus on it. I guess what my point is, that the iPad can help you see if things are out of focus better than a phone.
Ok thanks Dan. You shouldn't ever have to even think about auto-focus with the P4. Just take it on up and start shooting.

2 things brother: 1st, tap to focus and immediately switch to MF to avoid the drone trying to refocus. It works 100% every time. 2nd because of the crop factor of the 1” sensor, the M2P is sharper from f/2.8 to f/4. You can go up to f/5.6 but you’re already getting a slightly softer image due to diffraction. F/7 and above is a no go!

Hi can someone please help really quick, I’ve been looking at get a drone and I love taking photos mainly that’s what I do, video here and there for fun but photography is what I do more. Which drone is better the DJI Mavic Pro 2 or the DJI Mavic Zoom ? Which would be better and I want to purchase a drone that would last me a while don’t want to keep updating or regretting my purchase. So which is better to buy?
The best thing I can recommend to you is to watch some of the videos out here on RUclips where they're comparing the two. There should be tons of videos out there. That should help you. You could also try the mavicpilots.com forums. I don't own a Zoom, so I can't really speak on it, but the M2Pro is easily the best drone I have ever flown. It's not even close. The quality is amazing IMO.

I went from mavic air to this drone and was really disappointed that I didn't have to do any focusing or tapping on the air but on this much better drone I did...kind of stinks. How often do you tap to focus. Sometimes in the field its hard to see if you are truly in focus

Just before you saw that you did not record the image was really out of focus. Right at the moment that you restarted the recording everything was perfect in focus.
Are you going to do a DJI Osmo Pocket review?
I would love to review it, but it's not in the cards right now. It's on my long 'wish list' of gadgets to review though for sure.
Gadget Inspector do you think the DJI Osmo Pocket would be good for a family video recorder? We do a lot of camping trips. I figure that would be easy to pack. I have a Sony a6000 that I bring to take pictures but I was looking into something to take video.
I think you wrong whilst in video mode u can tap the still camera button half and it will focus the video,I just tested it.

I just leave mine on auto-focus and I tap to focus just one time once I've framed up the shot I'm trying to get. The focus peaking gives me assurance that I'm still in focus throughout the remainder of the flight.

Gadget Inspector oh no, I live in Europe, the Netherlands. ‘Bout your vid: problem was that it was really cloudy and dark. In bright sunlight it is easier to test focus. At least I think so. I checked your focus on the branches of the trees. The camera is so good that you could count the branches.
Yeah a sunny day might have been better, but we probably won't see the sun until winter is over next April lol. I was asking because I wanted to send you something, but I would have to take out a loan to ship it to you lol.
