    Hi Billy.
    Be aware of the differences in DJIGO4 for Android and iPhone.
    In Android version you will not find the menu options "peak focus thresholt" and "enable hardware decodnlng". Therefore, one can not achieve the focus help you mention with the red lines on Android.

    • @billykyle

  • @emilcaruso3088
    @emilcaruso3088 7 лет назад

    Billy,
    would like to add one thing...notice how when in auto focus the camera will "refocus" on its own. test it, just move the Mavic around your room, it will refocus every time. this can be very troublesome during a recording, watching the scene go in and out. so, I am leaving it on manual for now, once I have it in focus, I then change it to manual. so the camera won't refocus on its own. I am hoping for a firmware update to fix this.. tell me what you think..

    Just finished watching your video Billy, good info and you answered several questions I'd had. However, I'd like to offer a couple of suggestions on your presentation. First, slow your narrative down, way down. It will make the vid a bit longer but much easier to follow and give more time to process the information. Second, if you read from a script, it helps the presentation to adopt a more conversational tone rather than a hurried lecture. As an experiment, you could try redubbing the video as suggested above and observe the difference. I think you'll see a more professional presentation and perhaps like the result. Keep up the good work!

    • @billykyle
      @billykyle  7 лет назад

      +Kurt Lucas Hey Kurt thanks for the comment! The camera should stay in focus, I have had no issues with it. Sometimes I hear beeping at me as it is autofocusing on its own. To make things easier, I usually map one of the "C" buttons located on the back to focus so I don't have to tap on the screen all the time. Hope this helped!

  • @ptamzz
    @ptamzz 7 лет назад

    Is the Peak Focus threshold directly manipulating the Depth-of-field? With 90, it seems like it has a shallow depth-of-field; whereas with 70, it has a wider depth-of-field.

  • @sinjon
    @sinjon 7 лет назад +1

    So AF isn't really AF if you still need to touch the screen to focus

    • @JohnAmaro_Official
      @JohnAmaro_Official 5 лет назад

      You just have to show to the drone where to focus (by touching the target on your screen)and then that person or object will always be in focus even when the drone is moving. In manual focus you will have to do it manually(follow the target by touching the screen when the target is changing position)and and thats too difficult) hope that helps

    Manual focus is good,but notice that the Mavic pro's M focus it is not that good some times,the infinity focus point is not true,when you scroll all the way down to infinity,the image will get totally blurry!I think DJI should be fix it.

    Good Video! Question - (I just got my Mavic, newbie here..) When using the auto focus, you tap in the middle to auto focus the scene, right? Let's say I'm starting my flight, towards a statue... I tap the center to auto focus when I start, from several hundred feet away. As I get closer to the statue, do I have to tap the screen again, or does it keep auto-focusing on what ever is in the center of the screen?

    great video, DJI have rally stuffed up here, why cant they just have a camera like the Phantoms as their videos are always sharp, the mavics always have something out of focus if you are shooting 40 feet away the foreground and horizon is blurry, i dont know if this is a lens issue or software

    • @theflashingscotsman
      @theflashingscotsman 7 лет назад

      The Mavic lens has adjustable focus. The others are fixed. You don't get the option of blurring the background or foreground on a fixed focus lens. If you want a wider range of focus, stop down the lens as far as you can for your light conditions.

    Maybe another question/topic that would dovetail into these are: why do I get diagonal lines showing up on the sky background on my iPad mini 4 when flying? The ground footage is fine but the sky has the diagonal lines scrolling across it - only on the ipad Mini 4 screen - not the actual recorded video.

    • @billykyle

      +Daniel Intili Yes, above the shutter button is an icon that you click to switch between camera and video mode. If your camera is unable to focus, this may be a problem that can be resolved by sending it back to DJI.

    Nice video and thanks for the explanation. The problem with this at around time 6:00 regarding focus threshold is I can't believe the letters on the cup, mostly outlined in red and most of the printers feeder can be in focus at the same time with a 2.2 aperture. That would mean the depth of field is huge. In fact there is some red on every figure in the scene. Are you saying the whole scene is in focus? I can't really tell from my small monitor.

      The main thing that is in focus is the printer in the back because that is the point that I chose the camera to focus on. That is why you will notice the dark, red lines on the printer whereas the cup has feint red lines because that is not the subject I chose to focus.

      Im not disputing what you intended to focus on but I don't know what touching the screen prior to manually focus has any bearing on what would be in focus. The focus plane is parallel to the camera lens/sensor. Manually moving that plane comes from sliding the slider. If the printer was the intended focus distance then nothing on the cup should be in focus and everything on the printer should be in focus. The focus plane is just a few inches deep at most with this aperture and focal distance. Personally I don't like the red lines because of this crude focus assistance. I guess we just trust auto focus.

    I enjoyed your video very much. Although I had to replay it over and over many times. You talk entirely to fast, I dont mean to be critical but come down to my level the student. Thanks much !

      +DARRYL SMITH I don't believe this is a feature accessible on android at the moment, although I'm sure they will eventually add it.

    I've heard about the Mavic autofocus changing whenever it changes position; for example, going from a high point and then swooping down towards objects (such as trees/buildings). Whenever you fly like this, does AF re-focus in the middle of the shot? If it does, that will ruin the shot (the zoom in/out blur while it changes the AF midshot). How can you work around this and set up just infinity focus all the time?

      I saw a video about that. When you stop moving it will refocus which gives a short blur to your shot. The guy recommend having it on auto focus. Get it to focus on a distant area by touching center of the screen to a good distance. When things look in focus then turn on manual focus. That will stop it from auto refocus anytime you stop moving and ruining your shot, just don't move the slider on the screen which would change the focus

    In MF mode when you set the slider all the way to infinity, does it focus accurately? I've read comments saying that it's never quite sharp when set to infinity.

      the icons are reversed. sliding to the infinity icon is actually macro and vice versa. a very bad update by DJI

    Nice, but would be nice to see how to use it when you're flying. 👍

    When do I need to tap the screen when initiated the first time during flight? For instance, maybe I am moving in a straight line going south to north, but moments later, I turn to go east in a straight line with my camera pointing down. Am I having to tap focus again? This is just one scenario of many more. Simply, I am confused about when to tap focus. I hope get my drift.

      +Robert Calloway If you change the subject you are filming you should always refocus. You can always set one of the C buttons on the back of the remote as a focus button, making it super easy.
