- Capturing surfers surfing waves can be a challenge as you need to understand not only camera techniques but also have at least some level of understanding of surf. In this video, I will cover 5 tips on how to capture surf using a drone, plus I go into a high level overview on how to read surf, so that you know when to head out to capture surf.

Magnificent video, I have same craft so thanx for the super starter advice. Subscribed.
Thanks bro, epic video and very helpful!
Ayeee I've made it in the vid 🤙🏻 what a morning it was! Great tips mate, really like the drone screen POV! So keen for the next couple days 🙏🏻
Thanks. Harrison. Hopefully I explained it all properly. Yeah. Wednesday I reckons the day
So many good information in this video, thanks for doing this man!
Thanks so much. Glad that it’s useful. What’s your insta handle?
Seriously rate this mate. Can be so hard to read it for many people so it’s great for people to have this insight.
Thanks Jordan. Yeah I’m still working it out if I went deeper into it.
Love your beautiful video 😍
Thanks for the great video - most helpful.
Awesome video man! I definitely learned some stuff that I'm going to use the next few days. Also about the composition 👌🏼
Thanks Danny. Glad I’ve been able to explain this well enough to understand.
Love this dude! Crazy how many drones were out and how low some people get hey! Wild!
Yeah it’s actually pretty crazy. Hence the talk about drone etiquette
Ive seen this video couple times and I love it. very well explain
Thanks so much. Glad it’s been informative. Hope it helps
Great video Chester!!
Thanks Will.
Sweet video. Thanks for the info on what to look out for! Also it looks like there was a lot of drones flying around
Yeah it gets busy whenever there’s big surf in Sydney. That’s why I had to dedicate one whole point to safe flying. What’s your handle?
You have very cool waves!)
Your colors are gorgeous! I wish I lived near a some beaches haha, but all I got is dirt and sand! These were some pretty good tips, I don't have a drone but I didn't even know you needed some stuff like an ND for it. The shutter speed is basic sports photography rules haha. I love how you just kinda went right into the tips. Really good stuff this is the first video I've seen of yours. Going down the rabbit hole now haha!
Lets Make Movies thanks. Yeah it’s definitely an art to take surf photos from the drone. However putting in the advice at the start was very bad for retention in this video. The majority of people dropped out right after those tips. I should’ve put that last! 🤦♂️
Great tips man. Keep up the awesome content
Thanks man. What’s your insta handle?
@@SeeShots it's @jason_waddell
great video, thanks for sharing!!
Thanks. Hope it made sense.
@@SeeShots it did!
Next problems: Drone crowded
Thanks for share it, was helpful
Looks like there was a few drones in the sky! Haha! Great tips mate
Julian Lallo thanks. Yeah whenever there’s big surf there’s a lot of air traffic which is annoying
Great video! Do you recommend polirized filter also for surfing? There are some ND + PL available. Or just ND is enough? Thanks!
Good stuff Chester. Let me know when you are going out next, I will come along. 🤩
Thanks. Will do. Looks like this current swell is dissipating
awesome video chester!
Declan Norris thanks Declan. Hope you got something out of it. Tried to incorporate my vlogs into some sort of story
@@SeeShots yeah i did! so much value in your vlogs, its fun and cool like a vlog - but in the end i am still learning so your crushing it man!
Declan Norris glad to hear it. That’s my aim with vlogs. I want it to be wrapped around something of value as opposed to just a pure vlog.
Nice Info Bro..I've been doing the same things..Drone Surf Fotography/Videography is risky, I've been lost my drone in Bali
I'm about to use these tips in Honolulu thank you
Cool. May have to be the opposite depending on whether the coast is east or west. I’m Sydney based so the coast is east
Awesome
Thanks Tom. What’s your insta handle?

thx for this Vid, very well explained. Started to take videos of surfers last year, have so many questions: *does the drone sensor detect the water as a surface? So its not flying down into the water? Can you set a minimal limit for the drone flight height? So can be sure, that you never drown the cloud? * does the smart object following work with surfers? I thought that everything is happening way to far.... but with the auto detect object function, you might be able to do it !? * do you always set a focus point, before you take a picture? * I thought ND filters are only for video. Will they affect the image? For sporty images you want super fast shutter speeds, like 1/2000 or even more.... with a ND Filter these times are getting longer, maybe resulting in blurry images? Did you try a Polarisation filter? This should get rid of the reflections in the water. Heard different opinions about pol filters and surf photography..... I hope you have time to reply, also hope that I can give something back.... keep up the great vids
I don't get the waves you have but do shoot surfers occasionally in Guam,, I like the advice,, you are talented
what filter do you recommend for surfing vids? ND 16/64/256?
Yo thats sick man! those waves was epic! Imma take this tips to take my mavic air 2 out and shoot some videos here in Bondi! @Viktorbjorkqvist
Thanks Carl. Glad that it’s helped. For the east I get better surf in tama bronte.
Can you get closer to the surfer whilst filming?
How close do you let the drone get to the waves and water? Have you ever looked up and didn't realise you were way too close?
FOR SURF PHOTOS DO YOU RECOMMEND THE PRO OR THE ZOOM. (MAVIC 2)
Hard question. Zoom means you don’t have to be as close for the tight shot but the pro has better dynamic range and ability to crop due to larger sensor.
Anyone else notice the dolphin in far right of the frame behind the wave at 2 mins 19 secs?
Do you take photos with log or just normal?
Photos in normal raw.
I should do a video, this gives no good info, nothing on focusing or appeture. And a shutter speed that low isn't sufficient for a wheelchair going uphill.
Dam I gotta watch all this how to vid ocean surfers
Then i gotta figure out how to get gas money
And I only got 4 moon lenses
That's amazing mate, what's your Instagram? thanks
Marco Lopreato thanks Marco. It’s @seeshots
Meh drone are overused imo. Ecery kid got one. The best perspective is in the water with a housing. Nothing come Close
Makta972 yeah it’s true. 3 years ago it was a unique perspective. A lot of drone pilots don’t know a thing about photography and treat it like their iPhone cameras. Underwater housing is a huge investment plus you have to be fit too. For me getting the housing is ok, it’s the fitness to paddle out, dive deep, and to hold my breath for a long time that’s the challenge
I bet that shot was great sadly a drone was hit by a 🌊
