Really enjoy these videos, its like the mate you always want to share a pint or three with talking motors and sense. As the owner of a 2.2 transit thou, this scares the what not out of me. But its serving my son well, and he his cutting his teeth doing maintenance on the van, inspired by you.
Im a novice, and I have try and drill glowplugs insitue, and hope I do not have to refere to this video to retrieve bits from cylinder head!!!! Geat videos mate.
Great video! These are by far the worst vans in circulation atm we’ve got a fleet at work and they spend more time in ford dealers than actually on the road, bring back the smiley 😊. Top work pal.
Salvage Rebuilds has had 2 Ford engines rebuilt by a firm in Essex they specialise in rebuilding these engines think they are kept very busy. Al is an old school mechanic only replace if it's knackered, very few mechanics left now just technician's plug in and throw parts at it. Poole Diesels in the 80/90s were very good when i lived near Poole he used to have lots of Taxi and fleet customers.
These people that ere saying you should change all the pistons when clearly their is no need probably work for a garage who like to screw people over and they definitely not proper mechanics they are just FITTERS. Keep up the good work Al
My 2.2 has just done the same 165k of hard work so I can’t complain to much , I’m thinking mine will be a new engine job as I carried on driving to get off the motorway
The earlier 2.4's were a bit more reliable than these later nightmares, but any Transit engine built after the 2.5di was the automotive equivalent of 'Trigger's Broom'. 😂
Ive been watching this ford transit rebuild Ive got a quick question for you if you can answer it Ive got a citroen relay 2.2 which has the 2.2 transit engine My temperature gauge has stopped working and i have a feeling its the temperature sensor Any change you can tell me the location of the temperature sensor Because im getting mixed information from the net and youtube So say top of the head where the injectors are some say the side of the head and some say the thermostat houseing I can see a senor of some sort on the thermostat housing but im not to if this is the correct one just wondering you you might be able to tell me Thanks
I had a Land Rover with the 2.4 transit engine and was told by a mechanic to never let it labour and keep it about 1700rpm or so just always go down a gear when needed to prevent the engine doing this, is this true? I never had any bother with it, just seals on injectors….. in fairness I got rid before 80k.
They tend to drop the ohm’s on the electric valves ( injector) causing it to over fuel when decelerating. Washing the cylinders out . This set tested fine on pattern and leak off . Ohm’s return should be 200 we had 20,30,50, and 190 . And sadly that’s all that’s available 👍
FORD or as we knew them in my last job 'Fix Or Repair Daily' - We had a fair few issues with our Transits. In my current company we have Vauxhall Vivaros (Peugeot Partners in disguise) and to be honest even with the problems with the Transit in my last job this van in my opinion is worse. A notchy gearbox, terrible turning circle and power steering that seems to have forgotten the word power in the title (However this could just be my van). The van is too bloody small as well compared to the previous model Vivaro which I also drove and my previous Transit. Still musn't grumble.
Best Tranny engine was a mk3 2.5DI which could do half a million miles easy with ford level servicing The banana could do pumps so it’s not the best but for total reliability engine wise take a bow 86-91 2.5Di take a bow
I'm a J.L.R Master Tech not that that means bollcks all nowadays Al but yes you are right those engines are SHITE!!! They are the biggest load of crap Ford ever wasted money on making!!! Give me a Merc or a VW any day...
@@jasoneldridge4738ur not a fan of transits are ya theyre great vans, have driven all of them from the mk 3 on and they have all bin brill over 100000s of miles.the last one i drove,a 16 plate mk 8 has done coming up to 180000miles with virtually no problems and still going well.they drive so good, much, much better than any sprinter or vw.i have to drive fiats and shitreons where i work now,now they are dreadful things indeed.
I bet 90% of your viewers still have not worked out why you have a number of different sprinters I did cos I have done the same with troopers and the even rarer citation/ a great towing platform buut dont let Mr ministry man se you towing a big trailer with it without having a Tachographfitted( if the gross train weight of tow car and trailer exceeds 2.5 tonnes you must by law run a Tacho
Why are these engines rubbish ? The old VM transit with the 2.4 engine lasts for ages if properly serviced . l have seen some with 700,000 plus on them . Is this a case ford not giving a f towards quality or its customers ?
because the old engine was what? 85 horse? what's the first thing people do nowadays buying a second hand van they don't know nothing about how it's been maintained? yeah, correct, they go for a re-map cause they absolutely need that 160 horses. I've got a 2.2 puma in my 2007 boxer van and it's currently getting to 190k miles. the thing is - it's a 100 horse version and I never intended on changing that. the problem is, they don't have very efficient injectors. so in order to produce more power they have to extend the injection times. the longer the fuel is being injected, the longer it heats the piston in case the injector wears out over time and hasn't got the perfect spray pattern. this leads to piston melt downs or cracks. they are simple engines and capable of high mileages but not high power outputs. so if you want it to last as long as your old 2.4 - bring the power down to 2.4 levels and enjoy trouble free use.
Love & look forward to these videos Al, you're a very talented man. Keep the videos coming mate. Enjoy watching them.
Great , another video from Al the magician , I'm gonna pop downstairs to make a coffee then settle in for 20 minutes of Dorset brilliance 😁

I am,driven 100000s miles in these and never had any issues, great vans, better than the fiats and shitreons i have to drive now.
My favtool for the monotony of sump bolts is a 1/4 drive speed brace
your description of how this will do 70000 and shit itself had me rolling I laughed so hard I had stomache cramp
Good job lad
the bigg launch diagnostic comp can re code the injectors on fords
Im with you AL use a piston from one of the engines you have rescued from being a boat anchor( possibly)
i didn't know Tintin could work a lathe!🤣
My 2009 mk7 on 207,000 not had many issues.

It’s all down to me, no yt these days 👍

Hi, where can I find the torque specs for bolts ?
As far as I can remember it’s explained in this series of videos
I have just had a recon engine fitted in Betty after 200k! 2.4 mk7

Your seem way happier when working on merc/sprinter engines.
So would you, if you spent all that time rebuilding something that will probably go bang in a very short time !
Hi ,great vids learning lots , question the silver Merc estate will that be for sale or is it a customers
Lovely thing now living in france with a friend of mine 👍
How much would you charge to rebuild mine it’s got a crack at the bottom of it apparently

Any euro 5 engines for sale
Nope 👍
how much do you charge to recondition a mk 7 euro 4 engine mate?
We do t really do that sort of thing fella it’s impossible to price
I've noticed that a lot of people are rebuilding low mileage Ford engines. 🤔
Because they don't tend to reach high mileage!
Ford has a good name fix or repair daily
Al, two questions. 1.How does the faulty injector cause damage to the piston. 2.Why can't Ford use more reliable injectors!

I think it's iMovie built-in, the giveaway is that it automatically changes its structure to fit the clip it's applied to.
