As someone who has been following the channel since not long after it started, I have just realised something after watching this video.
Most vehicle repair/rebuild channels, as they get bigger, tend to rush through the repairs and builds and also edit out a lot of what is going on. With salvage rebuilds uk, it's the total opposite. I have noticed that you explain things more in-depth now than you did when you were a really small channel and you also explain exactly whats going on right down to the changing of the smallest screw and nut & bolt and I don't know about the other viewers, but I for one am truly grateful that you do this, as I have learnt a massive amount about the repairing of cars just from watching this channel.
Not only is this channel entertaining, but it's one of the best vehicle repair educational channels on RUclips and that includes the ones on the other side of the pond as well.
So, a massive thank you from me Rob & Chris, and I just hope that all the other viewers appreciate what you do for us as well. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🙏👍

I bet fords 2 year 30K miles oil change interval plays a good part in these engines dieing. We've got a load of them at work and to think the oil only gets changed once every 2 years or 30K miles is mad, they get start stop hammered from 7AM until 5PM everyday and not one will have the oil level checked in that time either. Top upload again 👍😎

From time to time I read some of the comments and, from time to time, I see the odd comment about Rob not doing as much as Chris! What those people don't realize is that Rob works on most weekends, films & edits the videos, picks up ther projects, does the MOTS, cleans the cars and yes repairs them as well. Now Chris is more repairs orineted and more reserved but Chis deals with the customers, buys parts, picks them up. Each one of them has their own strenghts! You don't really think they should be the exact copy of each other or their partnership wouldn't be beneficial to either of them! They need to be able to complete each other to make for a great success; which they are. Just my $0.02; some comments really rub the wrong way and are of no added value, I think.

Phew, some interesting new angles on engine rebuilding in this one. I am glad the valves were all okay, and that there was no head damage or the like. Certainly engine design has changed over the years, Engine bays looked crowded these days, but the complexity of the drives in that engine were something else. You have the essential patience to make sure that all those timing points are right, but that was the only way to get it all set up and well worth the care you took. It sounded lovely once it started and was clearly a much happier motor than before. The rest of the journey should now be a less tense journey to success and another nice result. A great start for the weekend - shame about today's weather, anyone for boating? If Sunday is like today, your weekend video will be welcomed by thousands.

Rob/Chris at one time we ran 60 Customs but now down to 40 now actually like the vans but mechanically bloody awful things. We only keep the ones we have now for 21/2 years or 60000 mks that way we avoid major mechanical issue's or at least most of them.We have also found that parts very expensive and also the vans are not that cheap to buy anymore.we have bought some of the latest vivaro,s but I think they may not do so well.We are I think going to buy around 35 of the latest Renault Traffics after all can't be any worse than the Customs, hopefully, also Ford back up is sometimes awful..

Fascinating upload, Once bought a Vaux Nova back in the nineties with an engine noise that matched a failed transmission thrust bearing. That is what the customer had already been told. I'm still sitting here scratching my head, wondering what the heck the engineers were thinking with that one. It's a completely unserviceable assembly! Just to get their hands on a new one entailed buying an entirely new engine and stripping it for parts!
Madness. According to other comments this is a Peugeot engine? It looks nothing like any Ford engine I've seen in North America; not that we have many little four-cylinder diesels over here in the first place...

I think the governments need to reconsider what's really causing the worst environmental impacts....
Diesel engines, or the "single use" covers and cams sold as one unit which can't be bought on their own or repaired!!
Perhaps they need to encourage longevity and ease of repair instead of banning ICE's completely 🤔🤔

Yep, it makes you wonder when every company claims to be more environmentally friendly yet more and more things are becoming harder to repair or single use 🧐

This nonsense began with lightbulbs and Sherman tanks.
Yet how many notice that the same policy is being applied to US Humans? Covidius, covidium, covidia...!
Yep, those last three words are essentially bollox, but they’re Latin bollox 🧐😎😜

Well done! Wouldn't have taken that on. Very poor engine design, no regard for servicing and or repair, even with their inflated parts prices. Shame on you Ford! And I've got a 50 year old Ford sitting in my garage!

  • @2000globetrotter
    @2000globetrotter 3 года назад +6

I've got to say, Rob, that this engine is a servicing disaster. Why has Ford gone back to using timing belts when the old 2.4 Duratec engine used chains? In addition, they have added another belt which is hard to get at and you have to half dismantle the entire engine just do to a belt change! I've always been a fan of Ford engines but to me, this one is an abortion! Add to this the all-in-one cam setup and you have an engine which was deliberately designed to thwart the independent mechanic! Incidentally, my old Duratec 2.4 had 330,000 miles on it when I sold it. Still pulling strong, burnt no oil and made no noises it shouldn't

Because the old 2.0 tdci engines were Mazda units, and now Ford have designed their own.
Was supposed to be a game changer, but has turned out to have durability issues.
Why oh why is it cam belted? Why is oil pump not direct driven?
Why can't you take cams out of the cam box?
Why is it a mass of pipes under bonnet? Ford dropped a boll**k!

Nice result lads, and nice to see inside one of these engines,
I had one exactly the same but never had the chance to see inside as it was hired,
    ... Interesting camshaft design
