Hi guys nice video...just a tip for you to mull over when you refit the engine if chris new toy got front forks leave the engine mounts on the engine then lift the engine up on the forks and slide the engine back on the spline of the gearbox yes a jack will be needed on the gearbox but you should find it a lot easier than the engine hoist as it gets in the way....I've always stripped the engine bits off and just removed the block and loom but eveyone to there own...good luck
Unfortunatly on these transits its very common for engine issues.i work as a mechanic and our fleet is 95% these 2.2 engines on a 65 reg and in the last 2 weeks we have had 4 engines give up! Butva brilliant episode and i hoped one day at our work we could strip them right down to see why it happens!!
You canalso tell the cylinder which has failed by the gloplugs if they come out easily or snap off!! After a pressure test of the cylinders, normally no 1 or 2 fails the glow plug comes out very easy!!

Rob, I have the same Nike trainers as you, i know they are comfortable but NOT steel toe-capped, just be careful mate, makes my nerves bad watching 😜
My mate had 2 new transits last year q with 30.000 engine blew other 1 40,000.not good engines.with great company like phoenix always be busy.great video again guys.chris u was safe u dint expose ur self lol.
The mk7 you can put a bore scope in no problem dont know about the mk8 though
Great example of by having all these “go to” specialists, you really have a vehicle salvage rebuild ecology.
Do you have a thin enough boroscope to check the cracked piston via the injector housings or glow plug ports?
Great video. I particularly like the way you always try to have a well defined endpoint rather that leave us hanging!
As always lads what A FANTASTIC video! I like to think i know a tiny bit about engines, but when i watch you two im literally blown away.
Id could never strip an engine out like that. I mean where do you even begin!
Im mesmerised by the videos and you and Chris are the perfect team.
Long may it continue.
Never change the format guys. The odd surprise video that you add , re the Harley and the 911 and ferrari are always a wonderful addition.
As always guys keep up the fantastic work!!
I know you will.
Cheers. Terry
Super video and those microphones are really doing the job. Wow, you didn't hang about extracting that engine and Phoenix were like a Formula 1 team, already well prepared by the time you got there! Very interesting to see them (and yourselves) at work and at the rate you guys are going, this will be a quick turnaround!
The mics really do make viewing so much better!
being organized pays off, and extra 10 minutes when stripping the engine and sorting the the components can save hours when reassembling , phoenix is an old school company, none of this send it away , in house machining those guys know there jobs , its a shame companies like them are a dying breed , its all bolt on bolt off now , thanks guys 👍
Love these sort of videos hope you will do more none runners very interesting videos
Lovely Jubbly Rob, oh how I wish we could receive the smell coming out of that engine workshop, it would take me back way to many years to my youth.
Hi Rob and Chris I still don't know how U2 keep on tuning out great videos and still keep on working thankyou for all the work you both do take care both 😉👍
Nothing dull in these videos, absolutely fantastic channel
It's ok Chris , you weren't showing any bum cleveage as you were bending over the engine bay , and Phoenix are just incredible , that they had started skimmimg a new head even before you arrived Rob , nice one boys , /i hope that you make a decent profit with that Transit
No job to small no job to big rob and Chris are awesome i have a go myself with my old astra thanks to you guys can do attitude.
Another great video guys I like the fact the guys at the engineering company don't mind being on cameras and showing and explaining what's gone wrong keep up the good work guys looking forward to the next one 👍👍👍👍
Well done rob Chris and the guys at phoenix engineering thanks to your brilliant work skill and explanation that transit will live again 😊
Great video, after the Transit MK7 all the new ones are nothing but trouble,
Great video, different in my day, York and Perkings engines on Transits.
Less than 100k miles, and already on its second engine rebuild... Sounds about right for a Transit
Phoenix guys are quick and knowledgeable, great.
If the two side vents on the scuttle panel are blocked the rainwater drains centrally onto the airbox flooding the filter and box and the turbo tries to inhale the paper filter.
Thanks Rob and Chris for another great vlog. Those guys at Phoenix certainly know their stuff and crack on with the necessary work. Stay well all 👍🏻
I got transit mk8 2.2 65 plat it drive good but some time black smoke come out I got to keep putting oil in it I put new tubo on it and still same you go any idea thanks
Keep it live guys it let’s everyone know that working on an engine removal is not easy, another great post guys
Not a patch on the mark 7 Transit. Ford have replaced a good van with a money pit.
I think Rob just puts the love hearts without reading the comments.
I'm guessing when that piston got punctured there must of been clouds of black smoke shooting out of the exhaust. Wonder what caused the damage.
Those guys are true craftsmen.
Core them back doors are very straight oooh! Yeah.
Hello John got a new motor.
You guys are excellent 👌 have a true passion & pride in wot you do
When Chris said " Take it to the experts" I was puzzled.....I find it hard to comprehend that someone might know something he doesn`t 😉 However them fella`s at Phoenix Engineering are wizards in the same magic circle as SRUK. Great vid as usual. 👍👍
I love small outfits such as Phoenix where you get first rate knowledge and experience applied to your job. This type of business is the life-blood of Britain and long may it receive the support it deserves. Can you imagine the horror of taking this job to a Ford main dealer?
