It seems all the reactors copy each other and Chilliwack hasn't really made the rounds yet. I figure they are due. It took a while to get to April Wine.
Gino does pop, jazz, classical, Americano… He’s quite versatile. On his album, Canto, he sings in English, Spanish, Italian and French. He always has excellent musicians. He actually started out playing drums before he became a vocalist. He spent a lot of time, studying religions and philosophy as well. He’s a pretty deep thinker and my favorite musical artists. You might want to check out the songs Nightwalker, Appaloosa, I Die A Little More Each Day (that could be hard to find),, the song shame, and The River Must Flow. For his more popular songthere the studio releases and then re-edited said he’s done in later years. Enjoy your Gino Vannelli trip! Maybe you find out why he’s been with my favorites for over 40 years.
So glad you guys are still checking out Canadian artists! Here are several other kickass Canadians: Great Big Sea, Tea Party, Colin James, Kim Mitchell, Lee Aaron, Bif Naked, Gowan, Luba, and Cowboy Junkies!
Alannah Myles, Sass Jordan, The Pursuit of Happiness, Trooper, Martha and the Muffins, The Kings, Rough Trade, Honeymoon Suite, Payolas, Odds, Prism, Doug and the Slugs, Downchild Blues Band, Streetheart, *Colin James, Colin James and Colin James*
@@T-ShirtMagic Yeah I agree, they seriously have to check out some Colin James songs! "I Just Came Back (To Say Goodbye)", "Five Long Years", "Chicks, Cars, and the Third World War", "Voodoo Thing", etc. Lots of great choices, including many of the songs from his swing/jump album with the Little Big Band!
Gino's steamy ballad BLACK AND BLUE will melt you!! Trust me. You might even gift me a membership just for the suggestion. No? Well, nothing ventured, nothing gained, right? 😂
Gino Vannelli is JUST ONE of Canada's guys. We have LOTS of guys, gals & groups that you haven't heard yet (& I know that you are going to love a TON of them, as you already do so far in your Canadian journey.) I am glad that Gino is one of the ones you like (along with Rush, Corey Hart, Heart - whom we claim because of the Wilson sisters, Bryan Adams, Celine Dion, Jeff Healey, BTO, The Guess Who etc.) We just have so many more you haven't discovered yet. Canada has a huge & rich musical culture.
I forgot, you also heard in the last few months for the first time & really liked Red Ryder (listed on the internet as Red Rider.) While I think that "Lunatic Fringe" was their best (& also VERY meaningful today in the world) - "White Hot" is another you will like - but AT LEAST you have now HEARD them. & how did I EVER forget to include in the list above of Canadians that you like/love - Shania Twain
I was in my early 20's when this came out. I'm the son of a jazz musician mother who raised her three sons to play musical instruments professionally or semi-professionally, and we all loved Gino. It still defines a time in my life. His music wasn't just a Canadian thing.
There was a great song, big hit, by the Canadian band Chilliwack , called "My Girl (Gone Gone Gone)" (1981). I haven't seen anyone react to that song, which is strange for such a worldwide hit.
OMG thank you! That song has actually been in my head for the past week but I couldn't remember who sang it! I was about 12 when it came out and it was one of my favorites.
Y'all are good! I've been requesting this song for ages. So glad you finally did it!! Thank you. I recommend that entire album, Powerful People, specifically the title song!!
I've been a subscriber for a while, and think I have a handle on what you will like. Here are a few more from the Great White North that you will LOVE: 1. Alannah Myles "Black Velvet" - Sultry blues. 2. Colin James "I Just Came Back to Say Goodbye" - Rockin' blues. 3. Trooper "Raise a Little Hell" - A real crowd pleaser. 4. Kim Mitchell "Go For Soda" - A banger with a killer bass line. 5. Chilliwack "Gone Gone Gone (My Girl)" - A cool Hall & Oates vibe. 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
Hey gorgeous you two - love watching the way you really feel the music x. I can’t see on your station whether you have any Guy Sebastian reviews. He is a triple threat genius. Won the first Australian Idol, now is a judge on The Voice. He writes INCREDIBLE songs has a voice of an angel and can dance like anything. Some of his stand outs for me are, Climb every Mountain (not his, of course), Titanium, Standing with you and his incredible rendition of The Prayer with Bella Taylor Smith Who he coached on The Voice and who won! I think you two would love him if you haven’t heard of him already. You know we have some outstanding talent down under and he is one of them.
Gino's vocals soar on two tracks from his 1976 album, "Gist of the Gemini"; "Love of My Life," and "Fly Into This Night" about a couple of years before radio embraced him with "I Just Wanna Stop" and "Livin' Inside Myself." Please check those two tracks out. I guarantee the songs and his vocals will knock you out.
Omens of Love is on my very short list of the most beautiful songs ever performed. I feel it showcases the power and tenderness of his voice more than any other composition-and what an incredible arrangement.
I love Gino Vannelli. I'm so glad you are doing more by him. You should check out It Hurts To Be in Love, Black Cars, Wild Horses, and Brother to Brother.
Thanks for reacting to another Gino song, he's one of my favs. His band always sounds fantastic. As others have said, Brother to Brother, Nightwalker, Appaloosa and I Just Wanna Stop are also fire.

Amber, if you like the instrumentals on this one, then you need to check out the first 2 songs on "Storm at Sunup/Love Me Now" which can be found here on YT to be played as one. Just put that in the search and pick the one with the LP original 1975 pressing as one merges into the other like we experienced them back in the day.
I had that LP ( image in the video ). It's his greatest hits, can't find it anymore (sad) . I believe that cool keyboard sound is the legendary Fender Rhodes keyboard, it was used often in the 70s and very early 80s. Check out Remi Shand guys, another smooth Canadian artist that was also ''invited to the cookout'' as Jay would say XD.
Gino is a very diversified artist, his 70s music could be compared to Steely Dan or Luthor Vandross like. His 80s songs Black cars and Wild horses are so 80s, but still Gino and his brothers magic.
In The Hippest Trip in America: Soul Train and the Evolution of Culture and Style, Nelson George settles it definitively. “The first white American acts on Soul Train were instrumentalists, not singers, which probably explains why they aren’t well remembered.” The groundbreaking performer was one of the top session cats in the business, Dennis Coffey, who performed his solo hit “Scorpio” in January 1972. Tower of Power was next, fronted by black vocalist Lenny Williams but featuring a number of white musicians, appearing in November 1973. Stay safe and stay well. 😎🤙🏻✌🏻🤟🏻🖖🏻
Gino Vanelli has some amazing songs on his Canto album. He sings in 4 languages. His English language songs are his least interesting songs. I love Parole Per Mio Padre as well as Una Solo Voce sung in Italian. And Mala Luna sung in Spanish with orchestral arrangements and a simple flamenco guitar. Gino croons good in any language.
As a Canadian, I’m proud to have a talented artist like Gino representing and I love this channel so much great music reactions keep em coming.
much love from Canada

As I recall, that was Gino's talented brother Joe Vanelli on keyboards and early synths. Super groovy!
Yes. He played that Wurlitzer keyboard, including the solo.
If I had one song by Gino Vannelli you must listen to is "Where Am I Going". It is the epitome' of all this Gino.
Yes this is a great song. It’s has so much depth & moving parts.

"Black Cars" is a must from Gino. Gino is one in a million! "I Just Wanna Stop" is another one that is a must.
