First white guy to sing on SOUL TRAIN!!! toured with Stevie Wonder. One of my favorite songs. And yes, the Large chimes add to this so much, as well as the vibes played throughout that lend delicacy, so good catch Brandon, they are two things I love best about Gino's production. He grew up going to see classical concerts, but his father being a big band singer, exposed him to every kind of music there was on the best stereo's. He is a prolific song-writer, and produces his own music. He plays drums, piano, guitar and base. Probably more. This song was written on Christmas day or eve, at a party, where he chose to stowe away to a room with a piano, to be alone. Your right Shante, he has admitted he is naturally an introvert, and had to learn to come out from the cover of a drum kit, and learn to have confidence out front, as a performer. At the time he wrote this, I think his wife had gone back to Oregon where she was from because she knew the LA scene wasn't good, and he stayed in LA, still hoping for changes in what was going on. She is the cloud above his head, his guiding light. I agree he may have been singing this to God as well, as he loved God deeply as a child. Good insight Shante. He eventually went to Oregon, where he lives now, and still married to her, and is 70, still touring all over the world, with a killer band. Watch LIVE IN LA, especially, "you gotta move" which he wrote when he was 17. He's written some great songs over the years, not so much pop, more jazz, blues, Americana, and classical.
After more than 45 years I still find myself madly in love with the voice of Gino Vannelli. He sang and wrote some of the most romantic songs I've ever heard. I was blessed to see him perform live and it was fantastic. His music is heavily rotated on my playlist. 🎶 🎤❤
One of the most overlooked singers of the 70s-powerful voice and delivery but seldom heard from anymore. I Just Wanna Stop and People gotta Move was his other big hits.
LOVE Gino! I had all his songs (giving away my age here ☺️) on cassettes back in the day. Seen him in concert too. What a phenomenal voice, super hot looking too! Let’s not leave out his musicians…outstanding to say the least, way ahead of their time with a touch of jazz and fusion. Glad the younger generation is checking out his music. Thank you for the respect and appreciating of beautiful music ❤️
Around 1978, my first love and I used listen to Gino's Vanelli sing I JUST WANNA STOP. Along with the Bee Gees, HOW DEEP IS YOUR LOVE? were two of our favorite songs. The relationship didn't last, but the memories do. I have a suggestion, Taylor Dayne and her song, SEND ME A LOVER. Enjoy
My song is " I just want to stop". I always loved it...but never seen him. One Saturday he was on Soul Train... I almost passed out.. he was so fine, of course, I was a teenager🤣🤣🤣. He looked exactly the way he sound. My dad hollered " Get back from the tv". Its like he knew what I was thinking. But on a serious note.. I Still love his songs.
Ya know I was able to scoop up most of Gino Vanelli albums in 2006 when Tower Records closed down. Him and his brothers are truly talented. And, shout out to the drummer Vinnie Coluiata on this album. He’s a bad m**f**🥁🔥! This whole album is baaad🔥
lol, Vinnie is something else. I can't remember who told this story, but someone, maybe Steve Vai?, went over the Vinnie's house to visit him, when Vinnie opened the door and invited him in, he asked him, 'you want a drum pad?', instead of, you want something to drink, like most people would commonly ask. lol, Vinnie was hard core drums.
Gino has a lot of great tracks. I saw them in concert many years ago in Jacksonville Fl, probably one of the best sounding concerts I've ever been to. His brother, Joe, on keys is awesome. Gino started off as a drummer, then they realized he could sing, so it was out from behind the kit. Other great tracks: Where Am I Going Storm At Sunup (I like the whole album really, this is the title track, came out in 1975) Appaloosa People Got to Move Powerful People Valleys of Valhalla Mama Coco

It finally dawned on me, Gino and Peabo ( Bryson ) are similar, IMO. Control, can sing a ballad effortlessly, belt out a tune with force and clarity, powerful and smooth singers. Both FTW!
Seeing your reaction to Gino, I would recommend George Michael "One More Try", official music video. I could tell the vocals were really hitting home here. Good on you!!!
With english lyrics this song should not be complicated to understand. Gino has Italians roots born in Canada and moved to California to make a music career. Break song in this world was " I just wanna stop" from 1978.
Gino is my favorite performer! I have all of his albums but one. It is the album after Brother to Brother which was never released because of a contact dispute with A&M records. That had to be a great recording and one that I’m sure many fans would like to see released. There was a single released that was advertised as “from the upcoming album”. However the album was never released. Anybody know more about that.
Gino is a nice Canadian boy who got the benefit in Canada of Canadian content rules. You might want to listen to some prog Rock. Song called Roundabout by Yes. 🙏🍁
Let's not start pooping on CanCon, it was a necessary process to build an industry in Canada dominated by the US. Out of it came artists, engineers, studios. When we were negotiating the first FTA, we tried to do something similar for the film industry which had well under 5 percent of films in theatres being Canadian. The US brought in heavy hitter Jack Valenti and the idea was killed. Compare major Canadian films with music, there is no comparison. Just the world renowned female performers alone that benefited from CanCon is ridiculous: Celine, Shania, Alannis, kd, Anne, Sarah to name a few.

I could see they were feeling it. They both started moving to the groove. GINO VANELLI was (and still is) amazing. 👍🏼👍🏼
one of my all time fav performers-grew up with Gino
What a wonderful and classy voice Gino Vannelli has.
So underrated…
One of the deepest songs I ever heard and one of my favorite songs of all time
Gino Vannelli was the first non-black artist to appear on Soul Train.
Wow didn't know that thanks for the knowledge
I think Elton John was the first in the early 70s-while Gino was about 1977 or 78.
Elton John was the first white artist to play on Soul Train on May 17th 1975 I Googled it 🤓
@@darrellmatz1111 Gino Vanneli performed on the show on February 15th 1975
@richardtorres6010 Gino was before Elton... Motown guitarist Dennis Coffey may have been the first non black artist..
More Gino reactions, please!!!
Listen to I just wanna stop. Another good one
He’s amazing then and still is! I get chills and goosebumps…. Love that gorgeous hair ❤
His voice is even better now!

I had to rewind...yup, sis DID say "DIE-pression" 🤦🏾♀🤦🏾♀🤦🏾♀🤦🏾♀

Back from when singers sang from the heart, backed by top notch musicians, unlike today with autotune and all this computer shite.

He was a young man who took the love of his life for granted and lost her. And he's suffering from utter helplessness. Not knowing where to turn.
