Once you go black you don't go back. But seriously, anything from the black album or before, they started to suck big time after that.

Chris Bush wrong. I was even being generous including the black album. All of the earlier albums were just raw metal of the day, after black they should have just changed their name to nickelback.

    • @Mark_Swan
      @Mark_Swan 6 лет назад +2

Chris Bush thanks for the compliment. But your statement isn't true. I enjoy a variety of genre's, not just metal, or thrash. I simply can't stand their sound after the black album. However, I will give an honorable mention for S&M.

Pass it on. Man I raised up to love all genres of music but my main love is rock and metal. A lot of people shy from metal mainly due to the new age screamo crap, that most old school metal heads hate also. You just gotta dive into the genre and find the love in it. I'm everything from Metallica to Tech Nine, to classical, to country. To love music for what it truly is you gotta understand all.

Johnny got his gun (1971) is arguably the most hopeless, depressing, darkest film ever made. It's a movie you won't be able to suffer through a second viewing without wanting to slit both your wrists in a bathtub.
It's about a WWI soldier who after he's hit by a mortar shell, is left with no arms or legs. No face, no throat, no eyes, no ears and completely unidentifiable. He can't see, hear, smell, speak or move. He's just a chunk of meat that continues to live and is thought to be as "unthinking and uncaring as the dead until the day he joins them" Only he can think and feel and is completely aware of what has happened and is happening to him, he just has no means of communicating that to other people, and people have no means of communicating with him.
The movie is from his perspective and switches from his dreams to his daydreams to his conscious mind, only he looses the ability to tell the difference between those states.
The most emotionally brutal scene occurs after a rat crawls into his bed and starts to nibble at his flesh before the nurse taking care of him discovers it and chases it away. He starts having nightmares of it eating him alive. In one of his dreams he's having a conversation with Jesus while Jesus is busy working wood in his Father's workshop. He tells Jesus about the rat and his inability to tell the difference between, the real rat and the rat he dreams about.
Jesus starts giving him advice like brushing it away, or screaming, or opening his eyes ... but Johnny answers every bit of advice with what makes that impossible. Jesus starts to look ashen with horror at the state Johnny describes himself as being. Finally Jesus says that sometimes people are so completely beyond saving that their misery is contagious and he would like it if Johnny would leave him now. He starts pushing Johnny out the door as Johnny begs him to answer one question.
"Am I really here with you right now? Are you even real?"
And Jesus responds with "I'm as real as every other dream that never came true."
Yeah, it's brutal shit like that. Not only has God abandoned him but his dream of God has too.
Metallica wrote the song based on the book the movie is based on, and then bought the rights to the movie to edit it into the song and music video.

Sad is too lightly to put what is going on actually... A man who lost eye sight, arms, legs, hearing...he can only communicate with his head banging by using morse code. It's a story about a guy who stepped on a mine in WW1. lets say truthfully how this story is, and sad is seriously too lightly, too naive. It's very horrible or terrifying, it's a horror of reality.

Imagine laying there, not talking seeing, hearing or anything. Just stuck forever with your thoughts til you die. The video is a brief recap of the movie, where he remembers he knows Morse code and starts talking to people.
It reminds me kinda of when I came out of a coma after I had a car accident back in '88, when I couldn't walk or talk for awhile, but I was in touch with the world, after a few weeks, it took that long after being in a coma until I slowly became more aware, but couldn't walk or talk for a few months. I was a Metallica fan then. They premiered the video for ONE I think it was at Midnight on New Year's, or something like that, I watched it from my hospital bed.
My favorite album and song. Every song on that album is awesome.

If you are wondering, the video clips are from a movie called Johnny Got His Gun. It's about a WWI soldier that awakens in a hospital bed after being caught in the blast of an exploding landmine. He gradually realizes that he has lost his arms, legs, and all of his face (including his eyes, ears, teeth, and tongue), but that his mind functions perfectly, leaving him a prisoner in his own body. He is literally living in a state of darkness. It's a movie worth watching.

Welcome to the Metallifamily! So many to choose from but here's some:
    - If you want another song similar in structure (starting slow/quiet and ending fast): Fade to Black.
    - Arguably their greatest song: Master of Puppets.
    - Straight up thrash: Fight Fire With Fire.
    - Slower tempo with rhythm and still hits hard: Harvester of Sorrow.
    - Most well known song: Enter Sandman.
    - The best of their recent songs (2016): Spit Out the Bone and Halo on Fire.
    - To see how good they can be live: any songs from Seattle 1989.

If you want to learn guitar jump on it my friend. The longer you wait the harder it’ll be. My brother is 13 years younger than me. My father, grandmother, grandfather, my fathers aunt, I even have cousin who is a big name in Christian rock/gospel and myself are all musicians. We all started as kids. So my brother always wanted to learn but never did. There were plenty in the family that could’ve taught him. My dad plays bass and Guitar. I can play guitar, bass, mandolin, ukulele and drums.
Anyway my brother never took any interest in it. Fast forward to now and he’s 31 years old and just bought his first guitar. He’s learned a little but it’s tough for him.
My suggestion is if you wanna learn go for it. It’s an absolute blast. I say all the time that nothing reaches across all boundaries, sex, race, age, languages, countries etc like music.
Nothing but music, in my opinion, can take you back in time. A song can come on from your high school years, or even to a date you were on a special woman, and immediately it takes you back to your high school times.
That’s playing it on radio. When you can play the music you love....man it just puts you in the year. It puts you in the band when you can play along.
Go for it man. You’ll be glad you did

I did watch that movie Johnny got his gun. I found it at Blockbuster I couldn't believe it and it even had tribute to Metallica on the cover of the VHS as before DVDs were around. The patient was doing the voice sound overs of his thoughts. When they brought him in to the hospital they thought he was brain dead but he was conscious as you and I are and when the nurse was unwrapping his bandages he was realizing that he didn't have any more arms and legs and you could hear his thoughts because he was talking with the voice over of saying how am I going to work without any arms and how am I going to walk without my arms and I can't marry my girlfriend she's not going to want me like this. And the only time he was happy was when he was dreaming because he dreamed that he was a full man and Donald Sutherland played God in the movie. Yeah I searched for this movie when this video came out because I want to watch the whole thing. Metallica before they even knew the book or the movie was around they thought about writing a song about someone who couldn't hear who couldn't see who couldn't talk and couldn't walk and then they came across the book and then the movie and they watched the movie and that inspired them to write the song the way they did and put the movie in the video they did. It's one of my favorite songs and I'm glad you're enjoying it. I think you need to react to Fuel by Metallica next.

Look up the video where Metallica played a show at the South Pole. They flew down there and played for about fifty scientists and technicians from all over the world on a solar-powered sound system outside. Without the lights and stage and all the concert bullshit, it is just them and their skills. Made me a fan

Music in the 80s and 90 was just harder. I am not saying better, but harder, more substantive, etc. Its just a sign of the times, music now is equivalent to glamour rock of the 80s and early 90s but Rap and Grunge and Metallica killed that sh!t. Music is cyclic, it will get hard again. I grew up on Hip Hop, but Metallica, Alice in Chains, Nirvana, those rock groups were dope. Props for getting turned on to this.

This music was awesome when it was at its peak never will we see this awesome side of music again people are just to stupid to realize the fun it was to pick up a guitar and be talented now people would just want to talk into a microphone and make beats with machines never will I respect computer generated beats

Nicolas Dane They singer blew his vocal cords, just like Meatloaf. That’s why things got softer after Master of Puppets.

This song is a favorite among combat veterans for obvious reasons. Another favorite is "Wrong Side of Heaven" by Five Finger Death Punch, you should do a reaction video on that one.

Great song to choose as an introduction to Metallica, I used to be a die hard fan back in my youth, though after the Black album I stopped following their new work, the old classics are definitely the best.
Love your reactions though mate, I’ve watched quite a lot of them the last couple days and to see you appreciate bands like Zeppelin, AC/DC, Black Sabbath, Metallica etc is great, I enjoy a wide variety of different music genres too, I’ve played guitar for quite a few years myself, and have a huge love for Hip Hop, I couldn’t just be tied down to one style of music, there’s too much good stuff out there. 🙂
