@@rochester7051 Yeah for me, depending on the mood I'm in, I bounce back and forth between Johnny Cash's Hurt and Disturbed's Sound of Silence as the best cover of all time.
Disturbed did to to Sound of Silence what Johnny Cash did to Hurt. They took an already powerful song and gave it a spine-tingling oomph that few covers ever accomplish.
Yeah, I'll have to find it but it was several, i guess higher ups in the recording process, that didn't really want to invest much into Johnny Cash doing that cover. Partly the age and the genre he was known for I guess. Goes to show in a way the whole "never judge a book by its cover".
What I know people that have heard the sound of silence disturbed version but don't know any of their other music I like plane down with the sickness afterwards that is shock and awe
So glad you felt it too. My son sent this to me and at 71 years of age, a 23 year Marine Corps veteran, 2 years continuous in combat in Vietnam in the late 60s ... I cried. Simon and Garfunkel sang out the warning but David Draiman drives home the rage and helplessness of humanity for not having listened to that warning!
Never done this before. We are the same age. Children of the 60’s who were there for Simon & Garfunkel’s original version of the masterpiece which has been my favorite song since it was first released. Your comments touched my soul. I can’t listen to Disturbed’s version without the tears streaming down by the middle of the song. No matter how many times I hear it the memories of the past 70 plus years stream by and I wonder what we’ve learned. In any event good luck brother and thank you for your service - although “thank you” is hardly enough to describe how I feel.
I've always loved Simon and Garfunkel and this was one of my favorites after Bridge Over Troubled Waters. When I heard Disturb version it became my favorite. You can't help but think about what he's saying and the feeling he puts behind it. Makes me cry, makes me think people should cut off TVs, games, and phones and just talk and listen to each other. To come together as the human race and not all the nonsense that's going on in the world today. Too many people killing each other, too many children going hungry, too much political bullshit! God bless those that have served this country and especially those that have died for it. We shouldn't let any of it be in vain.
I agree. What an incredible voice. I think David has that stand out voice in today's era that Geoff Tate of Queensryche had back in the day. He still sounds fantastic though.
Yeah man same! Ive watched like 4 reaction videos in a row, just to see what other people do when they hear THE part, and I got goosebumps 4 times in a row lmao
in the studio it was recorded that on that last note .he collapsed exhausted onto the floor ,,its a work of art this ,the music the video etc ,,i only know them from this ,,
@@eenavid I don't believe he "collapsed " after singing that last note.....his voice is too powerful....go watch him do this on Conan...he was sick and was worried how that live version was going to go because of him being sick and his voice messed up that day......just as powerful , if not more then here and he sat stoically, and didnt phase him...so I dont believe that
@@halfas05 I replied that same message a crossed 6 other reaction videos for this song, because it was one of the best answers ...and was just sharing it!! The ones that really got me..were the reaction videos that had a comment like... " I dont know what the song was about... but it was a very powerful song"....
David Draimon brought the haunting nature of the original out, but added a quiet rage that better reflected our current geopolitical climate. It is an amazing cover
This is the beautiful side of metal that most people do not get to see because they know it as a loud and vulgar style of music. Glad you got a glimpse into the lighter side of metal. I think you would be impressed by Nightwish's cover of "The Phantom Of The Opera" live as well.
Laurie Beth H - ha! If you decide to listen to slipknot please do this. Listen to these 2 songs back to back: Vermilion pt2 and then one of devil in I/psychosocial/before I forget. One of the things I love the most about rock in general is its range. You can easily listen to it for an hour and never hear 2 songs about the same subject or perspective. Few musical forms do this to my knowledge.
you know, the fact that bands make angry and violent sounding music it doesn't mean they're an angry & violent band. For example - Suicide Silence have a song called You Only Live Once which sounds very violent but has a positive message. The band sold Mitch Lucker's (the previous vocalist which tragically died in 2012) shirt that he wore in the music video for 800$ and bought toys for kids in Christmas with the money. The metal community is the most loving & dedicated one, despite all the stigmas...there's no "beautiful side" to metal, metal is beautiful.
DAYUM GIRL!!!! THIS is 1 of THE most honest genuine reactions I have EVER seen in 10 years on YT!!! Your reaction is EXACTLY what David was after. You didn't disappoint. People.....THIS is how you do genuine.
When Simon and Garfunkel sang this it was a warning, they could see what was happening in the world. This version is sung in anger because the warning was not heeded and now we are living in the sound of silence.
Geowyn Leda it was over in America by 1871, already sold out, if not sooner. You should learn real history if you aren’t aware of this, they don’t teach the important stuff in schools. Look up the secret 1871 midnight legislative session that most legislators weren’t even a part of, I think only six were there. America hasn’t been what people think it is for a long time. Generations.
I don't follow Distubed as a band and know next to nothing about them...why they picked this song to cover I'm not really sure..but I would sincerely doubt it because we are living in the sounds of silence...sung in anger? he uses distortion to a good effect vrs. the more sweet voiced parts...did you even listen to what the voice teacher was saying?
David Draiman was raised as an Orthodox Jew and his amazing voice is due to the fact that not only was he born with it, but he is also a trained Cantor. I've also learned that David Draiman and Disturbed addresses depression, addiction, and suicide during every concert, performance offering support and understanding. They are one of the most popular, beloved Heavy Metal bands! Diane ❤❤❤😊
I love David Draiman's voice. The range, the power... He can go from smooth and sensitive to raw and angry in one line. Amazing singer, I wish I could do that.
his voice is one of the most powerful voices in rock, voice is so much more powerful live. Alot of people do not realize metal bands get there inspiration from classical music.
I've seen them twice, both times i was lucky to be right smack in front... and im not a religious person, but when David Draiman tells you to put your fist in the air... all there is, is a sea of fista. he has the presence of a god. And it sounds crazy, but as a black chick, when i was 14yrs (in 2001), hearing Down with the Sickness changed my entire perception and possibly the course of my life. I mean... i could've been a Drake or bieber fan.
Yes they are vocal wise and musical instruments. And April I seen them once and idk what it is about him his voice gives me chills, but like many power house voices from Rock from the amazing women to the men there voices are so much better live!! I saw an interview where he almost didn't become a singer he went and got his degree for a business administrator lol swear this men needs to do a few Broadway shows I can see him playing the Phantom of the Opera.
So disturbed is a heavy metal band, but this guy (one of the lead singers) is clasically trained in OPERA of all things, this was his way of showing that off. (to our delight)
In an interview after this song was released, David said it had been twenty years since he had vocalized like that. He usually has the gruff thing going on as a Metal vocalist. Frankly, I am AMAZED at the purity of his tone because of how he usually sings!
@@Sparclen Dude, sometimes people type this shit without realizing others have beaten them to the punch on those other videos, and even if they did copy/paste it, who gives a shit? Don't be a dick, bro; let it go.
Disturbed are a Heavy Metal band. They have some pretty mellow songs too, Darkness being one. The singer's name is David Draiman, and (in my opinion) he's got one of the greatest metal voices I've ever friggin' heard.
To answer your questions, Disturbed is actually a four-piece band, their singer being David Draiman. He has that effect on people when it comes to his singing, especially with this song in particular. Fun fact, his grandfather is/was the head cantor at the main synagogue of Jerusalem itself, so he absolutely was born with this gift of singing.
Michael Ozayu My parents loved Simon and Garfunkle, so I grew up listening to this song. But I never UNDERSTOOD it until I heard this version. I've heard this version at least 100xs easily and it still brings me to tears each and every time. I can't even imagine hearing this live. I'd probably crumble to an emotional heap on the floor, and I'm not that kind of person usually.
Sierra Sugar the only reason it doesn’t bring mento such tears anymore is really because of overplay. That, and also I share the exact same sentiment being shared in this version: that nothing has changed and it’s worth being pissed about. But it is still a gorgeous piece of work and frankly had redefined Disturbed as much more than a metal band.
Love Disturbed thanks to this song. my son sang this to my brother on his birthday, we were leaving him a message and he came up with this out of the blue. My son nailed it and I thought he was a genius...of course (moms aren't always level headed) I hadn't heard it yet and he was like, mom...wth? its Disturbed.
Sadly they actually didn't win that Grammy, they were merely nominated (Best Rock Performance). Specifically it was for the live performance of the song, I assume on the Conan show.
A friend posted this song on her facebook when it first came out... and I almost hesitantly clicked on it. Disturbed is amazing at the hard rock/metal sound... I didn't know how it would jive with Simon and Garfunkle. Then this happened... I listened to it again... and again... and again. It took me half an hour to be able to wrap my head around it.
@@gr0uch02a that's what they were sayin, is when they do the "reaction" video to "Down With The Sickness". They didn't say that it was in this video, dude. Hell, they ain't ready for the switch up, with the cover of the Genesis song, "Land Of Confusion". Or, for that matter, their other song "Ten Thousand Fist's", or "Stupify", or even their song "Prayer". David Draiman was trained to be a Cantor Boy, when he was 5-6 year's old, as he went to church with his grandma...
No lies, I freaking CRIED when I heard this version for the first time. Simon & Garfunkle's original, while great, just had this kinda spaced-out quality to it. Like, they were acknowledging that the world is falling apart, but they've kind of resigned themselves to their depressing fate. Draiman and Disturbed are saying "Yeah, this sucks, but I'll be DAMNED if I'm just gonna sit here and do nothing about it."
me too. When I first saw they did a version of Simon and Garfunkle's 'Sound of Silence'. I was curious because they are one of my most favorite heavy metal/rock bands. And when David began the chourse. I could not stop my tears. Not many songs (especially remakes of classics) move me in such ways. But this version did.
Your reaction brought tearscto my eyes. This is EXACTLY what he wanted. And what Paul Simon wanted from this song. Wake the hell up people. As a member of the generation that grew up with Simon and Garfunkle's version, the message did not penetrate people's thick skulls. Maybe David D'd version will make a little bit more impact. It is mindblowing in so many ways!
I remember when I first hear David Draiman sing this for the first time. I turned to my wife Darlene and I said, "If Zeus could sing from his throne on Mt. Olympus, with bolts of liquid lightning dripping from his voice it would sound something like his vocals on this song." It's just unbelievable.
Their song "The Darkness" (I think it's off their second album, not sure) is beautiful. And their version of The Sound of Silence is one of the finest renditions I've ever heard. David Draiman has become probably my favorite singer out of the last couple of decades.
@Fred Johnson That's awesome. I became a metal head when I heard Metallica's Until it sleeps on their Load album when I was 15. Never looked back and don't listen to anything else now because nothing else has the soul that metal music creates.
I loved your reaction. I will turn 67 this October and have been a performing artist for over 40 years. And true to all artforms, when the time is right art penetrates into the passion and the emotional dark corners we like to think we hide from everyone and pretend don't exist in us. And then David with his hypnotic rendition of this song communicated to your heart and soul through his art of music. You're reaction was priceless. Thank you for your honesty and emotional response. Thank you for your beauty and your illuminating spirit.
When I heard Disturbed sing this song I thought “WOW”! I thought he would destroy this classic.....but,he blew me away.So much soull and energy. You could just feel the emotions this song gives you.Love it!
Been a Disturbed fan from the very beginning, and every time the come out with a new album they make me feel like that. David Draiman has an astounding voice.
Now imagine the affect that had on everyone when it was first released, and society was a much, much simpler way of life. Back then there were very few songs that even came close to this level of depth of soul. This was a truly transformational message in it's day.
Kevin Aylward This song was released the year before I was born. I grew up listening to it on Classic Rock radio. I love it on u-tube! Tears to my eyes.
I've seen a lot of reaction videos lately and I wanted to thank you for actually creating a real one. You didn't pause the music to inject yourself into the performance and you really did react. I enjoyed watching you enjoy the experience. It takes me back to the first time I heard it with a similar feeling.
His name is David Draiman, and he is as spiritually deep as his cover of *The Sound of Silence* He STOPPED A SHOW to save a woman's life as she was being crushed by the crowd in "The pit." He honored her by having her on stage as he continued to perform. I am a messenger through music. I have made people laugh, cry, and even change negative attitudes to positive... but I am easily forgotten, and that's okay. *David Draimon* can NEVER be forgotten. He was alone in the studio to record this song. He was so broken, his band had to make sure he was okay. THAT is *David Draiman*
That was pretty much my reaction when I first saw this video by Disturbed. Somebody had shared it with me. I thought to myself before I played it "This is gonna suck" since I knew the S & G version my whole life. Then from the start I sat there in awe, chills up & down my spine as I listened to arguably one of the best covers I've ever heard. I played it at least another 5 or 6 times that day. Pulled my wife in to hear it and she loved it too. No idea how many times I've played the Letterman video, too.
The sound is not the power.. The sound is only the conduit.. Its power of the words within the tone, to reach the darkness, within the soul, where true power lies. Even when I first heard the 2 men whose voices I heard sing this first when I was very young, and felt the words come from them, I knew it had power. Disturbed tapped that power. They knew there was something more to be unleashed. And to see another feel that power makes me shake. Cause I can feel it as I watch.
Spleenlicker Maginticutty You are misunderstanding..I said "the power is in reaching the darkness".. I didn't say it was the darkness.. We all have a darkness within. Try to read my words with less judgement and more comprehension.
David Draiman's voice is just....... just there are no words to describe his voice, his vocal range is outstanding. What I wouldn't give to have even a smidgen of that kind of talent.
The shock effect of a song called the sound of silence which is normally played as a subdued piece being blasted at you is very emotionally powerful and the classic line about neon gods being the climax is perfect. I have to say I prefer this to the original but not taking anything away from Paul Simons brilliant composing and lyrics
@@fayedunbar2912 hi Faye Art was indeed part of the duo and added much to their work but Paul Simon actually wrote the song The Sound of Silence which he originally called The Sounds of Silence.

If this song doesn't make you feel something, anything. Your dead. A lot of heavy metal now over the last 10 years or so now do almost like an intermission in their music, it's still metal mixed with classical with no words. Right off the top of my head Shadows Fall and In Flames come to mind
@@scottdavidson7001 oh don't worry it doesn't make me that angry just pulls me back to a time when a giant I didn't see booted me off into space. Followed by hello darkness my old friend.
When Disturbed did this cover live on Conan in 2016 Paul Simon posted a link to the video on Facebook and commented, " In case you missed it, Disturbed did a wonderful rendition of "The Sound of Silence" on Conan this week. The S&G cover also appears on Disturbed's latest album, Immortalized." Dave Draiman, Disturbed's lead singer responded, "Thanks so much to everyone for their kind words, and especially to Mr. Paul Simon himself. We did our damnedest to pay tribute to one of the most prolific, and legendary songwriters of all time. We are humbled and grateful beyond words."
It's a powerful message in the song itself as written, but Disturbed added such an extra intense layer of emotion over it all - sadness, solitude, empathy, a deep desire to save those silent people, and rage at everyone paying attention to their Neon Gods (technology, politics, entertainment, etc.) instead of paying attention to each other. Disturbed took this from the haunting folk song of Simon and Garfunkle into an unbridled walk through all the emotions that any person who pays attention in this modern age feels about the world we live in.
When you said, "It felt like he looked into my soul", I knew you got it. You're right, it is quite piercing....but that is the point. You are connected from the starting point for the message. Nicely expressed.
I found it interesting that you didn’t know who DISTURBED was, and I don’t mean that in a bad way. Most people dismiss them because they think “it’s just another metal band” but their lyrics are quite deep. Musically speaking, they’re amazing and David Draiman’s vocal range and control is just awesome... Great video by the way, I loved the reaction.
Robertson Thirdly there's Mine, The Warrior, and Who Taught You How To Hate just as a couple examples of good songwriting. Plus Sound Of Silence is a cover, originallyby Simon and Garfunkel
I agree Disturbed's version is the first time i heard the song and while Simon and Garfunkle's original version is phenomenal live Disturbed's is on a different level all together.
There are only two versions of this song that I like. The original, and this one. This guy has an unbelievable voice and an amazing ability to bring metal into this incredible song.
People are so speechless when they hear this song, it’s very spiritual. Silence to me here means so many things. The silence of tranquility and authenticity in the beginning, and the silence caused by materialism, urbanisation, disconnection…silence that “cancer grows” in the middle of the song, and the silence we need for us the hear the warnings and signs bringing us back to ourselves, the silence that is ourselves. This song is a prophet.
This might just be me, but it seems to me that the softer, more intimate songs that rock, metal and heavy metal bands sing, cover or make are always the best ones even though i'm always down for some head banging songs
Even most headbangers have a deep lyrical meaning that can make me feel like putty in the writers hands. The genres are more about message and feeling than anything material.
Vocally you have to be extremely talented and gifted for your voice to fit in a metal band. Some vocalists struggle with just regular singing, these vocalists go above and beyond, meaning when they sing "normally" they have extreme control over their voice and thus produce just staggering results.
i'm going to be unpopular for saying this -- but i genuinely think the simon and garfunkel version is heaps better. I genuinely like the singers voice from disturbed and the cover but i dont think he tops the original at all.
Richard H They have a completely different sound and atmosphere to it. It will be a matter of personal preference. Both are very well made and I think they will work perfectly for different themes if you get what I mean. The original is sung and played like they intended it to sound.
This version of Sound of Silence brings tears in my eyes every time I hear it. The way David’s voice builds up to the finale. Gosh! Words can’t explain it. You just have to let it in and it takes over your mind and body! Man! He has some amazing pipes! That voice and those piecing eyes
I’ve watched you react to this video many, many, times. It is SO moving. Thank you for being so transparent and truthful in your response. It hits a perfect cord with me! Keep being you!
You just saw one of THE most powerful music videos that I've ever seen. That performance was spine tingling the first time that I saw it and still does something every time I've watched it. Whew !!!
There are rock songs that have inspired me. There are rock songs that have saddened and moved me. There are rock songs that have pumped my adrenaline, and those that have enlightened and empowered me and made me think. But this is one of the very, very precious few that have actually moved me to tears.
I never used to watch reaction videos and then I watched this one. This is by far one of, if not the best reaction video I have ever seen! The genuine feelings and the way you are moved makes me come back and re watch it. There is something so special about watching someone be so moved by what they are seeing! Fantastic video, you rock!
Your reaction is beautiful! I have heard this song hundreds of times and I get chills and tears every time. David Draiman's voice sounds just like this live and he engages with the audience like no one I have seen. I love seeing others hear this song for the first time. 🙂
David Draiman grew up in Brooklyn, NY, the son of a cantor in the local synagogue. He started singing early on. Paul Simon (who wrote this) said this was BY FAR the best cover of it. Simon said it made him CRY!!
Drieux Koeppel Could you tell where you got the info on Paul Simon's reaction? I've been curious as hell about what either of them thought about it. I kept telling myself, they HAD to like it, how could they not!! I only ask for source because....internet :)
Your reaction is just like mine the first time I heard it!!! I've love the original song for 5 decades, 1964... a turbulent time of war, social unrest and Paul Simon's song was about Vietnam and the carnage of 1.5 million total deaths...US racism, KKK ,Lynchings, and the murder of Martin Luther King... the Cold War genocide... and the disenfranchising of youth and their feeling of total alienation by governments. Hell!!! We were even protesting about the mass slaughter of seals and dolphins, whales and rainforests, and Corporate and governmental greed!!!! I'ts all in there, and it's so very very relevant today! Against the backdrop of the then new counterculture 'rock' bands torturing guitars, voices and eardrum to express their anger and frustration, and it became as iconic as Jimmy Hendrix's, "Star Spangled Banner" at Woodstock only 5 years later. Paul Simon chose his protest in allegorical poetry form, and set it to sad wistful music. Disturbed have chosen to say it differently... the message is the same but the quiet sorrow song has now turned into a screaming rage of helplessness and despair so much in key with today's world. Brilliant!!!!
I am a child of the 60s. This rendition of “The Sound of Silence” captures, in my opinion, the peaceful intent of the Flower Children and the angst of the Vietnam War era. They begin with almost an angelic vocal that transforms itself in to the horror and almost demonic splitting of the American culture ending the Vietnam War. This interpretation is very powerful, for those of us who grew up during that time and captures the “feelings” that pervaded our culture.
FYI, he's not enhancing his voice in the studio, he really is this good live. Disturbed and Linkin Park were some of the best bands I ever saw when I was a teenager, they were amazing live.
I've watched a lot of reactions to a lot of songs and have never commented, for various reasons, but this girl has what a lot of others are missing. She's animated and funny and honest. She 'reacts' doesn't just sit there and move to the song or keep saying "oh my god, so good." Love the sincerity in her reaction and had to laugh at the beginning when she turned away from his piercing look into her soul.
I am certainly not a reaction video fan as most are just wank. But you could see the emotion from this girl, like, wtf! That is what you want to see, and this cover definitely brings that out.
Or maybe she over exagerates her animation knowing that fan tards will up vote the video. She sees how popular the video was and wanted to leech off the millions of views the original video scored.
It's too bad, that Disturbed is too commercial and hollow to carry the song's weight. Also David, does not have an operatic voice... he should have just done it the "Disturbed" way, not this mish-mash of the two. Puddles the clown, did this song right, by actually *HONORING* the sound of *SILENCE* ... I especially appreciate the way Puddles ending the song.... much more meaning and emotion in his...
I really don't like Hard Rock Music....but Disturbed-[The Sound of Silence] I love this song...and 3 days grace-[I hate everything about you] and Power man 5000-[Action] those are the only songs I love....but I am mainly a classic rock and country guy....but man...I love that song...it really makes me cry...
I disagree I thought his range was impeccable, I believe David genuinely felt a great deal of emotion when performing this piece. He has most definitely touched my soul and for that David I thank you very much, every time I here this piece it gives me the chills. Awesome rendition of a very well known and loved song from yesteryear. Keep up the good work.
This song resonated in the minds & souls of millions and millions more. It still does. We must never forget the reason it was written; after two world wars, the Cold War literally threatened the existence of humanity. The arms race with two warring super powers vying for control, each ideology trying to gain control of a Europe divided, in ruins, bereft of generations, after WW2. History is such an underrated subject. As a former teacher I lament that fact.
Well said. Also the Korean war hadn't ended long before '63, and Viet Nam was in full swing, Kennedy may have had just been shot (same time frame from what I can tell.) Many influences at that time. History with Orwellianism.
"Who is this guy?" Disturbed is one of the best selling bands (not a single guy) with 5 consecutive albums debuting at number 1 on the billboard top 200.
For some reason, I am attached to this version by Disturbed. I find myself watching the reviews, and Dee KNOCKS it out with her emotional response. Fun to watch her facial expressions during the song, as well as her comments after. Great vid, and thanks for the honesty!

Simon and Garfunkel's version was a warning.
Disturbed's version is rage because the warning was ignored.
Jody Tegge you should give credit to The Lavian for saying this exact comment first on a different reaction video for this song. Good try though.

David Draimon brought the haunting nature of the original out, but added a quiet rage that better reflected our current geopolitical climate. It is an amazing cover
Someone pointed out to me that the original was a prophecy and this cover was anger that the prophecy became true.

I so agree. I love the original, but this dude, found an even deeper, more visceral, way to express this song.
I'm almost 50 and this song by David makes my eyes water and gives me chills every single time
I hardly think it's a question of age... music is music. Any time, place, genre, age. The one perfect universal language.
I'm almost 60 and it does that to me!! I don't care for metal at all, but, somehow, this just doesn't qualify as metal!
I have listened to this many times in repeat, and I always get goosebumps. Every single time
Yeah, no need to qualify anything with age. This shit is ageless. Or timeless if you prefer.

This is the beautiful side of metal that most people do not get to see because they know it as a loud and vulgar style of music. Glad you got a glimpse into the lighter side of metal. I think you would be impressed by Nightwish's cover of "The Phantom Of The Opera" live as well.
x666xIronMaiden or slipknot snuff.
Laurie Beth H - ha! If you decide to listen to slipknot please do this. Listen to these 2 songs back to back:
Vermilion pt2 and then one of devil in I/psychosocial/before I forget. One of the things I love the most about rock in general is its range. You can easily listen to it for an hour and never hear 2 songs about the same subject or perspective. Few musical forms do this to my knowledge.
Nightwish are superb. :)
you know, the fact that bands make angry and violent sounding music it doesn't mean they're an angry & violent band.
Wow youre here too? :D

Geowyn Leda Nicely put.
What in the name of all the gods are you talking about? What was over in America by 1871? My post was about The Sound of Silence.

I can... but not while singing.
his voice is one of the most powerful voices in rock, voice is so much more powerful live. Alot of people do not realize metal bands get there inspiration from classical music.
So true. It has been said the metal is just classical music played faster and louder.
Also a lot of metal vocalists are classically trained
Yes they are vocal wise and musical instruments. And April I seen them once and idk what it is about him his voice gives me chills, but like many power house voices from Rock from the amazing women to the men there voices are so much better live!! I saw an interview where he almost didn't become a singer he went and got his degree for a business administrator lol swear this men needs to do a few Broadway shows I can see him playing the Phantom of the Opera.
Power Voice= RJD
So disturbed is a heavy metal band, but this guy (one of the lead singers) is clasically trained in OPERA of all things, this was his way of showing that off. (to our delight)
Stephan Ginther he is the only singer....
In an interview after this song was released, David said it had been twenty years since he had vocalized like that. He usually has the gruff thing going on as a Metal vocalist. Frankly, I am AMAZED at the purity of his tone because of how he usually sings!
metal has its roots in classical music
He trained as a cantor for Jewish religious ceremonies.
More than half of the vocalists of metal bands I listen to are trained in opera, it's not an uncommon thing.
God: David do you want a voice of an angel or demon.
David: Yes.

Disturbed are a Heavy Metal band. They have some pretty mellow songs too, Darkness being one. The singer's name is David Draiman, and (in my opinion) he's got one of the greatest metal voices I've ever friggin' heard.
Disturbed has done quite a few covers like this and they're ALL amazing
David Draiman has such an amazing voice. The video of him warming up while singing Unchained Melody is truly amazing.
A Strange Guy I agree 100% Disturbed is one of my favorite metal groups
Oh, Amazing is not a strong enough word for them!
another good voice is Korey Taylor, he docent use his mellow voice much with slipknot but with stone sour he does.
To answer your questions, Disturbed is actually a four-piece band, their singer being David Draiman. He has that effect on people when it comes to his singing, especially with this song in particular. Fun fact, his grandfather is/was the head cantor at the main synagogue of Jerusalem itself, so he absolutely was born with this gift of singing.
finaly!! someone fkn said it!!!
My son nailed it and I thought he was a genius...of course (moms aren't always level headed)

No lies, I freaking CRIED when I heard this version for the first time. Simon & Garfunkle's original, while great, just had this kinda spaced-out quality to it.
James Row the true power is within the light, not the darkness.

The shock effect of a song called the sound of silence which is normally played as a subdued piece being blasted at you is very emotionally powerful and the classic line about neon gods being the climax is perfect.
I have to say I prefer this to the original but not taking anything away from Paul Simons brilliant composing and lyrics
Lee B , Paul Simon and Art Garfunkle.

Art was indeed part of the duo and added much to their work but Paul Simon actually wrote the song The Sound of Silence which he originally called The Sounds of Silence.

Thomas Neal ‘’
Just absolutely brilliant!!
Nailed it 👍🏻
Why do i have to cry everytime i hear this song?
It's a powerful message in the song itself as written, but Disturbed added such an extra intense layer of emotion over it all - sadness, solitude, empathy, a deep desire to save those silent people, and rage at everyone paying attention to their Neon Gods (technology, politics, entertainment, etc.) instead of paying attention to each other.
Disturbed took this from the haunting folk song of Simon and Garfunkle into an unbridled walk through all the emotions that any person who pays attention in this modern age feels about the world we live in.
Because it's the only proper reaction, and the song is THAT good.
this version of this song just Forces tears out of you...
Perhaps you cry because you know deep down, no one listened to Mr. Simon's warning in the song when it came out.
Every time I hear this I have tears streaming down my face this is so powerful beyond words
When you said, "It felt like he looked into my soul", I knew you got it. You're right, it is quite piercing....but that is the point. You are connected from the starting point for the message. Nicely expressed.
You know they do rehearse like 30 times before the "reaction"? Its all about the likes and subs

People are so speechless when they hear this song,
it’s very spiritual.

MystikAura yeah

I just watched you get your mind blown. That was fun.
Because the darkness of silence haunts us all deep in our souls
Said perfectly.
Right he just crawled into her soul and tore her down to the bare emotions.
I loved her reaction to the song. ❤
That's how we all feel about it.
Such a strong, powerful emotional song.
Nice to see someone else that actually is touched by the music and feels the music and not just listens to it, bravo!
Dsmwarrior1996 lmao. I teared up first time I heard this cover.
Joshua Lynam ya, I have to admit I shed a tear or so, it is a powerful song sung powerfully
Ya know, I have said this before. Watch the live version..... You will not be disappointed.
Especially when there two singing it
@@Danno1983 Definitely. The live version with Myles Kennedy is amazing.
Or the version with miles kennedy
sean stewart watch live with Myles Kennedy, the harmonics are off the charts. Truly fantastic
The one on the Conan show is the best
Beautiful reaction. That rendition really takes you through the entire range of emotions
I agree. If a person doesn't feel the emotions in this song, I'm not sure if they can feel at all. Very powerful stuff.
Really takes you through the entire range of David's voice. :D
“And in the naked light I saw...”
Dee: *mild climax*
I thought it was neon light
@@TriggerHappy923 na that was the "a flash of neon light stabbed my eyes and split the night" the verse prior
Of the many, many reactions to this song --- THIS is by far my favorite.
I seen a few so far yo this song and hers is the best one yet. Seeing the video fir the first time gave me the same feeling it gave her
same
I never used to watch reaction videos and then I watched this one. This is by far one of, if not the best reaction video I have ever seen! The genuine feelings and the way you are moved makes me come back and re watch it. There is something so special about watching someone be so moved by what they are seeing! Fantastic video, you rock!
Sad..haunting...and Fury all wrapped up in one song.
Drieux Koeppel Damn.... It did me the first time I heard it
I believe it was Chicago
KS Highlights the BAND is from Chicago. That’s their base. Draiman himself is from BROOKLYN.

NO SHIT???????? THAT IS SO AWESOME HE SAID SO.
Drieux Koeppel
Could you tell where you got the info on Paul Simon's reaction? I've been curious as hell about what either of them thought about it. I kept telling myself, they HAD to like it, how could they not!! I only ask for source because....internet :)
Never heard of Disturbed? Time to get down with the sickness!
brucenatelee oo-wa-ah-ah-ahh!
We are disturbed
My brothers and sisters, My blood.
Brilliant synopsis of the song..both versions!!!!!
@@malina08266 Thanks :)
Nicely done thanks for sharing.
@@scottym9778 Thanks :)
Probably one of the best cover songs ever done, S & G should be proud.
Ha Re Finally a comment I can like! Amazing cover, but nobody can do it like S&G. Ever.
from what i have heard they really liked disturbed´s cover.
Purest reaction ever, I love this girl ❤️😍
I love you baby
I have to say when you said it felt like he looked into your soul, i SCREAM laughed so hard😂😂😂
This version was a little too dramatic and theatrical for me, s&g definitely the best
God asked David if he would like the voice of an angel or a Demon...
He said yes.
David Bilpush that is amazing!!! Exactly right! LMMFAO!
This song is so deep really deep hit hits every human across the world 🌎, deeply motivating
I really don't like Hard Rock Music....but Disturbed-[The Sound of Silence] I love this song...and 3 days grace-[I hate everything about you] and Power man 5000-[Action] those are the only songs I love....but I am mainly a classic rock and country guy....but man...I love that song...it really makes me cry...
deus vult
I disagree I thought his range was impeccable, I believe David genuinely felt a great deal of emotion when performing this piece. He has most definitely touched my soul and for that David I thank you very much, every time I here this piece it gives me the chills. Awesome rendition of a very well known and loved song from yesteryear. Keep up the good work.
It is a great song. Simon & Garfunkel wrote it.
SargonnasIncarnate brilliantly worded!
Well said. Also the Korean war hadn't ended long before '63, and Viet Nam was in full swing, Kennedy may have had just been shot (same time frame from what I can tell.) Many influences at that time. History with Orwellianism.
Thanks for commenting on my message and I appreciate it a whole bunch and means a lot to me because I am former military
@Sean Mello As am I. Afgha '07-'08. I salute you, brother.
"Who is this guy?" Disturbed is one of the best selling bands (not a single guy) with 5 consecutive albums debuting at number 1 on the billboard top 200.
That's mostly what I thought, you have to be living under a rock to not know Disturbed at all...
She thinks disturbed is his name hahahahaha that was kinda painful to listen to.
For some reason, I am attached to this version by Disturbed. I find myself watching the reviews, and Dee KNOCKS it out with her emotional response. Fun to watch her facial expressions during the song, as well as her comments after. Great vid, and thanks for the honesty!
His name is David Dramin and the group he is with is called Disturbed. You have to be dead not to feel something when you hear this song.
I'm amazed that Disturbed is considered a heavy metal band. I always just considered them hard rock but I understand they blur the lines.
Strung Up the older numbers are HEAVY as fuck. Like the game and droppin plates.
They are actually pioneer's of a genre called nu-metal. Bands like P.O.D. are included anything thats more like rap/metal genre
Strung Up Breaking Benjamin and Three Days Grace are hard rock. Korn, Disturbed, Limp Bizkit, RATM etc is metal
They actually don't consider themselves as metal so much as they consider themselves hard rock.
Strung Up stricken and the whole 10k fists Album are pretty metal
That's Disturbed girl! A metal band.
