The more of Max I see off the race track the more I like him. He’s more level headed and contemplative than one might think of such an aggressive driver. On a separate note, concerning the conversation about watching F1 then and now, I’m just as enthralled today as I was when Senna and Prost battled it out between them even though they were Honda team mates (showing my age, I know). Yes, the cars are different but the action feels the same, exhilarating. Thanks to all for doing this interview, it was great to share in.
The look on Max’s face when DC said that he got cross with his son for not doing well in the car about broke my heart. Max’s mood immediately changed to a severe look of concern. Clearly he doesn’t care for such an approach. Tender-hearted?
Truly one of the best F1 interviews I have ever seen. Well done David, to let them talk and wonderful to hear those stories about the 'journey' they are still on.
Never seen such a free flowing and natural sports interview. More of a conversation and "shooting the breeze", rather than an interview. Great stuff! Never knew DC's mind was that far in the gutter 🤣🤣
But as for the actual subject I always thought in GT3 you want to uzilize the ABS and you want to go 100% braking power for a large distance of the braking zone. So was the guy Max was arguing with actually and he was wrong?
@@TheHidalgo99 I think in GT3 cars drivers do use 100% braking to reduce braking distances. But a driver like Max who can extract everything from car, ABS is not really necessary because of his incredible pedal feel on brakes and braking efficiently late without locking up kinda linear braking where you warn brakes a bit and then grab them hard. So I guess both of them (Max and Guy with whom max was arguing) are right in their own ways but in the end lap time is the ultimate truth.
One of the best interview driver related videos I've seen in a longtime and great to hear intelligent questions and the fun energy between father & son, please do more of these, so much fun and David is a natural interviewer who puts guests at ease quickly and that's a gift for this type of presentation.
Just love how Max has been toned down a lot compare to the interviews he had back a few years time but has also shown certain egos in between. Great interview, no bias interview and all that, just talk about all racing from a driver perspective. Pure joy to watch this.
@digs2000 fair that you reviewed it but his father would have pushed him far beyond the average father towards what he did, and the methods he used - in professional karting making him utilise slicks when it was raining just so he would literally have to find grip or he would crash/hurt himself. It has helped max a great deal, but in no way has he had an easy life, nor an easy path to finding himself (which to his credit he has done, and extraordinarily so).
@@gt3basics995 that's why Jenson Button was soo good in the wet too. His father couldn't afford any wet tyres so he had to use slicks when it was raining. Apparently.
I enjoyed this a lot! Watched Jos win the Marlboro Masters at Zandvoort and than go on to F1, remembering the birth of Max being announced, and now watching him go through the same motions as dad, that's just a delight! I love to see the proud moments in Jos his eyes looking at Max! They are still the best of friends and that's just awesome.
There was a contest among the drivers last year to name in reverse order the F1 champions, and see who could go back the farthest. Vettel finished first, but Max finished 2nd, and both finished way ahead of the other drivers. Of course that doesn’t necessarily mean anything, nor does should it reflect someone’s passion. It was just surprising for me that Max did so well. Either he has photographic memory, or more likely he has genuine love for the sport.
34:50 you first see the face of Jos the racer, envious that his son has more innate ability, and then the face of Jos the father who is immensely proud of his son
@@barcegt1728 max is absolutely better. That's a fact, however, claiming the second Benetton car to be good is a bit of an overstatement. We all remember how Jos got all the crap from Ross Brawn. Michael was their main man and you could clearly see it. ;)
@@barcegt1728 Michael apparently had the illegal traction control software in that benetton though. I heard Jos asked Flavio Briatore about it who immediately didn't want to go into it
Funny to see that almost every F1 driver feels alot more comfortable getting interviewed by (eg) an ex F1 driver instead of some random journalist. Max is a great example of this,. I think he hates getting interviewed by someone who has less knowledge about the sport.
I have to say, this is one of the best interviews i've seen in a long time. DC has done a great job. He is down to earth, funny, relaxed, and creates the best atmosphere. Lots of great info about F1 from the Verstappens. I'm a big fan of Max!
Awful team. 3 big ego’s would never work. Le Mans is still real racing, no room for protected little celebrities. F1 is no longer about the ultimate driver; it is budgets, and politics. Verstappen clearly has favoured status as a no.1 driver, and Red Bull have a long history of protecting their number 1 driver at the expense of the number 2. Verstappen only got the drive so early because of politics, and his Daddy’s connections. If all the cars were even he would not be at the front.
Absolutely heartwarming, a delight in every way. I wish I had just one memory of my father looking at me with that sense of pride, I'd probably sleep better and not have such a short fuse.
The way Jos looks at Max when he's talking, you can really see & almost feel as a viewer how proud he is as a father & they share such mutual respect as race drivers... Just awesome!
Brilliant interview. DC makes a great interviewer, just as great as he is a driver, pundit and commentator, he's a valuable asset to F1 and I hope he keeps himself involved with it for years to come
Being Dutch and so proud of their directness. They are their own biggest critics and as hard on themselves as on others. Love watching three people talk about something they are passionate about!

What an absolute joy to watch. Had a big smile on my face watching the parts where father and son talked about being competitive. You can tell they get along very well, a few little digs at each other here and there. And as a fellow Limburger recognised a lot in their use of English, mannerisms etc. Great fun.
Great interview. I really hope Max gets a chance to fight for titles. Than again, if he ever gets in the fastest car, the races would be even more boring. He is in a league of his own really.

I have seen 100's of interviews with F1 drivers and families but I must say this has been the finest question and answer session with really good questions I might add, that I have seen ever. Thank you for doing this interview. I really enjoyed it.
I absolutely love this interview -Questions were really interesting -Amazing interviewer, he was so kind and professional -Meeting the Verstappen more deeply. They have so many physical expressions in common. Lovely father-son relationship.
Even when the questions were prepared this was 'just' a very open & honest conversation between 3 racing drivers who all respect eachother. Great to watch! With this sort of stuff and his humor, David can become a F1 media icon apart from being the already achieved F1 icon he is!
Finally a NORMAL INTERVIEW! Thank you David Coulthard! Finally something without all the "hype" around it. This was a joy to watch. The hour flew by and I'm sad it's already over.

This was better than any interview I've seen with a contemporary driver for many years. A fantastic job by DC and the Verstappens were very open and made it very enjoyable. It's great to hear that the old school F1 mentality lives on within such a young driver. Well done to everyone!
This was more interesting than most races in F1. Usually I don't like to watch any interviews, but this was fun from start to end and I've always liked Verstappens, now I like them even more, really down to earth people.
Jos and David seem like good friends meeting each other once after a long time while Max had to accompany his father because he isn't allowed to stay home alone.
❗️Very good conversation. Couldn't agree more with Jos about the difference between F1 "back in the days" when it comes to car handling, difficulty, toughness, no data, not managing the car to the finish line but just pushing like racing is supposed to be. I've seen Jos and Max on the go kart tracks for years, working their asses off, just unbelievable and so much respect. Jos made sure that Max has got as much as possible out of his natural feeling to feel everything and push everything out of a car. That's the reason why no teammate can keep up with him. Next to that, Max is such a down to earth dude. Very generous and not arrogant at all. People mistake that sometimes with "very confident", which you need to be as a racing driver, or any athlete for that matter. So much respect for the Verstappens. Hopefully we'll be able to enjoy them for a very long time.
Yeah, but you have 3 guys sitting at the table that know what they are talking about, because they have been there/from experience....I think that this common nominator will make the interview a lot more easier..
Not very sure if the parenting skills of Jos are the best (understatement), but this spartan way of creating a race driver paid off. Happy for both of them this way suited Max as a person, I can imagine it could also break a child different to Max.
I always find Max a bit distant or even arrogant in interviews but this interview shows that’s more down to the stupid questions he normally gets asked by stupid journalists(Ziggo I’m looking at you). This was a very insightful interview, definitely one of the best driver interviews I’ve seen in a long time, very wel done CarNext and David!
Very good interview. I have been a F1 fan since i was a boy (now in my 50's) but i have never seen a driver like Max. He is one with the car like he is at home. Opposite to that he still is himself. Older but thats all. Keep it up Max, your a joy to watch. You will become worldchampion 9 times!
CarNext thnx for this great interview, on of the best so far with Max and his Dad. Love the stories Jos told about the preparing Max for F1. Don’t know how you pulled it off but this was a great talk. Thnx again.
Braking less and later, it seems that Max can give his father Jos some lessons now. :) What a great interview, it would be a shame if Jos did not get his own car show, given how much he loves cars and driving i think it will be a joy to watch.
Thank you CarNext. So much better than the TV interviews. Are looking forward to this race? Are you gonna win? Do you think you have a chance. How happy are you. What is you're favorite collor. Make this a every year season review.. Loved it
Great interview. Max is very mature nowadays a true professional, but a very talented driver. I think he will be more successful than Hamilton. He's one of the few if the only one, who adds something to the car. Red Bull needs to provide him a winning car. He's like a machine programmed to win. Max The Terminator.
I used to be scared to watch Max, but he has become, without doubt, the second best driver in #F1. I absolutely respect Max. With a worthy car, Max can give everyone a fascinating race.

He denied the allegations saying: “There has been an altercation, yes, that’s all.” Then, in January 2012, he was arrested for attempted murder following claims that he drove a car into his ex-girlfriend in the Dutch city of Roermond.
He was released after two weeks in jail when the charge was withdrawn due to a lack of evidence.
This whole video is Jos and David saying "Well Max, back in our day...".
Great video of these 3 having a candid chat
Lol 😁😁😁 agreed!
he weirdest thing for me is this! A man called Chritian Von Koenigsegg has technology that is way beyond F1 ????/ WTF YIP Thats a FACT! he doesnt race his cars but yet he has Tech that is so far ahead it makes F1 look like a Dinosaur!!!! WTF YIP its True his cars are faster than an F1 car???? YIP FACT well his cars are not the only road going cars that are faster than f1 cars there are many, So you have road cars that are faster than f1 cars driving on the Road haha doesnt make sense does it!!! His cars have something called Direct Drive ???? it means the car does not have a gear box , no clutch no flywheel?? No Starter Amazing but true! His 4 Seater HYPERCAR puts out 2300 Horsepower, with 4 seats, and space for 4 carry on luggage, AHHH YOU F1 ENGINEERS NEED TO START THINKING OUTSIDE THE BOX THATS WHAT CHRISTIAN DOES!!! GOOD LUCK YOU ARE WAY BEHIND I SAW 2 HYPERCARS BEAT AN F1 CAR HANDS DOWN HOW EMBARRASSING! AND LIAM LAWSON WAS DRIVING IT HE IS A RACING DRIVER, THE OTHER 2 CARS WERE DRIVEN BY NON RACING DRIVERS AND THEY STILL MADE THE F1 CAR LOOK LIKE ITS GOING BACKWARD WTF!!!!!! HAHAHAH THAT IS SO FUNNY BUT ALSO EMBARRASING IF YOU ARE RACING DRIVER GETTING BEATEN BY ROAD WITH TURKEYS BEHIND THE WHEEL HAHAHA
Amazing how tuned father and son are to each other's capacities. The competitiveness is feelable and Max still clearly has a lot of respect for Jos
Not a big fan of Jos, but I love the pride and adoration he has when looking at Max.
What a breatth of fresh air with regards to subjects.
Genuine and no political correctness.
Love it.
Max has being my favourite driver for the past five years. Such a great driver and personality. Hoping to see him be the world champion one day.

The look on Max’s face when DC said that he got cross with his son for not doing well in the car about broke my heart. Max’s mood immediately changed to a severe look of concern. Clearly he doesn’t care for such an approach. Tender-hearted?
max has been through the same thing in his childhood
Truly one of the best F1 interviews I have ever seen. Well done David, to let them talk and wonderful to hear those stories about the 'journey' they are still on.
Yes, He asked the question and then let them talk. It was more like a conversation quite excellent.
Never seen such a free flowing and natural sports interview. More of a conversation and "shooting the breeze", rather than an interview. Great stuff! Never knew DC's mind was that far in the gutter 🤣🤣
34:51 Jos looked proud and jealous at same time when Max was explaining ABS braking.
I was looking for this comment! It melted my heart haha.
So I guess both of them (Max and Guy with whom max was arguing) are right in their own ways but in the end lap time is the ultimate truth.
hahaha yeah, so true
😂
One of the best interview driver related videos I've seen in a longtime and great to hear intelligent questions and the fun energy between father & son, please do more of these, so much fun and David is a natural interviewer who puts guests at ease quickly and that's a gift for this type of presentation.
I honestly never ever watched a better interview than this. Funny, and very informative. Highly appreciated.
Now this is what an F1 Interview must be like. Straight talk and no political bullshit... Max & Jos is just F1 Class....
Just love how Max has been toned down a lot compare to the interviews he had back a few years time but has also shown certain egos in between. Great interview, no bias interview and all that, just talk about all racing from a driver perspective. Pure joy to watch this.
What a wonderful interview. So great to see that Max obviously appreciates both the two former F1 drivers whilst at the same time being his own man.
Max showed his not a puppet, with his comments last weekend and it’s good to see. 👍🏼
@@Tegneaufreak Exactly.
Apparently.
@@kevo1978 interesting! But that is very different from Max's situation... His father could afford it for sure 😂😂

Some people study for years to get to the level DC is at and this guy is just a natural man its nice to have him as interviewer
3 (ex)Formula 1 drivers talking about it, that’s real interviews, not those media persons picked out of a basketball field or something
34:50 you first see the face of Jos the racer, envious that his son has more innate ability, and then the face of Jos the father who is immensely proud of his son
All I see is an abuser who shouldn't be allowed near a paddock.
@@DiscoStringHit relax. Jos beating her was always just for fun.

@@RadioTurfsteker Jos was in the 1994 Benetton, that Michael won his first championship in. So they both had good cars. Max is better Than his dad
Jos created a Jos 2.0, with the benefit of the mistakes Jos made, in Max's own words..
One of the best interviews. Felt if I was sitting there with them.
Thats because of all the dirty jokes lmao
Would be a great le mans team David, Jos and Max.
They lose big time they are still storytelling @ coffeemaker.
Too OP
I would bet on that team 😂👍🏻
@@guydavies3035No your right he will be so far a head he will @ home watching the rest finish.
The way Jos looks at Max is so lovely. He is a proud father, you can see love and adoration in his gaze. Just beautiful.
And so became Max Worldchampion.

With that jaw line he looks more like Batman from the Animated Series. His initials are also D.C. . Coincidence? I think not!

What an absolute joy to watch. Had a big smile on my face watching the parts where father and son talked about being competitive. You can tell they get along very well, a few little digs at each other here and there. And as a fellow Limburger recognised a lot in their use of English, mannerisms etc. Great fun.
Proper interview. The best I've seen, make this a series with other drivers
Great interview. I really hope Max gets a chance to fight for titles. Than again, if he ever gets in the fastest car, the races would be even more boring. He is in a league of his own really.
Thats y half of the field needs to be competitive.
I think after lewis retires, Max will dominate. I dont know if he'll stay at redbull or if by then they will really close the gap to Mercedes but yeah, he will definitely at least win 1 championship
He definitely would make the races very boring if he had a Mercedes lol.

I absolutely love this interview
-Questions were really interesting
-Amazing interviewer, he was so kind and professional
-Meeting the Verstappen more deeply. They have so many physical expressions in common. Lovely father-son relationship.
It just can be seen that Jos loves Max so much and how proud is he. Simply lovely! 😁
Even when the questions were prepared this was 'just' a very open & honest conversation between 3 racing drivers who all respect eachother. Great to watch! With this sort of stuff and his humor, David can become a F1 media icon apart from being the already achieved F1 icon he is!
Jos and Max are both rain masters on the circuit.
You kind of have to be, to survive driving in what is locally known as the Frog country. Rain is never far away.

This is an excellent look into the Verstappen family dynamic. It's fun to watch them in a real, relaxed setting.

Wow, a natural and really interesting interview. Top marks.
My view of Max has changed after watching this interview... This interview was fun to watch 😊

Not very sure if the parenting skills of Jos are the best (understatement), but this spartan way of creating a race driver paid off. Happy for both of them this way suited Max as a person, I can imagine it could also break a child different to Max.
