Having to act an adult at 10-12 years old as a coping mechanism for survival. Pressure makes diamonds but it can also burst pipes. Salute to Toto for his strength & perseverance
He’s one of the few that rise. Normally in this scenario when the child has to be more than he is/fill a hole because they have lost their dad - it leads to someone who will just “pretend “ to be more than they are this leads to all sort of adult problems (dishonesty/insecurity/over compensating etc). Good on Toto. And thanks for mentioning the Abyss - a great visualization of how one feels with anxiety
@@Wavelover33 Do love his candor about this; he strikes me as a Viktor Frankl type, and notably without much in the way of 'toxic positivity' (aside from an F1 team boss' need to keep sponsors happy 😅)

I got so emotional watching this. One reason I had difficult childhood and mentally went through (and still going through) similar mental breakdowns, downs. Also because of Lewis and Toto are my favourite people. And understanding they went through tough times like this. Thank you so much for doing this podcast. Toto’s approach is rooted in clear communication, a relentless drive for excellence, and the ability to stay calm under pressure. He’s not just a leader; he’s a master at creating a culture of teamwork and resilience within Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team. 👏🏽What I particularly admire is his emphasis on learning from both successes and failures, and his ability to make tough decisions while keeping his team’s morale high. In a sport where split-second decisions can make or break a season, his calm, measured approach is a true example of high-performance leadership. 🙏🏽What stands out even more is how Toto inspires hope in others. Whether it’s after a setback or in the face of challenges, he knows how to lift his team’s spirits and motivate them to keep pushing forward. 😀His belief in his people and his unwavering optimism are contagious, and that’s what truly sets him apart as a leader. 🌍He doesn’t just demand results; he builds the environment that fosters them and gives people the hope and belief that anything is possible with the right mindset. Literally the podcast I've needed. Amazing life advices, amazing management advices, I don't care about F1 drama (as I see 99% of people came here from DTS or looking for soap operas) so I find this the best podcast I've ever watched. The way Toto thinks is magic.
Thank you Toto for sharing your life experience with us. As the presenter said, it is a strength to share this publicly and as you said, it gives hope to people who are going through difficult moments that they are not alone and that the road to success is not always the easiest. What a character, what a man. Great interview.
I stumbled upon this conversation. I shared it with the rest of my family. Not just because we are F1 fans but because it talks about what we all struggle with.
The other day I was thinking to myself, it'd be nice to have Toto back with proper mic and all. I appreciate the video you guys made during the pandemic, but you need that studio mic for Toto's voice. So thank you for doing this.
Always loved Toto - alot to learn from this man... to me, he is the best Team Principal in the paddock.. no doubt..! Wish I could work for him some day..he would be my dream boss..!
Great. Just great. Clearly Toto is a practitioner in critical thinking and reflective practice. Interesting to hear he is plagued by self doubt (which helps him to avoid the trap of hubris)
His leadership qualities and approach to problems as well as the respect he has for his employees and people are mind blowing. What a brilliant mind set
What a fantastic interview. Great to hear such open an honest discussion around mental heath in such a high performance environment. Great work from Jake interviewing. The new Parkie!
What an excellent podcast. Jake did a brilliant job of listening and then asking great follow up questions. Really top notch journalism, sadly absent these days. I suspect that Toto enjoyed the interview to the extent that it must be therapy. Great stuff.
A true interview. One that doesn't have bias or weird self serving comments from the host, and though that further highlighting Toto's hard work and process.
Adrian said that he re-evaluated Silverstone, not the entire 2021 season. He went from angry and being harsh on Lewis to just saying it was Lewis' fault for being opportunistic.
Lewis fired Mercedes. They have had 3 years to develop a fast paced competitive car. Toto is trying to change the narrative as though it was his decision. Ferrari finds value in having Lewis join their team. Sponsorship upgrades, Ferrari stock is up, more fans, merchandise sales rising. Ferrari has a 7 time champion driver and Mercedes doesn’t.
Toto deserves everything that he has accomplished but i can't put aside the feeling that there are so many people over the world that have had traumatic experiences and less than perfect upbringings, but they never had the chances that people from a rich family had, so i'd like to take this moment to give a thought to the people that weren't as lucky to grow up in a wealthy family or being at the right place at the right time, because there's people in the world that are maybe even just as strong or even stronger, but just never had the luck to be able to accomplish something more than a regular job in a sowing company, or a regular job as a mechanic in a Renault garage. I don't have any hatred towards people like Toto, they are in the spot because they deserve to be there, but i always feel like they talk about it so easily and act like they had it so tough, while there have been people who have it waaaaay tougher and never even come close to an F1-team, and those people are never in the spotlight, while they would work just as hard or even 10x harder, but just have never gotten the chance to prove themselves, just because they weren't wealthy growing up or not had the connections that they had, i know he doesn't want to act like he's had it the worst, far from, but i feel like people like this never talk or notice the people that had it so much worse, they always speak about themselves, but never about the guy next door that was struggling to even buy a bread from the baker's. Rich people always say: "Money doesn't buy happiness", but not having any money makes you UNHAPPY, ALL THE TIME, And then if you just get $1 to be able to buy a bread, or a coca cola that you haven't had the chance of tasting for over 2 months, that is happiness, even if for the rich money doesnt mean happiness, for the poor it means everything. He's saying things like the worst things in his life was when things didn't excite him, when he was doing things that he didn't enjoy. Well i hope Toto reads this and takes a moment to think about the fact that some people HAVE TO do a job that they don't enjoy, they have to do a job every single day without quitting even tho it doesn't excite them, to keep their children fed, or they will be homeless. The rich always have it easy talking about how bad their life was. But their worst is probably still better than any poor guy's best.
Thank you TOTO for being so open. So this is what i think will happen in the next 2 years in F1. Louis will retire, max will retire and pursue other interests. George Russell and Lando Norris will fight it out for a championship. And you will find a new team principal, but still be working in the background.
This isn’t called depression. It’s called being a man. Good times, bad times, we get up good or bad and we fight. Every day. And that’s why our women and families love us. We’re selfless and we fight no matter what.

I found this interview by pure accident and watched it until the last minute. Great interviewer who listened to every answer and asked some superb questions. thank you
Nice interview, love the depth of Toto and willingness to open up.
‘Play hard, forgive quickly, apologize when you’re wrong’ wtlb 💕
Thank you so much for this interview and for all the work you do. I love this channel and every time I think the next interview can't get any better than the one I'm watching. Well, guess what? Thankfully I'm always wrong.
Anything can happen in Formula 1 racing, and it usually does!

My heart was broken for Lewis in 2021, I hope he has the chance to win one more :(((
He will. And when he does all the f1 commentators will come in their pants
Liberty fixed it for Max in 21,
Maybe payback is a Lewis WDC with Ferrari in 2026.
Can you imagine the merch sales for the team, Lewis and the clicks for Li$erty media?
@@Wavelover33It's Interesting that ppl _(including the so-called expert pundits & Media)_ are NOT focusing on the fact that in the past 2 years, 20% of Mercedes AMG F1 Workforce have left to go to other Teams. 👀 Whilst there's always constant movement of personnel to other Teams, 20% of a workforce leaving is a shockingly significant amount!!! 😳
Something is intrinsically wrong within THAT team & now their star driver is leaving & being treated abysmally‼️
You have to be deaf 🙉 dumb 🙊 & blind 🙈 NOT to see! _(btw HATERS are in a exclusive toxic category of their own)_ even non-supporters are now commenting publicly, stating what is now glaringly OBVIOUS!!!
Among the 200+ staff that have left, there are some BIG Named KEY PERSONNEL _(some of whom were in agreement with SLH's feedback on the car, and who were ALL IGNORED by TOTO)_.
So now they're making SLH drive that DYSFUNCTIONAL TRACTOR to test it, whilst giving Russell the better set-up in a bid to deflect from their abject failure, as well as ARTIFICIALLY make Russell look good! 🧐
▪︎ LOIC SERRA _(now Technical Director at Ferrari)_
▪︎ JEROME D'AMBROSIO _(from 1st Oct 2024 is second in command to team principal Fred Vasseur, & is responsible for the Ferrari Driver Academy)_.
▪︎ MIKE ELLIOT left in 2023 - _(is on Gardening Leave)_
▪︎GIOACCHINO VINO _(Chief Aerodynamicist)_ is now on Gardening Leave
▪︎ MICHAEL KEEN _(model technician)_ and DARREN BURTON are leaving Mercedes. Michael Keen after 7 years ... & Darren Burton after 22 years. GO FIGURE‼️🤔
@@SDDT24 are you going to to discount every other time max was rough with Lewis?
lol
The interviewer is just excellent, keep the work up man!! Really appreciate it !
Excellent. Just thank you both. Joh
Very nice interview! A bit many simple "what's your" "what's a" questions but every f1 principal interview is such a gem! thanx a ton!
I disagree, the simple questions invite the people to talk, to elaborate, to open up. very specific questions can lead to very narrow or short answers
This dude is a real mensch....fascinating interview. Thanks, mate....
I really enjoyed this podcast! Thank you! 👍👍👍
Literally the podcast I've needed. Amazing life advices, amazing management advices, I don't care about F1 drama (as I see 99% of people came here from DTS or looking for soap operas) so I find this the best podcast I've ever watched. The way Toto thinks is magic.
Great interview. Thank you for this🙏
28:01 I absolutely love the perspective from Toto. That’s the mark of a great leader.
Thank you Toto! It's always an absolute pleasure listening to you. You are such a strong person and a great man ❤❤❤
I respect this man so much
Thank you Toto for sharing your life experience with us. As the presenter said, it is a strength to share this publicly and as you said, it gives hope to people who are going through difficult moments that they are not alone and that the road to success is not always the easiest. What a character, what a man. Great interview.
Great conversation Jake. How much time do you devote to research? The flow of the conversation is fabulous 👌
I stumbled upon this conversation. I shared it with the rest of my family. Not just because we are F1 fans but because it talks about what we all struggle with.
☺Thanks this great interview from Toto Wolf 👍✌Enjoyed it ❤💯 Fantastic job and Wishing you the best ☕🍫🌹🏎🏁
Toto is one of the greatest personalities in Formula 1!
Really appreciate the power the episode brings to me.
Wow, my respect for Toto, just heading to the peak. Respect is all i can say🙌🙌🙌
Was a interesting meeting ...thanks !!
Great. Just great. Clearly Toto is a practitioner in critical thinking and reflective practice. Interesting to hear he is plagued by self doubt (which helps him to avoid the trap of hubris)
His leadership qualities and approach to problems as well as the respect he has for his employees and people are mind blowing. What a brilliant mind set
we should apply Toto's view on not blaming individuals and looking at the problems better and apply it to our government and politicians.
Where’s the evidence that it works? Mercedes is a complete shambles at the moment.
I did not know this story behind the childhood of Toto. I think he became a very strong person because of that.
He was not the only one we all had to stop in 2020 but as least the weather was lovely
Guess the Senna quote lol
Wow, to hear the very human struggles we all have, is so enlightening considering the level of success achieved…thank you!
You too Toto, always remember that.
Loved that! Thanks for sharing Herr Wolff.
I really liked this episode. Such an important topic.
I'd love to see Mark Mateschitz on this pod in the future
Who cares what a nepo-baby has to say?
Lewis fired Mercedes. They have had 3 years to develop a fast paced competitive car. Toto is trying to change the narrative as though it was his decision. Ferrari finds value in having Lewis join their team.
Sponsorship upgrades, Ferrari stock is up, more fans, merchandise sales rising.
Ferrari has a 7 time champion driver and Mercedes doesn’t.
Toto comes across as very mature and well spoken
A masterclass of a great leadership with human values.
one thing I realize abt these F1 guys is that they are super productive n operate on high level, yet they talk abt it like its normal n relatable
This was great insight. What a man. I always liked him but did not knew what man of man he had become and how.
Great episode, made my day and my mind
Such a class act
Awesome interview right THERE. Thanks Toro👊
Fantastic interview of one of the best manager of a F1 team.
Just bought the book. Very scintillating convo!
Total respect for Toto, great man and a great inspiration for all of us.
Jake, excellent interview as always.
His greatest strength is Susie she has the Scottish trait of poking the bear. Keeps him real.
Finally!!!
Wow the interviewer is actually pretty decent
"Feeling the vibes" - Toto Wolff 2024
Toto is a very amazing man
Very open and honest podcast and upmost respect for Toto and think Lewis moving on is probably the best move for him and for Mercedes too
This was very interesting! Anyone knows when this was actually recorded?
What a man he really are toto wolf💙
