He was so genuinely humble. I find that introduction he made of himself at the end of the interview was so moving. Any other driver would have said something selfserving, and probably a bit pompous. Despite Mr. Coulthard prompting the young Verstsppen to present himself as world champion he just said about himself "I like to drive in circles and we had a very good day yesterday". It was a genuinely modest view of himself and of his enormous achievement, and a good humored joke on his choosen career. No fake modesty, no calculated or premeditated wording. That transpired through the whole interview. A Great Champion indeed.
I like how Max's tone changed completely when discussing simracing compared to the regular questions about real life racing. He loves it so much and appreciates DC talking about it
@@petr6258 Max plays iRacing where you have to race under your real name and are ranked by how clean and fast you are. Sometimes Max races under his dad's name but mostly his own, and he gets just about as much attention as you'd expect haha

I haven’t seen max on the sim, but I assume he’s extremely quick, I wonder how he likes the W12 in iracing. Would be cool to see a video of him driving that lol
Honestly David… GET YOUR OWN SHOW ALREADY!!! The last interview you did with these two was just as great as this one. You can tell, the way they react to you, being a former racer yourself, everything is just better. I watched this 4 times already. So please man, get some other racers in that chair and get going, maybe with CarNext as a partner? Love it!
It is truly awesome. Now this is already looking like a staple at the end of each season, Max and Jos already had a good relationship with David. Should definitely consider producing his own content, DC.
Well said! He is so humble....and here I am still considering David Coulthard as one of my favourite F1 drivers back in the days, especially his personality as a F1 driver towards Press and such. It's really good how he minimizes the amount of information considering he own F1 career (only to use as an introduction like the kind of wheels you put under the car). It's also great to see both Coulthard and Jos Verstappen respond very humble and open to eachother while they exactly know already how stuff is going in the F1 car for Max. Even when they are from "the old age" of F1 driving.
This is the advantage of being a race car driver let alone an ex- F1 to do an interview for a newly crowned Champion. All the questions are so precise and interesting to listen. David is one of my favorite f1 driver and a very good sports journalist.👌 👌 👍 👍
To add to that, David Coulthard is a family friend of the Verstappens. Which makes interviews with DC and the Verstappens magic. They all are just very direct and open and very far from politic correct.
He is very charismatic, seems to be genuinely interested and he interacts with his guests, acts on the moment. It's not just his F1 knowledge that enables him to do that, far from it. It helps, definitely, but he's much more than 'just' an ex-racecar driver. I've always liked the guy - as a Dutch man, ever since I was a little kid. Never really thought about why I felt that way about him specifically, but this interview made it very clear to me. His pace, his intonation, gestures, questions. It's like watching/listening to some extraordinary symphony. Pleasing, in a word.
You are just joking, and I too don’t like those kind of parents, but Jos is truly seeing that Max is the better man (compared to his father) That at least is a credit to him.
@@hajduzsolt2276 an unhealthy brain process you got going there lol. Great to see a proud father who enhanced his son's enthusiasm for his life passion
Jos drove Max to Italy when Max was 5/6 years old. They went off on Friday and came back on sundaynight. The dedication was massive. He was though for Max (we saw that in a docu on the Dutch tv) but it was worth it. Well deserved WC for Max this year.
Dude does a triple header and goes right back to the sim after each and every race just to relax. It's insane the amount of time he spends on track, real or virtual.
what most impresses me, is the modesty with which David Coulthard positions himself in this interview: notice how he lets Max explain to him - enthusiastically - what it's like to drive in Monaco, almost as if David is a random guy in the street, instead of a former F1 driver. Great stuff
Think what you will about Jos, but there's nothing better than accomplishing a life goal and having your father there to celebrate with you. Especially a father who paved the path for you and encouraged you the whole way.
recently people coming with the narrative of "Jos probably hit Max a lot" don't know what they're talking about, in fact he likely never physically abused Max, and mentally they have had their struggles but it's not been that bad as father-son as portraited. Great relationship
@@abcxyz123 in a dutch documentary ab max max told how his dad treated him sometimes and yes he did hit Max sometimes. But not in an abusive way, it shaped max how he is now and made max so that he’ll never give up. Max has his head in the right place, very balanced, its like nothing can touch him. I dont think any of the previous greats where so matured at 24. Thats a multiple world champion right there
DC is one of the great wonders of F1 in last 30 years, crazy underrated by today's public perspective. World class driver at his peak who won on Goodyear, Bridgestone and Michelin rubber (unheard of) and was contending to win races for nearly 10 years straight. Beat Mika twice (who is one of the best drivers of all time) and was strong teammate to young & growing Kimi (also one of the best). Deserved more but had the hardest competition. I follow F1 since I was a kid and now I am 68 years old. My first hero (and still is) was Jim Clark. His dead was so sad. Then came Niki Lauda, Sebastian Vettel. They where special for me. And now offcourse Max, I am Dutch as well. 24 years old and he surprice me everytime, first his driving offcourse. But 24 years old and so cool, so intelligent, unbelieveble. I saw this vlog several times and it surprise me everytime. Now 2 time WC and if he has a good car this not stop, till he says, I stop, want to do other things. I wish him all the best in his live!
DC is an excellent interviewer. Speaks with passion, very modest when looking back at his own career and inquisitive when it comes to understanding how it feels for the latest generation of racers. F1 is lucky to have him as a representative for the sport.
When Max talked about his cramp and the pain on the last lap reminded of when Ayrton Senna won his home Grand Prix in Brazil with pain and exhaustion and how both drivers kept at it and never gave up. Congratulations Max! Well deserved.
Ok... As a Brazilian, I don't think it's a fair comparison. For the beginning, we need to remember 2017… when Max said this, about F. Massa's mistake during a qualifying session: "he's Brazilian... There is nothing to talk about".... So.. no.. Senna it's not like Verstappen.
@@dsjunges Because he said that about a brazilian, he's not like Senna? That means he's not like Senna anyway cause he's dutch and not brazilian :D. I think there is only 1 Senna. Yesterday, I saw a reaction of F1 fans in Kenia. Two of them were wearing orange, others were wearing full Red Bull attire. Some Mercedes fans too. It was amazing to see the enthusiasm the sport has gained all over the world. I do think Max plays a big role in it.
It’s so great to see that Max is genuine and focused on being a racecar driver. Not a fashion icon, not a spokesperson, not a walking ad….but a driver. That’s what people love about him, he’s real and relateable in this modern world we live in of fake people that are always trying to sell us something. Super Max, the Champ!

This was an all-around great interview. I still can't believe he's doing endurance sim races in his down time mid-season --although it does help to explain the skill gap between him and the rest of the field. I also can't believe how genuinely decent he seems, given his age and success.
Like Lando said before in interviews that he flys home after a race, then goes straight back to sim races. Crazy to do a 24 hour sim race 1 day after a F1 race haha.
Max seems to get a lot of hate from Ham fans of his big ego but I tend to not see what they are talking about. As you said, he is young and successful and should naturally be proud of what he has done. But to me he doesn’t seem big headed

@@kelvinpeake493 you’re taking way to crazy, the stuff you write talks about you more then anybody. Masi made 3 controversial decisions in that race, first with the overtake. Second with not letting lapped cars overtake on 56th lap. In my 17 years of watching I never remembered once on a dry race where you get cars in between leaders. Also you can check ,if you got F1 app on 55th lap there’s a few seconds where they show the truck taking away the car and marshals finishing sweeping the track, then switch to Lewis’s onboard and by the time he arrives to that corner truck and marshals are not even on the track, they’re on the gravel just about to go over the fences. 55th lap still and on the next lap 56th Masi comes up with the decision ‘lapped cars NOT allowed to overtake ‘ and if you check onboards you can see on that lap no one one the track anywhere and lapped drivers confused asking ‘why they don’t let us go?’ If he did what was expected we would have the same scenario. Then he let only 5 cars but he could easily let all 8 as 3 wouldn’t make any difference. But he panicked and made crazy decisions under pressure, same thing happened in Bahrain and it cost Max a win. But you’re to biased to realize that. 6 laps to go and light crash like that restart was gonna happen. I watched many safety cars with 3-4 laps and that’s it. I know it’s hard to accept your guy losing but Max didn’t cheat otherwise he they would give Lewis way harsher penalties and Max no penalties. Which didn’t happen at all. I have to say I m not a F1 "die hard fan", but I watched this whole interview, because I wanted to meet the man -and his dad- behind the championship. First of all: what an amazing interview by Mr. Coulthard. He just had the dialogue flowing like a river. And then the father and son. I would almost say they are normal and very balanced human beings. No real looking back in negatives, no real looking forward in positives either. No name calling. Just a world champion that likes "to drive in circles", and is living in the now. Amazing interview! Loved it!

That was a really good interview. Without racing fragments and still glued to the screen the whole time. A 40 hour preparation for a 24 hour sim race in his spare time while Lewis probably flew of to Milan to sit next to the catwalk. That is what got him this victory in the end……
Also .. I love how Jos always "How we", "when we" .. and Max does the same. That father-son relationship, which roots in racing, is what won Max his first. edit : Jos might be the next Helmut Marko.
It's cool when Max says this about his father because he helped him to get there but it's weird the other way around. I have a strong feeling that Jos lives his dream through his son. This would also explain some of his anger issues.

His questions, his wit, his way of talking, his own experience as a racing driver, is making David the person host for such a show. Thumbs up!
The interview is good. It could be just spot on if David could have introduced some questions about checo max relationship and how important he was a part of his journey to becoming the world champion. Team work moments like in French gp, Austin, providing a tow for getting a pole in yas Marina, checo lewis battles in turkey and of course the legendary defence in abu dhabi. Max could shared some good insights about how he feels about checo as driving the second redbull was like a curse and max was the only one single handily making up for the redbull. Of course Daniel also had good moments but getting checo in the redbull is the real checkmate redbull played
It was Perez first season in the car...he had some great drives and was huge help to Max last race, but in my opinion he is also the reason for Red Bull Honda losing the constructor title. Hopefully he will be more like a Coulthard or Barrichello to Max from now on...
You should watch the Dutch interview Max did with Ziggo. They showed him the full clip of Checo holding up Lewis and it was amazing to see him reacting to it. Full of praise. Many people don't realize (or had a chance to see) how good Jos was himself in F1. He had the bad luck of being in F1 when a driver basically had to pay for it himself and he didn't got the backing to do so which resulted in him driving for backmarkers insead of McLaren, Ferrari, Benneton or Williams
And lets not forget, the F1 cars weren't equal even when you were driving for the same team. Schumachers f1 car had some electronics that weren't supposed to be there.
@@boontjes5528 Jos himself also admitted that, in hindsight, he shouldn't have started at a frontrunning team like Benneton, but rather start in a less performance driven team to allow himself time to learn and grow. Despite Mr. Coulthard prompting the young Verstsppen to present himself as world champion he just said about himself
"I like to drive in circles and we had a very good day yesterday".
It was a genuinely modest view of himself and of his enormous achievement, and a good humored joke on his choosen career.

@@davidpayne2192 indeed ….. Lewis has such a dull personality
Spot on, agree 100%
To add to that, David Coulthard is a family friend of the Verstappens. Which makes interviews with DC and the Verstappens magic. They all are just very direct and open and very far from politic correct.
Yes
He is very charismatic, seems to be genuinely interested and he interacts with his guests, acts on the moment. It's not just his F1 knowledge that enables him to do that, far from it. It helps, definitely, but he's much more than 'just' an ex-racecar driver. I've always liked the guy - as a Dutch man, ever since I was a little kid.

Thanks for that. Let’s do that next year, keep each other rising.

David is in a class by himself. It’s amazing how good these interviews are. I hope you will continue doing them. Lewis and his dad next perhaps? It’s easy to see how your brand could end up being the canonical interviews of great racing drivers.
An incredible fine balance between feelings - father and son - and racing. Some interviewers try to take the focus. Here I loved the balance where knowledge and former experience blends perfect. Respect for thar interview.
This was a real pleasure to watch, me being Dutch, but left Holland over 30 years ago I assume that I can say Max, you made us Dutchie's proud. Thanks for that. Congrats Jongeman. 😊👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

This interview was really that we would like to see. Family, racers and Max Verstappen...the most brilliant champion in F1 in this thoughtful year....epic 👏.
So happy for Max, Red Bull and his family. This was the best ending ever.
What? Winning a race not out of skill but because the race coordinator changed the rules to suit Red Bull on a whim? Left Lewis like a sitting duck on old tyres. Cheap victory.

The fact that not even engineers know why their car can go fast on a track where it shouldn't be is the magical part of F1
That magical part is called Max. He makes the difference 👍🏻
It's great to see Max as a World Champion! Always stay grounded and humble Max and us fans will love you for it :)
What an awesome interview. Honestly such a great, close season. Yes some luck at the last race, but also a lot of bad luck especially with 3 dnf's. If not for them he would have won it with a few races to go. Total respect and well deserved title.
What an Amazing interview it is!
This young lad is truly a very humble guy and down to earth guy, but when the vision down- is an absolute racing monster. That’s a so fresh look of the F1 Champion, who talks about sim racing with even more interest then real racing😂 And I hope people will finally understand that Max don’t have a “special driving style”,it’s all about his adaptation to every characteristics of a car. Again, thank you David,CarNext and of course Max and Jos for this great hour I had listening to this interview🙌🏼
Wonderful interview. I would like to praise Mr. Coulthard for being an excellent host. Creating this excellent atmosphere has to recognized for future debriefs of any race our championship. Max and you to Jos : Well deserved!!
What an amazing interview! Really happy for Max and his father. I still not believe after almost a week, that Max is the F1 World Champion :D
Max is one of the most naturally gifted drivers in F1 history. Easily the most exiting driver since Senna, I hope he goes on to win many more titles. 👊👊

That was a really good interview. Without racing fragments and still glued to the screen the whole time. A 40 hour preparation for a 24 hour sim race in his spare time while Lewis probably flew of to Milan to sit next to the catwalk. That is what got him this victory in the end……
Messi just wants 2 play ball. Max only wants 2 race. Ronaldo and Lulu want attention.
@@GStealer666 : His "anger issues"? I wish I had a dad like that. Trust me ... his "anger issues" are not that bad.
I'm really not sure Jos should want to be in that position. It seems like lately he feels keeping distance from the team and weekends is just the best and it's hard to retreat from that position
@@theGoogol i dont know your situation, but I think in a normal relation, ou wouldnt want your dad to let you walk home when you messed up a race. Making you a world champion, sure it helps. but yeah, i do not wish I had that
@@skeletonmodel Max laughs about it. Tells the story fondly with that characteristic twinkle in his eyes. The only dad of a dutch racing driver who had real anger issues was Robin Frijns' dad. Interestingly Robin is known for slacking off.

This is stellar! David is awesome as an interviewer, the whole setting, the questions, the end, it was round all around! I allready watched the first interview that David did last year with Max and Jos and after that I was thinking that CarNext oughta give David his own show where he interviews racing drivers, engineers, team bosses, or even other interesting personalities in the car or racing business. His questions, his wit, his way of talking, his own experience as a racing driver, is making David the person host for such a show. Thumbs up!
Max Verstappen the fake world champion! NEP WERELDKAMPIOEN Max Verstappen!
Really hope that interview gets some English subtitles for internationals. Cause honestly, this interview was great but the Dutch one is even better
@@Nienke131 You can click on CC and get subs. In 'settings' you can change the language to English. Note: the translation is done by a 'bot' and they don't always know jargon or accents and such.
@@Nienke131 I felt here Max is more talkative than in the Dutch one. But there were some nice moments in that one, with him reviewing race video moments, of course especially when he gets emotional
I think ppl are hyping Checo's season a little bit because of the last race, in fact Checo himself has been disappointed in his season and it really wasn't great overall. However, a few moments stand out, deserve all the praise and gives hope for next year when everyone starts somewhat from zero
“How fucking good is that?!?” - David Coulthard. 😅 Just dropping those casual f bombs at the end like an absolute madlad!
I get it but I was kinda disappointed to be frank... David always struck me as more of a gentleman, the way he usually talks and carries himself, and f-bombs are a bit unworthy of him.
We need more interviews between drivers and ex-drivers, only they seem to know how to ask all the right questions that gets genuine interactions and answers. This interview felt comfortable and almost felt like 3 competitive guys chopping it up! More of these please!
Fantastic stuff! Awesome interview, DC is a great interviewer and Max seems mature and a gracious winner. Well deserved Champ 🧡🧡🧡
Thank You David, Jos, Max & CarNext! Best F1 interview of 2021!!
I love how refreshing this kind of interview feels compared to modern f1 coverage
So spontaneous, relaxed and just… human
First of all THANK YOU! for giving us an incredible season.
I mean what a journey with you and your father. I imagine all the nights in the camper, rainy days at the karting track, emotional meltdowns in between, all the night drives on the highway with you sleeping next to your dad on the passenger seat. Finally you are here. Ask, believe, receive. I have a strong relationship to my dad as well and totally feel it. You deserve it.
I watched Jos racing my self as I grew up in the Michael Schumacher era and remember a lot of really strong races like Malaysia.
To be honest, since Michael, no driver gave me so much joy to watch until you came, because you are driving and fighting your heart out and because you are straight.
I’m sending so much orange love to both of you and your whole family! I hope one day we will meet in the garage. ♥️🙏🏼🔥 PS: SUPER MAX!!! 😁😁😁

Brilliant interview for a tense season. I've been rooting for Max for ages and buzzing he's finally got there. Also great to see his respect of the Sim racing community. He's well respected on iRacing and plays himself down even though he's mega quick on the Sim too.

What a proud father Jos Verstappen is 🧡

Great interview. David does this so well. He really has the ability to get close with these guys.
He basically had the bad luck of being the teammate of Schumacher when he entered F1. Comparable to Sainz when he started as a teammate to Max.
@@boontjes5528 That has been a major factor as well, I agree.
This is how Max ended up in Torro Rosso, cause Jos more or less demanded a minimum 2-year deal so Max could use the 1st season to learn and get used to F1 and the 2nd to show his potential.
