- We live out in the county and losing power seems to happen more than we care for. We found an affordable way to have a back up plan if we were to lose power for a long period of time. This was the first time we run the Predator 9000 generator and tried out our Generlink.
Check out other products we use: www.amazon.com...

With ALL the stuff you powered up, now I know a 9000 gen will be big enough for our house. THANK YOU.
It did way more than we expected! Thanks for watching!
This is definitely something we need to consider buying at some point! Thanks for the info and sharing!
It’s a easy and less expensive solution for us! Thanks for watching
Great video wanted to see what the Predator would do as I have been looking at different systems. The one thing I notice is how loud it is as I was expecting a bit less than that. Thank you for showing your set up and test.
Thanks for watching, yes the open frame generators are much louder but that is a small price to pay for power at home. Plus the Predator is incredibly inexpensive for what you get.
Great Video! Pretty much answers all the questions I had thank you
Glad it helped! We have been able to use this set up a few times already(even in the summer with AC!) worked great!
Is your water heater gas fired, or electric? You should post an update in the description that has a list of what you're running and how many watts for each, so viewers have a rough idea of what you're powering in the house.
Water heaters are both propane
Thanks for the informative video. Looks like you have a nice set up.
Thanks for watching! We have another video tomorrow that will shows us coming home to no power and having to us it.
The issue is not about using 240v, it's all about the amps. They have two models. A 30-amp and a 40-amp. I would only get the 40-amp unit.
When turning on loads be aware of the amps being connected! You can easily turn on more than 40 amps (per leg) with a larger genset and not trip the genset breaker. Especially when using 240 volt devices. Check the amps being consumed on the 240 volt appliance label! Many people are oblivious to power consumption.
I do not recommend using the Generlink with an All-Electric house.
Thanks for your input. Our house is a combination of propane and electric. Thanks for watching!
That is a giant Predator generator!! Makes our 3500 look small lol 😂. We will definitely be enlisting your help for our Barndo build!!
We’re in!!🤘
Great demonstration. I have a Predator 6500 and the same Generlink setup as you. I haven't tested it out yet, but this video was a perfect demo for showing people how to test their system. Have you used the Bluetooth app that tells you when grid power is restored?
Thanks for watching, actually I didn’t know there was a Bluetooth app for the Generlink. I will need to download that to be better prepared. Thanks for the insight!!
Generlink has the predator listed as non compatible. I think is because it is a bonded nuetral machine. Did you unbond the nueteal to use the generator as a backup rather than a standalone to plug tools in directly
At the time we purchased our Predator it was listed as compatible. Not sure if this is a new thing or not.
very hard to get and find in middle tn.cost $1200.00 with power surge 40 amp
I’m sure prices have gone up! It is a very good product though! Thanks for the comment.
While on generator power does the Main in the panel remain off or on ?
After starting the generator we turn the main on so power can be distributed
It is important to consider how clean the power is that your generator puts out. A lot of conventional generators put out "dirty" power that can damage microprocessors in appliances, as well as computers and other electronic equipment in your home. Total Harmonic Distortion must be less than 5% (utility grade) in order to be safe. Inverter generators put out pure SINE wave power usually less than 2.5%. Conventional generators can go up to 20% which definately puts components at risk. Very few reviews mention this; this is why it may be worth buying an inverter if you plan a whole house backup like this. Just saying.....
Good point!
Good demonstration sir I have questions. 1. Where did you buy it from and 2. Where do you live?
We ordered the GenerLink through their website, www.GenerLink.com. We are from central Ohio. Thanks for watching
Would you please let me know the info of contractor who installed GenerLink switch for your house? Thanks in advance!
After we ordered our GenerLink the company worked with our current electric company (dp&l). Once the product was delivered to the power company they arranged a day and time to install it. Hope this helps!
@@ThoseWhoGlampTogether Got it! Thanks a lot!
I just bought a Predator 9500 and had a Generlink recently installed. The Electrician installing the Generlink advised us to NOT use 240v - said he's seen them stop functioning, break, etc.. he advised to only use minimum appliances such as well pump, boiler and a few outlets... but not ovens, which quite a damper if my wife is in the middle of her baking business. Question: Have you had or heard of any such issue?? I'm a bit concerned to use the thing now for fear of 'breaking' it. Thanks for your video and your time.
Thanks for the information and for watching. The electrical company that installed mine didn’t have any issues with what we ran, just make sure not to put too much onto the generator all at once. I checked all of my large appliances and no issues. I just know that I won’t be running them all at once.
@@ThoseWhoGlampTogether Thanks for your response !! One more question - if/when I lose power, do I need to shut down ALL my circuit breakers, including the main one coming in from power pole - or does that one stay on so that when street power returns, it'll 'take over' again ??
@@Tractorman-xj4gt turn off all of your breakers, then get your generator started and plugged into the generlink. Then you can turn on what you need to run. The generlink will not allow power from the lines and the generator to come into your house at the same time nor will it allow a back feed of power to go out. Hope this helps!
I want to put in a GenerLink, but the guy I spoke with at my power company (NV Energy in northern Nevada) said he had never heard of it, nor had his supervisor. They said to hire an electrician, which I will. But it seems like most RUclipsrs who've installed a GenerLink have to have their utility Company install it. Have others had this issue? Can a general electrician install it? And do you need a permit and inspection?
I can’t honestly answer as to if an electrician can install outside of the utility company. I also didn’t need inspection or a permit. We were fortunate that our utility company was on board with installing in our area. Hope it all works out for the best for you!!
Is your floor water heater a gas boiler or an electric hot water tank heater?
It is a propane tankless hot water heater. Hope this helps!
That generator is awesome.
I definitely love having the ability to run everything we need during a power outage. We are at the end of the grid so we are last to have power restored. This Predator is awesome!!
@@ThoseWhoGlampTogether that generator so big it could run every single thing in your house no problem I only have a 5800 and I run my whole house I turn on my well and everything
looks like a nice unit
Thanks! Hopefully we never need to use it!!
Hello , nice idea .. how much did this cost ? Did the power company install it for you ?
Thanks
Thanks for watching. It was $100 for DP&L to install the system to the house. The cord was $650-$750
I’m glad to see the power company installed this, I just got my Generlink with surge protection, I was told to have an electrician to install it, and they refused to do it. Thought I was stuck, went to permit office and they told me to contact a project manager at the power company to get it installed, called them yesterday, now waiting for the next step. Hope to hear soon from them and I also will be installing a soft start kit to my A/C unit to be able to run it with the generator.
Can a heavy duty power station with solar panels be used instead of a gas generator?
I don’t know. Call generlink and get that info. I would be interested to know!
Really wanted a Generlink. But the power co in my area won’t allow it??? Seems the best way to get a backup supply. It’s bullshit. All houses should have this.
Sorry to hear that and yes I agree it should be normal equipment from the power company on every house
What's the big box to the right of your meter box on the outside of the house?
This is a way to cut power if we need to
Did you get the generlink with surge protection and what amp did you get?
Thanks for watching. I did the 40amp generlink with the surge protection. I hope this helps!!
Did you get the Generlink directly from the company?
Yes! They sent it to my electric company for install
@@ThoseWhoGlampTogether Thanks for the quick reply.
Did you use a 50 or 30 amp generlink?
I actually have the 40amp. Comes in 30 and 40. Hope this helps
are you just using any cord
O the cord comes with the generlink
What is the cost of the switch?
If I remember correctly it was $600
Joni set the clock on the microwave.
Mike did as soon as we were done with the test run. It was affecting his OCD!
@@ThoseWhoGlampTogether mine too. I would’ve set it for the video.
How many watts is your generator??
9000 watt generator
Without even running a generator you can monitor the overload light on the generlink itself, and begin a power survey by taking equipment offline until the light goes out. This tells you the amount of equipment the generlink can carry during a real outage. I’ve had mine for three years. I use a Briggs and Stratton Storm Responder 8500W surge, 6250W continuous. It has a digital readout of percentage capacity in use.
