Simple answer yes do it. Especially if you are young. Good money, you get to travel and see different parts of the country, and be your own boss. Dont listen to the haters yes it can be hard but every job is difficult in some way. If you can deal with being alone for long periods then you will be golden it beats office work and retail drama anyday.
Man i really needed this because most of the videos on this platform ive been seeing is full of people saying theres not enough money in the trucking buisness and its all indentured slavery blah blah blah. This video just reminded me that my goals are my gas and it all depends on my effort.(im 24 starting PAM transport😬 in february and i too want to be retired and finacially free atleast by my 40s these warehouse and retail jobs feel too dead end and im too smart to keep doing deadend crap!)
Trucking is what you make of it man. I think achieving financial freedom by your 40’s is 100% doable. I hope everything goes well for you thank you for watching!
LMAOOO are you even a driver??? companies and o/o are going out of business left and right and rates and freight value is through the floor. this shit is slavery. and you’re talking about it’s what you make it. most us are lucky to get a full 3 days in. most truckers are hustlers most of us are doing all we can but still one breakdown away from parking it.
It's a hard life, especially if your married, long hours, deliveries at any time of the day and night, and no respect from 99% of 4 wheelers on the road. You have to be the type of person that does not mind being alone for long periods. If you do this for a living I suggest you find a Company where your only out for 5-7 days at a time with 2 days off in between. It makes the work more tolerable. I have been a driver for several years...
I served in the army before trucking. I’m 9 months solo and my pay is better than the army but for the amount of work it’s trash tbh. But the money goes farther than a normal job since you live in the truck so your expenses are lower. If you’re gonna do it make every dollar count. Follow the Dave Ramsey advice. The first 6 months or so I was taking home anywhere from $200-$600 per week. The first 3 I was in training and the second 3 I was solo but still learning. After that I started getting cpm raises, I got per diem, and the experience and knowledge started to show. Now I’m taking home about $900 per week on average. Imo the pay is still trash but it’s a starter company so after my contract I’m out. I paid off my credit cards, paid off my truck, got 6k saved in an HYSA, and halfway through paying off my car.
Now I’m just saying my opinion as a OTR for only 3 years out of California then I said no! You average about 1400 dollars a week for 70 hours a week on the clock, but add another 20 hours that are not on the clock, for things that you end up doing to make sure the load gets delivered on time or taking care of the Truck like cleaning it! Because you don’t get paid for things like that! So the pay breaks down to about 15.50 a hour! Minimum wage is 16 dollars a hour in California! So you are not even making minimum wage! And a McDonald’s burger flipper makes 20 a hour! You get home for 36 hours every 10 to 14 days! Which you spend 1/2 of it sleeping/ laundry/ grocery shopping for your next trip out! If you don’t find a spot to park your truck by 3.30pm you’re pretty much screwed! You will end up sooner or later in a snow storm no matter what they say and end up putting on snow chains freezing your butt off and hopefully your sleeper cabs heater works properly! When you’re done for the day driving and you are 1000 miles away from home you can’t go anywhere because you’re stuck with the Truck and load! You will end up in wind storms, and if your smart pull over as fast as you can! Other truckers especially foreigners throw their garbage out everywhere! Drivers coming onto the freeway squeezing by you on the right in the break down lane cutting you off while you weigh 80,000 lbs. Make sure you do your pre-trip ever morning because some other truck drive may be mad at the company your working for and did something to the Truck while you where asleep! Like pull the 5th wheel pin, cut your air line, or pull the Tandem pin! And then there is getting into the shippers that you have never been to before, even with trucker google maps, your going down the road and all of a sudden no trucks allowed, and you can’t turn around! Then the shippers like Budweiser and Coke always trying to sneak a few extra 1000 lbs onto to load, putting you over weight, then having to tell them take some of it off because it’s over weight, and them trying to tell you no that’s what the BOL says so you call your dispatcher and tell them what’s going on and they try to tell you just burn off some fuel before you go over the scales! Do you refuse the load! What do these people care they are not the ones getting the ticket and negative points on your driving record! So then Your dispatch gets mad and sends you 100 miles the opposite way to another shipper! WTF! 🤬 STICK A FORK IN ME I AM DONE!
Man im always overweight i jump that scale my company pay the ticket if im overweight tho so atleast it aint bad i do local enddump it pays fair but im just trinna learn to make more cash
I've been in it for 9 years. If you don't have any kids and especially if you don't have a place to stay yes get in it for a few years. Make sure you eat out of an electric skillet don't eat in the truck stops restaurants. Get a crock pot buy your food someplace cheap. Save every bit of your money and do something with it. Have a goal before you even get in the truck like you want to pay cash for a manufactured home on an acre. Make it count don't get stuck out here man. I just stepped out of my truck to buy some dark chocolate and the evening this late afternoon was so beautiful in Kansas something we never get to experience. Yeah I made $2,600 this week, but it costed me my whole life and my soul and time away from my kid. Next week it'll be less because the loads in the pay periods don't always fall the way you like. So next week like maybe 13 or 1400. Maybe 15. The more experienced you are the more you make because they don't have to spend as much insurance to have you. If you have a kid less than teens less than teens late teens don't do this. If you have a boyfriend a girlfriend or a spouse be careful.
The money I mentioned was after taxes. And so you guys know this is in the top 10 most dangerous jobs. It's not your driving I'm worried about or the ice it's all the people around you.
Well said 👏🏼 I’m in Australia & my husband & I want to start with one truck, however this will not be the primary income, we both have jobs . This will be my hubby’s job when he’s home from working on the rigs, the income from the truck will be a bonus in reaching our goal
This is a great video. I’ve been a company driver for 3 years. I purchased a truck this year and started my own authority. I kept my company job while I aged my authority now I’m getting ready to hit the road 🎉 Your financial advice is similar to The Dave Ramsey Plan 👍
I am currently 27 and I did my red seal in culinary but after 12.5 years it no longer served my needs. I thank you for this video as it brought me motivation to go and do my class 3 license and eventually do my class 1 when I get the money. But you have put hope into my mind. I currently work landscaping for 19 an hour and I'm encouraged to save my money and get into the trucking industry. Thanks a lot for your video the subscription has been clicked.
Hi, I'm 57 and have talked about cdl/trucking for 5-10yrs. Unfortunately about a 1-2yrs ago here in NJ before you school for CDL we have to take a test to earn to eventually attend a school you'd have to pay for..so my enthusiasm has faided
this is so informative, I appreciate this, best video I've seen so far as a person looking to start trucking.....my exam is in November and I know I'm getting that license....I have a clear cut goal and that's my drive, I just feel I'm built for this and ready to jump in.
I'm not an o/o but worked for a local job for many years then I moved and took a couple local which sucked in pay then did a regional and would spend all week staying at truck stops doing 3 loads a week. Sometimes they'd send me somewhere where there's no truck stops that have any parking ever so I'd have to pay 15 dollars a day to park.
I'm a Firefighter in the Bradenton, FL area. My favorite part of the job is spiritly driving a fire engine or a ladder truck. I'm looking to get into trucking on my off days, therefore, I would have to be local. My trucking funds would cover clearing up debt and making investments. I plan on trucking after retirement as well. Seems like a decent way to see our beautiful country. I'm hoping and praying that this plan works out.
Good afternoon, Tyler! Happy New Year for 2024! This is an election year; the economy is better on election cycles by design. So, 2024 is an excellent time to start a trucking career. Your message of having a plan is spot on for success! Roll safe out there as you get back on the road again!
Thank you so much for this helpful information. I’m 21 years old starting Swift next week. Pay isn’t great but That’s to be expected. Get my experience OTR and make that sacrifice. I will use this information. God bless you and wish me luck 🙏🏽
Hey man the pay isn’t great the first year for most, but get your year of experience accident and ticket free and the pay will be way better. Thank you for watching sir and good luck to you!
It really comes down to this….are you in your 20s working some bullshit job making no money? If so…go get your CDL…if you actually have a job that pays you $50k or more a year don’t get your CDL….simple as that lol
November 2024 I’m 18. About to complete my private pilot ground school with a local community college, but am getting out of it next semester. I was only doing it to make my dad happy and just have some kind of goal. I really have no passion to be an airline pilot. FSCJ, the college, has a CDL program and I’m thinking about getting into it. I love cars, I love driving, I’m single, don’t plan on having kids heck probably won’t ever even have a girlfriend haha. I’m not looking to make boat loads of money. I just want to be able to live relatively comfortably financially wise. I think trucking will do it for me. Not gonna act like I’m some super genius, but I’m no dummy. I got an honors diploma from a good high school. I have my own, new car and I have the money to fund whatever classes I need for my CDL. I know some people who are definitely in worse situations than me who were able to get their CDL and start trucking. I think I’ve got a pretty good shot at it. Hope all goes well, and who knows, 2025 could be the year I begin my career.
I got my cdl this year. The first time i went through a company and didn't pass backing training so i then got my cdl through a school then i tried flatbedding and that didn't work for me either. Im just thinking its not ment for me. Times about out too. Past 3 months
I'm 21 and my father has t cell lymphoma. I spent most of my time from the age of 17 taking care of him. He's made it clear to me that he doesn't want me to throw my life away. I think trucking is probably my best option with my GED. I thought about welding but I don't think I have enough math skill for that. I'm hoping to do OTR for a few years to be able to buy some land and build a tiny house. Then pivot to a local company. I think it'll also be good because my father was a Trucker in the late 80s Early 90s. Thanks for the advice. I genuinely appreciate it because I feel so lost.
thats why I didnt bother going to college. did pre calc semester and was like "yup I dont wana do this til im in my grave". Calculus is such a soulless life ending thing to do day to day. The hardest thing in trucking is knowing ur trailer is properly attached and backing up. You can do this
What math skill? most welders can barely spell their name. LOL they have fitters to do all the math. Most companies i have worked for in the oil and gas industry welders only weld.
This not having a life shit has to stop lol most people with money don’t have lives dude…they work 10-12 hour days and have a little time at night with their families…that’s most people
This was great content... honestly my idea and plan was to do at least one year over the road and save money for the that full year and then go back to school to do what i really want to do and thats to be a plumber...how does that sound?
I want to make enough money for my wife to stay home with my kids and still be able to afford new motorcycles and cool cars. Can trucking offer me that?
i’m 19 looking into truck driving mostly because i wanna save up for a house to move out as i still live with parents currently saving up all my money from previous jobs what do u think is it a good idea
From my research the money is shit in comparison to how many hours you put in. Basically living in the truck. If you’re cool with that, go for it. I think most of you young guys would be better off going into the Navy.
After 23 years in the industry, id recommend that if you are thinking about getting your CDL, or are new to the industry, just call your old boss and beg for your old job back at Dollar General, McDonald's or construction or whatever. It's not worth loosing years of your life away from home. For the last 12 years, I was over the road and my wife was someone I visited for a couple days a month and talked to on the phone every day. My 17 year old cousin actually said "Nice to meet you" at Christmas last year. If you have kids, I can't even imagine. You'd be better off selling yourself into slavery in Dubai. It pays better and living conditions are better. I'm done driving and I'm not going back.
Hello Tyler, I want your opinion on my plan. New Subscriber too, my plan is to get into Trucking this year hopefully by February and going to CFI for my CDL training for my first year. I’m single no kids no bills except for my cellphone and my plan is to live in my Truck and save my money and run hard for one year. Then take a break and travel then come back to Trucking again. Your thoughts brother I respect your opinion
If you take a break, it will be a lot harder to get back in. That gap in employment history will scare off most decent companies. Even though you will have experience, it wouldn't be considered "recent" experience. You would likely find yourself in a refresher class starting all over almost from scratch.
The saying, means to an end is exemplified in trucking. If you have a goal that needs some money… Trucking can definitely help you achieve that. Get in and get the hell out.
In your opinion is this perspective achievable that quickly as a company driver? or is it fast tracked by being a lease/owner eventually? I don't have my cdl yet but I hear horror stories about company driver pay all the time. thanks
pick out 20 days a year you want to be home, and dont mind staying in a truck the other 345 days and working in snow, sleet, rain all night and staying in traffic jams. but you can bring home 5 or 6 hundred a week.
But I would bet the real average is still around 700 per week bring home and having to be gone always. the lifestyle sux unless your a loner and dont like spending time with family and friends. I went back to CNC Machining making 30$ per hour and playing golf, fishing, hunting and spending time with family and friends daily. life is to short to spend time babysitting a truck.
@Magaeatsboogers still made more than that at Amazon (warehouse worker, not a truck driver (yet)). Anyone driving for less than $1k per week either isn't putting in miles, or is being taken advantage of
Hey Tyler or anyone. Im currently in training for trucking and heavy machinery cornwall Ontario. Im 23, wondering what kind of money im gonna make just had a kid so I was more thinking local or regional. Also why so much negativity on social media concerning trucking.. Call me a conspirationist but something is fishy about the xtrem amount of negetivity online. As fellow trucker we should encourage eachother
I loved this video. I’m 40 and am seriously thinking about a career change in trucking. I just want the freedom and to learn a skilled trade that I can take anywhere. I live in a very expensive part of the country and just can’t afford to stay here much longer. I think taking a risk like this would be worth it. Anyways, thanks for making this video, it’s going to help a lot of people.
@@jdizzle22396what he doesn’t state is that trades take fucking years to even break 50k as a newbie you’ll be apprentincing for pennies😂 no thanks I’d rather be making 60k+ entry level with my CDL
I’ve been an electrician apprentice for 3 years and I only make 21 bucks an hour yes I’m going into trucking to double my income off the bat got my cdl starting with Maverick soon
Answer, no! Mc donald wages (you will make 10k more then a full time mc donalds worker)and you wont be home. You should be making 75 cents a mile or 75k a year. I quit because i was looking at 56k a yr. I couldnt afford a trk or car payment w/ out a mortgage payment.
There isn’t one McDonald’s worker out here making 50k a year I’m pretty sure I saw a sign at a McDonald’s the other day offering $15 an hour for store managers lol
Hell no, I would rather do anything than be a damn truck driver anymore. just too much of a hassle. You get treated like crap all the time. And they got this ELD crap recording every single move you make.
Well with all due respect you’ve been in the industry for 30 years…that’s enough trucking for 3 lifetimes lol most of us are just looking for 10 years of pay to get somewhere else
Great video! Becoming a truck driver is definitely a solid career choice. For anyone preparing for the CDL test, I found this free RUclips video super helpful: ruclips.net/video/7-sg4upvxy0/видео.html. All the questions in the video were the same as on the CDL test, and it helped me pass easily. Thanks again for the content!
@TheLivingFreedChannel You repeated yourself 6 different ways, t o prolong viewer time, to boost algorithms, and that was the first few minutes, causing me to get upset and change channel after my comment. Our time, is money!
@Kevins-Rocky-Road I know its been a little while, but thank you for mentioning this. I was expecting to hear stuff like how much you should expect to make the first year, what job he picked up to get started, and a brief overview of the different kinds of trucking. Instead we got him repeating himself five times over and no useful, tangible information. He dropped the names of all the different kinds of trucking, but didn't elaborate about what you'd be doing for each of them or a career path either. He went on about paying off your debt, building an emergency fund and investing to increase your income. It's good advice but it's the most basic as well. This applies to any job.
Why you give people the wrong info????? Maaaan in 2024 200-300 trucking company every week close their door and go bankrupt because we have over capacity in the industry, Please be realistic and get your number from the official authority, any one can go to FMCSA website and find the truth, by doing videos like this you pushing people to a wrong way
A lot of dudes trying to make money on RUclips by exaggerating. Pretty soon all of these guys coming into the industry from other countries will be driving for free just so they can live in the truck 😂😂
Hii freed, most of the people or influencer they said u.s trucking industry sucks that company does'nt paid well, high price fuel, truck etc. Why did they say like that?😢
Simple answer yes do it. Especially if you are young. Good money, you get to travel and see different parts of the country, and be your own boss. Dont listen to the haters yes it can be hard but every job is difficult in some way. If you can deal with being alone for long periods then you will be golden it beats office work and retail drama anyday.
Do the truckers get to enjoy the city they’re going to be delivering in or is it just more like you just pass along like going on a road trip?
@zzzarkka most the time, your passing through. If your gonna do a 34 hour reset then you have that time to explore around.
I've honestly decided to say fuck it, as long as I get to bring my dog, I'm good
I’m glad to be back online and getting ahead with Living Freed.

You need to chill for a bit because ITS TOO MANY DAMN TRUCKERS
Use to drive for M.S Carriers now it's swift it is a troubling field a lot of let downs wonder how it is now this was 1999 to 2005
LMAOOO are you even a driver??? companies and o/o are going out of business left and right and rates and freight value is through the floor. this shit is slavery. and you’re talking about it’s what you make it. most us are lucky to get a full 3 days in. most truckers are hustlers most of us are doing all we can but still one breakdown away from parking it.
You need multiple personality qualities to be successful. Hardworking, sacrifice, patience, health issues and life at risk.
Finally someone positive

Really great advice 👍

Happy new year!
Get in any trade!!! Trucking is great just a hard life, I drove for years didn’t make shit, compared now Diesel Tech!!! Love it!!
How didn't u make anything in trucking?
I find that hard to believe…if you have a CDL you’re making more than most out here without one lol
It really comes down to this….are you in your 20s working some bullshit job making no money? If so…go get your CDL…if you actually have a job that pays you $50k or more a year don’t get your CDL….simple as that lol
November 2024
Thank you this video helped me!!
Keep the Great work
Yeah, what he said.
For me, I really want to become an RV Hauler. That's my niche. That's my dream job. I figure I'll start with trucking just to get experience first.
Happy New Year!!!
Happy new year!!
You can do this
I have the same plan👍
What math skill? most welders can barely spell their name. LOL they have fitters to do all the math. Most companies i have worked for in the oil and gas industry welders only weld.
Thank you for this video! I did like && sub also.
Thank you man I appreciate it greatly!
Love the vibes bro keep at it man
Thank you 🙏
If your ok with not having a life, losing your health then it ok. Or if you have no other options.
😮
Why lose your health? Lol you can still be healthy and have a life. Come on bro stop posting nonsense
This not having a life shit has to stop lol most people with money don’t have lives dude…they work 10-12 hour days and have a little time at night with their families…that’s most people
@@kushkidishthis dumbass thinks every truck driver smokes 3 packs a day and eats fast food 4 times a day lol.
This was great content... honestly my idea and plan was to do at least one year over the road and save money for the that full year and then go back to school to do what i really want to do and thats to be a plumber...how does that sound?
That sounds great bud. I’m actually thinking of doing the same thing. One year OTR and save up money.
Hi Tyler, thanks for sharing as always, wishing you a belated Happy New year 🫂 Hug's bro, be safe
I want to make enough money for my wife to stay home with my kids and still be able to afford new motorcycles and cool cars. Can trucking offer me that?
Not hauling freight but something specialized like tanker or heavy haul
Any job will do if you play it right.
So happy I found you
i’m 19 looking into truck driving mostly because i wanna save up for a house to move out as i still live with parents currently saving up all my money from previous jobs what do u think is it a good idea
Hun Im 24 , Doing The Same Thing I Think Its A Great Idea ....
if Your Serious The Possibilities Are Endless
From my research the money is shit in comparison to how many hours you put in. Basically living in the truck. If you’re cool with that, go for it. I think most of you young guys would be better off going into the Navy.
@@rstscottthe only benefit you get from the navy is housing and maybe insurance! That pay is horrible.
@@rstscottmy buddy is a marine and he said other than housing assistance it was a giant waste of time lol
Someone is a fan of the Dave Ramsey show
I just want money boss. what division is the best for newbies ?
Quick question private trucking school or company paid training ?
☝🏾☝🏾
Sounds like a great plan to me!
If you take a break, it will be a lot harder to get back in. That gap in employment history will scare off most decent companies. Even though you will have experience, it wouldn't be considered "recent" experience. You would likely find yourself in a refresher class starting all over almost from scratch.
@@bjtayHe probably means 3-6 months…..that’s what I did went to Southeast Asia
I'm a class B Hazmat tanker. Local, 70k a year
If you're hauling fuel for 70k a year
You're being robbed
@@info_foxwhat should one make hauling fuel local?
@@info_foxI can’t believe people look down on 70k in trucking that’s fantastic money dude…get a grip
what company would you go for if starting fresh out the gate with no capital?

Hey Tyler does Crete put a driver facing cam when you first start with them ?
Thanks for speaking your mind
The saying, means to an end is exemplified in trucking. If you have a goal that needs some money… Trucking can definitely help you achieve that. Get in and get the hell out.
Just got my class a and I’m driving for fedex clean out of school 104k a year
In your opinion is this perspective achievable that quickly as a company driver? or is it fast tracked by being a lease/owner eventually?
I don't have my cdl yet but I hear horror stories about company driver pay all the time. thanks
pick out 20 days a year you want to be home, and dont mind staying in a truck the other 345 days and working in snow, sleet, rain all night and staying in traffic jams. but you can bring home 5 or 6 hundred a week.
@@MAGAEATSBOOGERS15-600 a week? For working 345 days a year?? Ur being taken advantage of, I made more working 50 hrs a week at Amazon 😅
Thats what most of the company drivers were making in the 90s and early 2000s, thats why the turn over was 87%@@lethanielsmith6958
Anyone driving for less than $1k per week either isn't putting in miles, or is being taken advantage of
There are other jobs you can get with your cdl that don’t require over the road.
Really I didn’t know that?
Hey Tyler or anyone. Im currently in training for trucking and heavy machinery cornwall Ontario. Im 23, wondering what kind of money im gonna make just had a kid so I was more thinking local or regional. Also why so much negativity on social media concerning trucking.. Call me a conspirationist but something is fishy about the xtrem amount of negetivity online. As fellow trucker we should encourage eachother
Where there’s smoke there’s fire bro. Anytime you see all of the unskilled immigrants flooding a trade it’s a red flag.
I loved this video. I’m 40 and am seriously thinking about a career change in trucking. I just want the freedom and to learn a skilled trade that I can take anywhere. I live in a very expensive part of the country and just can’t afford to stay here much longer. I think taking a risk like this would be worth it. Anyways, thanks for making this video, it’s going to help a lot of people.
cali or ny?
No become a plumber
Doesn’t it take 5 years to make 100k and back breaking work lol
@@jdizzle22396 I make 150k a year as a tradesman lol 😂 20k a year is what white collar people make at entry-level. Blue-collar starts out at 40 K.
Trades in union make good money. If you don’t mind being sore and tired all the time.
I have one question do you work for someone or are you a owner
Anything but a cdl twuck dwiver lease operator or owner operator
Get into HVAC or plumbing….hell, even the military. These truckers basically sell their life and family time for peanuts.
Is 34 to old to get into trucking ?
Yea it is
I am 50 and just got my cdl. One of my friend is 62, he got his cdl last December
@@TheLivingFreedChannel no the hell it ain’t

I only owe 50k on my house. I know what to do with the money. I'm 10 years older though and the industry I'm in has gone to shit after the cough.
Hell no, I would rather do anything than be a damn truck driver anymore. just too much of a hassle. You get treated like crap all the time. And they got this ELD crap recording every single move you make.
yea its sucks no more freaky stuff with street woman nor riding 17 hrs straight or pissing in a bottle 😒
Drive a mixer truck. Pay is great . Home every night 😎🇺🇸
Been trucking 32 years I would say hell no! It’s horrible and getting worse every day
Well with all due respect you’ve been in the industry for 30 years…that’s enough trucking for 3 lifetimes lol most of us are just looking for 10 years of pay to get somewhere else
I made millions driving trucks, been retired 10yrs,,I sell yachts, part time..
Don’t do it not worth it a lot of lonely nights
Not worth it , don’t loose your money -_- the market sucks

Great video! Becoming a truck driver is definitely a solid career choice. For anyone preparing for the CDL test, I found this free RUclips video super helpful: ruclips.net/video/7-sg4upvxy0/видео.html. All the questions in the video were the same as on the CDL test, and it helped me pass easily. Thanks again for the content!
Thanks so much
Go do something else they don’t pay enough for what you have to go through and to get treated like trash
Long winded click bait

@TheLivingFreedChannel
You repeated yourself 6 different ways, t o prolong viewer time, to boost algorithms, and that was the first few minutes, causing me to get upset and change channel after my comment.
