I am a dispatcher and OTR rates as a O/O are thru the roof. I’m getting my CDL and going to book my own loads. Strategic and Profitable. I’ve booked loads for drivers from GA to FL for $3600 450 miles weight 20,000 and there home base is FL. I’m sorry company is cool but when you have all your business parts moving in synergy you can make millions and help others make money as well.
how long do you think those rates will last given the laws of supply and demand. My guess is that it wont too much longer before goods become unafforable and the demand starts to go down...along with the rates.
I run longhaul Laredo TX to Iowa primarily I found the perfect balance for me 4 nights sleep in truck & 3 nights home in my bed Weekly and still make that great $
I’m loving local. Get paid by the hour. I drive 4 hours a night, and sit in docks 4 hours a night (watching RUclips and movies lol), and get paid for every minute of it. I just shuttle trailers from one plant to another (20 minutes one way), 4 trips a night, and live unload/reload on both ends. I also work 2nd shift. So I get up whenever my body wakes up on its own (no alarm clocks), do whatever I want for about 6 hours of daylight, and then work my 8-10 hours in the evening and go back home.
It’s crazy how everyone has a different opinion on this. I run local and don’t see myself ever switching. Home time to me is way more valuable than the extra money you get for Otr and regional.
otr is ment for someone who doesn't really care about being home. Someone who wants to make more money. someone who doesn't wanna do the same thing all the time, hard labor involved, and driving around the city where there are lots of cars.
I've been driving 7yrs,done otr and dedicated, just want to tell you that is the best explanation of the jobs in trucking I have ever heard. This explanation will help a lot of rookies. That was awesome
I'm company OTR which has gotten me out of debt because of saving all my money. As soon as I can afford to go local or regional I definitely will because I want want have a family life and start my own ranch. I'll be using lease purchase as a stepping stone
I'm hoping i can do the same. Starting CDL school soon and I want to make bank OTR and pay off all my credit card debt. Glad I saw this comment because it makes it a realistic goal.

Congratulations on your retirement and your wealth of family…10 grandkids, wow! How has your experience with Roehl been so far? Are you enjoying the road? Do they get you home when you need to be? Cheers!
The road is awesome! My biggest regret is being gone so long while my parents were aging. They've both passed away and I think about the time I could have spent with them. Don't settle for anything but top pay when it comes to OTR or do your best to do local.

I'm a retired Heavy hauler and also a former United States Marine drive for 21 1/2 years you as a younger female have a better chance of succeeding in the trucking industry woman drivers back in the day weren't respected like they are today I'm really glad to see you doing very well for yourself, I ran across your Utude videos an I'm amazed as to how well you perceive today's trucking as you also know back 20 - 30 years ago there wasn't trucks with automatics transmissions back then it was all manual labor your woman drivers then were just like the man force of the trucking industry and today's trucks definitely have better comforts of life in them. So I'm glad to hear you enjoy what your doing and making these videos, I'd like to see videos of you driving to and from places if possible that would be great. Until next time take care and stay safe. :,-)
Thank you for this video. Im a 50 year old woman who recently got my CDL. Im going to be getting a local job soon because im a singke mom with a 15 year old son still in high school. I am interested in regional hearing your story and the pros and cons. Thank you again. And its good to see a strong . independent female driver ❤
HEEEEEEEEYYYY!!!!! I am a 50yo w as well on the way to making a decision to sign up with a company for my CDL training. Any tips/???? and congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Im typing on behalf as my opinion as a company driver. I've never done otr. Local is great. You get your 2 days off but during the week your strapped for time. You sleep much less on local and depending on if your company likes you, you may get luckey with 11 hour on duty days throughout the week. I know a couple guys that make 100k plus with a company and they only use 50 to 55 hours a week maximum. And voluntarily work saturday for time and half on the 6th day at our company. With local, you wake up, freshen up, commute to work, start the day, you normally go to more urban/congested areas depending where you reside. You get off commute home, after your commute home, your at 14 maybe 15 hours. You go home kiss the wife and kids, shower, now you got 9 hours if your luckey, I have usually 6 hours of sleep after a local day and rush out to do it again. Local jobs pay much better per hour an use your time better for a higher hourly rate, regional or otr will be a higher w2 but that's because your always out running making 10 bucks an hour with a 100k w2 is certainly not good to me, Local jobs are more likely to pay a flat hourly rate which is incredible, some companies do overtime, so the stress you get from wasting time with fuel, customer delays isnt as prevalent. I think with a work/sleep/life balance. Regional wins. No local trucker works a 9 to 5 and if they do, they only make 40 to 50 k per year. In 5 years local, local is where I started, I made 85k and 90k a year in food service which is ball busting long hours. Now I got an easy local gig, 350 to 520 miles a day, I pull minimal freight off and get paid per pallet or rack to unload when I do and its 1.50 pay per pallet or rack i pull off, With this job I've made 93k, 95k, and last year was my 5th and i made 108k and i would have 10 hours left on my 70. So 108k for 60 hour weeks, isnt great but it's much better than otr, more bang per hour for my time. We werent put here to waste away in a truck, some guys love the lifestyle which is great but it's not for me
As a former Greyhound guy seeking to switch to trucking, you nailed it. The driving part is easy, but when you realize that time is moving and how many family events you miss out on and all the pictures you are not in, it can wear on you. However, Im at a place where I now want the FULL adventure of the road. With the bus it was more structured and you ended up in a dorm or company sponsored hotel. So believe it or not, I think I want OTR.
I’m approaching my final week of school and I’m still undecided on what I wanna do. So I came back to watch this video to compare your notes with mine 😂. I believe I’m gonna go local to start off and see how that goes just to get some experience.
When I was a truck driver, I was local and i loved every bit of it, not only was i home every night with my family but I was able to make all of my Christian meetings as well, the pay was good and it helped me to become a more experienced truck driver, because I remember helping some, not all but some over the road truck drivers to back up in tough situations, and as fare as the weather driving local, I have face some very bad weather situation blizzard, ice high winds very thick fog, you name it.
MAD PROPS, YOU DID A GREAT JOB ON THIS LAY OUT. BUT I'VE DONE ALL 3 MYSELF. BEEN DRIVING FOR 11 YEARS. JUST BECAME AN OO AND I WISH I WOULD'VE DONE IT SOONER. BUT THE TIMING WASN'T RIGHT. ITS ALL ABOUT TIMING. BLESSING TO YA SIS. KEEP DOING YA THANG✊🏾💯

Great video beautiful smart lady! I’m a new potential driver trying to figure what I’m going to be doing going forward. Thank you for your well thought out video. Very informative!
One more con about local could be tighter spaces to maneuver the truck in. Day cabs help but you do a lot more blindside backing and blocking traffic to back off the street. At least in Chicago. And low bridges
This is such a great educational video to explain the different driving opportunities available to new drivers. You're an excellent communicator and so will organized. Thank you for sharing this video. God bless!
Thanks for this information. I did not know which routes I wanted. I am definitely going to get my CDL license. You helped me make up my mind--regional.
Probably one of the most informative truckers (and nice to look at, lol) for people looking for information on what it's like being a truck driver. Thank you Niesha and be safe out there.
in the OTR cons portion, you mention encountering challenging new situations. I would add that as a driver for a major roofing supply company, delivering primarily roofing materials with a 46 foot flat bed trailer, going into very tight residential neighborhoods can be VERY challenging.
i am about to apply to a trucking school and am trying to do as much research as i can to better prepare my self for the future, not going to lie i am nervous (am one of those guys who gets stuck in a job and dose not want to leave feeling like i am letting people down) your explanation sounds like just what i needed to here to help me try and find my direction, i am feeling like regional is more what i want to do, thanks for the info its greatly apricated!!
I have no husband, no kids & I love to be alone, so I think I would probably love OTR. And I would definitely want a no heavy labor & no-touch freight type of situation. But my question is, if I was to get a job as an OTR driver with one of the bigger trucking companies, will I be required to relocate? I know most OTR drivers work 3 weeks per month with 1 week or less off, but how do you get home from wherever you are? Do you have to drive the truck home?
The truck stays at the terminal so they can do maintenance on it. You need a personal vehicle with a top of the line battery in it so it starts up no problem after sitting for 3 weeks.
@@7viewerlogic670Or you can make sure you have a lithium ion charger in your bag pack can stay charged in the truck fully charged when you're ready to return home
I love this video because your communication is clear and concise - and you stayed focused on providing informative information and key factors on local, otr and regional truck driving. Super fantastic video! Thank you so much.
Interesting content Neisha, you are incredible. I’m currently in the military thinking about getting into trucking. Being that I often sleep on the rain and have to go sometimes a month without showering 😫😷 being in the field. OTR might be right up my alley. 😂
I’m also military getting my CDL I get out in November call your Soilder for life building and start a Career skills program my base has truck driving so I chose that class is 6 weeks long don’t have to pay for your cdl you just have to sign a contract to work with them for 1 year call your sfl tap and see if they have any csp courses available
You can also us Voc Rehab if you're 10% or more disabled. School won't cost you a thing and some carries will pay back for your CDL school. Free money 💰
Not true about local , my evaluation on local is , you will be doing more or just below 11 hours , and get paid hourly , your home time is very limited, so u might as well be otr or regional
Just found your channel and what an inspiration you are!! I'm 52 and have an appt next month to get my CDL permit then off to find a good company to start with. I'm in the southeast and with no husband or kids, OTR might be a good start and I would be willing to team drive. Keep up the great work!!!
That OTR life is definitely not for me 😁. People whose obsessed with OTR are typically those who don't care about about seeing family or their home. It makes it feel like you're chasing money while you're wasting your precious life if you ask me. Time will always be more valuable to me than extra money. God bless you 👑 @dral22
Very informative, thanks great video. I get my Cdl in a few months, starting school next week. I think my plan is to start out otr and then go regional once I find an area I like then as I get closer to retirement or whatever pick a spot and do local.
I just discovered your channel today btw..new subscriber iv been otr with prime 18 months now I been wanting to go local but in just doing research right now..thanks for sharing your experiences
Am new otr driver making 60 cents a mile but I miss home I can’t wait to look for local driving jobs I been driving for about 6 months now money is good but like she said I do run into problems kinda sucks
You’re so fine. But I appreciate you taking the time to make these videos. I’m about to begin trucking and my mentor recommends 48’s but it was nice to understand more of what local and regional entails
Iam local and make $25 and hr to $27 on the weekends cause of pay differ for weekends work 4 days off 3 but I like that I'm home and if I work a 5th day which I do that day is all overtime for me so I'm good and still bring home a good amount but I plan on getting my own truck soon i still would rather work for myself
Thanks so much for this helpful video! I'm riding along with my husband today and we are doing our research and discussing doing team driving together. He is a steady guy who enjoys trucking but our goal is to farm in less than 5 years. He is not regional but takes long drives. He is home every night which is nice but definitely could be making more money doing regional. He works for a very flexible, understanding company and I'm sure they would allow us to team drive even though they have never done team driving before. I enjoyed hearing all your tips and the pros/cons information. The way you do your videos is very interesting and it kept us clued in. I am often disappointed with watching trucking vlogs because the driver often drones on and on and on but I was impressed with your narration! Keep it up!

Came across your videos recently. Gathering up to at least 2-3 youtubers videos to get a male/female perspective. I got school coming up in June 2023. Looking forward to a whole new career move. Been in the medical field for 26 years and I will be 60 in three months. It is just me and my husband, our daughter is on her own with no grandchildren (no rush on either end) and weighing my choices and options to be viable in this new line of soon to be commerical driver. You make it how you want it to work for ME. Thanks for sharing.
You’re doing a super job! I really enjoy watching your channel though I’m not a driver. I have a friend who is interested in driving, so I wanted to learn about trucking to understand more of what he may experience. 👍🏽
It’s mad inspirational to see a young lady do this. Just food for thought though… do the math on how much on duty/ drive time you use and how much you are getting paid, Divide your check by the hours and then tell me, what’s you prefer.
I just got my cdl and out of trucking school & I have all these companies calling left and right. I'm happy I found this video because it helped me to relax a bit on which way I'm going to start off being a big loner with no kids or family or even a wife or a girlfriend & I'm one who wants to give up my apartment only because of this being the way that I am going to be saving for my own house so going otr is going to be it for me. Also we live once so getting out and seeing all 48 states is a blessing for me because I love to travel, drive and live care free all while making a great yearly salary...also when ever I bump into you I'm going to give it all I have to try to get a video date, you know Chinese food over a video call truck to truck jajaja because I'm attracted like 🤪

I’m local i wouldn’t wanna do anything else I love going home everyday and I get paid by the hour and by the load as a tanker driver.
What kind of work do you do? Are you a fuel hauler? Thanks
My brother was a tanker now he’s going for Car Hauler now…
@@partyfavors9238 car haulers make that bread. Especially, of they own/operate.
You don't have to relocate but it can tiresome if you live 3 or more hours away from the terminal you work out of.
You could just be routed back to your hometown for your 34 hour reset. Weekly or Bi-Weekly.
You can take truck home on hometime
@@7viewerlogic670Or you can make sure you have a lithium ion charger in your bag pack can stay charged in the truck fully charged when you're ready to return home
I agree, regional is best of the three
I love this video because your communication is clear and concise - and you stayed focused on providing informative information and key factors on local, otr and regional truck driving. Super fantastic video! Thank you so much.
You the 🐐 I did my first 3 years OTR, I prefer regional I like going to different states local feel like a 9-5 not the same money either
Bless your heart. Thank you for your service
🇺🇸
You can also us Voc Rehab if you're 10% or more disabled. School won't cost you a thing and some carries will pay back for your CDL school. Free money 💰
Military is absolutely built for OTR. 🤣

✔️ Bad Food

Hooyah 💪🏾
HUA!!
Not true about local , my evaluation on local is , you will be doing more or just below 11 hours , and get paid hourly , your home time is very limited, so u might as well be otr or regional
You don’t get any days off ?
Just found your channel and what an inspiration you are!! I'm 52 and have an appt next month to get my CDL permit then off to find a good company to start with. I'm in the southeast and with no husband or kids, OTR might be a good start and I would be willing to team drive. Keep up the great work!!!
Which company did you go with? I’m going for my permit this Monday?
Thank you for this video! I am a 56 year old female who is single with a grown child doing her own thing. Regional sounds like the way to go for me.
Yes shower shoes is a must!!!
I've had one local job so far, I sometimes worked 15 hours a damn day. I literally was home to sleep
Same, I’m considering going back regional because of this
Exactly might as well be regional. Hated local
@@MrDTown89 I'm sick of trucking already lol
You are a very smart lady, stay safe out there..
Great explanations …
You really strong lady , good mother , hard worker .
I been thinking about getting my CDL and driving I've been following you and watching your videos to see what to expect.
Thank you for all this information. I’m about to start training school and didn’t know which way to go on this. ❤
Nah Facts 💯
I never had it explained like that you learned a lot thanks
I start my first OTR gig on sunday.
How is it?
Congrats
Very informative, thanks great video. I get my Cdl in a few months, starting school next week. I think my plan is to start out otr and then go regional once I find an area I like then as I get closer to retirement or whatever pick a spot and do local.
I wanna do otr and get it out the way. I love being alone with my gizmo, so otr is so for me thx love
I just discovered your channel today btw..new subscriber iv been otr with prime 18 months now I been wanting to go local but in just doing research right now..thanks for sharing your experiences
Hello how is prime I will stating with them soon. How do you like it?
Me2
Am new otr driver making 60 cents a mile but I miss home I can’t wait to look for local driving jobs I been driving for about 6 months now money is good but like she said I do run into problems kinda sucks
You’re so fine. But I appreciate you taking the time to make these videos. I’m about to begin trucking and my mentor recommends 48’s but it was nice to understand more of what local and regional entails
I run Regional out of Chicago...i live in Cleveland Oh ..I mk Good $$$ Home every other wknd..Great topic
I live in Cleveland as well! What CDL school did you go to, and what companies do you recommend to work for if I may ask?
Amazing list from a potential new drivers aspect, thank you.
I’m not even a truck driver (I work in IT) and somehow this video appeared in my Recommended. Anyway, you have a new subscriber!
It can't get any clearly than what you have explained. Thanks sister
How many hours do you work a week ?
Keep it up!
You so pretty 🤩 I’m glad I’m done with trucking after 29 years good luck make the best of it 🙏👍🇺🇸
Love your videos. It's comforting
Thank U For This Video, Niesha. This Video Was Extremely Helpful & Informative For Gauging The Direction Of One’s Interest In Trucking. U’ve Answered A Lot Question I’ve Often Wondered About. Thanks For The Clarification Of The Three Options 💯👀👍🏾✊🏾🖤✊🏾👍🏾🤔
She's absolutely gorgeous. Wow!
There's someone for everyone
Hello from Chattanooga Tennessee ❤️
I do really like your videos. I feeds my curiosity to learn more about the business
That’s really impressive. God bless you
Came across your videos recently.
Local is the way to go you can't beat getting paid by the hour I will take local over otr and reginal.
Hell no. Little checks and being micro managed.
@@MrDTown89 where
I watch the whole video just to get my head straight, so I can learn something ahead before my CDL class.
Can you do a video in depth on regional driving! I’m about to start Regional!!! Like drinking in the Middle started!! Truck stop and rest stop..
Thank you for this.! I have to make my decision very soon
Great info as usual🤗 Great to see you once again💯 God Bless you always🙏
Just found your channel and I love how thorough you are with the information you give ❤️
Never been regional, or OTR. As far as local LTL is the way to go 70k - 140K jobs all across the board
Yes that’s what I do local LTL for FedEx ground. 2500 to 300 miles per week.

Thank you so much for your invaluable information, highly appreciate it, keep it up the outstanding job, have a great day.
You’re doing a super job! I really enjoy watching your channel though I’m not a driver. I have a friend who is interested in driving, so I wanted to learn about trucking to understand more of what he may experience. 👍🏽
I tend to think this lady is gorgeous!!!!
A nice, organized video!!! Thank you so much for sharing!! You just EARNED a NEW SUBSCRIBER!!! ~ 🙂
Good review of otr, regional and local, thanks.
It’s mad inspirational to see a young lady do this. Just food for thought though… do the math on how much on duty/ drive time you use and how much you are getting paid, Divide your check by the hours and then tell me, what’s you prefer.
OMG Your beautiful ❤️ good luck on your truck driving journey! Stay safe 👍🏼
Walmart+ is another option to order groceries and have them deliver to you at a shipper or truck stop if you plan ahead
Love your content ❤️. Keep it coming 👍🏾
Also we live once so getting out and seeing all 48 states is a blessing for me because I love to travel, drive and live care free all while making a great yearly salary...also when ever I bump into you I'm going to give it all I have to try to get a video date, you know Chinese food over a video call truck to truck jajaja because I'm attracted like 🤪
U digg 😂💯
I love the Road! I didn't get my cdls to sit at home the road sites n experience are good for you it will really show you who you are n what you thought liked or didn't like plus local rates sucks i feel ppl should hit the road when there young n do local when there older n have your nest egg of money together my Pops best advice was sacrifice early to enjoy it later but to each their own
So regional only have you 34 hours of home time might as well do otr
