    Beardruff was the main cause that stopped me from growing a beard earlier in my life. I would get maybe 3 or so weeks in and then have beardruff "and patchy spots" and just shave it off. This time around after finding your channel I discovered beard oils and and good washes and I am now 22 weeks in and have not had beardruff one single time. Thanks Dan.

    I get seborrheic dermatitis sometimes. If you have ongoing/chronic issues with itchiness and dandruff under the beard, it could be worth talking to a dermatologist because this cause of dandruff can be exacerbated in oily areas like the face and the treatment of it is slightly different to what Dan describes - I use a medicated shampoo on my beard when I get it, for example.

    Excellent job making short work of the problem and solutions. I believe some beardruff I've had was due to a thick conditioner that didn't rinse out completely. Your exfoliating procedures resolve that. I believe the choice of tool depends on the beard. Mine isn't as thick as yours so a scalp massager has no difficulty getting the job done for me. My experience with quality products is that a few more seconds yield enormous benefit. Instead of a quick application, I spend at least 30 seconds applying oils or butters. Combing through, I really notice the product's effect on skin and beard. Much different from my previous quick applications.

    Yes, beardruff. Mostly from ignorance. Lack of proper oil use (as in everyday), no beard soap or conditioner, no butter. I was not drinking enough water.
    I am slowly getting into the right habits.
    I am currently drinking enough water to where I think just camping out in the bathroom would save me a lot of time.

I get very dry skin, don't drink enough water, and - maybe it is an assumption, my older beard seems to have less natural oils. I looked to solve the problem and discovered a whole world of beard products, did not know they existed until then. Balm solved it completely, plus I take care of the beard well.

    Hi Dan, well I just watched this video (after watching your Beard Oil video) DUH! As I mentioned, I do Exfoliate in the shower with a round plastic flexible scalp brush (I shave my head). I use this brush also on my face underneath my beard to exfoliate; I think I'm using quality Beard Wash, one that is supposed to help with "beardruff", and I use beard oil (reluctantly), so I'm really not sure why I still have a problem with beardruff - I applied beard oil just yesterday, and today I'm seeing flakes when I brush/comb my beard.

    • @DanCBearded
      @DanCBearded  2 года назад +1

      It would likely be your need to exfoliate deeper. Outside of the shower and with something my sturdy like a comb with teeth pretty clothes together.
      What beard Wash are you referring to? I’m not aware of any that market the moves to help with beardruff.
      The main culprit though I almost always not drinking enough water.

    I just figured this out before I got into the show a few minutes ago, and figured I would share it .
    If you have a long mustache and use dandruff shampoo - let me tell you how you stop having that nasty taste, all day, after you're done .
    Before you get into the shower, put about a teaspoon, or less if that is too much, in your mouth and keep it there while you shampoo .
    After you rinse your hair and mustache, put your hand up against your mustache and spit the baking soda mix into your hand and rub it in your mustache .
    Of course, if you are not a real man, I guess you could put the baking soda mixture in a cup and do it the sissy way ...
    After you rinse, there is no trace left to taste or smell .

    I have really dry skin especially on my beard and head. I solved both with good shampoo and conditioner. On my head I also use leave in conditioner, on my beard I use conditioner and a good amount of oil. Dandruff still happens now and then but I just comb it out and put a bit more oil in than normal for a day.. next day it's usually fine again.
    Also a good healthy diet with all the micronutrients you need also really helps getting your skin right..

    Great video Dan. I thought beardruff (or dandruff for that matter) was caused by heat, aka blowdryer? But if water intake is the cause, or rather the solution, that would explain why I'm struggling with it. I have periods where I drink a lot of water (usually in spring/summer) but when the weather gets colder, I don't really have an urge for water, but rather coffee/tea, etc. If drinking more water would solve both beardruff and dandruff, that would be awesome, though it may just be a genetic issue? :/

    The only time I have beard dandruff is when I don't take care of my beard for a couple of days.
    I take my showers at night so it's much more easier to take care of my beard but in the morning sometimes I don't even touch it especially if I'm not leaving the house.
    On a unrelated note should I comb my beard after using beard butter at night or does it matter?

    • @leosigman7239
      @leosigman7239 3 года назад +2

      I think combing is beneficial because it spreads product on skin and through beard. I always comb after butter and even after light balm. I would not comb heavy-hold balm or wax applied to a specific place for the purpose of holding the hairs in position.

      Make sure you are exfoliating daily in each shower, with a comb raking the skin. Beyond that, make sure you are using high-quality oil and wash, and using the right ones for you. For example, do not use a stripping wash daily. Give the oil and beard wash a try from the company below. The owner created the company because of similar skin conditions. I wouldn't call what I get beard dandruff. I have a couple of patches on my face where the skin flakes off. It isn't just small flakes and the patch is painful until that dead skin is off. I can go in with tweezers and peel it off. I use beard oil and conditioning beard butter but the only thing I have found that really helps my skin is pure coconut oil. I get it from the natural foods store. It just takes a little and if I use it every day, I don't have a problem. If I slack off for a day, it takes a few days of applying the coconut oil for it to heal. I haven't found a beard oil with coconut oil. Probably because coconut oil solidifies somewhere around 75 degrees.

    Hey Dan, awesome video! Fortunately, I haven't encountered any beardruff (such a great word). However, I read on Head and Shoulders® website that their head hair shampoo also works to clear beardruff. I am thinking, whoa that could be too strong of a product to put on beards and facial skin. What's your thoughts concerning Head and Shoulders® for beardruff? Also, would the fungi Malassezia restricta and Malassezia globosa cause beardruff like on the head? Then it would be possible that the active ingredient in Head and Shoulders®, Pyrithione Zinc (ZPT), could work. Thanks Dan.
