In this video I will show you how to improve the stability of your house as well as methods of detailing it which will take your home to a new level of aesthetics.
If this video is longer than you have time for, simply save it to your 'watch later' list and come back when you have the time. This tips are important and I'd hate for you to miss out on them due to a lack of time.

Props to you man! Your the first person to actually use wood and a workbench to build. Everywhere else I look I see people using a mod and they don't even bother to tell you that. So if a new player watches those vids be like "How the hell is he flying?" Anyway Thanks for actually telling us how to build it traditionally with resources.
I appreciate your appreciation 👍
The flying is actually just debug mode; you can access it in the base game if the world isn't shared with friends
that's the debug mode, dude
It’s make the video quicker and easier while showing you the concept, it’s not hard to scaffold your way up and do it
I personally like to make the skeleton of my home out of core wood. The round shape just adds so much more to the aesthetic and depth of the house, compared to the square shapes of the regular wood beams, and you can get them relatively early in the game too. Another advantage is that it's stronger than the regular beams too, so you will need less support columns.
Also, when you get a stonecutter (you will need iron for this), try combining stone and wood in your build. Like using a stone floor in a kitchen or workshop, or using stone walls as a foundation for the rest of your house. That just adds a little more variety and detail to your build.
I like the look of a corewood frame, as well. I usually do that on my workshops and lodges.
❤ videos like this, had a mental block after I built so many buildings. Had to go back to the basics. Now I can’t stop building.
Nice! The game is great, but personally I feel like the building is the most rewarding aspect. It’s awesome to be sailing home from an expedition and see your city/base/castle appear in the distance. Good stuff 👍
If you do Hildir's quests you get an iron fire pit that can be placed on wood. I installed one at the top of a wooden lighthouse. Put glass around it too.
Thanks for that tip!
Sorry for the delayed response. I saw this when you posted it, but I thought I had responded.
the idea to turn the posts for the windows to add flair is genius!
I also like to turn the walls so the two cross beams are on the outside so it gives more texture on the exterior of the home.
And don't forget you can toggle the snap points by using E (or whatever keys is bound to it). This allows for FAR EASIER bridge construction along with construction in general.
Thank you! Both for the compliment as well as the tip! I appreciate you 👍
Hey this was a really good tutorial. I really appreciate your transitions and how you leveled up the look of the house step by step. Really excellent final look for a basic home build.
Thank you! I really appreciate hearing that… more than you might realize, actually 💫
So I've basically completed my main base but now I'm in the mountains and I want to make a castle after spending hours making 2 separate bases. This castle is going to be a doozy and huge time sink 😅 thank goodness for nocost and fly
Mountain castle, I like it 👍
Going all stone or stone wall, wood towers?
@Gamestar Nation stone all the way, make a nice Dwarven keep
I honestly hate that the big doors take 3 times as much wood as the small door and aren't even weather resistant. It's an odd cost choice
I actually never noticed that it’s not weather proof. It is an odd choice
I rarely use a door at all. Lol. Just framed openings.
@@kelly-bo-belly Once stuff is secure enough to not spawn, that's fine, but otherwise, it's nice to have something to keep stuff out of the base
I love how much work you put into this video, I only want to say one thing not to be mean, but to make everything easier for you. Their is a key for deleting building parts. Like when I use T then it deletes the wall, you don't have to select the hammer in the menu😅
Thank you! I'll gladly accept any info that makes my life easier. I appreciate it 👍
Mine is clicking in the scroll wheel on my mouse. 👍
Great tutorials, love youre videos. Only thing i dislike is the sound. But everything else is is perfect. I love how you teach the core basiscs whitouth spoiling the whole game. Keep up the good work!
Hey, thanks! I appreciate the kind word and the feedback. As far as the sound, what is it you don’t like? Music too loud, my voice too tinny, echo?
Sound has been a struggle I hadn’t counted on.
@@gamestar.nation To be honest is a little bit echo and sometimes it feels like youre mike is too far placed. I wont say it is unwatchebale the video because of it, but definitely takes away from the content. Maybe the placement of your mike is the issue and not the mike it self.
@@nandorpap5187 alright, thanks for taking the time with me. I appreciate it!
@@gamestar.nation Truely love the content and appreciate the effort. Also love the fact, that you are intrested in youre viewers oppinion and want to improve the quality of the content!
Great video and it is much appreciated from a new player like myself.
Thank you! Glad you liked it.
Welcome to Valheim!
Thank you for the video. It is very helpful. I'm going use this video as a guide. I've built a couple of houses already and they didn't look too good. My houses looked like I just threw them together, lol.
Haha! Thats where we all start
😉👍 glad it was helpful. Thank you!
Subscribed. It's awesome that you are building without devcommands.
Thanks for the sub and welcome to the Nation! Glad the slow building method paid off 😉
Yeah, there is something cathartic about playing without the cheats. I just wish stuff didn’t deteriorate within seconds of a rain or wind event.
@@kelly-bo-belly 💯 agree!
Man this guide is amazing just like all the others on your channel this has awakened my builders soul for this game i swear im gonna have a huge settlement by the time im done with multiple offshoot outposts thank you so much for the very informative video and know u have created a building monster 😂
Right on! I love to hear it 👍
Thanks for the kind words!
I’m working on a stone building guide right now. Should be out soon!
Do you play on PC or Xbox?
@@gamestar.nation my first build went so bad that I had to look for a guide but now I feel more confident in building and have been designated the homebody of the group cause I'm always wanting to build something
@@skaterguy1364 it’s not a bad title to have. Do they at least supply the materials for you?
@@gamestar.nation yeah they help out whenever they can
And then a Troll comes over! Lools. Love the creative around it. But I prefer personal tower on the house to snipe things. And as windows I like the bunker style so I can shot from inside house.
We playing vikings not SIMS ❤😂🎉
That’s what stake walls are for. Wrap a wall around your village/fort. Sprinkle around some guard towers🤷♂️
Don’t let trolls stop you from building houses worthy of Better Home and Garden’s magazine. 😜
Dope video. I'm brand new to Valheim, so I'm browsing to try and set myself up for an easier time. This video helped give me ideas, and get more comfortable with the building. I've played a little bit of Conan Exiles, Rust, and now Lego Fortnite, which all have similar building styles, so hopefully it won't be too hard of a transition. As a side note, I'm not sure if these settings are present, but turning off lens flare/godrays, and maybe bloom for recording, it should help with that sun getting in your eyes! Lol
Thanks! Also, thank you for the gfx settings suggestion. I knew they were there, but it never crossed my mind to shut them off. You’re right though, sure would help with the vision. Thanks again!
Also, I have a few gameplay tutorials if you haven’t seen them: m.ruclips.net/video/dL3gWEYhg8I/видео.html&pp=ygUXdmFsaGVpbSBiZWdpbm5lcnMgZ3VpZGU%3D
While it can be very helpful watching other people, I highly recommend avoiding as much content of the game as possible to avoid spoilers. It's a game best discovered on your own, you will enjoy it much more imho.
That was soo good
Thanks!
Nice tutorial
Thank you and thanks for watching!
Nice and easy house for fellow Viking, fantastic for beginners.
- How did you get rid of your toolbar, HP and map not being on the screen, cant seem to get rid of it for my vidoes.
- Cheers
Thanks! If you're playing on PC, it's CTRL+F3. That will remove the HUD from your screen.
The HUD? 🤔🤣 Thanks alot 😉
Still waiting for the Iron Age guide my man
Look for it soon!
It's live! ruclips.net/video/aQwHWv5reeg/видео.html
14:43 no, just press Q and the builder will give you a snapping point to control the placement instead of using the auto snap. Please press Q. I think E also works to cycle through the snapping points that are available for each build item.
Thank you!
@@gamestar.nation np. You had some great tips on this video. We have put a few hundred hours of game time in. Lol. I can’t believe I didn’t think about creating an eve on the houses. Probably because the structures are so fragile and it’s already hard to build tall. I prefer three full wall heights so the camera view is comfortable in the areas.
The first house you built remind me of the original huts on the PUBG map Sanhok. 😂😂😂
Yea I guess it does. We’ll call it a happy accident 😉👍
You should hop into my world and see the progression from last time
Alright man, thanks for the invite. I will do that!
Is this a bad time for me to mention i'm Team Stone & Metal, and I tend to think & build like a Dwarf...?
I'm also surprised ya didn't mention anything about the Fine Wood stuff, like the Wolf Head...
There’s actually a lot more I meant to cover, but ran out of time. There will be more videos, including at least one for all you dwarf-lifers out there 😜
@@gamestar.nation I'd be especially interested in if that Bug with the World Floor (aka no pickaxe ever can dig any deeper than that far down level) sometimes 'forgetting' to Support stuff that was still qualified to ever got fixed. :) (Played for the first time ages ago then Hiatused from the game during the age when the Plains was still young, and now returned & playin again Post-Mistlands. Out of touch on what ever got fixed or not between those two periods...)
Everything I make ends up looking simple and stupid. I don't even know why I try to build anything. A wall and a thatch tile do the same thing a house does.
Sorry to hear it. Is there anything I can do to help?
seriously a lot less resources used to just build it on the floor... i never make my houses off the ground, just problematic
That’s cool. I used to build them on the ground but always had issues raising and lowering the ground just right so the house was touching all the way around, but dirt wasn’t in my house. Started building on stilts and haven’t stopped. To each their own, though 👍
U kinda remind me of Ijevin. Gg's
Yea? Anything in particular?
@Gamestar Nation im not sure. Maybe the pacing and inflection of speech. Your videos came in handy when i first started this game. So thanks!
thank YOU! Sorry for the late reply. Glad to hear they helped, and i appreciate you watching!
I am sorry dude. I should have been checking in with you. How is your life? Are you okay brother?
Life has been busy doing what it does; throwing curve balls and what not, but I'm still doing good. I've been chipping away at a pretty big project but it is finally finished and uploading now. Hopefully, I can work on some new content and start spitting out more vids out.
How have you been?
@@gamestar.nation Well I am glad you're still doing well. I bet you're a very responsible person. I am getting older, so things are getting harder, but I am glad that I still have time for fun things. thanks for asking :D
P.s. I hope your content is successful!
right back at'cha 😉👍
Why does it sound like you’re recording in a cave?
Because I essentially am. My office is a tiny room and my struggle has been audio all along, but I’m always working to improve it. Sorry 🤷♂️
To much time consuming that
🙄
this is an rpg survival game made out of three components, fighting, gathering and building, where building is the most advanced and used component, everything converges into building, if this game had only fighting mobs and getting silver it would have been nothing. time spent is irrelevant how it was spent because time is not nominal, whether u spent 2 hours killing mobs or building is irrelevant it's 2 hrs at the end of the day and as I said this game is about building, calling it too much time consuming it just show u are dumb as night or want useless attention from internet ppl, anyhow u are dumb af.
