    SOME AFTERTHOUGHTS ABOUT THIS EXPERIENCE:
    I had to contact customer service today about links (I am not totally tech savvy). The live chat was not helpful whatsoever. I do find that all the automated features, like returns you can submit yourself, were easy to do. But a live person to talk to was not as easy as I'd hoped.
    Please note nothing beats buying quality jewelry from a reputable sellers, whether that's live sellers (like on youtube!) or a trusted wholesaler, etc. I will absolutely not make a habit of buying reseallables from Temu. This was a one off video just to see what they have to offer, and to let anyone watching know what they can expect. For me, the service after the sale is as important as the sales experience itself, and in that, small business sellers beat the big guys every single time.
    I definitely DO support buying local and from US based sellers where possible. I do, however, understand that sometimes life doesn't ((literally)) afford people the ability to do that. Where applicable, I also like to be thrifty :) and that's where Temu comes in for the jewelry world; you can get some nice things at affordable prices. These are far from heirloom pieces, but something pretty and affordable, anyway.

    One thing i can say about temu. You get some interesting jewelry. They are different from the retail stores. Ross, DDS discount. Marshalls. The way they are made are very soothing to the eye as opposed to what you may find at the retail stores that will cost way more than 1.00 or cheaper. It will cost more.

    I had no reason to suspect that the sterling silver items were fake. Sterling silver isn't that pricey. When buying off of temu and any website, really, you have to check the description to find what kind of material the jewelry is. Anything saying "alloy" means it's only plated and will start to turn your finger green after the plating wears off, which happens quickly with cheap jewelry. If you don't want your jewelry to turn coppery and leave green stains, then only buy jewelry that is sterling silver or stainless steel.

      Non è vero , l' argento 925 o argento sterling non è placcato , è argento puro al 925. A volte può essere rodiato e cioè ha sempre la dicitura 925 , ma risulta più lucido perché ha ricevuto un bagno nel rodio, metallo nobile. • @Lauraetcetera
      @Lauraetcetera  3 месяца назад

      This is not allllways true but definitely usually is. I did have a viewer of mine recently tell me a story of her ring made by a very reputable jeweler that was magnetic due to some alloys used in the outside coating (the dipped layer that is often done to protect golds from wear/tarnishing -- often rhodium of platinum but not always). Also every so often you get silver mixed with a magnetic alloy but I've personally never come across that...but the acid test tests beyond what a magnet can do so I usually skip the magnet (if I'm using acids that is). Anyway thanks so much for watching and taking the time to comment!

      The best answer is: price. As a jewelry artist who works with real sterling silver, I can tell you that nobody, even the Chinese, can make real silver jewelry for the prices they sell on this site. Many of the designs sold on Temu are ripped off from jewelry artists who put a lot of thought and effort into creating their pieces. Usually, they even use the same copyrighted images. Sadly, this is so prevalent and Temu is so big that little can be done about this practice.

    • @Lauraetcetera
      @Lauraetcetera  5 месяцев назад

      so sorry for my late reply! These pieces are somewhat thin and I rub somewhat hard to make sure. Another thing you can do is scrape back and forth and slowly make your way down on the plate. If it's plated the top of your scratches will show positive, and toward the bottom it will start to look negative. Also I've found that often the plated pieces are copper underneath, or at least a copper colored material so the scratch mark will also change color. Some people will risk making a deeper nick in the shank and test on top of the ring, but this damages the piece more than I'm personally comfortable with.
      I hope that made sense!

    • @Lauraetcetera
      @Lauraetcetera  Год назад +2

      I suppose I could but I don't want to scratch so hard I'm damaging the piece. I will say from close inspection they definitely do all feel and look like sold sterling (and I feel confident in my ID of it), and the acid test confirms. THAT SAID, their site does have a ton of plated items, but they are generally cheaper (like less than $2) and they do say within the listing that they're plated-- but they don't always disclose it in the title, so definitely best to be carefully read. Also as a US based warehouse, I do believe they would be under certain legalities in selling "fake" sterling marked as real sterling (whereas the overseas warehouses are not entirely held accountable). I hope that rant all made sense! Thanks for watching Jonathan and I hope you're doing well!!

    That last ring does not look like sterling silver and malachites are generally fake. A proper cabochon should never be glued in. A properly set cabochon should not fall out. You get what you pay for.

    • @Lauraetcetera
      @Lauraetcetera  5 месяцев назад

      It tested at it and it's definitely real malachite (I have quite the background in crystals, you can see more on my channel!) -- but I agree, absolutely unfortunate it was just glued in. This is likely a mass produced mold, and many similar sized stones are glued in for ease of mass production. The silver was very light weight due to it being thinner with lots of open metal work. It's definitely silver, but also definitely produced in a "cost effective" manor to keep the price down.

      My dad has bought loads of jewelry that was real gold and silver for pennies on the dollar over seas, especially in the Middle East and surprisingly Africa, while he was in the military. Just depends on where it is sourced. Of course if you’re buying jewelry near diamond or gold/silver mine, it’ll be a lot cheaper than buying it when the material or even the jewelry itself is imported. It sucks but America today has become too reliant on imported goods because of the consumer mentality that’s being driven into our brains every day. Our own manufacturing industry has declined sadly.

    .925 means nothing anymore. They changed the law several years ago to overseas being able to stamp their jewelry with .925 if they have enough LAYERS OF SILVER over the alloy. I buy/sell/make jewelry. I bought 1/2 a dozen rings off of ebay, some of them EXACTLY what you bought, all marked .925, all of them turning green after 3-4 days of wear. I had SO MANY returns I had to make for customers. ALL of the rings/jewelry you were showing were silver PLATED, regardless of the stamp. How they do it so cheaply is something I'm definitely going to have to investigate. "The proof is in the pudding" though as they say! I scratch pretty hard to get under any plating and use methods my jeweler uses to test, and I trust him who has been in the business for the majority of his life not just selling but actually working with and making jewelry. I assume a lot of it has to do with cheap labor...also silver can be sourced much cheaper over seas than it is in the states. None of the pieces are what I would consider "great quality" or heirloom; will likely lose stones over time, for example...but for the price...also I explicitly made sure everything I bought did NOT say "plated", had to say 925 sterling. But you're right, you have to be careful purchasing from sites like this! It's solid; and you can read my follow up pinned comment about this company. I always try to be as truthful as I can; I found these to be solid sterling, that is what the acid testing proves. You have to be careful when you order; the listings will say "solid sterling 925" or something to that effect, but when you scroll down in the description it will say it's plated -- AVOID THOSE. I found all of these to be genuine but that does NOT mean everything is! This is why I advocate always testing your own metal purity (whether from here or any other place). If you were sold fake goods, definitely reach out to them for a refund. That's not right. Anyway as far as me "fawning over all the pieces" -- I am a jewelry nut!
