I just watched the Emily Canham video and she says at the beginning that William George got in touch with her and said to let them know if she ever wanted another pallet. That's proof that they curated that pallet for her, knowing it would lure people from her huge audience into spending money on the trash that they actually send out to people who aren't big youtubers. She tries to cover it up by saying her mum picked one of the pallets at random, but it was probably one of a few curated pallets that had already been put together for her, otherwise why would they have wanted to be informed beforehand that she wanted to buy another pallet? What an absolute scam.

The difference between Ebay and local marketplace is that Ebay charge fees, but there's a lot more customers. Lowering the price on marketplace, could cover fees without a problem. It's not about Ebay fees, it's about getting carried out, and overpaying for the pallets. In my opinion.
    In terms of pallets:
    1. Whatever RRP they are giving, best thing is to half it, and go from there. So if they say 1000, asume 500.
    2. If there's one or two items that stand out in terms of value, you have to asume these are faulty/unsellable. Just to avoid disapointment.
    3. If pallet is "returns" there will be items dead as dodo. I would suggest acounting 20% of them will be faulty.
    4. Returns are good, when you are skilled repairman, and you can fix at least some of them, instead of binning.
    Good video. Informative. Thanks.

Thank you for doing this. I found it helpful. I've been looking at buying pallets for resale and couldn't see how any money would be made. Watching other pallet opening videos I looked beyond the RRP and estimated what one could reasonably expect to sell items for and I calculated a loss pretty much every time. Your honest report confirmed my expectations. A lot of work to break even represents a loss and to lose money as well is such a shame. Glad you had fun making the videos though, and happy to see that you have such a positive outlook on the experience.

Sadly it's always a lot tougher in reality , as an Ebay seller for many years people tend to think of the headline rate and not the total which can be around 20 % and then ad on your shipping costs to send out then it really piles up and becomes difficult to make money , except for everyone else !!

Holy balls. Anything returned to John Lewis on a 2 year warranty should not be sold on to people at auction. That is such a scam. It should only be things returned within 30 days that get resold. And I know those other youtubers didn't declare their videos to be sponsored but I've seen someone show an email from a company asking them explicitly not to say their video is sponsored, so it wouldn't surprise me if those other youtubers were breaking the law at their sponsor's request. Allegedly.

These auction houses sell crap at a high price, there's not many who will admit to loosing money on these pallets so thank you for your input and honesty. I 'm very reluctant to sell on Ebay due to their 12.8% and £0.30p costs, I don't know how some sellers make a profit when selling with free postage?

'I lost money on both pallets' no, you got robbed! The costs were outrageously high: the pallet prices (plus VAT), auctioneer fees (plus VAT), delivery charges, eBay fees, PayPal fees... With such exorbitant expenses, it was impossible for you to turn a profit. These pallets often contain worthless items - broken goods, missing parts, swapped-out items, or items returned without manuals or packaging. Having owned a secondhand shop and purchased 'returns' to display at the front of my store and around it to attract customers, I quickly learned only to pay a small fraction of the MRRP. Otherwise, profit was unattainable, and a loss was almost guaranteed, especially if items were broken or simply unsellable. Thankfully, I wasn't burdened with additional sales fees like eBay, PayPal, or postage and packing, that said once my store became established I gave up buying 'returns' from the auction house because I was in the business of earning money not gambling if bought 'returns' MIGHT result in a profit being earned.

Top msrks for your honesty! Everything does have a true value, I guess we have learned that 10% of RRP would be a good buying price for the pallet but you wouldn't win the auction, so it proves too many people are getting carried away at auction or hsvent done their homework first.
On the plus side you are young and gaining experience like this could lead you to eventual success. Better to have tried and failed than never to try at all.
Fail videos are posdibly more useful thsn sucess ones? To have sucess choosing what you are not going to do is as important as choosing what you are going to do!

Now I’m here doing my research a bit late and worried that I may have wasted money too. The 2 pallets have cost me less than £500 including all costs so if its all junk I haven’t lost quite so much. @@cce7087 hi there. I got some pretty good stuff. I got a few rolls of fabric which were great. Also some made to measure Roman blinds in perfect condition. Lots and lots of roller blinds and curtain poles. Anything longer than 1.5 meters ended up bent which I feel was most likely the fault of the delivery company to be honest. There was lots of other bits and bobs but I easily got my moneys’ worth. I feel it’s lower risk than the electrical pallets.

I worked at John Lewis Customer Service (Oxford St) as a student, and bit beyond (from age 16 to 24-ish). We were told to NEVER question the customer, no matter how outrageous their claims and demands. We were instructed to go above and beyond what the customer demanded. Many customers took advantage of this and would return items they used for many years. Or sometimes, they would buy items to show-off during a dinner party and return them a week later (including gadgets and cushions). So not all returns are faulty. Most of the time the customer just didn't want the item anymore, but it was considered 'used' and couldn't be sold again, and 'disposed of' on one of these pallets.

A couple of thoughts on other people's videos possibly being sponsored. 1. As a viewer it's not as interesting to watch when the sponsorship is declared and I came across 1 channel where people talk in the comments about getting crappy pallets from the company that sponsors a lot of the videos on that channel and is spoken very highly of. 2. It seems to me very easy to hide a sponsorship. No special fee paid to the youtuber, they still pay the price of the pallet, but they get to have newer undamaged items which are pretty easy spot for the company. You know, when someone bought it a week ago and returned because they changed their mind. In conclusion, I do believe that most miraculous videos are secretly sponsored.

Dear Rosie, i cant believe that any company could think that selling a pellet full of half pieces of broken and used garbage at such high prices can come anywhere near close to fair trading, its absolutely appalling, shame on them!!!. the money you were compensated with was a joke. Because of the amount of damaged and unusable items, you should of at least been given a refund or another pellet....one pellet was clearly tampered with, which should not have fell on you. you paid good money for a sealed pellet and thats what you should of got. {even if some, most items were broken or not all the parts were there}. It doesn't matter how much money you spend, you should at least get your monies worth. I feel so sorry for you, much love and blessings, take care

I think that the Lewis stores should give back or even credit to this lady for her loss they have totally lied about the value of the products.. In fact I think that Rosie should approach them and if they comply that she makes a video to tell that they have complied.

I was going to buy a pallet from them as well. Big red flag it being opened, wouldn’t trust them with one bit to be honest. I bet they go through them and cherry pick things they like the look of. Really sorry you had that experience, not very nice and not trustworthy.

If this stuff was any good John Lewis would have sold it themselves. I thought that would be fairly obvious?? Having said that, I still enjoyed the video. You look hot!

@@discopantsandhaircuts1135 buying a pallet full of returns and hoping to make a profit is either being greedy or stupid, maybe a little of both, complaining that electrical items have been used is both too, what percentage of people buy an item they obviously wanted then return if there is nothing wrong with it? let me answer that for you a very low percentage. So that is what she was always going to find in this pallet hoping for anything else is just greedy.

@johnsmiths9682 it's called arbitrage. Businesses sell off to resellers and their own resellers, thats nothing new. It's irresponsible that they are passing on faulty or broken appliances into pallet lots. Better that some of this stuff has a new life as opposed to going straight into landfill isn't it?

    • @johnsmiths9682
      @johnsmiths9682 2 месяца назад

@@discopantsandhaircuts1135 Yes, I know all of that thank you and agree about landfill, however I refer back to my original comment that as it was a gamble and sometimes you lose, she was being greedy. She saw other videos that people got brand new items and thought, wrongly, that everyones a winner.

Feel the young lady has been scamed and ripped off. The companies should give all her money back plus expenses. and compensation.for all the hard work she has done. The companies involved should be ashamed of the bad reputation they have caused this country. We have the best consumer laws in the world. These companies have flouted these laws. I do hope they do not get away with any of it. They need suing. John Lewis how could uyou tarnish your multi billion business over a few hundred quid of RUBBISH.
